¹The king sent, and they gathered to him all the elders of Judah and of Jerusalem.

¹یوشیا به تمام مو سفیدان یهودا و اورشلیم امر کرد که همۀ شان بحضور او جمع شوند.

²The king went up to the house of Yahweh, and all the men of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem with him, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people, both small and great: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant which was found in the house of Yahweh.

²پس همگی ـ اهالی یهودا و اورشلیم، کاهنان، انبیاء و مردم دیگر از خورد تا بزرگ، همراه شاه به عبادتگاه خداوند رفتند. در آنجا پادشاه کتاب عهدنامه را که از عبادتگاه یافته بودند از سر تا به آخر برای شان قرائت کرد.

³The king stood by the pillar, and made a covenant before Yahweh, to walk after Yahweh, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and all his soul, to confirm the words of this covenant that were written in this book: and all the people stood to the covenant.

³بعد پادشاه پیش ستونی ایستاد و پیمانی با خداوند بست تا به موجب آن همگی از احکام، فرایض و اوامر خداوند از دل و جان اطاعت کنند و مطابق شرایطی که در کتاب ذکر شده اند رفتار نمایند. مردم هم وعده دادند که به آن پیمان وفادار باشند.

⁴The king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, and the priests of the second order, and the keepers of the threshold, to bring forth out of Yahweh’s temple all the vessels that were made for Baal, and for the Asherah, and for all the army of the sky, and he burned them outside of Jerusalem in the fields of the Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel.

⁴پادشاه به حِلقیا، رئیس کاهنان و سایر کاهنان و محافظین عبادتگاه خداوند امر کرد تا ظروفی را که برای بعل، اَشیره و ستارگان ساخته بودند از عبادتگاه بیاورند. بعد پادشاه همه را در وادی قِدرون سوختاند و خاکستر آن ها را به بیت ئیل برد.

⁵He put down the idolatrous priests, whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense in the high places in the cities of Judah, and in the places around Jerusalem; those also who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, and to the moon, and to the planets, and to all the army of the sky.

⁵او همه کاهنان بت پرست را که پادشاه یهودا در معابد بالای تپه های شهرهای یهودا و اطراف اورشلیم جهت ادای قربانی برای بعل، آفتاب، مهتاب و ستارگان گماشته بودند، برطرف کرد.

⁶He brought out the Asherah from the house of Yahweh, outside of Jerusalem, to the brook Kidron, and burned it at the brook Kidron, and beat it to dust, and cast its dust on the graves of the common people.

⁶بت اَشیره را که در عبادتگاه خداوند بود بیرون آورد و در خارج اورشلیم، در وادی قِدرون به آتش زد و به خاکستر تبدیلش کرد و بعد خاک آنرا بر قبرهای مردم عوام پاشید.

⁷He broke down the houses of the sodomites, that were in the house of Yahweh, where the women wove hangings for the Asherah.

⁷جای سکونت لواطت گران را که در عبادتگاه خداوند بود و زنها در آنجا برای بت اَشیره لباس می بافتند، ویران کرد.

⁸He brought all the priests out of the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba; and he broke down the high places of the gates that were at the entrance of the gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were on a man’s left hand at the gate of the city.

⁸او همه کاهنان را از شهرهای یهودا به اورشلیم آورد. قربانگاه هائی را که بر آن ها قربانی تقدیم می شد ـ از جِبَع تا بئرشِبع نجس ساخت. او همچنین قربانگاه هائی را که در مدخل دروازۀ یوشع، حاکم شهر، در سمت چپ دروازۀ شهر بودند تخریب کرد.

⁹Nevertheless the priests of the high places didn’t come up to the altar of Yahweh in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brothers.

⁹گرچه کاهنان آن معابد اجازه نداشتند که در عبادتگاه خداوند خدمت کنند، اما از نان فطیریکه برای دیگر کاهنان تهیه می شد می خوردند.

¹⁰He defiled Topheth, which is in the valley of the children of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter to pass through the fire to Molech.

¹⁰معبد توفَت را که در وادی بنی هِنوم بود نجس ساخت تا کسی نتواند پسر یا دختر خود را برای مولک در آتش قربانی کند.

¹¹He took away the horses that the kings of Judah had given to the sun, at the entrance of the house of Yahweh, by the room of Nathan Melech the officer, who was in the court; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire.

¹¹او اسپهای را که پادشاهان یهودا برای خدای آفتاب وقف کرده بود، از آنجا بیرون کرد و عراده های آن ها را سوختاند. (اینها در حویلی معبد نزدیک دروازه و در کنار اقامتگاه یکی از مأمورین عالیرتبه بنام نتنملک نگهداری می شد.)

¹²The king broke down the altars that were on the roof of the upper room of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of Yahweh, and beat them down from there, and cast their dust into the brook Kidron.

¹²قربانگاه هائی را که پادشاهان یهودا بر بام بالاخانۀ آحاز، پادشاه اسرائیل ساخته بودند با قربانگاه هائی که منسی در دو حویلی عبادتگاه خداوند آباد کرده بود ویران ساخت و خاک و سنگ آن ها را در وادی قِدرون انداخت.

¹³The the king defiled the high places that were before Jerusalem, which were on the right hand of the mountain of corruption, which Solomon the king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, and for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, and for Milcom the abomination of the children of Ammon.

¹³او معابد بالای تپه هائی را که سلیمان، پادشاه اسرائیل برای پرستش اَشتُورَت، خدای منفور سِیدونی ها، کموش، خدای منفور موآبیان و مولِک، خدای منفور عمونیان در شرق اورشلیم و در جنوب کوهِ فساد ساخته بود نجس ساخت.

¹⁴He broke in pieces the pillars, and cut down the Asherim, and filled their places with the bones of men.

¹⁴ستونها را ویران نمود و بت اَشیره را ذره ذره کرد و جای آن را با استخوان های انسان پوشاند.

¹⁵Moreover the altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, had made, even that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and beat it to dust, and burned the Asherah.

¹⁵برعلاوه قربانگاه بیت ئیل و معابد بلندی را که یَرُبعام، پسر نباط، یعنی کسی که مردم اسرائیل را براه گناه برد، ساخته بود ویران کرد. معابد بالای تپه ها را به آتش زد و خاکستر ساخت و اَشیره را هم سوختاند.

¹⁶As Josiah turned himself, he spied the tombs that were there in the mountain; and he sent, and took the bones out of the tombs, and burned them on the altar, and defiled it, according to the word of Yahweh which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these things.

¹⁶وقتی یوشیا قبرها را بر سر کوه دید، امر کرد که استخوان ها را از قبر بیرون کنند و بر سر قربانگاه بسوزانند. به این ترتیب قربانگاه نجس شد و همانطوری که آن مرد خدا به یَرُبعام پیشگوئی کرده بود همه چیز موبمو عملی گردید.

¹⁷Then he said, “What monument is that which I see?” The men of the city told him, “It is the tomb of the man of God, who came from Judah, and proclaimed these things that you have done against the altar of Bethel.”

¹⁷یوشیا پرسید: «این منار یادگار از کیست؟» مردم شهر جواب دادند: «این مقبرۀ یک مرد خدا است که از یهودا آمد و او همین کاری را که تو امروز در حصۀ قربانگاه کردی پیشگوئی نمود.»

¹⁸He said, “Let him be! Let no man move his bones.” So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet who came out of Samaria.

¹⁸یوشیا گفت: «مقبره را بحالش بگذارید و استخوان هایش را به جائی نبرید.» پس آن ها به استخوان های او و استخوان های آن نبی که از سامره آمده بود دست نزدند.

¹⁹All the houses also of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke Yahweh to anger, Josiah took away, and did to them according to all the acts that he had done in Bethel.

¹⁹یوشیا معابد بالای تپه ها را که پادشاهان اسرائیل در شهرهای سامره ساخته و با آن کار خود خشم خداوند را برانگیخته بودند از بین برد و همان بلائی را که بر سر قربانگاههای بیت ئیل آورد بر سر قربانگاههای آنجا هم آورد.

²⁰He killed all the priests of the high places that were there, on the altars, and burned men’s bones on them; and he returned to Jerusalem.

²⁰تمام کاهنان بتخانه ها را بر سر همان قربانگاهی که خدمت می کردند بقتل رساند و استخوان های انسانها را بر آن ها سوختاند. سپس به اورشلیم برگشت.

²¹The king commanded all the people, saying, “Keep the Passover to Yahweh your God, as it is written in this book of the covenant.”

²¹یوشیا به عموم مردم امر کرد که عید فصح را برای تجلیل خداوند، خدای خود مطابق کتاب پیمان برگزار کنند.

²²Surely there was not kept such a Passover from the days of the judges who judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel, nor of the kings of Judah;

²²از زمان داورانی که بر اسرائیل داوری می کردند تا آن روز هیچ پادشاهی از اسرائیل یا یهودا چنان عیدی را برگزار نکرده بود.

²³but in the eighteenth year of king Josiah was this Passover kept to Yahweh in Jerusalem.

²³به این ترتیب، بعد از سالهای زیادی، در سال هجدهم سلطنت یوشیا عید فصح در اورشلیم تجلیل شد.

²⁴Moreover Josiah removed those who had familiar spirits, and the wizards, and the teraphim, and the idols, and all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might confirm the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of Yahweh.

²⁴یوشیا همچنین فالبین ها، جادوگران، بت های خانگی و همه انواع و وسایل بت پرستان را از سرزمین یهودا و اورشلیم از بین برد، تا اوامر کتاب تورات که حِلقیای کاهن آن را در عبادتگاه یافت، بجا آورده شود.

²⁵Like him was there no king before him, who turned to Yahweh with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the law of Moses; neither after him arose there any like him.

²⁵یوشیا از دل و جان بندگی خداوند را بجا آورد و هیچ پادشاهی، نه پیش از او و نه بعد از او، از احکام تورات موسی مثل یوشیا با ایمان راسخ پیروی نکرده بود.

²⁶Notwithstanding, Yahweh didn’t turn from the fierceness of his great wrath, with which his anger was kindled against Judah, because of all the provocation with which Manasseh had provoked him.

²⁶با همۀ اینها از شدت خشم خداوند در مقابل یهودا کاسته نشد، زیرا خداوند از کارهای منسی متنفر بود.

²⁷Yahweh said, “I will remove Judah also out of my sight, as I have removed Israel, and I will cast off this city which I have chosen, even Jerusalem, and the house of which I said, ‘My name shall be there.’”

²⁷خداوند فرمود: «مثلیکه اسرائیل را از حضور خود راندم، یهودا را هم از بین می برم. همچنین اورشلیم را که شهر برگزیدۀ من بود با عبادتگاهی که نام خود را بر آن گذاشته بودم ترک می کنم.»

²⁸Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?

²⁸بقیه وقایع دوران سلطنت یوشیا و کار های او در کتاب تاریخ پادشاهان یهودا ذکر شده اند.

²⁹In his days Pharaoh Necoh king of Egypt went up against the king of Assyria to the river Euphrates: and king Josiah went against him; and Pharaoh Necoh killed him at Megiddo, when he had seen him.

²⁹در زمان حکومت او فرعون نِکو، پادشاه مصر برای کمک به پادشاه آشور در کنار دریای فرات رفت و یوشیا برای مقابله شتافت، اما وقتی با پادشاه مصر در مِجِدو مقابل شد، فرعون او را کشت.

³⁰His servants carried him in a chariot dead from Megiddo, and brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. The people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah, and anointed him, and made him king in his father’s place.

³⁰مأمورینش جنازۀ او را ذریعۀ عراده از مِجِدو به اورشلیم حمل کردند و در مقبرۀ خودش بخاک سپردند. مردم یهودا پسرش، یَهُواحاز را بجای او به پادشاهی انتخاب کردند.

³¹Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign; and he reigned three months in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah.

³¹یَهُواحاز بیست و سه ساله بود که بر تخت سلطنت نشست و مدت سه ماه در اورشلیم پادشاهی کرد. نام مادرش حَموطل، دختر ارمیا و از اهالی لِبنَه بود.

³²He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, according to all that his fathers had done.

³²او مثل اجداد خود کارهائی کرد که در نظر خداوند زشت بود.

³³Pharaoh Necoh put him in bonds at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and put the land to a tribute of one hundred talents of silver, and a talent of gold.

³³فرعون نِکو در رِبله، در سرزمین حمات، او را در زندان انداخت تا دیگر نتواند در اورشلیم سلطنت کند، و کشور یهودا را مجبور کرد که سالانه سه هزار و چهارصد کیلو نقره و سی و چهار کیلو طلا جزیه بدهد.

³⁴Pharaoh Necoh made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in the place of Josiah his father, and changed his name to Jehoiakim: but he took Jehoahaz away; and he came to Egypt, and died there.

³⁴بعد فرعون نِکو اِلیاقِیم، یکی دیگر از پسران یوشیا را پادشاه ساخت و نامش را به یَهویاقیم تبدیل کرد. اما یَهُواحاز را با خود به مصر برد و او در همانجا درگذشت.

³⁵Jehoiakim gave the silver and the gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give the money according to the commandment of Pharaoh: he exacted the silver and the gold of the people of the land, of everyone according to his taxation, to give it to Pharaoh Necoh.

³⁵یَهویاقیم بر مردم مالیه مقرر کرد تا از پول آن، نقره و طلا خریده به فرعون نِکو بفرستد.

³⁶Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah.

³⁶یَهویاقیم بیست و پنج ساله بود که به سلطنت رسید و مدت یازده سال در اورشلیم پادشاهی کرد. نام مادرش زُبیده، دختر فِدایه و از مردم رومه بود.او مثل پدران خود در برابر خداوند گناه ورزید.

³⁷He did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, according to all that his fathers had done.

³⁷او مثل پدران خود در برابر خداوند گناه ورزید.
