¹Now the apostles and the brothers The word for “brothers” here and where context allows may also be correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

¹به رسولان و برادران مقیم یهودیه خبر رسید که غیر یهودیان نیز پیام خدا را پذیرفته اند.

²When Peter had come up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision contended with him,

²هنگامیکه پِترُس به اورشلیم بازگشت، کسانی که سنت کردن غیر یهودیان اصرار داشتند به او اعتراض کرده گفتند:

³saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men, and ate with them!”

³«چرا به خانه سنت ناشدگان داخل شدی و حتی با آن ها غذا خوردی؟»

⁴But Peter began, and explained to them in order, saying,

⁴پِترُس شروع کرد و تمام جریان را از اول تا به آخر برای ایشان شرح داد و گفت:

⁵“I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision: a certain container descending, like it was a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners. It came as far as me.

⁵«در یافا به دعا مشغول بودم که حالت جذبه ای به من دست داد و در رؤیا چیزی دیدم مانند یک دسترخوان کلان که از چهار گوشه آویزان شده بود و از آسمان به پائین آمد تا به من رسید.

⁶When I had looked intently at it, I considered, and saw the four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky.

⁶وقتی با دقت به آن نگاه کردم دیدم که در آن چهارپایان و حیوانات وحشی و خزندگان و پرندگان جمع شده اند

⁷I also heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter, kill and eat!’

⁷و صدایی بگوشم رسید که می گفت: «ای پِترُس برخیز، ذبح کن و بخور.»

⁸But I said, ‘Not so, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.’

⁸گفتم «نخیر، ای خداوند من هرگز به چیزی حرام یا نجس لب نزده ام.»

⁹But a voice answered me the second time out of heaven, ‘What God has cleansed, don’t you call unclean.’

⁹بار دوم صدائی از آسمان رسید که می گفت: «آنچه را که خدا پاک کرده است تو نباید نجس بخوانی.»

¹⁰This was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven.

¹⁰این موضوع سه بار تکرار شد و بالاخره همه چیز به آسمان بالا رفت.

¹¹Behold, immediately three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent from Caesarea to me.

¹²The Spirit told me to go with them, without discriminating. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house.

¹³He told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying to him, ‘Send to Joppa, and get Simon, whose surname is Peter,

¹³او برای ما گفت که چطور در خانۀ خود فرشته ای را دیده که ایستاده و به او گفته است: «کسی را به یافا بفرست و شمعونِ ملقب به پِترُس را بیاور

¹⁴who will speak to you words by which you will be saved, you and all your house.’

¹⁴و او آن پیامی را که باعث نجات تو و تمامی اهل خانه ات خواهد شد به تو خواهد رسانید.»

¹⁵As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning.

¹⁵من در آنجا هنوز مطالب زیادی نگفته بودم که روح القدس بر آن ها نازل شد، به همان طریقی که در ابتدا به خود ما نازل شده بود.

¹⁶I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.’

¹⁶و آنگاه بخاطر آوردم که خداوند فرموده بود: «یحیی با آب تعمید می داد اما شما با روح القدس تعمید خواهید یافت.»

¹⁷If then God gave to them the same gift as us, when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?”

¹⁷خدا به آنها همان بخششی را عطا کرده است که به ما در وقتی که به عیسی مسیح خداوند ایمان آوردیم عطا فرمود، پس من کی بودم که مانع کار خدا شوم؟»

¹⁸When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life!”

¹⁸وقتی این را شنیدند خاموش ماندند و در حالی که خدا را ستایش می کردند گفتند: «پس در این صورت خدا به غیر یهودیان نیز این فرصت را بخشیده است تا آن ها هم از گناهان خود توبه کنند و زندگی یابند.»

¹⁹They therefore who were scattered abroad by the oppression that arose about Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews only.

¹⁹در اثر شکنجه و آزاری که به دنبال مرگ استیفان آغاز شد، عدۀ زیادی پراگنده شدند و تا فنیقیه و قبرس و شهر انطاکیه مهاجرت کردند. اما آنها پیام خود را به هیچ کسی جز یهودیان اعلام نکردند

²⁰But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, A Hellenist is someone who keeps Greek customs and culture. preaching the Lord Jesus.

²⁰ولی در میان ایشان چند نفر از اهالی قبرس و قیروان نیز بودند که به محض رسیدن به انطاکیه با یونانیان به صحبت پرداختند و دربارۀ عیسی خداوند بشارت دادند.

²¹The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.

²¹قدرت خداوند با ایشان بود و عدۀ زیادی ایمان آورده به خداوند روی آوردند.

²²The report concerning them came to the ears of the assembly which was in Jerusalem. They sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch,

²²این خبر در اورشلیم به کلیسا رسید و در نتیجه برنابا وظیفه یافت که به انطاکیه سفر نماید.

²³who, when he had come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad. He exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they should remain near to the Lord.

²³وقتی او به آنجا رسید و برکات خدا را با چشم خود دید، شادمان شد و آنها را تشویق و نصیحت می کرد که از دل و جان در وفاداری نسبت به خداوند استوار بمانند.

²⁴For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith, and many people were added to the Lord.

²⁴او مردی نیکوکار و پُر از روح القدس و ایمان بود. پس عده زیادی به خداوند ایمان آوردند.

²⁵Barnabas went out to Tarsus to look for Saul.

²⁵بعد از آن برنابا به شهر ترسوس رفت تا شائول را پیدا کند.

²⁶When he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. It happened, that for a whole year they were gathered together with the assembly, and taught many people. The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

²⁶پس او را یافته به انطاکیه آورد و مدت یک سال تمام با ایمانداران جمع می شدند و عدۀ بسیاری را تعلیم می دادند. در انطاکیه بود که برای اولین بار پیروان عیسی را مسیحی نامیدند.

²⁷Now in these days, prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

²⁷در همین احوال چند نفر نبی از اورشلیم به انطاکیه وارد شدند.

²⁸One of them named Agabus stood up, and indicated by the Spirit that there should be a great famine all over the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius.

²⁸یکی از آنها که اغابوس نام داشت، برخاست و با الهام روح پیشگویی کرد که قحطی سختی در سرتاسر دنیای روم خواهد آمد. این قحطی در زمان سلطنت کلودیوس امپراطور واقع شد.

²⁹As any of the disciples had plenty, each determined to send relief to the brothers who lived in Judea;

²⁹از این نظر شاگردان تصمیم گرفتند هرکس به قدر توانائی خود اعانه ای برای یاری برادران مقیم یهودیه بفرستد.چنین کردند، اعانه ها را به دست برنابا و شائول سپردند تا به رهبران کلیسای اورشلیم تقدیم کنند.
