1Now it happened when Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai, and had utterly destroyed it; as he had done to Jericho and her king, so he had done to Ai and her king; and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel, and were among them;
1چون اَدُونِی صَدَق، پادشاه اورشلیم شنید که یوشع عای را تصرف کرد و آنرا با خاک یکسان ساخت و پادشاه آنرا بقتل رساند، مثلیکه اریحا و پادشاه آنرا از بین برد و با مردم جِبعون پیمان صلح بست. و آن ها با مردم اسرائیل زندگی می کنند، بی اندازه ترسید. چون جِبعون مثل همه پایتخت های دیگر، یک شهر مهم و بزرگتر از عای بود و همچنین مردان دلاور و جنگجو داشت،
2that they were very afraid, because Gibeon was a great city, as one of the royal cities, and because it was greater than Ai, and all its men were mighty.
2بنابران، اَدُونِی صَدَق، پادشاه اورشلیم به هوهام پادشاه حِبرون، فِراَم پادشاه یرموت، یافیع پادشاه لاخیش و دَبیر پادشاه عِجلون پیامی به این مضمون فرستاد:
3Therefore Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, to Piram king of Jarmuth, to Japhia king of Lachish, and to Debir king of Eglon, saying,
3«بیائید به من کمک کنید تا جِبعون را از بین ببریم، زیرا آن ها با یوشع و بنی اسرائیل پیمان صلح بسته اند.»
4“Come up to me, and help me, and let us strike Gibeon; for it has made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel.”
4این پنج پادشاه اموری، یعنی پادشاهان اورشلیم، حِبرون، یرموت، لاخیش و عِجلون قوای خود را جمع کرده با همه سپاه خود در جِبعون آمدند و جنگ شروع شد.
5Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, the king of Eglon, gathered themselves together, and went up, they and all their armies, and encamped against Gibeon, and made war against it.
5مردان جِبعون در اردوگاه جِلجال به یوشع خبر دادند و خواهش کرده گفتند: «ما را تنها نگذار! هرچه زودتر خود را به کمک ما برسان! ما را نجات بده! همه پادشاهان اموری که در کوهستانها زندگی می کنند، با سپاه خود برای حمله در اینجا جمع شده اند.»
6The men of Gibeon sent to Joshua to the camp to Gilgal, saying, “Don’t abandon your servants! Come up to us quickly, and save us, and help us; for all the kings of the Amorites that dwell in the hill country have gathered together against us.”
6آنگاه یوشع با قشون اسرائیل از جِلجال بسوی جِبعون حرکت کرد.
7So Joshua went up from Gilgal, he, and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor.
7خداوند به یوشع فرمود: «از دشمن نترس. من پیروزی را نصیب تو کرده ام. هیچکدام آن ها نمی تواند در برابر تو مقاومت کند.»
8Yahweh said to Joshua, “Don’t fear them, for I have delivered them into your hands. Not a man of them will stand before you.”
8پس یوشع و سپاه او تمام شب راه زدند تا به جِبعون رسیدند و یک حملۀ ناگهانی را بر اموریان شروع کردند.
9Joshua therefore came on them suddenly. He went up from Gilgal all night.
9خداوند اموریان را بوحشت انداخت و یک تعداد بیشمار آن ها در جِبعون بقتل رسیدند و بقیه به درۀ کوه بیت حورون فرار کردند. و اسرائیل آن ها را تا عزیقه و مقیده تعقیب کرده کشته می رفتند.
10Yahweh confused them before Israel, and he killed them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, and chased them by the way of the ascent of Beth Horon, and struck them to Azekah and to Makkedah.
10فراریان وقتی می خواستند از درۀ کوه حورون پائین شوند، خداوند باران سنگهای آسمانی را تا عزیقه بر سر شان آورد و همه را نابود کرد. و بسیاری از آن ها در اثر بارش سنگهای آسمانی هلاک شدند نه با شمشیر مردم اسرائیل.
11It happened, as they fled from before Israel, while they were at the descent of Beth Horon, that Yahweh cast down great stones from the sky on them to Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than who the children of Israel killed with the sword.
11در همان روزیکه مردم اسرائیل اموریان را شکست داد، یوشع در اجتماع اسرائیل بدربار خداوند چنین دعا کرد: «آفتاب بالای جِبعون جابجا بایستد و مهتاب بر وادی اَیَلون توقف کند.»
12Then Joshua spoke to Yahweh in the day when Yahweh delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel, “Sun, stand still on Gibeon! You, moon, stop in the valley of Aijalon!”
12بنابران، تا زمانیکه اسرائیل دشمنان خود را نابود نساخت، آفتاب جابجا ایستاد و مهتاب از جای خود حرکت نکرد. در این باره در «کتاب یاشر» ذکر شده است که آفتاب در وسط آسمان جابجا ایستاد و تمام روز غروب نکرد.
13The sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the nation had avenged themselves of their enemies. Isn’t this written in the book of Jashar? The sun stayed in the midst of the sky, and didn’t hurry to go down about a whole day.
13نه پیش از آن و نه بعد از آن، کسی چنان روزی را ندیده است که خداوند آفتاب و مهتاب را از حرکت باز دارد ـ و این فقط بخاطر دعای یک بشر بود که خداوند برای مردم اسرائیل جنگ کرد.
14There was no day like that before it or after it, that Yahweh listened to the voice of a man; for Yahweh fought for Israel.
14بعد یوشع با همه سپاه خود به اردوگاه خود در جِلجال برگشت.
15Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp to Gilgal.
15در حین جنگ آن پنج پادشاه فرار کردند و در مغارۀ مقیده پنهان شدند.
16These five kings fled, and hid themselves in the cave at Makkedah.
16به یوشع خبر رسید که مخفیگاه آن پنج پادشاه را پیدا کرده اند و آن ها در مغارۀ مقیده هستند.
17Joshua was told, saying, “The five kings are found, hidden in the cave at Makkedah.”
17یوشع امر کرد که سنگهای بزرگی را به دهن مغاره بگذارند و چند نفر هم در آنجا پهره بدهند تا آن ها نتوانند از مغاره خارج شوند.
18Joshua said, “Roll large stones to the mouth of the cave, and set men by it to guard them;
18به عساکر دیگر هدایت داد: «به تعقیب بقیۀ دشمنان بروید و از پشت سر بر آن ها حمله کنید و نگذارید که داخل شهر خود شوند! خداوند، خدای تان آن ها را به دست شما داده است.»
19but don’t stay. Pursue your enemies, and them from the rear. Don’t allow them to enter into their cities; for Yahweh your God has delivered them into your hand.”
19یوشع و سپاه او به کشتار آن ها ادامه دادند و هر پنج لشکر دشمن را از بین بردند، اما یک تعداد کمی جان سالم بدر برده داخل شهر حصاردار شدند.
20It happened, when Joshua and the children of Israel had finished killing them with a very great slaughter until they were consumed, and the remnant which remained of them had entered into the fortified cities,
20بعد قشون اسرائیل بدون جزئی ترین تلفات جانی به اردوگاه خود برگشتند. و از آن به بعد کسی جرأت آنرا نداشت که حرف بدی دربارۀ اسرائیل بزند.
21that all the people returned to the camp to Joshua at Makkedah in peace. None moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.
21بعد یوشع امر کرد که سنگ ها را از دهن مغاره بردارند و آن پنج پادشاه را به نزد او بیاورند.
22Then Joshua said, “Open the mouth of the cave, and bring those five kings out of the cave to me.”
22و آن ها سنگها را از دهن مغاره برداشته پنج پادشاه اورشلیم، حبرون، یرموت، لاخیش و عِجلون را بیرون آوردند و پیش یوشع بردند. آنگاه یوشع همۀ قوم اسرائیل را جمع کرد و به فرماندهان نظامی گفت: «بیائید و پاهای تان را بر گردن این پادشاهان بگذارید.»
23They did so, and brought those five kings out of the cave to him: the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon.
23و اضافه کرد: «نترسید. شجاع و با جرأت باشید، زیرا خداوند این کار را در حق دشمنان تان می کند.»
24It happened, when they brought those kings out to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the chiefs of the men of war who went with him, “Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings.” They came near, and put their feet on their necks.
24سپس یوشع، پادشاهان را کشت و اجساد آن ها را در پنج درخت آویخت و آن ها تا شام در درخت آویزان ماندند.
25Joshua said to them, “Don’t be afraid, nor be dismayed. Be strong and courageous, for Yahweh will do this to all your enemies against whom you fight.”
25هنگام شام یوشع امر کرد که اجساد آن ها را پائین کنند و در همان مغاره ای که پنهان شده بودند، بیندازند. سنگهای بزرگی را در دهن مغاره قرار دادند که هنوز هم در آنجا دیده می شوند.
26Afterward Joshua struck them, put them to death, and hanged them on five trees. They were hanging on the trees until the evening.
26یوشع در همان روز به مقیده حمله کرده پادشاه آنرا کشت و همۀ مردم آنجا را بقتل رساند و هیچ کسی را زنده نگذاشت. و همان کاری را که در حق پادشاه اریحا کرده بود، در حق پادشاه مقیده هم کرد.
27It happened at the time of the going down of the sun, that Joshua commanded, and they took them down off the trees, and cast them into the cave in which they had hidden themselves, and laid great stones on the mouth of the cave, which remain to this very day.
27بعد یوشع با سپاه خود از مقیده حرکت کرده به لِبنَه حمله بُرد.
28Joshua took Makkedah on that day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with its king. He utterly destroyed them and all the souls who were in it. He left none remaining. He did to the king of Makkedah as he had done to the king of Jericho.
28خداوند اسرائیل را بر آن شهر و پادشاهش پیروز ساخت. هیچ کسی را زنده نگذاشت و بلائی را که بر سر پادشاه اریحا آورد بر سر این پادشاه هم آورد.
29Joshua passed from Makkedah, and all Israel with him, to Libnah, and fought against Libnah.
29یوشع و لشکر او از لِبنَه به لاخیش رفته آنرا محاصره کرد.
30Yahweh delivered it also, with its king, into the hand of Israel. He struck it with the edge of the sword, and all the souls who were in it. He left none remaining in it. He did to its king as he had done to the king of Jericho.
30و خداوند در روز دوم بنی اسرائیل را در جنگ لاخیش فاتح ساخت و کاریکه در لِبنَه کرد در لاخیش هم کرد. تمام مردم آنجا را کشت و هیچ کسی را زنده نگذاشت.
31Joshua passed from Libnah, and all Israel with him, to Lachish, and encamped against it, and fought against it.
31آنگاه هورام، پادشاه جازِر به کمک لاخیش آمد، اما یوشع او را با سپاهش مغلوب کرد و یکنفر را هم زنده نگذاشت.
32Yahweh delivered Lachish into the hand of Israel. He took it on the second day, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with all the souls who were in it, according to all that he had done to Libnah.
32سپس یوشع با سپاه خود از لاخیش به عِجلون رفت و در روز اول آنرا محاصره و تصرف کرد و مثل لاخیش همه باشندگان آنرا با دَم شمشیر کشت.
33Then Horam king of Gezer came up to help Lachish; and Joshua struck him and his people, until he had left him none remaining.
33بعد از آن یوشع با قوای خود از عِجلون به حِبرون رفت. پس از یک حمله آنرا فتح کرد. سپس پادشاه، شهرها و همه مردم آنجا را از بین برد و چنانکه در عِجلون کرد در آنجا هم هیچ کسی را زنده نگذاشت و همه کسانی را که در آنجا بودند بکلی نابود کرد.
34Joshua passed from Lachish, and all Israel with him, to Eglon; and they encamped against it fought against it.
34بعد یوشع به دَبیر حمله کرد و آنرا هم مثل حِبرون به دست آورد. پادشاه و شهرهای آنرا از بین برد. همه باشندگان آنجا را کشت و هیچ کسی زنده نماند.
35They took it on that day, and struck it with the edge of the sword. He utterly destroyed all the souls who were in it that day, according to all that he had done to Lachish.
35یوشع قرار امر خداوند، خدای مردم اسرائیل تمام آن سرزمین را که شامل کوهستان، منطقۀ جنوبی، وادی و دامنه های کوه بود، تصرف کرد. پادشاهان و مردم شان را از بین برد. همه را بکلی نابود کرد و هیچ زنده جانی را زنده نگذاشت.
36Joshua went up from Eglon, and all Israel with him, to Hebron; and they fought against it.
36مبارزۀ یوشع از قادِش بَرنیع شروع شد و تا غزه و تمام سرزمین جوشَن و جِبعون رسید.
37They took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, with its king and all its cities, and all the souls who were in it. He left none remaining, according to all that he had done to Eglon; but he utterly destroyed it, and all the souls who were in it.
37همه پادشاهان و کشورهای شان را در یک زمان فتح کرد، زیرا خداوند، خدای اسرائیل برای شان جنگ می کرد.بعد یوشع و سپاه او به اردوگاه خود در جِلجال برگشتند.
38Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to Debir, and fought against it.
38بعد یوشع و سپاه او به اردوگاه خود در جِلجال برگشتند.
39He took it, with its king and all its cities. They struck them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed all the souls who were in it. He left none remaining. As he had done to Hebron, so he did to Debir, and to its king; as he had done also to Libnah, and to its king.
40So Joshua struck all the land, the hill country, and the South, and the lowland, and the slopes, and all their kings. He left none remaining, but he utterly destroyed all that breathed, as Yahweh, the God of Israel, commanded.
41Joshua struck them from Kadesh Barnea even to Gaza, and all the country of Goshen, even to Gibeon.
42Joshua took all these kings and their land at one time, because Yahweh, the God of Israel, fought for Israel.
43Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp to Gilgal.
