1When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, “Come, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.”

2Aaron said to them, “Take off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.”
2亚伦对他们说：“把你们妻子和儿女戴在耳上的金环摘下来，送来给我。”
3All the people took off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron.
3全体人民就把他们耳上的金耳环都摘下来，送来给亚伦。
4He received what they handed him, and fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it a molten calf; and they said, “These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”
4亚伦从他们手中接过来，用雕刻的工具雕刻，铸造了一个牛像；他们就说：“以色列啊，这就是你们的神，就是把你从埃及地领出来的那位。”
5When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made a proclamation, and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to Yahweh.”
5亚伦看见了，就在牛像面前筑了一座祭坛，并且宣告，说：“明日是耶和华的节日。”
6They rose up early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.
6次日清早，人民起来，就献上了燔祭，也带来了平安祭；然后他们坐下吃喝，起来玩乐。
7Yahweh spoke to Moses, “Go, get down; for your people, who you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves!
7摩西向 神求情（申9:12-14）耶和华对摩西说：“你下山去吧，因为你的人民，就是你从埃及地领出来的，已经败坏了。
8They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molten calf, and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’”
8他们很快就偏离了我吩咐他们的道路，为自己铸造了一个牛像，向它跪拜，向它献祭，说：‘以色列啊，这就是你的神，就是把你从埃及地领出来的那位。’”
9Yahweh said to Moses, “I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.
9耶和华对摩西说：“我看这人民，真是硬着颈项的人民。
10Now therefore leave me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of you a great nation.”
10现在，你且由得我，让我向他们发烈怒，把他们消灭；我要使你成为大国。”
11Moses begged Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, that you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?
11摩西就恳求耶和华他的 神施恩，说：“耶和华啊，你为什么向你的人民发烈怒呢？这人民是你用大能和全能的手从埃及地领出来的。
12Why should the Egyptians speak, saying, ‘He brought them forth for evil, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the surface of the earth?’ Turn from your fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against your people.
12为什么让埃及人议论，说：‘把他们领出来是出于恶意的，要在山上杀死他们，在地上消灭他们’呢？求你回心转意，不发烈怒；求你改变初衷，不降祸给你的人民。
13Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘I will multiply your seed as the stars of the sky, and all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your seed, and they shall inherit it forever.’”
13求你记念你的仆人亚伯拉罕、以撒、雅各；你曾经指着自己向他们起誓，说：‘我必使你的后裔增多，好像天上的星一样；我必把我应许的这全地赐给你的后裔，他们必永远承受这地作产业。’”
14Yahweh repented of the evil which he said he would do to his people.
14于是，耶和华改变初衷，不把他所说的祸降在他的人民身上。
15Moses turned, and went down from the mountain, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand; tablets that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other they were written.
15摩西发怒摔破法版（申9:15-21）摩西转身，从山上下来，手里拿着两块法版；法版是两面写的，这面和那面都写着字。
16The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tables.
16法版是 神的工作，字是 神写的，刻在法版上。
17When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is the noise of war in the camp.”
17约书亚听见人民呼喊的声音的时候，就对摩西说：“营里有战争的声音。”
18He said, “It isn’t the voice of those who shout for victory, neither is it the voice of those who cry for being overcome; but the noise of those who sing that I hear.”
18摩西回答：“这不是战胜的呼声，也不是战败的呼声；我听见的是歌唱的声音。”
19It happened, as soon as he came near to the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing: and Moses’ anger grew hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mountain.
19摩西走近营前的时候，看见了那牛犊，又看见了有人唱歌跳舞，他就发烈怒，把两块法版从他的手中摔掉，在山下把它们摔碎了。
20He took the calf which they had made, and burnt it with fire, ground it to powder, and scattered it on the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.
20又把他们所做的那牛犊拿过来，用火焚烧，磨到粉碎，撒在水面上，让以色列人喝。
21Moses said to Aaron, “What did these people do to you, that you have brought a great sin on them?”
21摩西对亚伦说：“这人民向你作了什么，你竟使他们陷在大罪里呢？”
22Aaron said, “Don’t let the anger of my lord grow hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil.
22亚伦回答：“求我主不要发烈怒，你知道这人民倾向罪恶。
23For they said to me, ‘Make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.’
23他们对我说：‘给我们做神像，可以在我们前面引路，因为那摩西，就是把我们从埃及地领出来的那个人，我们不知道他遭遇了什么事。’
24I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them take it off:’ so they gave it to me; and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf.”
24我对他们说：‘凡是有金子的，都可以摘下来’，他们就给了我；我把它丢在火里，这牛犊就出来了。”
25When Moses saw that the people had broken loose, (for Aaron had let them loose for a derision among their enemies),
25惩罚拜金牛犊的人摩西看见人民放肆原来是亚伦纵容他们，使他们成为那些起来与他们为敌的人的笑柄，
26then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, “Whoever is on Yahweh’s side, come to me!” All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.
26就站在营门中，说：“凡是属耶和华的，都可以到我这里来。”于是，所有利未的子孙都到他那里聚集。
27He said to them, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, ‘Every man put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and every man kill his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.’”
27摩西对他们说：“耶和华以色列的 神这样说：‘你们各人要把自己的剑佩在大腿上，在营中往来行走，从这门到那门；你们各人要杀自己的兄弟、邻舍和亲人。’”
28The sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.
28利未的子孙照着摩西的话作了；那一天，人民中被杀的约有三千人。
29Moses said, “Consecrate yourselves today to Yahweh, yes, every man against his son, and against his brother; that he may bestow on you a blessing this day.”
29摩西说：“今天你们要奉献自己归耶和华为圣，因为各人牺牲了自己的儿子和兄弟，好使耶和华今天赐福给你们。”
30It happened on the next day, that Moses said to the people, “You have sinned a great sin. Now I will go up to Yahweh. Perhaps I shall make atonement for your sin.”
30摩西代祷（申9:25-29）第二天，摩西对人民说：“你们犯了大罪，现在我要上耶和华那里去，或者我可以为你们赎罪。”
31Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made themselves gods of gold.
31于是，摩西回到耶和华那里，说：“唉，这人民犯了大罪，为自己做了金神像。
32Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin—and if not, please blot me out of your book which you have written.”
32现在，如果你肯赦免他们的罪，那就好了；如果不肯，求你从你所写的册上把我涂抹吧。”
33Yahweh said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.
33耶和华对摩西说：“谁得罪了我，我就要从我的册上把谁涂抹。
34Now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.”
34现在你去吧，领这人民到我吩咐你的地方去。看哪，我的使者必在你前面引路；只是在我追讨的日子，我必追讨他们的罪。”
35Yahweh struck the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.
35耶和华击杀人民是因为他们敬拜亚伦做的牛犊。
