¹Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen.

¹ایمان اطمینانی است به چیزهایی که به آن امیدواریم و اعتقادی است به چیزهایی که نمی بینیم.

²For by this, the elders obtained testimony.

²از راه ایمان بود که مردم در ایام گذشته پیش خدا قبول شدند.

³By faith, we understand that the universe has been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which are visible.

³از راه ایمان، ما می فهمیم که کائنات چگونه با کلام خدا خلقت یافت، به طوری که آنچه دیده می شود از چیزهای نادیدنی به وجود آمد.

⁴By faith, Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he had testimony given to him that he was righteous, God testifying with respect to his gifts; and through it he, being dead, still speaks.

⁴و ایمان باعث شد که قربانی هابیل بیشتر از قربانی قائن منظور خدا گردد و او با آن ایمان در حضور خدا عادل شمرده شد، زیرا خدا هدایای او را قبول فرمود و اگرچه او مرده است، ولی هنوز به وسیلۀ ایمان خود با ما سخن می گوید.

⁵By faith, Enoch was taken away, so that he wouldn’t see death, and he was not found, because God translated him. For he has had testimony given to him that before his translation he had been well pleasing to God.

⁵از راه ایمان «خنوخ» بدون چشیدن طعم مرگ به زندگی دیگر انتقال یافت. اثری از او یافت نشد، زیرا خدا او را بُرده بود چون پیش از آنکه به زندگی دیگر انتقال یابد، کلام خدا دربارۀ او شهادت داده گفته بود که او خدا را خشنود ساخته است

⁶Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.

⁶و بدون ایمان محال است که انسان خدا را خشنود سازد، زیرا هر کس به سوی خدا می آید، باید ایمان داشته باشد که او هست و به جویندگان خود اجر می دهد.

⁷By faith, Noah, being warned about things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, or, reverence prepared a ship for the saving of his house, through which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is according to faith.

⁷وقتی نوح اخطارهای خدا را دربارۀ امور آینده که او هنوز نتوانسته بود ببیند شنید، از روی ایمان از خدا اطاعت کرد و برای نجات خانوادۀ خویش کشتی ای ساخت. به این وسیله سر دنیا حکم داد و عدالت را که از راه ایمان حاصل می شود به دست آورد.

⁸By faith, Abraham, when he was called, obeyed to go out to the place which he was to receive for an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he went.

⁸ایمان باعث شد که وقتی ابراهیم امر خدا را در مورد رفتن به سرزمینی که قرار بود بعدها مالک آن بشود شنید، اطاعت کرد و بدون آنکه بداند کجا می رود، حرکت کرد.

⁹By faith, he lived as an alien in the land of promise, as in a land not his own, dwelling in tents, with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise.

⁹او از روی ایمان مثل یک بیگانه در سرزمینی که خدا به او وعده داده بود، سرگردان شد و با اسحاق و یعقوب که در آن وعده با او شریک بودند، در خیمه زندگی کرد.

¹⁰For he looked for the city which has the foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

¹⁰ابراهیم چنین کرد، چون در انتظار شهری بود با بنیاد استوار که مهندس و معمارش خداست.

¹¹By faith, even Sarah herself received power to conceive, and she bore a child when she was past age, since she counted him faithful who had promised.

¹¹از روی ایمان، ساره با وجود اینکه از سن باروری گذشته بود، قدرت تولید نسل یافت، زیرا مطمئن بود که خدا به قول خود وفا می کند

¹²Therefore as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as innumerable as the sand which is by the sea shore, were fathered by one man, and him as good as dead.

¹²و به این سبب از یک مرد، آن هم مردی تقریباً مرده، نسل های بی شماری مثل ستارگان آسمان و یا ریگ های ساحل بحر پدید آمد.

¹³These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen TR adds “and being convinced of” them and embraced them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

¹³تمامی این اشخاص در ایمان مُردند، بدون اینکه صاحب برکات موعود شوند، اما انجام وعده ها را از دور دیده و با خوشی در انتظار آن ها بودند و به این حقیقت شهادت دادند که در این دنیا، مسافر و بیگانه اند.

¹⁴For those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a country of their own.

¹⁴آن ها که خود را بی وطن و بیگانه می دانند واضعاً نشان می دهند که هنوز به دنبال وطنی برای خود می گردند.

¹⁵If indeed they had been thinking of that country from which they went out, they would have had enough time to return.

¹⁵اگر آن ها هنوز برای زمینی که ترک کرده بودند دلتنگ می بودند، فرصت کافی داشتند که به آنجا مراجعت کنند.

¹⁶But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.

¹⁶اما در عوض می بینیم که آن ها علاقمند مملکتی بهتر ـ یعنی مملکتی آسمانی ـ هستند. به این جهت خدا عار ندارد که خدای آنها خوانده شود، زیرا شهری برای آنها آماده کرده است.

¹⁷By faith, Abraham, being tested, offered up Isaac. Yes, he who had gladly received the promises was offering up his one and only son;

¹⁷از روی ایمان، ابراهیم در وقت آزمایش اسحاق را به عنوان قربانی به خدا تقدیم نمود ـ بلی، این مرد که وعده های خدا را پذیرفته بود، حاضر شد یگانه پسر خود را به خدا تقدیم نماید،

¹⁸even he to whom it was said, “In Isaac will your seed be called”; Genesis 21:12

¹⁸با اینکه خدا به او گفته بود نسل او از اسحاق خواهد بود.

¹⁹concluding that God is able to raise up even from the dead. Figuratively speaking, he also did receive him back from the dead.

¹⁹ابراهیم خاطر جمع بود که خدا قادر است اسحاق را حتی پس از مرگ زنده گرداند. به عبارت دیگر او را به صورت نمونه ای از مردگان باز یافت.

²⁰By faith, Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau, even concerning things to come.

²⁰ایمان باعث شد که اسحاق یعقوب و عیسو را برکت دهد و از امور آینده سخن گوید.

²¹By faith, Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph, and worshiped, leaning on the top of his staff.

²¹ایمان باعث شد که یعقوب وقتی مشرف به مرگ بود، هر دو پسر یوسف را برکت دهد و در حالی که بر عصای خود تکیه زده بود، خدا را عبادت نماید.

²²By faith, Joseph, when his end was near, made mention of the departure of the children of Israel; and gave instructions concerning his bones.

²²از راه ایمان، یوسف در پایان عمر خویش دربارۀ رفتن اسرائیل از مصر سخن گفت و به آنها امر کرد با استخوان های او چه کنند.

²³By faith, Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that he was a beautiful child, and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.

²³وقتی موسی متولد شد و والدینش دیدند که او کودک زیبائی بود، آن ها از روی ایمان او را مدت سه ماه در منزل پنهان کردند و از نافرمانی از امر پادشاه نترسیدند.

²⁴By faith, Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter,

²⁴ایمان باعث شد که موسی وقتی به سن بلوغ رسید، از مقام و لقب «پسر دختر فرعون» بودن صرف نظر نموده آن را رد کند

²⁵choosing rather to share ill treatment with God’s people, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a time;

²⁵و تحمل سختی ها با قوم برگزیدۀ خدا را به لذت های زودگذر گناه ترجیع دهد.

²⁶accounting the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he looked to the reward.

²⁶رسوایی و خواری به خاطر مسیح را ثروتی بزرگتر از گنج های مصر دانست، زیرا او به اجر عالم آینده چشم دوخته بود.

²⁷By faith, he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

²⁷ایمان باعث شد که موسی مصر را ترک کند و از خشم شاه نترسد، زیرا او مانند کسی که خدای نادیده را همیشه در پیش چشمان خود می بیند، ثابت قدم بود.

²⁸By faith, he kept the Passover, and the sprinkling of the blood, that the destroyer of the firstborn should not touch them.

²⁸به وسیلۀ ایمان، موسی عید فِصَح را برقرار نمود و خون را پاشید تا فرشتۀ مرگ، اولباری های اسرائیل را نکشد.

²⁹By faith, they passed through the Red Sea as on dry land. When the Egyptians tried to do so, they were swallowed up.

²⁹از راه ایمان بود که قوم اسرائیل از بحیرۀ احمر عبور کرد، چنانکه گویی از زمین خشک می گذرد، اما وقتی مصریان کوشش کردند از آن بگذرند، غرق شدند.

³⁰By faith, the walls of Jericho fell down, after they had been encircled for seven days.

³⁰ایمان باعث شد که دیوارهای شهر اریحا پس از اینکه قوم اسرائیل هفت روز دور آن گشتند، فرو ریخت.

³¹By faith, Rahab the prostitute, didn’t perish with those who were disobedient, having received the spies in peace.

³¹ایمان باعث شد که راحابِ فاحشه بر خلاف مردم سرکشی که کشته شدند نجات یابد، زیرا او از جاسوسان با صلح و سلامتی استقبال نمود.

³²What more shall I say? For the time would fail me if I told of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets;

³²دیگر چه بگویم؟ وقت کافی ندارم که دربارۀ جِدعون، باراق، شَمشون، یِفتاح، داود، و سموئیل و پیامبران سخن گویم.

³³who, through faith subdued kingdoms, worked out righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, Daniel 6:22-23

³³آن ها از راه ایمان، سلطنت ها را برانداختند و عدالت برقرار ساختند و آنچه را که خدا به آن ها وعده داده بود به دست آورند. آن ها دهان شیران را بستند.

³⁴quenched the power of fire, Daniel 3:1-30 escaped the edge of the sword, 1 Kings 19:1-3; 2 Kings 6:31-7:20 from weakness were made strong, grew mighty in war, and caused foreign armies to flee.

³⁴آتش سوزان را خاموش کردند. از دَمِ شمشیر رهایی یافتند. در عین ضعف و ناتوانی قدرت یافتند. در جنگ شجاع گشتند و لشکریان دشمن را تار و مار نمودند.

³⁵Women received their dead by resurrection. 1 Kings 17:17-23; 2 Kings 4:32-37 Others were tortured, not accepting their deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection.

³⁵زنان، مردگان خود را زنده یافتند. دیگران تا سرحد مرگ شکنجه دیدند و آزادی را نپذیرفتند تا آخر به زندگی بهتر نایل شوند.

³⁶Others were tried by mocking and scourging, yes, moreover by bonds and imprisonment.

³⁶دیگران با سختی های بسیار مانند استهزاها، تازیانه ها و حتی زنجیر و حبس آزموده شدند.

³⁷They were stoned. 2 Chronicles 24:20-21 They were sawn apart. They were tempted. They were slain with the sword. Jeremiah 26:20-23; 1 Kings 19:10 They went around in sheep skins and in goat skins; being destitute, afflicted, ill-treated

³⁷سنگسار گردیدند و با اره دو نیم شدند و با شمشیر به قتل رسیدند. آن ها ملبس با پوست گوسفند و بز، آواره و سرگردان بودند و متحمل فقر و تنگدستی و ظلم و جور می شدند.

³⁸(of whom the world was not worthy), wandering in deserts, mountains, caves, and the holes of the earth.

³⁸دنیا لیاقت آن ها را نداشت. آن ها در بیابانها و کوهستان ها آواره بودند و در غارها و سوراخ های زمین پنهان می شدند.

³⁹These all, having had testimony given to them through their faith, didn’t receive the promise,

³⁹با اینکه آن ها همه به خاطر ایمان شان مشهور شدند ولی وعده های خدا برای هیچ یک از آن ها کاملاً انجام نیافته بود،زیرا خدا برای ما نقشۀ بهتری داشت و آن اینکه آن ها بدون ما به کمال نرسند.

⁴⁰God having provided some better thing concerning us, so that apart from us they should not be made perfect.

⁴⁰زیرا خدا برای ما نقشۀ بهتری داشت و آن اینکه آن ها بدون ما به کمال نرسند.
