¹In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head on his bed: then he wrote the dream and told the sum of the matters.

¹در سال اول سلطنت بِلشزر پادشاه بابل، شبی دانیال خوابی دید که شرح آن به اینقرار است:

²Daniel spoke and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the sky broke forth on the great sea.

²در خواب بحر وسیعی را دیدم که در اثر وزش باد از هر طرف متلاطم بود.

³Four great animals came up from the sea, diverse one from another.

³بعد چهار حیوان عجیب و بزرگ از بحر بیرون آمدند. هر کدام از آن ها با دیگری تفاوت داشت.

⁴The first was like a lion, and had eagle’s wings: I saw until its wings were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made to stand on two feet as a man; and a man’s heart was given to it.

⁴اولی شبیه شیر بود، اما بالهائی مثل بالهای عقاب داشت. در حالیکه به آن نگاه می کردم دیدم که بالهایش کنده شدند و دیگر نتوانست پرواز کند و مثل انسان بر دو پای خود ایستاد. به این حیوان فکر و عقل انسان داده شد.

⁵Behold, another animal, a second, like a bear; and it was raised up on one side, and three ribs were in its mouth between its teeth: and they said thus to it, Arise, devour much flesh.

⁵حیوان دومی شکل خرس را دارا بود و بر پاهای خود ایستاد و آمادۀ حمله شد. در بین دندانهایش سه قبرغه را دیدم و صدائی را شنیدم که به آن حیوان می گفت: «برخیز و تا می توانی گوشت بخور!»

⁶After this I saw, and behold, another, like a leopard, which had on its back four wings of a bird; the animal had also four heads; and dominion was given to it.

⁶حیوان سومی به شکل پلنگ بود. او بر پشت خود چهار بال بسان بالهای پرندگان داشت و دارای چهار سر بود. به این حیوان اختیار و قدرت بر مردم داده شد.

⁷After this I saw in the night visions, and, behold, a fourth animal, awesome and powerful, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth; it devoured and broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet: and it was diverse from all the animals that were before it; and it had ten horns.

⁷بعد در خواب حیوان چهارم را دیدم که خیلی ترسناک و قوی بود. این حیوان قربانیان خود را با دندانهای بزرگ و آهنین خود می درید و می خورد، سپس باقیمانده را در زیر پاهای خود لگدمال می کرد. این حیوان از سه حیوان دیگر فرق داشت و دارای ده شاخ بود.

⁸I considered the horns, and behold, there came up among them another horn, a little one, before which three of the first horns were plucked up by the roots: and behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of a man, and a mouth speaking great things.

⁸در حالیکه به شاخهایش نگاه می کردم، دیدم که ناگهان یک شاخ کوچک دیگر از بین شاخها پیدا شد و سه تا از شاخهای اولی از بیخ کنده شدند. این شاخ کوچک چشمانی مثل چشمان انسان داشت و از دهانش سخنان تکبرآمیز جاری بود.

⁹I saw until thrones were placed, and one who was ancient of days sat: his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames, and its wheels burning fire.

⁹آنگاه تختهائی را دیدم که برای داوری قرار داده شدند، و «موجود ازلی» بر تخت خود جلوس کرد. لباس او همچون برف، سفید و موهای سرش مانند پشمِ خالص بود. تخت او بر عرابه های آتشین قرار داشت و از آن شعله های آتش می جهیدند.

¹⁰A fiery stream issued and came forth from before him: thousands of thousands ministered to him, and ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him: the judgment was set, and the books were opened.

¹⁰دریائی از آتش از پیشروی آن جاری بود. هزاران نفر خدمت او را می کردند و میلیونها نفر در حضور او ایستاده بودند. آنگاه دوسیه ها برای داوری گشوده شدند.

¹¹I saw at that time because of the voice of the great words which the horn spoke; I saw even until the animal was slain, and its body destroyed, and it was given to be burned with fire.

¹¹بعد آن حیوان چهارم را دیدم که کشته شد و جسدش طعمۀ آتش گردید، زیرا شاخ کوچک این حیوان هنوز هم سخنان تکبرآمیز می گفت.

¹²As for the rest of the animals, their dominion was taken away: yet their lives were prolonged for a season and a time.

¹²قدرتِ سلطنتِ سه حیوان دیگر از آن ها گرفته شد، اما اجازه داشتند که به زندگی خود همچنان ادامه بدهند.

¹³I saw in the night visions, and behold, there came with the clouds of the sky one like a son of man, and he came even to the ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

¹³در خواب موجودی را دیدم که شبیه پسر انسان بود. او بر ابر های آسمان آمد و بحضور موجود ازلی رفت.

¹⁴There was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all the peoples, nations, and languages should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

¹⁴به او اختیار و جلال و قدرت سلطنت داده شد تا همۀ اقوام از هر زبان و نژاد خدمت او را بکنند. قدرت او ابدی و سلطنتش بی زوال است.

¹⁵As for me, Daniel, my spirit was grieved in the midst of my body, and the visions of my head troubled me.

¹⁵من، دانیال، از دیدن آن چیزها گیچ و ناراحت شدم.

¹⁶I came near to one of those who stood by, and asked him the truth concerning all this. So he told me, and made me know the interpretation of the things.

¹⁶پس پیش یکی از کسانی که در پهلوی تخت نشسته بود، رفتم و تفسیر آن رؤیا را از او پرسیدم. او هم این چنین شرح داد:

¹⁷These great animals, which are four, are four kings, who shall arise out of the earth.

¹⁷«آن چهار حیوان بزرگ، چهار پادشاه هستند که بر زمین ظهور می کنند،

¹⁸But the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever.

¹⁸اما سرانجام مقدسین خدای متعال قدرت سلطنت را تا ابد به دست می گیرند.»

¹⁹Then I desired to know the truth concerning the fourth animal, which was diverse from all of them, exceedingly terrible, whose teeth were of iron, and its nails of brass; which devoured, broke in pieces, and stamped the residue with its feet;

¹⁹بعد دربارۀ حیوان چهارم که ترسناک و دارای دندانهای آهنین و پنجه های برنجی بود و از سه حیوان دیگر فرق داشت و قربانیان خود را می درید و می خورد و زیر پا لگدمال می کرد، از او پرسیدم.

²⁰and concerning the ten horns that were on its head, and the other horn which came up, and before which three fell, even that horn that had eyes, and a mouth that spoke great things, whose look was more stout than its fellows.

²⁰همچنین دربارۀ آن ده شاخ و شاخ کوچکی که بعداً ظاهر شد و سه تا از آن ده شاخ که از بیخ کنده شدند، سوال کردم. آن شاخ کوچک همان شاخی بود که چشم داشت و از دهانش سخنان تکبرآمیز جاری و از شاخهای دیگر هولناکتر بود.

²¹I saw, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;

²¹در حالیکه تماشا می کردم دیدم که آن شاخ با مقدسین خدا جنگید و بر آن ها پیروز شد.

²²until the ancient of days came, and judgment was given to the saints of the Most High, and the time came that the saints possessed the kingdom.

²²آنگاه «موجود ازلی» آمد و به داوری شروع کرده از مقدسین خدای متعال حمایت نمود و زمانی رسید که زمام سلطنت را به آن ها سپرد.

²³Thus he said, The fourth animal shall be a fourth kingdom on earth, which shall be diverse from all the kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

²³او به من این چنین شرح داد: «حیوان چهارم سلطنت چهارم بر زمین است. این سلطنت از سلطنت های دیگر متفاوت می باشد و تمام دنیا را پاره پاره نموده در زیر پاهای خود لگدمال می کند.

²⁴As for the ten horns, out of this kingdom shall ten kings arise: and another shall arise after them; and he shall be diverse from the former, and he shall put down three kings.

²⁴ده شاخ او ده پادشاه هستند که از همین سلطنت ظهور می کنند. بعد پادشاه دیگری به سلطنت می رسد که با سه پادشاه دیگر فرق می داشته باشد و آن ها را مغلوب می کند.

²⁵He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High; and he shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and half a time.

²⁵او علیه خدای متعال سخن می گوید، بر مقدسین او ظلم می کند و می کوشد که تمام احکام و جشنهای مذهبی را تغییر بدهد. مقدسین خدا مدت سه و نیم سال تحت تسلط او می باشند.

²⁶But the judgment shall be set, and they shall take away his dominion, to consume and to destroy it to the end.

²⁶بعد زمان داوری آغاز می یابد و سلطنت این پادشاه از او گرفته می شود و بکلی از بین می رود.

²⁷The kingdom and the dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole sky, shall be given to the people of the saints of the Most High: his kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

²⁷آنگاه قدرت و بزرگی تمام سلطنت ها به مقدسین خدای متعال سپرده می شود. سلطنت خدای متعال ابدی بوده تمام پادشاهان جهان او را پرستش و از او اطاعت می کنند.»این بود خوابی که دیدم و وقتی بیدار شدم، بسیار پریشان بودم. از ترس رنگ از چهره ام پریده بود، ولی از خوابم به کسی چیزی نگفتم.

²⁸Here is the end of the matter. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts much troubled me, and my face was changed in me: but I kept the matter in my heart.

²⁸این بود خوابی که دیدم و وقتی بیدار شدم، بسیار پریشان بودم. از ترس رنگ از چهره ام پریده بود، ولی از خوابم به کسی چیزی نگفتم.
