¹Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel had come to Shechem to make him king.

¹رَحُبعام به شکیم رفت، زیرا تمام قوم اسرائیل برای مراسم تاجپوشی او در آنجا جمع شده بودند.

²It happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard of it (for he was yet in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam lived in Egypt,

²وقتی یَرُبعام، پسر نباط که از دست سلیمان به مصر فرار کرده بود از واقعه خبر شد از آنجا برگشت. دوستانش او را تشویق کردند که در مراسم تاجپوشی رَحُبعام شرکت کند. بنابران او هم با مردم اسرائیل در شکیم یکجا شد. آنگاه یَرُبعام و تمام قوم اسرائیل آمدند و به رَحُبعام گفتند: «پدرت بار سنگینی را بر دوش ما نهاد. پس حالا تو باید زحمت و کار شاقه و بار سنگین را از دوش ما برداری تا ما خدمت ترا بکنیم.»

³and they sent and called him), that Jeroboam and all the assembly of Israel came, and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

³او جواب داد: «برای من سه روز مهلت بدهید و بعد از سه روز دوباره پیش من بیائید.» پس مردم همگی آنجا را ترک کردند.

⁴“Your father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make you the grievous service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, lighter, and we will serve you.”

⁴رَحُبعام با مو سفیدانی که در زمان حیات پدرش مشاورین او بودند مشوره کرده پرسید: «نظریۀ شما چیست؟ بگوئید که به مردم چه جواب بدهم؟»

⁵He said to them, “Depart for three days, then come back to me.” The people departed.

⁵آن ها به او گفتند: «اگر می خواهی خدمت خوبی برای این مردم بکنی، طوری به آن ها جواب بده که خوش شوند و آنوقت آن ها هم با صداقت و وفاداری خدمت ترا می کنند.»

⁶King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men, who had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, “What counsel do you give me to return answer to this people?”

⁶اما پادشاه هدایت بزرگان قوم را قبول نکرد و رفت تا از جوانانیکه با او یکجا بزرگ شده و حالا مشاورین او بودند مشوره بخواهد.

⁷They spoke to him, saying, “If you will be a servant to this people this day, and will serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”

⁷بنابران از آن ها پرسید: «نظریۀ شما چیست و به این قوم چطور جواب بدهم؟ آن ها به من گفتند: باری را که پدرت بر دوش ما گذاشته است سبک بساز.»

⁸But he forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him, and took counsel with the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.

⁸جوانان به او گفتند: «تو به آن ها اینطور جواب بده: انگشت کوچک من ضخیم تر از کمر پدرم است.

⁹He said to them, “What counsel do you give, that we may return answer to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke that your father put on us lighter?’”

⁹شما می گوئید که پدرم بار سنگینی را بر دوش شما گذاشته است، ولی من آنرا سنگینتر می کنم. پدرم شما را با قمچین ادب کرد من شما را با گژدم تنبیه می کنم.»

¹⁰The young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus you shall tell this people who spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us;’ you shall say to them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist.

¹⁰قرار وعده، بعد از سه روز یَرُبعام و قوم اسرائیل پیش رَحُبعام آمدند.

¹¹Now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”

¹¹و پادشاه به آن ها جواب سخت داد و مشوره ای را که بزرگان قوم به او دادند نشنید.

¹²So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king asked, saying, “Come to me again the third day.”

¹²او به مردم مطابق نظریۀ جوانان جواب داده گفت: «پدرم بار سنگین را بر دوش شما گذاشت، ولی من آنرا سنگینتر می سازم. پدرم شما را با قمچین سرزنش کرد، من شما را با گژدم تنبیه می کنم.»

¹³The king answered the people roughly, and forsook the counsel of the old men which they had given him,

¹³به این ترتیب پادشاه خواهش مردم را قبول نکرد؛ زیرا خواست خداوند همین بود که رَحُبعام این چنین رفتار نماید، تا آنچه را که خداوند بوسیلۀ اخیای نبی به یَرُبعام فرموده بود به حقیقت برسد.

¹⁴and spoke to them according to the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke. My father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.”

¹⁴وقتی مردم اسرائیل دیدند که پادشاه به خواهش آن ها توجهی نکرد، به پادشاه گفتند: «ما با داود رابطه ای نداریم. با پسر یِسی ما را کاری نیست. ای مردم اسرائیل، به خانه های تان برگردید، و تو ای داود، پادشاه خانوادۀ خود باش!» پس مردم اسرائیل به خانه های خود برگشتند.

¹⁵So the king didn’t listen to the people; for it was a thing brought about of Yahweh, that he might establish his word, which Yahweh spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

¹⁵اما تنها قبیلۀ یهودا به او وفادار ماند.

¹⁶When all Israel saw that the king didn’t listen to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion have we in David? Neither do we have an inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel departed to their tents.

¹⁶بعد رَحُبعام، پادشاه ادورام را که رئیس کارگران اجباری بود فرستاد تا مردان را از قبایل دیگر جلب کند. اما مردم اسرائیل او را سنگسار کردند و کشتند. ولی رَحُبعام با عجله بر عرادۀ خود سوار شد و به اورشلیم فرار کرد.

¹⁷But as for the children of Israel who lived in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

¹⁷قوم اسرائیل از همان زمان ببعد مخالف خاندان داود بوده اند.

¹⁸Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the men subject to forced labor; and all Israel stoned him to death with stones. King Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

¹⁸و چون مردم اسرائیل خبر شدند که یَرُبعام برگشته است، همگی جمع شدند و او را آوردند و به عنوان پادشاه تمام سرزمین اسرائیل انتخابش کردند. تنها مردم قبیلۀ یهودا به خانوادۀ داود وفادار ماندند.

¹⁹So Israel rebelled against the house of David to this day.

¹⁹وقتی رَحُبعام به اورشلیم برگشت، تمام مردان قبایل یهودا و بنیامین را جمع کرد و از آن جمله یکصد و هشتاد هزار مردان رزمنده و جنگی را انتخاب نمود تا به جنگ مردم اسرائیل بروند و قبایل شمالی اسرائیل را تحت تسلط خود بیاورد.

²⁰It happened, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was returned, that they sent and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none who followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

²⁰اما خداوند به شِمَعیه نبی پیامی فرستاد:

²¹When Rehoboam had come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, and the tribe of Benjamin, a hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

²¹«به رَحُبعام، پسر سلیمان، و تمام مردم یهودا و بنیامین بگو که

²²But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

²²خداوند چنین می فرماید: تو نباید بروی و با برادران اسرائیلی خود بجنگی. همۀ تان به خانه های خود برگردید و بدانید که این امر از جانب من است.» بنابران آن ها امر خداوند را اطاعت کردند و به خانه های خود برگشتند.

²³“Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying,

²³بعد یَرُبعام شهر شکیم را در کوهستان افرایم آباد کرد و آنجا را پایتخت خود ساخت. بعد شهر فِنوعیل را بنا نمود.

²⁴‘Thus says Yahweh, “You shall not go up, nor fight against your brothers, the children of Israel. Everyone return to his house; for this thing is of me.”’” So they listened to the word of Yahweh, and returned and went their way, according to the word of Yahweh.

²⁴یَرُبعام در دل خود گفت: «بسیار امکان دارد که حکومت دوباره به دست خاندان داود بیفتد، زیرا وقتی مردم برای ادای مراسم قربانی در عبادتگاه خداوند به اورشلیم بروند ممکن است طرفدار رَحُبعام شده مرا بکشند او را بعوض من پادشاه خود سازند.»

²⁵Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the hill country of Ephraim, and lived in it; and he went out from there, and built Penuel.

²⁵پس قرار نظریۀ مشاورین خود دو گوسالۀ طلائی ساخت و به مردم گفت: «رفتن به اورشلیم بسیار زحمت دارد. از این ببعد اینها خدایان شما هستند و همین ها بودند که شما را از کشور مصر نجات دادند.»

²⁶Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now the kingdom will return to the house of David.

²⁶آنگاه یکی از آن دو بت را در بیت ئیل و دیگری را در دان قرار داد.

²⁷If this people goes up to offer sacrifices in the house of Yahweh at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn again to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they will kill me, and return to Rehoboam king of Judah.”

²⁷و البته این کار یَرُبعام گناه بزرگی بود، زیرا مردم به بیت ئیل و حتی تا دان برای پرستش بتها می رفتند.

²⁸Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold; and he said to them, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Look and see your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt!”

²⁸او همچنین معابدی بالای تپه ها ساخت و برای مردم کاهنانی را انتخاب کرد که از قبیلۀ لاوی نبودند.

²⁹He set the one in Bethel, and the other put he in Dan.

²⁹برعلاوه یَرُبعام اعلان کرد که مراسم سالانۀ عید سایبانها را در روز پانزدهم ماه هشتم، همان قسم که در یهودا برگزار می شود تجلیل کنند. او خودش برای گوساله هائی که ساخته بود بر قربانگاه شان در بیت ئیل قربانی کرد. همچنان کاهنانی هم در معابدی که بالای تپه ها بنا نموده بود گماشت.و در روز پانزدهم ماه هشتم، یعنی در تاریخی که خودش تعیین کرده بود به قربانگاه بیت ئیل رفت و برای مردم اسرائیل عید را برگزار کرد و مراسم قربانی را ادا نمود.

³⁰This thing became a sin; for the people went to worship before the one, even to Dan.

³⁰و در روز پانزدهم ماه هشتم، یعنی در تاریخی که خودش تعیین کرده بود به قربانگاه بیت ئیل رفت و برای مردم اسرائیل عید را برگزار کرد و مراسم قربانی را ادا نمود.

³¹He made houses of high places, and made priests from among all the people, who were not of the sons of Levi.

³²Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like the feast that is in Judah, and he went up to the altar; he did so in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made: and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places that he had made.

³³He went up to the altar which he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day in the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart: and he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and went up to the altar, to burn incense.
