¹It pleased Darius to set over the kingdom one hundred twenty satraps, who should be throughout the whole kingdom;

¹داریوش تصمیم گرفت که یکصد و بیست والی در سراسر مملکت خود مقرر نماید.

²and over them three presidents, of whom Daniel was one; that these satraps might give account to them, and that the king should have no damage.

²سه وزیر را هم به سرپرستی آن ها انتخاب کرد که یکی از آن ها دانیال بود تا تمام والی ها حسابهای خود را به آن ها پس بدهند و هیچ ضرر مالی به پادشاه نرسد.

³Then this Daniel was distinguished above the presidents and the satraps, because an excellent spirit was in him; and the king thought to set him over the whole realm.

³بزودی مقام دانیال از وزرا و والی های دیگر بالا تر شد، زیرا دارای هوش و ذکاوت بیشتری بود. پادشاه در نظر داشت که دانیال را مسئول تمام مملکت خود بگرداند.

⁴Then the presidents and the satraps sought to find occasion against Daniel as touching the kingdom; but they could find no occasion nor fault, because he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him.

⁴اما وزیران و والی ها دنبال بهانه ای می گشتند تا در ادارۀ امور مملکتی از دانیال شکایت کنند، ولی نتوانستند هیچ بهانه ای به دست بیاورند، چونکه دانیال کاملاً امین و صادق بود و هرگز خطائی از او سر نمی زد.

⁵Then these men said, We shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it against him concerning the law of his God.

⁵پس به یکدیگر گفتند: «ما نمی توانیم هیچ علت و بهانه ای بر ضد دانیال پیدا کنیم، مگر اینکه دربارۀ قوانین مذهبی و خدای خودش، بهانه ای از او به دست بیاوریم.»

⁶Then these presidents and satraps assembled together to the king, and said thus to him, King Darius, live forever.

⁶پس به حضور داریوش رفتند و گفتند: «داریوش پادشاه تا ابد زنده باد!

⁷All the presidents of the kingdom, the deputies and the satraps, the counselors and the governors, have consulted together to establish a royal statute, and to make a strong decree, that whoever shall ask a petition of any god or man for thirty days, except of you, O king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.

⁷تمام وزرای مملکت و والی ها و مشاوران و حکام با هم مشورت کرده اند که پادشاه حکمی صادر فرماید و در آن منع کند که تا سی روز هر کس بغیر از داریوش پادشاه، از خدائی یا انسانی حاجتی در خواست بنماید، در چاه شیران انداخته شود.

⁸Now, O king, establish the decree, and sign the writing, that it not be changed, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which doesn’t alter.

⁸حالا، ای پادشاه، این حکم را صادر فرما و این فرمان را امضاء کن تا اینکه طبق قانون مادی ها و فارسی ها این حکم باطل نگردد.»

⁹Therefore king Darius signed the writing and the decree.

⁹داریوش پادشاه، این فرمان را امضاء کرد.

¹⁰When Daniel knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house (now his windows were open in his room toward Jerusalem) and he kneeled on his knees three times a day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did before.

¹⁰وقتی دانیال فهمید که چنین فرمانی صادر شده است، به خانۀ خود رفت در بالاخانۀ خود کلکینی را که به سوی اورشلیم باز می شد باز کرد و مانند گذشته، روزی سه مرتبه زانو زده و خدای خود را عبادت و پرستش نموده دعا می کرد.

¹¹Then these men assembled together, and found Daniel making petition and supplication before his God.

¹¹وقتی دشمنانش او را دیدند که نزد خدا دعا می کند،

¹²Then they came near, and spoke before the king concerning the king’s decree: Haven’t you signed an decree, that every man who shall make petition to any god or man within thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions? The king answered, The thing is true, according to the law of the Medes and Persians, which doesn’t alter.

¹²همگی به حضور پادشاه رفتند و گفتند: «ای پادشاه، آیا شما فرمان ندادید که هر کس تا سی روز بغیر از تو از خدائی یا انسانی حاجتی بخواهد در چاه شیران انداخته شود؟» پادشاه گفت: «بلی، درست است و این فرمان طبق قانون مادی ها و فارسی ها تغییر نمی پذیرد.»

¹³Then answered they and said before the king, That Daniel, who is of the children of the captivity of Judah, doesn’t respect you, O king, nor the decree that you have signed, but makes his petition three times a day.

¹³آن ها گفتند: «این دانیال که از اسیران یهودا می باشد، از تو ای پادشاه و از فرمان تو اطاعت نمی کند. او روزی سه مرتبه دعا و عبادت می کند.»

¹⁴Then the king, when he heard these words, was very displeased, and set his heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored until the going down of the sun to rescue him.

¹⁴پادشاه وقتی این را شنید بسیار پریشان شد و برای خلاصی دانیال می اندیشید و تا غروب آفتاب کوشش کرد که راهی برای نجات دانیال پیدا کند.

¹⁵Then these men assembled together to the king, and said to the king, Know, O king, that it is a law of the Medes and Persians, that no decree nor statute which the king establishes may be changed.

¹⁵سپس آن مردان به حضور پادشاه برگشتند و گفتند: «ای پادشاه، می دانی که بر طبق قانون مادی ها و فارسی ها، هر حکمی که توسط پادشاه صادر شود تغییر و تبدیل نمی پذیرد.»

¹⁶Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spoke and said to Daniel, Your God whom you serve continually, he will deliver you.

¹⁶بنابراین، پادشاه فرمان داد و دانیال را آوردند و او را در چاه شیران انداختند. پادشاه به دانیال گفت: «ای دانیال، امیدوارم خدائی که تو پیوسته او را پرستش می کنی، تو را نجات دهد.»

¹⁷A stone was brought, and laid on the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that nothing might be changed concerning Daniel.

¹⁷سپس سنگی را آوردند و آنرا بر دهانۀ چاه گذاشتند و پادشاه آن را با مُهر خود و با مُهر وزرای خود مُهر کرد تا کسی نتواند دانیال را نجات بدهد.

¹⁸Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting; neither were instruments of music brought before him: and his sleep fled from him.

¹⁸بعد از آن پادشاه به قصر خود برگشت و تا صبح روزه گرفت و اجازه نداد که وسایل عیش و عشرت را برای او بیاورند و تا صبح نتوانست بخوابد.

¹⁹Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste to the den of lions.

¹⁹صبح زود پادشاه برخاست و با عجله بر سر چاه شیران رفت.

²⁰When he came near to the den to Daniel, he cried with a lamentable voice; the king spoke and said to Daniel, Daniel, servant of the living God, is your God, whom you serve continually, able to deliver you from the lions?

²⁰وقتی به سر چاه رسید، با صدای گرفته ای دانیال را صدا کرد و گفت: «ای دانیال، بندۀ خدای زنده، آیا خدایی که تو پیوسته او را پرستش می کنی توانسته است ترا نجات بدهد؟»

²¹Then Daniel said to the king, O king, live forever.

²¹دانیال جواب داد: «پادشاه تا ابد زنده باد!

²²My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me; because as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, have I done no hurt.

²²خدا فرشتۀ خود را فرستاد و او دهان شیرها را بست تا به من صدمه ای نرسانند، زیرا که نه در پیشگاه او گناهی کرده ام و نه در حضور تو خطائی را مرتکب شده ام.»

²³Then was the king exceeding glad, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no kind of harm was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.

²³پادشاه بسیار خوشحال شد و امر کرد دانیال را از چاه بیرون بیاورند. دانیال را از چاه بیرون کشیدند و دیدند که هیچ صدمه ای به او نرسیده است، زیرا که بر خدا توکل کرده بود.

²⁴The king commanded, and they brought those men who had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions mauled them, and broke all their bones in pieces, before they came to the bottom of the den.

²⁴سپس پادشاه فرمان داد تا تمام کسانی را که از دانیال شکایت کرده بودند، آورده و همۀ آن ها را با زن و فرزندان شان در چاه شیران بیندازند. قبل از اینکه آن ها به تۀ چاه برسند شیرها حمله کردند و تمام استخوانهای آن ها را خُرد کردند.

²⁵Then king Darius wrote to all the peoples, nations, and languages, who dwell in all the earth: Peace be multiplied to you.

²⁵بعد از آن، داریوش پادشاه به تمام ملتها و اقوام و زبانهای مختلف ساکنین سراسر زمین نوشت: «صلح و سلامتی بر شما باد!

²⁶I make a decree, that in all the dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel; for he is the living God, and steadfast forever, His kingdom that which shall not be destroyed; and his dominion shall be even to the end.

²⁶این فرمان از طرف من است که در سراسر امپراطوری من، تمام مردم از حضور خدای دانیال بترسند، زیرا: او خدای زنده است. تا ابد پادشاهی خواهد کرد. سلطنت او بی زوال است. قدرتش هرگز بپایان نمی رسد.

²⁷He delivers and rescues, and he works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

²⁷او نجات می دهد و آزاد می کند. در آسمان و زمین کارهای عجیب و معجزات بعمل می آورد. او دانیال را از چنگ شیرها نجات داد.»بنابراین دانیال در زمان سلطنت داریوش و کورش فارسی موفق و کامیاب بود.

²⁸So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

²⁸بنابراین دانیال در زمان سلطنت داریوش و کورش فارسی موفق و کامیاب بود.
