¹Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand.

¹یک شب بِلشزر پادشاه مهمانی بزرگی ترتیب داد و هزار نفر از امرای بابل را در آن مهمانی دعوت کرد و در مقابل همۀ مهمانان شراب نوشید.

²Belshazzar, while he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, might drink from them.

²چون در اثر شراب سرش گرم شده بود، امر کرد تا ظروف طلائی و نقره یی را که پدرش، نبوکدنصر از عبادتگاه خدا در اورشلیم آورده بود بیاورند تا او و زنها و کنیزانش و همۀ بزرگان در آن ها شراب بنوشند.

³Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of God’s house which was at Jerusalem; and the king and his lords, his wives and his concubines, drank from them.

³فوراً ظروف طلائی و نقره یی را که از عبادتگاه خدا در اورشلیم آورده شده بود حاضر کردند و پادشاه و زنها و کنیزانش و امرای او در آن ها شراب نوشیدند

⁴They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

⁴و خدایان طلائی، نقره یی، برنجی، آهنی، چوبی و سنگی را پرستش نمودند.

⁵In the same hour came forth the fingers of a man’s hand, and wrote over against the lampstand on the plaster of the wall of the king’s palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote.

⁵در آن هنگام ناگهان انگشتهای دست انسانی ظاهر شد و در برابر شمعدانها بر روی دیوار گچی قصر پادشاه شروع به نوشتن کرد. چون پادشاه آن دست را در حال نوشتن روی دیوار دید.

⁶Then the king’s face was changed in him, and his thoughts troubled him; and the joints of his thighs were loosened, and his knees struck one against another.

⁶به وحشت افتاده، آشفته و ترسان گردید و زانوهایش به لرزه در آمد.

⁷The king cried aloud to bring in the enchanters, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. The king spoke and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whoever shall read this writing, and show me its interpretation, shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.

⁷و با صدای بلند فریاد کرد تا همۀ حکیمان و جادوگران و ستاره شناسان را حاضر کنند. آنوقت به حکیمان بابل گفت: «هر کس این نوشته را بخواند و معنی آن را برای من بگوید، لباسهای ارغوانی بر او خواهم پوشانید، طوق زرین بر گردنش خواهم انداخت و او را حاکم سوم مملکت خود خواهم گردانید.»

⁸Then came in all the king’s wise men; but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation.

⁸همۀ حکیمان پادشاه فوراً حاضر شدند، اما هیچیک از آن ها نتوانست آن نوشته را بخواند و یا معنی آن را به پادشاه بگوید.

⁹Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his face was changed in him, and his lords were perplexed.

⁹پس بِلشزر بسیار پریشان شده و رنگ از رویش پرید و تمام امرای او هم پریشان شدند.

¹⁰ Now the queen by reason of the words of the king and his lords came into the banquet house: the queen spoke and said, O king, live forever; don’t let your thoughts trouble you, nor let your face be changed.

¹⁰در این هنگام ملکه، که سر و صدای آن ها را شنیده بود، به سالون مهمانی وارد شد و گفت: «عمر پادشاه دراز باد، خاطرت پریشان و هراسان نشود.

¹¹There is a man in your kingdom, in whom is the spirit of the holy gods; and in the days of your father light and understanding and wisdom, like the wisdom of the gods, were found in him; and the king Nebuchadnezzar your father, the king, I say, your father, made him master of the magicians, enchanters, Chaldeans, and soothsayers;

¹¹در مملکت تو مردی هست که روح خدایان مقدس را دارد. در زمان پدرت، حکمت و دانش و هوش خدائی در او دیده شد و پدرت نبوکدنصر پادشاه او را به ریاست ستاره شناسان، جادوگران و حکیمان و پیشگویان برگزیده بود.

¹²because an excellent spirit, and knowledge, and understanding, interpreting of dreams, and showing of dark sentences, and dissolving of doubts, were found in the same Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar. Now let Daniel be called, and he will show the interpretation.

¹²این شخص که نامش دانیال است و پدرت او را بِلطشزر نامیده بود، دارای فهم و دانش فوق العاده ای است که می تواند خوابها را تعبیر کند، معماها را حل نماید و رازهای نهان را فاش سازد. حالا کسی را بفرست که دانیال را بیاورد تا معنی این نوشته را برایت بگوید.»

¹³Then was Daniel brought in before the king. The king spoke and said to Daniel, Are you that Daniel, who are of the children of the captivity of Judah, whom the king my father brought out of Judah?

¹³دانیال را بحضور پادشاه آوردند. پادشاه به دانیال گفت: «آیا تو همان دانیال هستی که از اسیران یهود می باشد و پدرم از یهودا آورده است؟

¹⁴I have heard of you, that the spirit of the gods is in you, and that light and understanding and excellent wisdom are found in you.

¹⁴شنیده ام که روح خدایان مقدس در تو هست و هوش و حکمت و دانائی مخصوص داری.

¹⁵Now the wise men, the enchanters, have been brought in before me, that they should read this writing, and make known to me its interpretation; but they could not show the interpretation of the thing.

¹⁵جادوگران و حکیمان را به اینجا آوردند تا این نوشته را بخوانند و برای من معنی کنند، اما هیچکدام نتوانست معنی آنرا به من بگوید.

¹⁶But I have heard of you, that you can give interpretations, and dissolve doubts; now if you can read the writing, and make known to me its interpretation, you shall be clothed with purple, and have a chain of gold about your neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom.

¹⁶دربارۀ تو شنیده ام که می توانی تعبیر خواب را کنی و اسرار پنهانی را فاش سازی. حالا اگر بتوانی این نوشته را بخوانی و معنی آن را بگوئی لباسهای ارغوانی بر تو خواهم پوشانید و طوق زرین بر گردنت می اندازم و تو را حاکم سوم مملکت خود میسازم.»

¹⁷Then Daniel answered before the king, Let your gifts be to yourself, and give your rewards to another; nevertheless I will read the writing to the king, and make known to him the interpretation.

¹⁷دانیال به پادشاه گفت: «هدایایت را برای خودت نگاهدار و یا به شخص دیگری بده. من نوشته را برای تو می خوانم و معنی آنرا برایت می گویم.

¹⁸You, king, the Most High God gave Nebuchadnezzar your father the kingdom, and greatness, and glory, and majesty:

¹⁸ای پادشاه، خدای متعال به پدرت نبوکدنصر سلطنت و بزرگی و شکوه عطا فرمود.

¹⁹and because of the greatness that he gave him, all the peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him: whom he would he killed, and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he raised up, and whom he would he put down.

¹⁹او آنقدر با قدرت شده بود که تمام اقوام و ملل از هر زبان از او می ترسیدند. هر که را اراده می کرد، می کشت و هر که را می خواست زنده نگاه می داشت. هر که را می خواست به مقام عالی برساند، می رسانید و هر که را می خواست ذلیل کند، ذلیل می کرد.

²⁰But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him:

²⁰اما چون مغرور شد و تکبر نمود، از تخت سلطنت به زیر افتاد و قدرتش از او گرفته شد.

²¹and he was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like the animals’, and his dwelling was with the wild donkeys; he was fed with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of the sky; until he knew that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men, and that he sets up over it whomever he will.

²¹از میان مردم رانده شد و مثل حیوانات گردید و با خرهای وحشی زندگی می کرد و مثل گاو به او علف می دادند و شبنم آسمان بر بدنش می بارید، تا اینکه فهمید خدای متعال بر تمام ممالک جهان فرمانروائی می کند و هر که را بخواهد به سلطنت می رساند.

²²You, his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this,

²²تو پسرش، بِلشزر، با وجود اینکه همه اینها را می دانستی، خود را فروتن نکردی.

²³but have lifted up yourself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of his house before you, and you and your lords, your wives and your concubines, have drunk wine from them; and you have praised the gods of silver and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which don’t see, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand your breath is, and whose are all your ways, you have not glorified.

²³بلکه بر ضد خداوند آسمان ها رفتار نمودی و ظروف عبادتگاه او را پیش تو آوردند و تو و زنهایت و کنیزهایت و امرایت در آن ها شراب نوشیدید و خدایان نقره یی، طلائی، برنجی، آهنی، چوبی و سنگی را که نمی بینند و نمی شنوند و هیچ چیز را نمی دانند پرستش نمودید، اما خدائی را که جان تو و تمام کارهایت در دست او است پرستش و احترام نکردی.

²⁴Then was the part of the hand sent from before him, and this writing was inscribed.

²⁴پس این دست از طرف او فرستاده شد تا این کلمات را بنویسد.

²⁵This is the writing that was inscribed: MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.

²⁵اما آنچه که نوشته شده این است: «منا، منا، ثقیل و فرسین»

²⁶This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God has numbered your kingdom, and brought it to an end;

²⁶و معنی آن از این قرار است: منا، یعنی خدا روزهای سلطنت تو را شمرده و آن را بپایان رسانیده است.

²⁷TEKEL; you are weighed in the balances, and are found wanting.

²⁷ثقیل، یعنی در ترازو وزن شده و ناقص برآمدی.

²⁸PERES; your kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.

²⁸فرسین، یعنی سلطنت تو تقسیم گشته و به مادی ها و فارسی ها داده شده است.»

²⁹Then commanded Belshazzar, and they clothed Daniel with purple, and put a chain of gold about his neck, and made proclamation concerning him, that he should be the third ruler in the kingdom.

²⁹بِلشزر فوراً فرمان داد تا لباسهای ارغوانی بر دانیال بپوشانند و طوق زرین بر گردنش بیاندازند و اعلام کنند که او حاکم سوم مملکت می باشد.

³⁰In that night Belshazzar the Chaldean King was slain.

³⁰در همان شب، بِلشزر، پادشاه کلدانیان، کشته شدو داریوش مادی که در آن زمان شصت و دو ساله بود مملکت او را به تصرف خود درآورد.

³¹Darius the Mede received the kingdom, being about sixty-two years old.

³¹و داریوش مادی که در آن زمان شصت و دو ساله بود مملکت او را به تصرف خود درآورد.
