¹Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.

¹یک نفر از پیروان فرقۀ فریسی به نام نیقودیموس که از بزرگان قوم یهود بود،

²The same came to him by night, and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him.”

²یک شب نزد عیسی آمد و به او گفت: «ای استاد، ما می دانیم تو معلمی هستی که از طرف خدا آمده ای زیرا هیچکس نمی تواند معجزاتی را که تو می کنی انجام دهد، مگر آنکه خدا با او باشد.»

³Jesus answered him, “Most certainly, I tell you, unless one is born anew, The word translated “anew” here and in John 3:7 (anothen) also means “again” and “from above”. he can’t see the Kingdom of God.”

³عیسی جواب داد: «بیقین بدان تا شخص از نو تولد نیابد نمی تواند پادشاهی خدا را ببیند.»

⁴Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?”

⁴نیقودیموس گفت: «چطور ممکن است شخص سالخورده ای از نو متولد شود؟ آیا می تواند باز به رَحِم مادر خود برگردد و دوباره تولد یابد؟»

⁵Jesus answered, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and spirit, he can’t enter into the Kingdom of God!

⁵عیسی جواب داد «بیقین بدان که هیچ کس نمی تواند داخل پادشاهی خدا شود مگر آنکه از آب و روح تولد یابد.

⁶ That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

⁶آنچه از جسم تولد بیابد، جسم است و آنچه از روح متولد گردد روح است.

⁷ Don’t marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born anew.’

⁷تعجب نکن که به تو می گویم همه باید دوباره متولد شوند.

⁸ The wind The same Greek word (pneuma) means wind, breath, and spirit. blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

⁸باد هرجا که بخواهد می وزد. صدای آن را می شنوی اما نمی دانی از کجا می آید یا به کجا می رود. حالت کسی هم که از روح خدا متولد می شود همینطور است.»

⁹Nicodemus answered him, “How can these things be?”

⁹نیقودیموس در جواب گفت: «این چطورممکن است؟»

¹⁰Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and don’t understand these things?

¹⁰عیسی گفت: «آیا تو که یک معلم بزرگ اسرائیل هستی، این چیزها را نمی دانی؟

¹¹ Most certainly I tell you, we speak that which we know, and testify of that which we have seen, and you don’t receive our witness.

¹¹بیقین بدان که ما از آنچه می دانیم سخن می گوییم و به آنچه دیده ایم شهادت می دهیم، ولی شما شهادت ما را قبول نمی کنید.

¹² If I told you earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

¹²وقتی دربارۀ امور زمینی سخن می گویم و آن را باور نمی کنید، اگر دربارۀ امور آسمانی سخن بگویم چگونه باور خواهید کرد؟

¹³ No one has ascended into heaven, but he who descended out of heaven, the Son of Man, who is in heaven.

¹³کسی هرگز به آسمان بالا نرفت، مگر آنکس که از آسمان پایین آمد، یعنی پسر انسان که جایش در آسمان است.

¹⁴ As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,

¹⁴همانطوری که موسی در بیابان مار برنجی را بر بالای چوبی قرار داد، پسر انسان هم باید بلند کرده شود

¹⁵ that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

¹⁵تا هر کس به او ایمان بیآورد صاحب زندگی ابدی گردد.

¹⁶ For God so loved the world, that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

¹⁶زیرا خدا به دنیا آنقدر محبت داشت که پسر یگانۀ خود را داد تا هر که به او ایمان بیاورد هلاک نگردد، بلکه صاحب زندگی ابدی شود.

¹⁷ For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.

¹⁷زیرا خدا پسر خود را به دنیا نفرستاد که از دنیا بازخواست کند بلکه تا آن را نجات بخشد.

¹⁸ He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the one and only Son of God.

¹⁸هر کس به او ایمان بیآورد از او بازخواست نمی شود اما کسی که به او ایمان نیاورد زیر حکم باقی می ماند، زیرا به اسم پسر یگانۀ خدا ایمان نیاورده است.

¹⁹ This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil.

¹⁹حکم بازخواست این است که نور به دنیا آمد ولی مردم به علت اعمال شرارت آمیز خود تاریکی را از نور بهتر دانستند،

²⁰ For everyone who does evil hates the light, and doesn’t come to the light, lest his works would be exposed.

²⁰زیرا کسی که مرتکب کارهای بد می شود از نور نفرت دارد و از آن دوری می جوید مبادا اعمالش مورد ملالت واقع شود.

²¹ But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God.”

²¹اما شخص نیکوکار به سوی نور می آید تا روشن شود که اعمالش در خداترسی انجام شده است.»

²²After these things, Jesus came with his disciples into the land of Judea. He stayed there with them, and baptized.

²²بعد از آن عیسی با شاگردان خود به سرزمین یهودیه رفت و در آنجا مدتی با آن ها مانده مردم را تعمید می داد،

²³John also was baptizing in Enon near Salim, because there was much water there. They came, and were baptized.

²³یحیی نیز در عینون، نزدیک سالیم، به تعمید دادن مردم مشغول بود. درآن ناحیه آب فراوان بود و مردم برای گرفتن تعمید می آمدند،

²⁴For John was not yet thrown into prison.

²⁴زیرا یحیی هنوز به زندان نیفتاده بود.

²⁵There arose therefore a questioning on the part of John’s disciples with some Jews about purification.

²⁵بین شاگردان یحیی و یک نفر یهودی مباحثه ای در مورد مسئلۀ طهارت پیدا شد.

²⁶They came to John, and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, behold, the same baptizes, and everyone is coming to him.”

²⁶پس آن ها نزد یحیی آمده به او گفتند: «ای استاد، آن کسی که در آن طرف اُردن با تو بود که تو دربارۀ او شهادت دادی، در اینجا به تعمید کردن مردم مشغول است و همه پیش او می روند.»

²⁷John answered, “A man can receive nothing, unless it has been given him from heaven.

²⁷یحیی در جواب گفت: «انسان نمی تواند چیزی جز آنچه خدا به او می بخشد به دست آورد.

²⁸You yourselves testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before him.’

²⁸شما خود شاهد هستید که من گفتم مسیح نیستم، بلکه پیشاپیش او فرستاده شده ام.

²⁹He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. This, my joy, therefore is made full.

²⁹عروس به داماد تعلق دارد. دوست داماد، که در کناری ایستاده و صدای داماد را می شنود، لذت می برد. خوشی من هم همینطور کامل شده است.

³⁰He must increase, but I must decrease.

³⁰او باید ترقی کند، و من باید از نظر بیفتم.»

³¹He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth, and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.

³¹کسی که از بالا می آید مافوق همه است و کسی که متعلق به این دنیای خاکی باشد آدمی است زمینی و دربارۀ امور دنیوی سخن می گوید. آن کسی که از آسمان می آید از همه بالا تر است

³²What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness.

³²و به آنچه دیده و شنیده است شهادت می دهد اما هیچ کس شهادت او را قبول نمی کند.

³³He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true.

³³هرکه شهادت او را بپذیرد صداقت و راستی خدا را تصدیق کرده است.

³⁴For he whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for God gives the Spirit without measure.

³⁴کسی که از طرف خدا فرستاده شده است کلام خدا را بیان می کند زیرا خدا روح خود را بی حد و اندازه به او عطا می فرماید.

³⁵The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into his hand.

³⁵پدر به پسر محبت دارد و همه چیز را به او سپرده است.آن کسی که به پسر ایمان بیاورد زندگی ابدی دارد اما کسی که از پسر اطاعت نکند زندگی را نخواهد دید، بلکه همیشه مورد غضب خدا می باشد.

³⁶One who believes in the Son has eternal life, but one who disobeys The same word can be translated “disobeys” or “disbelieves” in this context. the Son won’t see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

³⁶آن کسی که به پسر ایمان بیاورد زندگی ابدی دارد اما کسی که از پسر اطاعت نکند زندگی را نخواهد دید، بلکه همیشه مورد غضب خدا می باشد.
