1David said in his heart, “I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul. There is nothing better for me than that I should escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul will despair of me, to seek me any more in all the borders of Israel. So shall I escape out of his hand.”
1داود در دل خود گفت: «بالاخره یکروز به دست شائول کشته می شوم. پس بهتر است که به کشور فلسطینی ها فرار کنم تا شائول از یافتن من در اسرائیل مأیوس گردد و من از دستش آرام شوم.»
2David arose, and passed over, he and the six hundred men who were with him, to Achish the son of Maoch, king of Gath.
2پس داود با ششصد نفر از همراهان خود پیش اَخیش پسر معوک، پادشاه جَت رفت. و همراهانش هر کدام با فامیل خود و داود هم با دو زن خود، یعنی اَخِینُوعَمِ یِزرعیلی و اَبِیجایَل کَرمَلی بيوۀ نابال، در آنجا سکونت اختیار کردند.
3David lived with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal’s wife.
3خبر فرار داود به جَت، بزودی بگوش شائول رسید، بنابران، از تعقیب داود دست کشید.
4It was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.
4یکروز داود به اَخیش گفت: «اگر اجازۀ آقای من باشد، می خواهم بجای پایتخت در یکی از شهر های اطراف زندگی کنم.»
5David said to Achish, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, let them give me a place in one of the cities in the country, that I may dwell there. For why should your servant dwell in the royal city with you?”
5اَخیش موافقه کرد، شهر صقلغ را که هنوز هم به پادشاهان یهودا متعلق است به او داد.
6Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: why Ziklag pertains to the kings of Judah to this day.
6به این ترتیب، آن ها برای مدت یکسال و چهار ماه در بین فلسطینی ها زندگی کردند.
7The number of the days that David lived in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.
7داود و همراهانش وقت خود را در حمله بر جشوریان، جَرِزیان و عمالَقه می گذراندند. این مردم از قدیم به اینطرف در نزدیک شور در امتداد راه مصر زندگی می کردند.
8David and his men went up, and made a raid on the Geshurites, and the Girzites, and the Amalekites; for those were the inhabitants of the land, who were of old, as you go to Shur, even to the land of Egypt.
8و به هر شهریکه حمله می بردند همه زن و مرد آنجا را می کشتند و گوسفند، گاو، خر، شتر و حتی لباس شان را گرفته پیش اَخیش بر می گشتند.
9David struck the land, and saved neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the cattle, and the donkeys, and the camels, and the clothing; and he returned, and came to Achish.
9اَخیش می پرسید: «امروز بکجا حمله بردید؟» و داود جواب می داد: «به جنوب یهودا یا بر مردم یِرَحمئیل یا قَینی ها.»
10Achish said, “Against whom have you made a raid today?” David said, “Against the South of Judah, against the South of the Jerahmeelites, and against the South of the Kenites.”
10داود در حمله های خود زن یا مردی را زنده نمی ماند تا مبادا به جَت بیایند و گزارش کارهای او را بدهند. و در تمام مدتیکه در کشور فلسطینی ها بسر می برد، کار او همین بود.اَخیش حرف داود را باور می کرد و به این فکر بود که قوم اسرائیل بکلی از او متنفر هستند و حالا برای همیشه پیش او می ماند و خدمت او را می کند.
11David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring them to Gath, saying, “Lest they should tell of us, saying, ‘David this, and this has been his way all the time he has lived in the country of the Philistines.’”
11اَخیش حرف داود را باور می کرد و به این فکر بود که قوم اسرائیل بکلی از او متنفر هستند و حالا برای همیشه پیش او می ماند و خدمت او را می کند.
12Achish believed David, saying, “He has made his people Israel utterly to abhor him. Therefore he shall be my servant forever.”
