¹In the third year of the reign of king Belshazzar a vision appeared to me, even to me, Daniel, after that which appeared to me at the first.

¹در سال سوم سلطنت بِلشزر یک خواب دیگر دیدم.

²I saw in the vision; now it was so, that when I saw, I was in the citadel of Susa, which is in the province of Elam; and I saw in the vision, and I was by the river Ulai.

²در خواب دیدم که در شهر شوش، پایتخت ایالت عیلام، در کنار دریای اولای ایستاده بودم.

³Then I lifted up my eyes, and saw, and behold, there stood before the river a ram which had two horns: and the two horns were high; but one was higher than the other, and the higher came up last.

³وقتی به اطراف نگاه می کردم، قوچی را دیدم که دو شاخ بلند داشت و در کنار دریا ایستاده بود. بعد دیدم که یکی از این دو شاخ بلندتر شد.

⁴I saw the ram pushing westward, and northward, and southward; and no animals could stand before him, neither was there any who could deliver out of his hand; but he did according to his will, and magnified himself.

⁴این قوچ بطرف مغرب، شمال و جنوب شاخ می زد و هیچ جانوری نمی توانست با او مقابله کند یا از دستش نجات یابد. هر چه دلش می خواست، می کرد و قویتر می شد.

⁵As I was considering, behold, a male goat came from the west over the surface of the whole earth, and didn’t touch the ground: and the goat had a notable horn between his eyes.

⁵در حالیکه دربارۀ این وقایع فکر می کردم، ناگهان یک بز نر از غرب پیدا شد. او آنقدر بسرعت می دوید که پاهایش به زمین تماس نمی کرد. این بز که یک شاخ در وسط چشمان خود داشت،

⁶He came to the ram that had the two horns, which I saw standing before the river, and ran on him in the fury of his power.

⁶با تمام قدرت بسوی آن قوچ دو شاخ دوید.

⁷I saw him come close to the ram, and he was moved with anger against him, and struck the ram, and broke his two horns; and there was no power in the ram to stand before him; but he cast him down to the ground, and trampled on him; and there was none who could deliver the ram out of his hand.

⁷بعد با خشم و غضب بر قوچ حمله برد و هر دو شاخش را شکست و او را که توانِ مقاومت را نداشت، به زمین انداخته پایمالش کرد و کسی نبود که قوچ را از دست او نجات بدهد.

⁸The male goat magnified himself exceedingly: and when he was strong, the great horn was broken; and instead of it there came up four notable horns toward the four winds of the sky.

⁸آن بز نر بی نهایت بزرگ شد، اما در حالیکه به اوج قدرت خود رسیده بود، ناگهان شاخش شکست و بجای آن چهار شاخ بلند در چهار سمت مختلف پدید شدند.

⁹Out of one of them came forth a little horn, which grew exceeding great, toward the south, and toward the east, and toward the glorious land .

⁹از یکی از این شاخها، شاخ کوچکی برآمد و رو به جنوب و مشرق و بسوی سرزمین زیبا نمو کرد

¹⁰It grew great, even to the army of the sky; and some of the army and of the stars it cast down to the ground, and trampled on them.

¹⁰و آنقدر نیرومند شد که علیه لشکر آسمانی برخاست و بعضی از ستارگان را بر زمین ریخت و پایمال کرد.

¹¹Yes, it magnified itself, even to the prince of the army; and it took away from him the continual burnt offering, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.

¹¹او حتی علیه فرمانروای لشکر آسمانی قیام کرده و از قربانی هائی که روزانه برای او تقدیم می شدند، جلوگیری نموده عبادتگاه مقدس او را ویران کرد.

¹²The army was given over to it together with the continual burnt offering through disobedience; and it cast down truth to the ground, and it did its pleasure and prospered.

¹²بخاطر گناه قوم به او اجازه داده شد که قوی گردد و مانع تقدیم قربانی های روزانه شود. آن شاخ هر چه دلش خواست، انجام داد و حقیقت عدالت را پایمال کرد.

¹³Then I heard a holy one speaking; and another holy one said to that certain one who spoke, How long shall be the vision concerning the continual burnt offering, and the disobedience that makes desolate, to give both the sanctuary and the army to be trodden under foot?

¹³بعد شنیدم که دو فرشتۀ مقدس با هم گفتگو می کردند. یکی از دیگری پرسید: «تا بکی قربانی های روزانه تقدیم نخواهند شد؟ تا بکی گناه و شرارت جریان خواهد داشت؟ تا چه وقت لشکر آسمانی و عبادتگاه پایمال خواهد شد؟»

¹⁴He said to me, To two thousand and three hundred evenings and mornings; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed.

¹⁴شنیدم که فرشتۀ دیگر در جواب گفت: «یکهزار و یکصد و پنجاه روز دوام می کند و در این مدت قربانی های روزانۀ صبح و شام تقدیم نخواهند شد. بعد عبادتگاه دوباره آباد می شود.»

¹⁵It happened, when I, even I Daniel, had seen the vision, that I sought to understand it; and behold, there stood before me as the appearance of a man.

¹⁵وقتی من، دانیال، کوشش می کردم که معنی خوابم را بدانم، ناگهان موجودی شبیه انسان در برابر من ایستاد

¹⁶I heard a man’s voice between the banks of the Ulai, which called, and said, Gabriel, make this man to understand the vision.

¹⁶آوازی را از آن طرف دریای اولای شنیدم که می گفت: «ای جبرائیل، خواب دانیال را برایش تعبیر کن.»

¹⁷So he came near where I stood; and when he came, I was frightened, and fell on my face: but he said to me, Understand, son of man; for the vision belongs to the time of the end.

¹⁷پس جبرائیل پیش من آمد و من ترسیدم و رو به زمین افتادم. او به من گفت: «ای انسان فانی، آن خوابی را که دیدی مربوط به زمان آخر است.»

¹⁸Now as he was speaking with me, I fell into a deep sleep with my face toward the ground; but he touched me, and set me upright.

¹⁸در حالیکه او حرف می زد من بیهوش بر زمین افتادم. اما او مرا گرفت و از زمین بلند کرد

¹⁹He said, Behold, I will make you know what shall be in the latter time of the indignation; for it belongs to the appointed time of the end.

¹⁹و گفت: «من آمده ام تا به تو نشان بدهم که نتیجۀ خشم خداوند چه خواهد بود. خوابی را که دیدی دربارۀ آخر دنیا است.

²⁰The ram which you saw, that had the two horns, they are the kings of Media and Persia.

²⁰آن قوچ دو شاخ را که در خواب دیدی، سلطنت ماد و فارس است.

²¹The rough male goat is the king of Greece: and the great horn that is between his eyes is the first king.

²¹بز نر پادشاه یونان است و شاخ بلندی که در وسط چشمانش بود، اولین پادشاه آن کشور می باشد.

²²As for that which was broken, in the place where four stood up, four kingdoms shall stand up out of the nation, but not with his power.

²²شاخی را که دیدی شکست و بجای آن چهار شاخ دیگر پدید شدند، به این معنی است که آن کشور به چهار حصه تقسیم می شود و هر قسمت آن از خود پادشاهی خواهد داشت. اما هیچکدام به اندازۀ پادشاه اول بزرگ نخواهد بود.

²³In the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors have come to the full, a king of fierce face, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.

²³در پایان سلطنت آن ها وقتی شرارت آن ها از حد بگذرد، پادشاه دیگری به قدرت می رسد که بسیار ظالم و مکار می باشد.

²⁴His power shall be mighty, but not by his own power; and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper and do his pleasure; and he shall destroy the mighty ones and the holy people.

²⁴او دارای قدرت زیادی می شود اما نه با نیروی خود. او عامل تباهی و خرابی خواهد بود. هر طوری که دلش بخواهد عمل می کند و دست به کشتار صاحبان قدرت و قوم مقدس خدا می زند.

²⁵Through his policy he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and in their security shall he destroy many: he shall also stand up against the prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

²⁵با مهارت، نقشه های فریبندۀ خود را عملی می کند و با یک شبخون عدۀ زیادی را از بین می برد. آنقدر مغرور می شود که علیه شاهِ شاهان قیام می کند، اما سرانجام نابود می شود، ولی نه به دست انسان.

²⁶The vision of the evenings and mornings which has been told is true: but seal up the vision; for it belongs to many days to come.

²⁶خوابی را هم که دربارۀ قربانی های روزانۀ صبح و شام دیدی به حقیقت می رسد، اما تو این خواب را مخفی نگهدار، زیرا در آیندۀ خیلی دور عملی می شود.»آنگاه برای چند روز بیمار و ضعیف بودم. بعد برخاستم و قرار عادت به کارهائی که پادشاه به من سپرده بود، مصروف شدم. اما خوابی که دیده بودم، فکر مرا مشغول کرده بود، زیرا دانستن آن برای من مشکل بود.

²⁷I, Daniel, fainted, and was sick certain days; then I rose up, and did the king’s business: and I wondered at the vision, but none understood it.

²⁷آنگاه برای چند روز بیمار و ضعیف بودم. بعد برخاستم و قرار عادت به کارهائی که پادشاه به من سپرده بود، مصروف شدم. اما خوابی که دیده بودم، فکر مرا مشغول کرده بود، زیرا دانستن آن برای من مشکل بود.
