1So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Asa his son reigned in his place. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
1اَبِیا فوت کرد و با پدرانش در شهر داود بخاک سپرده شد و پسرش، آسا بجای او بر تخت سلطنت نشست. در دوران سلطنت آسا سرزمین یَهُودا برای ده سال از امنیت و آرامش کامل برخوردار بود.
2Asa did that which was good and right in the eyes of Yahweh his God:
2آسا با اعمال و کردار نیک رضایت خداوند، خدای خود را حاصل کرد.
3for he took away the foreign altars, and the high places, and broke down the pillars, and cut down the Asherim,
3قربانگاه های بت پرستان را و معابد بالای تپه ها را ویران کرد. بتها را شکست و مجسمۀ آشوریم را از بین بُرد.
4and commanded Judah to seek Yahweh, the God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
4به مردم یَهُودا فرمان داد که راه راست خداوند، خدای اجداد خود را تعقیب کنند و احکام و فرایض او را بجا آورند.
5Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the sun images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
5او همچنان معابد بت پرستان و بتهای شانرا از همه شهرهای یَهُودا دور کرد و در دوران حکومت او در کشور یَهُودا امنیت و آرامش حکمفرما بود.
6He built fortified cities in Judah; for the land was quiet, and he had no war in those years, because Yahweh had given him rest.
6او شهرهای مستحکم آباد کرد و مردم در آرامی بسر می بردند. در آن سالها هیچ جنگی رخ نداد، زیرا خداوند به آن ها صلح و آرامی بخشیده بود.
7For he said to Judah, “Let us build these cities, and make walls around them, with towers, gates, and bars. The land is yet before us, because we have sought Yahweh our God; we have sought him, and he has given us rest on every side.” So they built and prospered.
7آسا به مردم یَهُودا گفت: «بخاطریکه در طلب خداوند بوده ایم و از او پیروی کرده ایم، ما را از آرامش و امنیت برخوردار ساخت. چون این کشور حالا به دست ما است، پس وقت آن است که این شهرها را بنا نموده و بدور آن ها دیوار آباد کنیم. برجها و دروازه های سیمی و آهنی بسازیم.» پس آن شهرها را آباد کردند و موفق شدند.
8Asa had an army that bore bucklers and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bore shields and drew bows, two hundred eighty thousand: all these were mighty men of valor.
8آسا دارای یک سپاه سیصد هزار نفری از مردان یَهُودا و سپاه دیگری دوصد و هشتاد هزار نفری از مردان بنیامین بود که همگی مجهز با سپر و نیزه و تیراندازان ماهر و مردان شجاع و جنگی بودند.
9There came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an army of a million troops, and three hundred chariots; and he came to Mareshah.
9زِرَح ایتیوپی با یک سپاه یک میلیونی و سیصد عرادۀ جنگی بعزم جنگ با یَهُودا به مریشه رفت.
10Then Asa went out to meet him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
10آسا هم به مقابلۀ شان حرکت کرد و در وادی صفاته، در نزدیکی مریشه موضع گرفت.
11Asa cried to Yahweh his God, and said, “Yahweh, there is none besides you to help, between the mighty and him who has no strength. Help us, Yahweh our God; for we rely on you, and in your name are we come against this multitude. Yahweh, you are our God. Don’t let man prevail against you.”
11آسا پیش خداوند، خدای خود زاری کرد و گفت: «ای خداوند، تو تنها کسی هستی که به ضعیفان در مقابل تجاوز زورمندان کمک می کنی. ای خداوند، خدای ما! یگانه تکیه گاه ما تو هستی، به ما مدد کن. با توکل به نام پاک تو در مقابل این گروه عظیم آمده ایم. خداوندا، تو خدای ما هستی و نگذار که یک انسان خاکی بر تو غلبه کند!»
12So Yahweh struck the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
12بنابران، خداوند سپاه ایتیوپی را به دست لشکر یَهُودا شکست داد و دشمن فرار کرد.
13Asa and the people who were with him pursued them to Gerar: and there fell of the Ethiopians so many that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before Yahweh, and before his army; and they carried away very much booty.
13آسا و مردان او به تعقیب عساکر ایتیوپی تا به جرار رفتند و همه را کشتند و یک نفر را هم زنده نگذاشتند، زیرا ترس خداوند آن ها را شکست داد. عساکر یَهُودا غنیمت بسیاری به دست آوردند
14They struck all the cities around Gerar; for the fear of Yahweh came on them: and they despoiled all the cities; for there was much spoil in them.
14و تمام شهرهائی را که در اطراف جرار بودند، تصرف کردند، زیرا ترس خداوند همۀ آن ها را به وحشت انداخته بود. چون آن شهرها غنیمت بسیار داشتند، همه را غارت کردند.خیمه های رمه داران را از بین بردند و تعداد زیاد گوسفندان و شترها را به دست آوردند و سرانجام به اورشلیم برگشتند.
15They struck also the tents of livestock, and carried away sheep in abundance, and camels, and returned to Jerusalem.
