¹Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judea, and Herod being tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of the region of Ituraea and Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,

¹در پانزدهمین سال حکومت طیبریوس امپراطور وقتی پنطیوس پیلاطُس والی یهودیه و هیرودیس والی ولایت جلیل و برادرش فیلیپُس والی ولایات ایتوریه و نواحی ترخونیتس و لیسانیوس والی آبلیه بود،

²in the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John, the son of Zacharias, in the wilderness.

²یعنی در زمانی که حناس و قیافا کاهنان اعظم بودند، کلام خدا در بیابان به یحیی پسر زکریا رسید.

³He came into all the region around the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for remission of sins.

³او به تمام ناحیه اطراف دریای اُردن می رفت و اعلام می کرد که مردم توبه کنند و برای آمرزش گناهان خود تعمید بگیرند.

⁴As it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet, “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make ready the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.

⁴آنچنان که در کتاب اشعیای نبی آمده است: «شخصی در بیابان فریاد می زند: راهی برای خداوند آماده سازید، طریق او را راست نمایید.

⁵Every valley will be filled. Every mountain and hill will be brought low. The crooked will become straight, and the rough ways smooth.

⁵دره ها پُر شوند، کوهها و تپه ها صاف گردند، کجی ها راست خواهند شد، راههای ناهموار هموار خواهند گشت

⁶All flesh will see God’s salvation.’” Isaiah 40:3-5

⁶و همۀ آدمیان نجات خدا را خواهند دید.»

⁷He said therefore to the multitudes who went out to be baptized by him, “You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

⁷مردم زیادی بیرون می آمدند تا از دست یحیی تعمید بگیرند. او به ایشان گفت: «ای مارها، چه کسی شما را آگاه ساخت تا از خشم و غضب آینده بگریزید؟

⁸Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and don’t begin to say among yourselves, ‘We have Abraham for our father;’ for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones!

⁸پس توبۀ خود را با ثمراتی که ببار می آورید نشان دهید و پیش خود نگوئید که ما پدری مانند ابراهیم داریم، بدانید که خدا قادر است از این سنگها فرزندانی برای ابراهیم بیافریند.

⁹Even now the axe also lies at the root of the trees. Every tree therefore that doesn’t bring forth good fruit is cut down, and thrown into the fire.”

⁹تیشه بر ریشۀ درختان گذاشته شده و هر درختی که میوۀ خوب به بار نیاورد بریده و در آتش افگنده خواهد شد.»

¹⁰The multitudes asked him, “What then must we do?”

¹⁰مردم از او پرسیدند: «پس تکلیف ما چیست؟»

¹¹He answered them, “He who has two coats, let him give to him who has none. He who has food, let him do likewise.”

¹¹او جواب داد: «آن کسی که دو پیراهن دارد، یکی را به کسی که ندارد بدهد و هرکه خوراک دارد نیز همچنین کند.»

¹²Tax collectors also came to be baptized, and they said to him, “Teacher, what must we do?”

¹²جزیه گیران هم برای گرفتن تعمید آمدند و از او پرسیدند: «ای استاد، ما چه باید بکنیم؟»

¹³He said to them, “Collect no more than that which is appointed to you.”

¹³به ایشان گفت: «بیش از آنچه مقرر شده مطالبه نکنید.»

¹⁴Soldiers also asked him, saying, “What about us? What must we do?” He said to them, “Extort from no one by violence, neither accuse anyone wrongfully. Be content with your wages.”

¹⁴عساکر هم پرسیدند: «ما چه کنیم؟» به آنها گفت: «از کسی به زور پول نگیرید و تهمت ناروا نزنید و به حقوق خود قانع باشید.»

¹⁵As the people were in expectation, and all men reasoned in their hearts concerning John, whether perhaps he was the Christ,

¹⁵مردم در انتظار بسر می بردند و از یکدیگر می پرسیدند که آیا یحیی، مسیح وعده شده است یا نه.

¹⁶John answered them all, “I indeed baptize you with water, but he comes who is mightier than I, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to loosen. He will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and fire,

¹⁶اما او چنین جواب داد: «من شما را در آب تعمید می دهم اما کسی خواهد آمد که از من تواناتر است و من لایق آن نیستم که بند بوت او را باز کنم. او شما را با روح القدس و آتش تعمید خواهد داد.

¹⁷whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor, and will gather the wheat into his barn; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”

¹⁷او شاخی خود را در دست دارد تا خرمن خود را پاک کند و گندم را در انبار جمع نماید، اما کاه را در آتشی خاموش نشدنی خواهد سوزانید.»

¹⁸Then with many other exhortations he preached good news to the people,

¹⁸یحیی با راههای بسیار و گوناگون مردم را تشویق می کرد و به آن ها بشارت می داد

¹⁹but Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias, his brother’s TR reads “brother Philip’s” instead of “brother’s” wife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done,

¹⁹اما هیرودیس، که بر سر موضوع زن برادر خود هیرودیا و زشتکاری های دیگرش از طرف یحیی ملامت شده بود،

²⁰added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.

²⁰با انداختن یحیی به زندان مرتکب کاری بدتر از همه شد.

²¹Now it happened, when all the people were baptized, Jesus also had been baptized, and was praying. The sky was opened,

²¹پس از آنکه همه تعمید گرفتند، عیسی نیز تعمید گرفت و به دعا مشغول بود که آسمان باز شد

²²and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form as a dove on him; and a voice came out of the sky, saying “You are my beloved Son. In you I am well pleased.”

²²و روح القدس به صورت کبوتری بر او نازل شد و صدایی از آسمان آمد: «تو پسر عزیز من هستی. از تو خوشنودم.»

²³Jesus himself, when he began to teach, was about thirty years old, being the son (as was supposed) of Joseph, the son of Heli,

²³وقتی عیسی خدمت خود را شروع کرد، تقریباً سی سال از عمرش گذشته بود و برحسب گمان مردم او پسر یوسف بود و یوسف پسر هالی،

²⁴the son of Matthat, the son of Levi, the son of Melchi, the son of Jannai, the son of Joseph,

²⁴پسر مَتات، پسر لاوی، پسر مَلکی، پسر یَنا، پسر یوسف،

²⁵the son of Mattathias, the son of Amos, the son of Nahum, the son of Esli, the son of Naggai,

²⁶the son of Maath, the son of Mattathias, the son of Semein, the son of Joseph, the son of Judah,

²⁷the son of Joanan, the son of Rhesa, the son of Zerubbabel, the son of Shealtiel, the son of Neri,

²⁷پسر یوحَنا، پسر ریسا، پسر زِرُبابل، پسر سِئَلتی ئیل، پسر نِیری،

²⁸the son of Melchi, the son of Addi, the son of Cosam, the son of Elmodam, the son of Er,

²⁸پسر مَلکی، پسر اَدی، پسر قوسام، پسر ایلمودام، پسر عیر،

²⁹the son of Jose, the son of Eliezer, the son of Jorim, the son of Matthat, the son of Levi,

³⁰the son of Simeon, the son of Judah, the son of Joseph, the son of Jonan, the son of Eliakim,
