¹After these things, there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.

¹بعد از آن عیسی برای یکی از عیدهای یهود به اورشلیم رفت.

²Now in Jerusalem by the sheep gate, there is a pool, which is called in Hebrew, “Bethesda,” having five porches.

²در اورشلیم نزدیک دروازه ای معروف به دروازۀ گوسفند حوضی با پنج رواق وجود دارد، که به زبان عبرانی آن را بیتسده می گویند.

³In these lay a great multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, or paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water;

³در آن جا عدۀ زیادی از بیمارن، نابینایان، لنگان و شلان دراز کشیده [و منتظر حرکت آب بودند

⁴for an angel went down at certain times into the pool, and stirred up the water. Whoever stepped in first after the stirring of the water was made whole of whatever disease he had.

⁴زیرا هر چند وقت یکبار فرشتۀ خداوند به حوض داخل می شد و آب را به حرکت در می آورد و اولین بیماری که بعد از حرکت آب به حوض داخل می گردید از هر مرضی که داشت شفا می یافت.]

⁵A certain man was there, who had been sick for thirty-eight years.

⁵در میان آن ها مردی دیده می شد که سی و هشت سال به مرضی مبتلا بود.

⁶When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had been sick for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to be made well?”

⁶وقتی عیسی او را در آنجا خوابیده دید و دانست که مدت زیادی است که بیمار می باشد، از او پرسید: «آیا می خواهی خوب و سالم شوی؟»

⁷The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I’m coming, another steps down before me.”

⁷آن مریض جواب داد: «ای آقا، وقتی آب به حرکت می آید کسی نیست که به من کمک کند و مرا در حوض بیاندازد. تا من از جایم حرکت می کنم، شخص دیگری پیش از من داخل می شود.»

⁸Jesus said to him, “Arise, take up your mat, and walk.”

⁸عیسی به او گفت: «برخیز بسترت را بردار و برو.»

⁹Immediately, the man was made well, and took up his mat and walked. Now it was the Sabbath on that day.

⁹آن مرد فوراً شفا یافت و بستر خود را برداشت و به راه افتاد. آن روز، روز سَبَت بود.

¹⁰So the Jews said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath. It is not lawful for you to carry the mat.”

¹⁰به همین علت یهودیان به مردی که شفا یافته بود گفتند: «امروز روز سَبَت است، تو اجازه نداری بستر خود را ببری.»

¹¹He answered them, “He who made me well, the same said to me, ‘Take up your mat, and walk.’ ”

¹¹او در جواب ایشان گفت: «آن کسی که مرا شفا داد به من گفت: بسترت را بردار و برو.»

¹²Then they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your mat, and walk’ ?”

¹²از او پرسیدند: «چه شخصی به تو گفت: بسترت را بردار و برو؟»

¹³But he who was healed didn’t know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a crowd being in the place.

¹³ولی آن مردی که شفا یافته بود او را نمی شناخت زیرا آن محل پُر از جمعیت بود و عیسی از آنجا رفته بود.

¹⁴Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “Behold, you are made well. Sin no more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

¹⁴بعد از این جریان، عیسی او را در عبادتگاه یافته به او گفت: «اکنون که شفا یافته ای دیگر گناه نکن، مبادا به وضع بدتری دچار شوی.»

¹⁵The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

¹⁵آن مرد رفت و به یهودیان گفت: «کسی که مرا شفا داد عیسی است.»

¹⁶For this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill him, because he did these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁶چون عیسی در روز سَبَت این کارها را می کرد، یهودیان به زجر او پرداختند.

¹⁷But Jesus answered them, “My Father is still working, so I am working, too.”

¹⁷اما عیسی به آنها گفت: «پدرم هنوز کار می کند و من هم کار می کنم.»

¹⁸For this cause therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

¹⁸پس از این سبب، یهودیان بیشتر قصد قتل او را کردند چون او نه تنها روز سَبَت را می شکست، بلکه خدا را پدر خود می خواند و بدین طریق خود را با خدا برابر می ساخت.

¹⁹Jesus therefore answered them, “Most certainly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father doing. For whatever things he does, these the Son also does likewise.

¹⁹عیسی در جواب آنها گفت: «بیقین بدانید که پسر نمی تواند از خود کاری انجام دهد مگر آنچه که می بیند پدر انجام می دهد. هرچه پدر می کند پسر هم می کند،

²⁰ For the Father has affection for the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does. He will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

²⁰زیرا پدر پسر را دوست دارد و هرچه انجام دهد، به پسر نیز نشان می دهد و کارهای بزرگتر از این هم به او نشان خواهد داد تا شما تعجب کنید،

²¹ For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom he desires.

²¹زیرا همانطور که پدر مردگان را زنده می کند و به آن ها زندگی می بخشد، پسر هم هرکه را بخواهد زنده می کند.

²² For the Father judges no one, but he has given all judgment to the Son,

²²پدر بر هیچ کس داوری نمی کند، او تمام داوری را به پسر سپرده است،

²³ that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He who doesn’t honor the Son doesn’t honor the Father who sent him.

²³تا آنکه همه، همانطور که پدر را احترام می کنند، پسر را نیز احترام نمایند. کسی که به پسر بی حرمتی کند، به پدر که او را فرستاده است بی حرمتی کرده است.

²⁴ “Most certainly I tell you, he who hears my word, and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and doesn’t come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.

²⁴بیقین بدانید، هرکه سخنان مرا بشنود و به فرستندۀ من ایمان آورد، زندگی ابدی دارد و هرگز ملامت نخواهد شد، بلکه از مرگ گذشته و به زندگی رسیده است.

²⁵ Most certainly, I tell you, the hour comes, and now is, when the dead will hear the Son of God’s voice; and those who hear will live.

²⁵بیقین بدانید که زمانی خواهد آمد، و در واقع آن زمان شروع شده است، که مردگان صدای پسر خدا را خواهند شنید و هرکه بشنود زنده خواهد شد،

²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself.

²⁶زیرا همانطور که پدر سرچشمۀ زندگی است، به پسر هم این قدرت را بخشیده است تا سرچشمۀ زندگی باشد.

²⁷ He also gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.

²⁷و به او اختیار داده است که داوری نماید، زیرا پسر انسان است.

²⁸ Don’t marvel at this, for the hour comes, in which all that are in the tombs will hear his voice,

²⁸از این تعجب نکنید، زیرا زمانی خواهد آمد که همۀ مردگان صدای او را خواهند شنید

²⁹ and will come out; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgment.

²⁹و از قبرهای خود بیرون خواهند آمد ـ نیکوکاران برای زندگی خواهند برخاست و بدکاران برای بازخواست.

³⁰ I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous; because I don’t seek my own will, but the will of my Father who sent me.

³⁰من از خود نمی توانم کاری انجام دهم بلکه مطابق آنچه که می شنوم قضاوت می کنم و قضاوت من عادلانه است، زیرا در پی انجام خواسته های خودم نیستم، بلکه انجام ارادۀ پدری که مرا فرستاده است.

³¹ “If I testify about myself, my witness is not valid.

³¹اگر من دربارۀ خودم شهادت بدهم، شهادت من اعتباری ندارد،

³² It is another who testifies about me. I know that the testimony which he testifies about me is true.

³²ولی شخص دیگری هست که دربارۀ من شهادت می دهد و می دانم که شهادت او دربارۀ من اعتباری دارد.

³³ You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.

³³شما قاصدانی پیش یحیی فرستادید و او به حقیقت شهادت داد.

³⁴ But the testimony which I receive is not from man. However, I say these things that you may be saved.

³⁴من به شهادت انسان نیازی ندارم بلکه بخاطر نجات شما این سخنان را می گویم.

³⁵ He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.

³⁵یحیی مانند چراغی بود، که می سوخت و می درخشید و شما می خواستید، برای مدتی در نور او شادمانی کنید.

³⁶ But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John, for the works which the Father gave me to accomplish, the very works that I do, testify about me, that the Father has sent me.

³⁶اما من شاهدی بزرگتر از یحیی دارم: کارهایی که پدر به من سپرده است تا انجام دهم، بر این حقیقت شهادت می دهند که پدر مرا فرستاده است.

³⁷ The Father himself, who sent me, has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.

³⁷پدری که مرا فرستاد خودش بر من شهادت داده است. شما هرگز نه او را دیده اید و نه صدایش را شنیده اید

³⁸ You don’t have his word living in you; because you don’t believe him whom he sent.

³⁸و کلام او در دل های شما جایی ندارد، زیرا به آن کسی که فرستاده است، ایمان نمی آورید.

³⁹ “You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are they which testify about me.

³⁹نوشته ها را مطالعه می نمایید، چون خیال می کنید که در آن ها زندگی ابدی خواهید یافت. در حالی که آن ها دربارۀ من شهادت می دهد،

⁴⁰ Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life.

⁴⁰شما نمی خواهید پیش من بیایید تا زندگی بیابید.

⁴¹ I don’t receive glory from men.

⁴¹من از مردم توقع احترام ندارم.

⁴² But I know you, that you don’t have God’s love in yourselves.

⁴²من شما را می شناسم و می دانم که خدا را از دل دوست ندارید.

⁴³ I have come in my Father’s name, and you don’t receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.

⁴³من به نام پدر خود آمده ام و شما مرا نمی پذیرید، ولی اگر کسی خودسرانه بیاید از او استقبال خواهید کرد.

⁴⁴ How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God?

⁴⁴شما که طالب احترام از یکدیگر هستید و به عزت و احترامی که از جانب خدای یکتا می آید توجه ندارید، چگونه می توانید ایمان بیاورید؟

⁴⁵ “Don’t think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses, on whom you have set your hope.

⁴⁵گمان نکنید که من در پیشگاه پدر، شما را ملامت خواهم ساخت، کسی دیگر، یعنی همان موسی که به او امیدوار هستید، شما را ملامت می نماید.

⁴⁶ For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote about me.

⁴⁶اگر شما به موسی ایمان می داشتید بر من نیز ایمان می آوردید زیرا او دربارۀ من نوشته است.اما اگر به نوشته های او ایمان ندارید، چگونه گفتار مرا باور خواهید کرد؟»

⁴⁷ But if you don’t believe his writings, how will you believe my words?”

⁴⁷اما اگر به نوشته های او ایمان ندارید، چگونه گفتار مرا باور خواهید کرد؟»
