1After these things, and this faithfulness, Sennacherib king of Assyria came, and entered into Judah, and encamped against the fortified cities, and thought to win them for himself.
1بعد از مدتی و پس از آنکه حزقیا آنهمه کارهای نیک را به انجام رسانید، سِناخِریب، پادشاه آشور به یَهُودا حمله آورد و شهرهای مستحکم آنرا محاصره کرد و در نظر داشت که آن ها را به تصرف خود درآورد.
2When Hezekiah saw that Sennacherib had come, and that he was purposed to fight against Jerusalem,
2چون حزقیا خبر شد که سِناخِریب می خواهد به اورشلیم هم حمله کند،
3he took counsel with his princes and his mighty men to stop the waters of the springs which were outside of the city; and they helped him.
3با مشورۀ مأمورین ملکی و نظامی امر کرد که چشمه های آب بیرون شهر را ببندند.
4So many people gathered together, and they stopped all the springs, and the brook that flowed through the midst of the land, saying, “Why should the kings of Assyria come, and find much water?”
4و مردم زیادی برای اجرای این کار برای کمک و خدمت حاضر شدند. آب چشمه ها را که در جویهای شهر جاری بود بستند و گفتند: «پادشاهان آشور نباید در اینجا بیایند و آب فراوان بیابند.»
5He took courage, and built up all the wall that was broken down, and raised it up to the towers, and the other wall outside, and strengthened Millo in the city of David, and made weapons and shields in abundance.
5حزقیا قوای دفاعی خود را بیشتر استحکام بخشید و دیوارهائی جهت جلوگیری از سنگ ریزی را که ویران شده بودند، ترمیم کرد و برجهائی بالای آن ها بنا نمود. با بنای یک دیوار دیگر بدور آن ها شهر را زیادتر مستحکم ساخت. دیواره ها را در شهر داود استحکام بخشید و اسلحه و سپرهای زیادی ساخت.
6He set captains of war over the people, and gathered them together to him in the broad place at the gate of the city, and spoke comfortably to them, saying,
6فرماندهان نظامی را برای سپاه خود گماشت و همه را در میدان نزدیک شهر جمع کرد و با سخنان تشویق کننده به آن ها گفت:
7“Be strong and courageous, don’t be afraid nor dismayed for the king of Assyria, nor for all the multitude who is with him; for there is a greater with us than with him.
7«شجاع و با جرأت باشید. از پادشاه آشور و لشکر او ترس و هراس را در دل خود راه ندهید، زیرا همراه ما کسی است که بزرگتر از او است.
8With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is Yahweh our God to help us, and to fight our battles.” The people rested themselves on the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
8پادشاه آشور از انسان کمک می گیرد، اما مددگار ما خداوند است که در جنگ با دشمن، به ما کمک می کند.» سخنان حزقیا قوم را دلگرم کرد و همگی جرأت یافتند.
9After this, Sennacherib king of Assyria sent his servants to Jerusalem, (now he was before Lachish, and all his power with him), to Hezekiah king of Judah, and to all Judah who were at Jerusalem, saying,
9سِناخِریب با همه قوای خود در شهر لاکیش موضع گرفته بود. او از آنجا نمایندگان خود را پیش حزقیا، پادشاه یَهُودا و مردم آن در اورشلیم فرستاد.
10Thus says Sennacherib king of Assyria, “In whom do you trust, that you remain under siege in Jerusalem?
10آن ها گفتند: «سِناخِریب پادشاه آشور چنین می گوید: آیا می توانید از این محاصره جان سالم بدر برید؟
11Doesn’t Hezekiah persuade you, to give you over to die by famine and by thirst, saying, ‘Yahweh our God will deliver us out of the hand of the king of Assyria?’
11حزقیا شما را فریب می دهد. او می خواهد که شما از قحطی و تشنگی بمیرید و می گوید: «خداوند، خدای ما، ما را از دست پادشاه آشور نجات می دهد.»
12Hasn’t the same Hezekiah taken away his high places and his altars, and commanded Judah and Jerusalem, saying, ‘You shall worship before one altar, and on it you shall burn incense?’
12آیا خود حزقیا نبود که بتخانه ها و قربانگاهها را ویران کرد و به مردم یَهُودا و اورشلیم گفت که در مقابل یک قربانگاه عبادت کنید و بر همان قربانگاه قربانی سوختنی تقدیم نمائید؟
13Don’t you know what I and my fathers have done to all the peoples of the lands? Were the gods of the nations of the lands in any way able to deliver their land out of my hand?
13آیا خبر ندارید که من و اجدادم چه بلائی بر سر کشورهای دیگر آوردیم؟ آیا خدایان آن ممالک توانستند که کشورهای خود را از دست ما نجات بدهد؟
14Who was there among all the gods of those nations which my fathers utterly destroyed, that could deliver his people out of my hand, that your God should be able to deliver you out of my hand?
14هیچکدام از خدایان آن کشورها که اجداد من مردم شان را بکلی نابود کرد، نتوانست مردم خود را از دست شان رهائی بخشد. پس خدای شما چطور می تواند شما را نجات بدهد؟
15Now therefore don’t let Hezekiah deceive you, nor persuade you in this way, neither believe him; for no god of any nation or kingdom was able to deliver his people out of my hand, and out of the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you out of my hand?”
15بنابران، نگذارید که حزقیا شما را فریب بدهد و گمراه کند. حرف او را باور نکنید، زیرا در صورتیکه خدای هیچ قومی و هیچ سلطنتی نتوانست مردم خود را از دست اجداد من نجات بدهد، پس خدای شما چطور می تواند که شما را از دست ما رهائی بخشد؟»
16His servants spoke yet more against Yahweh God, and against his servant Hezekiah.
16نمایندگان سِناخِریب حرفهای دیگری هم برضد خداوند، خدا و بندۀ او، حزقیا زدند.
17He also wrote letters insulting Yahweh, the God of Israel, and to speak against him, saying, “As the gods of the nations of the lands, which have not delivered their people out of my hand, so shall the God of Hezekiah not deliver his people out of my hand.”
17سِناخِریب همچنین نامه های توهین آمیز علیه خداوند، خدای اسرائیل به این مضمون نوشت: «مثلیکه خدایان ممالک دیگر نتوانستند مردمان خود را از دست من نجات بدهند، خدای حزقیا هم قادر نخواهد بود که قوم خود را از چنگ من رهائی بخشد.»
18They cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language to the people of Jerusalem who were on the wall, to frighten them, and to trouble them; that they might take the city.
18آن ها با صدای بلند و بزبان عبری به مردم اورشلیم که بر سر دیوار بودند، خطاب کردند که آن ها را بترسانند و به وحشت اندازند تا شهر را تصرف کنند.
19They spoke of the God of Jerusalem, as of the gods of the peoples of the earth, which are the work of men’s hands.
19آن ها در بارۀ خدای اورشلیم طوری حرف زدند که او هم یکی از خدایان ساختۀ دست بشر است.
20Hezekiah the king, and Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, prayed because of this, and cried to heaven.
20آنگاه حزقیا پادشاه و اشعیای پسر آموص در این باره دعا کردند و فریاد زاری شان بسوی آسمان بلند شد.
21Yahweh sent an angel, who cut off all the mighty men of valor, and the leaders and captains, in the camp of the king of Assyria. So he returned with shame of face to his own land. When he had come into the house of his god, those who came forth from his own bowels killed him there with the sword.
21خداوند فرشته ای را فرستاد و او همه جنگجویان شجاع، فرماندهان نظامی و سرکردگان اردوی پادشاه آشور را نابود کرد. سِناخِریب شرمنده و سرافگنده به وطن خود برگشت. و وقتیکه به معبد خدای خود داخل شد، پسران خودش او را با شمشیر زدند و کشتند.
22Thus Yahweh saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria, and from the hand of all others, and guided them on every side.
22به این ترتیب، خداوند حزقیا و مردم اورشلیم را از دست دشمن شان، سِناخِریب، پادشاه آشور نجات داد و از هر طرف به او صلح و آرامش عطا کرد.
23Many brought gifts to Yahweh to Jerusalem, and precious things to Hezekiah king of Judah; so that he was exalted in the sight of all nations from thenceforth.
23بعد همگی برای خدای اورشلیم هدیه و اشیای نفیس برای حزقیا، پادشاه یَهُودا آوردند. و حزقیا از آن روز ببعد در بین تمام اقوام احترام و شهرت پیدا کرد.
24In those days Hezekiah was sick even to death: and he prayed to Yahweh; and he spoke to him, and gave him a sign.
24در همان روزها حزقیا مریض و نزدیک به مردن شد و بدربار خداوند برای شفای خود دعا کرد. خداوند دعای او را قبول فرمود و با علامه ای به او فهماند که شفا می یابد.
25But Hezekiah didn’t render again according to the benefit done to him; for his heart was lifted up: therefore there was wrath on him, and on Judah and Jerusalem.
25اما حزقیا از روی غرور نیکی ها و خوبی های را که خداوند در حق او کرده بود، نادیده گرفت، بنابران، غضب خداوند بر سر او و مردم اورشلیم آمد.
26Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of Yahweh didn’t come on them in the days of Hezekiah.
26لیکن پسانتر حزقیا و مردم اورشلیم از کردۀ خود پشیمان شدند و توبه کردند، پس در دوران زندگی حزقیا غضب خداوند بر ایشان نیامد.
27Hezekiah had exceeding much riches and honor: and he provided him treasuries for silver, and for gold, and for precious stones, and for spices, and for shields, and for all kinds of goodly vessels;
27حزقیا دارای ثروت و حشمت زیادی بود. خزانه های طلا و نقره و جواهرات و انبارهای عطریات و سپر و هرگونه ظروف قیمتی داشت.
28storehouses also for the increase of grain and new wine and oil; and stalls for all kinds of animals, and flocks in folds.
28همچنین گدامهای گندم، شراب و روغن و طویله هائی هم جهت نگهداری هر نوع حیوانات و گوسفندان برای خود ساخت.
29Moreover he provided him cities, and possessions of flocks and herds in abundance; for God had given him very much substance.
29بهمین ترتیب، شهرهای هم برای خود آباد کرد و رمه و گله های زیادی اندوخت، زیرا احسان خدا بود که او صاحب اینهمه دارائی شد.
30This same Hezekiah also stopped the upper spring of the waters of Gihon, and brought them straight down on the west side of the city of David. Hezekiah prospered in all his works.
30همین حزقیا بود که بند آب دریای جیحون را ساخت و جریان آب را به طرف غرب شهر داود گشتاند.
31However concerning the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent to him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that he might know all that was in his heart.
31خلاصه، حزقیا در هر کار خود موفق بود. وقتیکه نمایندگان بابل آمدند تا از او در بارۀ معجزاتی که در آن کشور بعمل آمدند سوال کنند، خداوند او را بحال خودش گذاشت که به آن ها جواب بدهد تا این ترتیب، شخصیت و معرفت او معلوم گردد.
32Now the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and his good deeds, behold, they are written in the vision of Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz, in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel.
32بقیۀ وقایع دوران سلطنت حزقیا و اعمال نیک او همه در کتاب اشعیای نبی (پسر آموص) و در کتاب تاریخ پادشاهان یَهُودا و اسرائیل نوشته شده اند.وقتی حزقیا فوت کرد، او را در تپه ای که قبرستان اولادۀ داود بود، بخاک سپردند و تمام مردم یَهُودا و اورشلیم جنازۀ او را با احترام خاصی دفن کردند و بعد از او پسرش، مَنَسّی پادشاه شد.
33Hezekiah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the ascent of the tombs of the sons of David: and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem did him honor at his death. Manasseh his son reigned in his place.
33وقتی حزقیا فوت کرد، او را در تپه ای که قبرستان اولادۀ داود بود، بخاک سپردند و تمام مردم یَهُودا و اورشلیم جنازۀ او را با احترام خاصی دفن کردند و بعد از او پسرش، مَنَسّی پادشاه شد.
