¹Nebuchadnezzar the king, to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.

¹نبوکدنصر پادشاه، به همۀ مردم سراسر جهان، از هر قبیله و ملت و زبان پیغام فرستاده گفت: «درود بر شما.

²It has seemed good to me to show the signs and wonders that the Most High God has worked toward me.

²من می خواهم تمام کارهای عجیب و معجزاتی را که خدای تعالی به من نشان داده است به شما بگویم:

³How great are his signs! and how mighty are his wonders! his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and his dominion is from generation to generation.

³کارهای عجیبی که خدا به ما نشان داده است، چقدر بزرگ و معجزاتی که او انجام داده، چقدر باشکوه اند. خدا پادشاه جاودانی و سلطنت او سلطنت ابدی است.

⁴I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at rest in my house, and flourishing in my palace.

⁴من در قصر خود براحتی زندگی می کردم و از آسایش و شادمانی برخوردار بودم.

⁵I saw a dream which made me afraid; and the thoughts on my bed and the visions of my head troubled me.

⁵اما خواب وحشتناکی دیدم که مرا مضطرب و پریشان ساخت.

⁶Therefore made I a decree to bring in all the wise men of Babylon before me, that they might make known to me the interpretation of the dream.

⁶امر کردم که تمام حکیمان سلطنتی را از سراسر بابل به حضور من بیاورند تا آن ها تعبیر خواب مرا برایم بگویند.

⁷Then came in the magicians, the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers; and I told the dream before them; but they did not make known to me its interpretation.

⁷همۀ پیشگویان و جادوگران و حکیمان و ستاره شناسان به حضور من آمدند و من خواب خود را برای آن ها تعریف کردم. اما آن ها نتوانستند آنرا برایم تعبیر کنند.

⁸But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the holy gods: and I told the dream before him, saying,

⁸بالاخره دانیال، که اسم خدای خود بِلطشزر را بر او گذاشته ام، آمد. او دارای روح خدایان مقدس می باشد. من خواب خود را برای او تعریف کردم.

⁹Belteshazzar, master of the magicians, because I know that the spirit of the holy gods is in you, and no secret troubles you, tell me the visions of my dream that I have seen, and its interpretation.

⁹به او گفتم: ای بِلطشزر، رئیس ستاره شناسان، من می دانم که تو دارای روح خدایان مقدس هستی و هیچ رازی بر تو پوشیده نیست. این خواب من است و از تو می خواهم آن را برای من تعبیر کنی:

¹⁰Thus were the visions of my head on my bed: I saw, and behold, a tree in the midst of the earth; and its height was great.

¹⁰در خواب دیدم که درخت بزرگ و بسیار بلندی در وسط زمین بود.

¹¹The tree grew, and was strong, and its height reached to the sky, and its sight to the end of all the earth.

¹¹این درخت آنقدر بزرگ شد که سرش به آسمان رسید، بطوری که تمام مردم در سراسر جهان می توانستند آنرا ببینند.

¹²The leaves of it were beautiful, and its fruit much, and in it was food for all: the animals of the field had shadow under it, and the birds of the sky lived in its branches, and all flesh was fed from it.

¹²برگهای قشنگی داشت و میوۀ آن هم بسیار زیاد بود به حدی که برای خوردن تمام مردم کافی بود. حیوانات وحشی در سایه آن استراحت می کردند و پرندگان در شاخه هایش آشیانه ساخته بودند و تمام جانداران از میوۀ آن می خوردند.

¹³I saw in the visions of my head on my bed, and behold, a watcher and a holy one came down from the sky.

¹³همینطور که دربارۀ این رؤیا فکر می کردم، دیدم که فرشتۀ نگهبان و مقدسی از آسمان پائین آمد

¹⁴He cried aloud, and said thus, Cut down the tree, and cut off its branches, shake off its leaves, and scatter its fruit: let the animals get away from under it, and the fowls from its branches.

¹⁴او فریاد می کرد: درخت را ببرید و شاخه هایش را قطع نمائید. برگهایش را به زمین بریزید و میوه هایش را پراگنده سازید و حیوانات را از زیر آن رانده و پرندگان را از شاخه های آن بیرون کنید.

¹⁵Nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field; and let it be wet with the dew of the sky: and let his portion be with the animals in the grass of the earth:

¹⁵اما کُنده و ریشه اش را با زنجیر آهنی و برنجی ببندید و در میان مزارع و علفزارها رها کنید. بگذارید شبنم بر آن ببارد و او با حیوانات و در بین علفها زندگی کند.

¹⁶let his heart be changed from man’s, and let an animal’s heart be given to him; and let seven times pass over him.

¹⁶او به مدت هفت سال خوی انسانی خود را از دست خواهد داد و دارای افکار حیوانی خواهد شد.

¹⁷The sentence is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones; to the intent that the living may know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will, and sets up over it the lowest of men.

¹⁷این امر به ارادۀ فرشتگان نگهبان و فرمان مقدسین واقع خواهد شد. تا همۀ مردم بدانند که خدای متعال بر تمام سرزمین های جهان فرمانروائی می کند و آنرا به هر که بخواهد، حتی به پست ترین مردم می دهد.

¹⁸This dream I, king Nebuchadnezzar, have seen; and you, Belteshazzar, declare the interpretation, because all the wise men of my kingdom are not able to make known to me the interpretation; but you are able; for the spirit of the holy gods is in you.

¹⁸این خوابی بود که من ـ نبوکدنصر پادشاه ـ دیده ام. حالا ای بِلطشزر تو تعبیر آن را برای من بگو. چون هیچیک از حکیمان کشور من نتوانست آن را تعبیر کند. اما تو می توانی، زیرا دارای روح خدایان مقدس هستی.»

¹⁹Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was stricken mute for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king answered, Belteshazzar, don’t let the dream, or the interpretation, trouble you. Belteshazzar answered, My lord, the dream be to those who hate you, and its interpretation to your adversaries.

¹⁹دانیال که نبوکدنصر او را بِلطشزر نامیده بود طوری از این رؤیا پریشان و ترسان شد که نتوانست چیزی بگوید. پادشاه به او گفت: «بِلطشزر، مگذار که خواب و تعبیر آن ترا هراسان کند.» بِلطشزر گفت: «ای پادشاه، آرزو می کنم که خواب و تعبیر آن برای دشمنان تو باشد، نه برای تو.

²⁰The tree that you saw, which grew, and was strong, whose height reached to the sky, and its sight to all the earth;

²⁰درخت بلندی دیدی که تا به آسمان رسیده بود و تمام مردم جهان می توانستند آن را ببینند.

²¹whose leaves were beautiful, and its fruit much, and in it was food for all; under which the animals of the field lived, and on whose branches the birds of the sky had their habitation:

²¹برگهای قشنگی داشت و میوۀ آن بقدری زیاد بود که برای خوراک تمام مردم کافی بود، حیوانات وحشی در سایه اش استراحت می کردند و پرندگان در شاخه های آن آشیانه ساخته بودند.

²²it is you, O king, that are grown and become strong; for your greatness is grown, and reaches to the sky, and your dominion to the end of the earth.

²²ای پادشاه، آن درخت تو هستی که بزرگ و قوی شده ای و بزرگی و شکوه تو به آسمان رسیده و فرمانروائی تو سراسر جهان را فرا گرفته است.

²³Whereas the king saw a watcher and a holy one coming down from the sky, and saying, Cut down the tree, and destroy it; nevertheless leave the stump of its roots in the earth, even with a band of iron and brass, in the tender grass of the field, and let it be wet with the dew of the sky: and let his portion be with the animals of the field, until seven times pass over him;

²³ای پادشاه، تو فرشتۀ مقدسی را دیدی که از آسمان به پائین آمد و گفت: «درخت را قطع کنید و از بین ببرید. اما کُنده و ریشه هایش را با زنجیر آهنی و برنجی ببندید و در میان علفزارها و مزارع رها کنید. شبنم آسمان ها بر آن ببارد و هفت سال با حیوانات زندگی کند.»

²⁴this is the interpretation, O king, and it is the decree of the Most High, which has come on my lord the king:

²⁴ای پادشاه، تعبیر خواب و فرمانی که از طرف خدای متعال برای تو صادر شده این است.

²⁵that you shall be driven from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field, and you shall be made to eat grass as oxen, and shall be wet with the dew of the sky, and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

²⁵تو را از میان مردم بیرون خواهند کرد و با حیوانات وحشی زندگی خواهی نمود. مثل گاو به تو علف می دهند و شبنم آسمان بر سر تو خواهد بارید. هفت سال به این ترتیب خواهد گذشت تا تو بدانی که خدای متعال بر تمام ممالک جهان فرمانروائی می کند و آن را به هر که بخواهد می دهد.

²⁶Whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the roots of the tree; your kingdom shall be sure to you, after that you shall have known that the heavens do rule.

²⁶فرشته گفتند: «کُنده و ریشۀ درخت را در زمین بگذارید.» معنی آن این است: بعد از اینکه تو دانستی فرمانروائی از جانب خداوند است، دوباره پادشاه خواهی شد.

²⁷Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness, and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor; if there may be a lengthening of your tranquility.

²⁷ای پادشاه، نصیحت مرا گوش کن و با انجام کارهای نیک از گناهان خود دست بردار و بجای خطاهای خود به فقرا احسان کن، شاید این امر عاقبت تو را به خیر بگرداند.»

²⁸All this came on the king Nebuchadnezzar.

²⁸همۀ این امور برای نبوکدنصر پادشاه اتفاق افتاد.

²⁹At the end of twelve months he was walking in the royal palace of Babylon.

²⁹بعد از دوازده ماه، هنگامی که پادشاه بر سر بام، در بالای قصر سلطنتی بابل گردش می کرد

³⁰The king spoke and said, Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for the royal dwelling place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?

³⁰ناگهان گفت: «ببینید این بابل است که من با توانائی و قدرت برای شکوه خود بعنوان پایتخت خویش ساخته ام.»

³¹While the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from the sky, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken: The kingdom has departed from you:

³¹این حرف هنوز تمام نشده بود که صدائی از آسمان شنیده شد که می گفت: «ای نبوکدنصر پادشاه، بدان که سلطنت از تو گرفته می شود.

³²and you shall be driven from men; and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field; you shall be made to eat grass as oxen; and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

³²تو از میان مردم بیرون انداخته می شوی. با حیوانات وحشی زندگی خواهی کرد و مدت هفت سال مثل گاو علف خواهی خورد. بعد از آن خواهی دانست که خدای متعال بر تمام ممالک جهان فرمانروائی می کند و آنرا به هر که بخواهد می دهد.»

³³The same hour was the thing fulfilled on Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and ate grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky, until his hair was grown like eagles’ feathers, and his nails like birds’ claws.

³³در همین موقع رؤیای نبوکدنصر به حقیقت پیوست. او را از میان مردم بیرون کردند. مانند گاو علف می خورد و شبنم آسمان بر بدنش می بارید. موهای او مثل شهپرِ عقاب و ناخن هایش مانند پنجه های مرغ شده بودند.

³⁴At the end of the days I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted up my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me, and I blessed the Most High, and I praised and honored him who lives forever; for his dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom from generation to generation.

³⁴«بعد از اینکه هفت سال گذشت، من که نبوکدنصر هستم، به طرف آسمان نگاه کردم. عقل من دوباره برگشت و خدای متعال را ستایش کردم و او را که ابدی و جاودانی است پرستش نمودم. او تا ابدالآباد فرمانروائی می کند و سلطنت او جاودانی است.

³⁵All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing; and he does according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth; and none can stay his hand, or ask him, What are you doing?

³⁵همۀ مردم زمین در مقابل او هیچ هستند. با لشکرهای آسمانی و تمام مردم جهان مطابق ارادۀ خود عمل می کند. کسی نمی تواند، مانع او بشود و یا از او بپرسد: «چرا چنین می کنی؟»

³⁶At the same time my understanding returned to me; and for the glory of my kingdom, my majesty and brightness returned to me; and my counselors and my lords sought to me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent greatness was added to me.

³⁶هنگامی که عقل من برگشت، قدرت و شکوه سلطنت دوباره به من داده شد و مشاوران و امرای من از من استقبال نمودند و من دوباره با شکوه و قدرتِ بیشتری به سلطنت رسیدم.حالا من که نبوکدنصر پادشاه هستم، پادشاه آسمان ها را حمد و سپاس می گویم. عظمت و جلال از آنِ اوست که تمام کارهایش حق و حقیقت است و می تواند متکبران را فروتن و پست سازد.»

³⁷Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven; for all his works are truth, and his ways justice; and those who walk in pride he is able to abase.

³⁷حالا من که نبوکدنصر پادشاه هستم، پادشاه آسمان ها را حمد و سپاس می گویم. عظمت و جلال از آنِ اوست که تمام کارهایش حق و حقیقت است و می تواند متکبران را فروتن و پست سازد.»
