¹When Yahweh your God shall cut off the nations, whose land Yahweh your God gives you, and you succeed them, and dwell in their cities, and in their houses;

¹وقتی خداوند، خدای تان اقوامی را که سرزمین شان را به شما می دهد از بین ببرد و شما در شهرها و خانه های شان ساکن شوید،

²you shall set apart three cities for you in the midst of your land, which Yahweh your God gives you to possess it.

²آن سرزمین را به سه منطقه تقسیم کنید. در هر یک از این سه منطقه یک شهر را بعنوان شهر پناهگاه تعیین نمائید تا اگر کسی مرتکب قتل شود بتواند در آنجا فرار کند و در امان باشد.

³You shall prepare you the way, and divide the borders of your land, which Yahweh your God causes you to inherit, into three parts, that every manslayer may flee there.

³هرگاه کسی تصادفاً شخصی را که با او دشمنی نداشته باشد بکشد در یکی از آن سه شهر فرار کرده پناه ببرد.

⁴This is the case of the manslayer, that shall flee there and live: whoever kills his neighbor unawares, and didn’t hate him in time past;

⁴مثلاً اگر شخصی با همسایۀ خود برای آوردن هیزم به جنگل برود و در وقت شکستن چوب سر تبر از دسته اش جدا شده باعث قتل همسایه اش شود، قاتل در یکی از این شهرها فرار کرده پناه ببرد.

⁵as when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to chop wood, and his hand fetches a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle, and lights on his neighbor, so that he dies; he shall flee to one of these cities and live:

⁵هرگاه تنها یک شهر و مسافۀ آن زیاد باشد، ممکن است مدعی خون مقتول به او برسد و او را بکشد،

⁶lest the avenger of blood pursue the manslayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and strike him mortally; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he didn’t hate him in time past.

⁶از این جهت به شما هدایت می دهم که سه شهر را در سه منطقه تعیین کنید.

⁷Therefore I command you, saying, You shall set apart three cities for yourselves.

⁷اگر خداوند، خدای شما قرار وعده ای که به اجداد تان داده است حدود شما را وسعت بخشد و تمام آن سرزمین را طبق وعده به شما بدهد،

⁸If Yahweh your God enlarges your border, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers;

⁸پس شما از همۀ این احکامی که امروز به شما ابلاغ می کنم از دل و جان اطاعت نمائید، خداوند، خدای تان را دوست بدارید و در راه او قدم بردارید و سه شهرِ پناهگاهِ دیگر هم تعیین کنید،

⁹if you keep all this commandment to do it, which I command you this day, to love Yahweh your God, and to walk ever in his ways; then you shall add three cities more for yourselves, besides these three:

⁹تا در این سرزمینی که خداوند، خدای تان به شما می دهد خون بیگناهی ریخته نشود و خون کسی به گردن شما نباشد.

¹⁰that innocent blood not be shed in the midst of your land, which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance, and so blood be on you.

¹⁰اما اگر شخصی با کسی دشمنی داشته باشد و او را بکشد و بعد به یکی از آن شهرها فرار کند،

¹¹But if any man hates his neighbor, and lies in wait for him, and rises up against him, and strikes him mortally so that he dies, and he flees into one of these cities;

¹¹در آن صورت ریش سفیدان شهر باید بدنبال قاتل بفرستند تا او را از آنجا بیاورند و به دست مدعی خون مقتول تسلیم کنند که او را بکشد.

¹²then the elders of his city shall send and bring him there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.

¹²بر او رحم نکنید و باید اسرائیل را از خون بیگناه پاک سازید تا در همه کارها موفق باشید.

¹³Your eye shall not pity him, but you shall put away the innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with you.

¹³وقتی به سرزمینی که خداوند، خدای تان به شما می دهد وارد شدید، نباید حد ارثی زمین همسایۀ تان را که از قدیم تعیین شده است، تغییر بدهید.

¹⁴You shall not remove your neighbor’s landmark, which they of old time have set, in your inheritance which you shall inherit, in the land that Yahweh your God gives you to possess it.

¹⁴شهادت یک نفر کافی نیست که کسی را به جرمی محکوم کنید. حد اقل باید دو یا سه نفر شاهد موجود باشند.

¹⁵One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sins: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall a matter be established.

¹⁵اگر کسی بدروغ شهادت بدهد و ادعا کند که شخصی را حین ارتکاب جرمی دیده است،

¹⁶If an unrighteous witness rise up against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing,

¹⁶هردو جانب باید در عبادتگاه پیش کاهنان و قضات موظف برده شوند.

¹⁷then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before Yahweh, before the priests and the judges who shall be in those days;

¹⁷قضات باید در مورد این قضیه بدقت تحقیق کنند و اگر ثابت شد که شاهد دروغ می گوید،

¹⁸and the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness is a false witness, and has testified falsely against his brother;

¹⁸او باید همان جزا را ببیند که می خواست آن شخص دیگر به آن محکوم شود. به این ترتیب شرارت را از بین خود پاک می کنید.

¹⁹then you shall do to him as he had thought to do to his brother: so you shall put away the evil from the midst of you.

¹⁹آنگاه سایر مردم وقتی از این قضیه خبر شوند، می ترسند و کسی جرأت نمی کند که مرتکب چنین جنایتی شود.در مورد او رحم نکنید و حکم تان این باشد: جان در مقابل جان، چشم در مقابل چشم، دندان در مقابل دندان، دست در مقابل دست و پا در مقابل پا.

²⁰Those who remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil in the midst of you.

²⁰در مورد او رحم نکنید و حکم تان این باشد: جان در مقابل جان، چشم در مقابل چشم، دندان در مقابل دندان، دست در مقابل دست و پا در مقابل پا.

²¹Your eyes shall not pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
