¹After he had finished speaking in the hearing of the people, he entered into Capernaum.

¹وقتی عیسی تمام این سخنان را به مردم گفت به شهر کَپَرناحوم رفت.

²A certain centurion’s servant, who was dear to him, was sick and at the point of death.

²صاحب منصبی در آنجا خادمی داشت که در نظرش بسیار گرامی بود. این خادم بیمار شد و نزدیک بود بمیرد.

³When he heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, asking him to come and save his servant.

³آن صاحب منصب دربارۀ عیسی چیزهائی شنیده بود. پس عده ای از رهبران یهود را پیش او فرستاد تا از او تقاضا نمایند بیاید و غلامش را شفا دهد.

⁴When they came to Jesus, they begged him earnestly, saying, “He is worthy for you to do this for him,

⁴ایشان نزد عیسی آمدند و با زاری گفتند: «او سزاوار این لطف تو است

⁵for he loves our nation, and he built our synagogue for us.”

⁵چون ملت ما را دوست دارد و او بود که کنیسه را برای ما ساخت.»

⁶Jesus went with them. When he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying to him, “Lord, don’t trouble yourself, for I am not worthy for you to come under my roof.

⁶عیسی با آنها به راه افتاد و وقتی به نزدیکی های خانه رسید، آن صاحب منصب دوستانی را با این پیغام فرستاد که: «ای آقا، بیش از آن به خودت زحمت نده. من لایق آن نیستم که تو به زیر سقف خانه ام بیائی

⁷Therefore I didn’t even think myself worthy to come to you; but say the word, and my servant will be healed.

⁷و به همین سبب بود که روی آن را نداشتم شخصاً به خدمت تو بیایم. فقط فرمان بده و غلام من خوب خواهد شد،

⁸For I also am a man placed under authority, having under myself soldiers. I tell this one, ‘Go!’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come!’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

⁸زیرا من خود مأمور هستم و عساکر هم تحت فرمان خود دارم و به یکی می گویم «برو» می رود و به دیگری «بیا» می آید و به غلام می گویم «فلان کار را بکن» البته می کند.»

⁹When Jesus heard these things, he marveled at him, and turned and said to the multitude who followed him, “I tell you, I have not found such great faith, no, not in Israel.”

⁹عیسی وقتی این را شنید تعجب کرد و به جمعیتی که پشت سرش می آمدند رو کرد و فرمود: «بدانید که من حتی در اسرائیل هم، چنین ایمانی ندیده ام.»

¹⁰Those who were sent, returning to the house, found that the servant who had been sick was well.

¹⁰قاصدان به خانه برگشتند و غلام را سالم و تندرست یافتند.

¹¹It happened soon afterwards, that he went to a city called Nain. Many of his disciples, along with a great multitude, went with him.

¹¹فردای آن روز عیسی با شاگردان خود همراه جمعیت زیادی به شهری به نام نائین رفت.

¹²Now when he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, one who was dead was carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. Many people of the city were with her.

¹²همینکه به دروازۀ شهر رسید با مراسم جنازه ای روبرو شد. شخصی که مرده بود، پسر یگانۀ یک بیوه زن بود. بسیاری از مردم شهر همراه آن زن بودند.

¹³When the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said to her, “Don’t cry.”

¹³وقتی عیسی خداوند آن مادر را دید، دلش بحال او سوخت و فرمود: «دیگر گریه نکن.»

¹⁴He came near and touched the coffin, and the bearers stood still. He said, “Young man, I tell you, arise!”

¹⁴عیسی پیشتر رفت و دست خود را روی تابوت گذاشت و کسانی که تابوت را می بردند ایستادند. عیسی فرمود: «ای جوان به تو می گویم برخیز.»

¹⁵He who was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.

¹⁵آن مرده نشست و شروع به صحبت کرد و عیسی او را به مادرش سپرد.

¹⁶Fear took hold of all, and they glorified God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and, “God has visited his people!”

¹⁶همه ترسیدند و خدا را تمجید کرده گفتند: «پیامبر بزرگی در میان ما ظهور کرده است.» و همچنین می گفتند: «خدا آمده است تا قوم برگزیدۀ خود را رستگار سازد.»

¹⁷This report went out concerning him in the whole of Judea, and in all the surrounding region.

¹⁷خبر آنچه که عیسی کرده بود در سراسر ولایت یهودیه و همۀ اطراف آن منتشر شد.

¹⁸The disciples of John told him about all these things.

¹⁸یحیی نیز بوسیلۀ شاگردان خود از همۀ این امور باخبر شد. دو نفر از ایشان را خواست

¹⁹John, calling to himself two of his disciples, sent them to Jesus, saying, “Are you the one who is coming, or should we look for another?”

¹⁹و آن ها را با این پیغام پیش عیسی خداوند فرستاد: «آیا تو آن کسی هستی که قرار است بیاید یا منتظر دیگری باشیم؟»

²⁰When the men had come to him, they said, “John the Baptizer has sent us to you, saying, ‘Are you he who comes, or should we look for another?’”

²⁰آن دو نفر پیش عیسی آمدند و عرض کردند: «یحیای تعمید دهنده، ما را پیش تو فرستاده است تا بداند: آیا تو آن کسی هستی که قرار است بیاید یا باید منتظر دیگری باشیم؟»

²¹In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits; and to many who were blind he gave sight.

²¹همان ساعت عیسی مردم بسیار را که گرفتار ناخوشیها، بلاها و ارواح ناپاک بودند، شفا داد و به نابینایان زیادی بینائی بخشید.

²²Jesus answered them, “Go and tell John the things which you have seen and heard: that the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have good news preached to them.

²²بعد به ایشان جواب داد: «بروید و آنچه را دیده و شنیده اید به یحیی بگویید که چگونه کوران بینایی خود را باز می یابند، لنگان به راه می افتند، جذامیان پاک می شوند، کرها شنوا می گردند، مردگان زندگی را از سر می گیرند و بینوایان مژده را می شنوند.

²³ Blessed is he who finds no occasion for stumbling in me.”

²³خوشا بحال کسی که دربارۀ من شک نکند.»

²⁴When John’s messengers had departed, he began to tell the multitudes about John, “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed shaken by the wind?

²⁴بعد از آنکه قاصدان یحیی رفتند عیسی دربارۀ او برای مردم شروع به صحبت کرد و گفت: «وقتی به بیابان رفتید انتظار دیدن چه چیز را داشتید؟ نی نیزاری که از باد می لرزد؟

²⁵ But what did you go out to see? A man clothed in soft clothing? Behold, those who are gorgeously dressed, and live delicately, are in kings’ courts.

²⁵برای دیدن چه چیز بیرون رفتید؟ مردی با لباسهای ابریشمی؟ بدون شک اشخاصی که لباسهای زیبا می پوشند و زندگی پُر تجملی دارند در قصرها بسر می برند.

²⁶ But what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and much more than a prophet.

²⁶پس برای دیدن چه چیز بیرون رفتید؟ یک پیامبر؟ بلی، بدانید از پیامبر هم بالا تر.

²⁷ This is he of whom it is written, ‘Behold, I send my messenger before your face, who will prepare your way before you.’ Malachi 3:1

²⁷او مردی است که درباره اش نوشته شده است: «این است قاصد من که پیشاپیش تو می فرستم، او راه تو را پیش پایت آماده خواهد ساخت.»

²⁸ “For I tell you, among those who are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptizer, yet he who is least in the Kingdom of God is greater than he.”

²⁸بدانید که کسی بزرگتر از یحیی به دنیا نیامده است و با وجود این، کوچکترین شخص در پادشاهی خدا از او بزرگتر است.»

²⁹When all the people and the tax collectors heard this, they declared God to be just, having been baptized with John’s baptism.

²⁹همۀ مردم و از جمله جزیه گیران سخنان عیسی را شنیدند و به سبب اینکه از دست یحیی، تعمید گرفته بودند خدا را برای عدالتش شکر می کردند.

³⁰But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the counsel of God, not being baptized by him themselves.

³⁰اما فریسی ها و معلمان شریعت که تعمید یحیی را قبول نکرده بودند، نقشه ای را که خدا برای آنها داشت رد کردند.

³¹ TR adds “But the Lord said,” “To what then will I liken the people of this generation? What are they like?

³¹«مردم این زمانه را به چه چیز می توانم تشبیه کنم؟ آنها به چه می مانند؟

³² They are like children who sit in the marketplace, and call one to another, saying, ‘We piped to you, and you didn’t dance. We mourned, and you didn’t weep.’

³²مانند کودکانی هستند که در بازار می نشینند و بر سر هم فریاد می کشند و می گویند: «برای شما نَی زدیم نرقصیدید! ناله کردیم، گریه نکردید!»

³³ For John the Baptizer came neither eating bread nor drinking wine, and you say, ‘He has a demon.’

³³مقصد این است که یحیای تعمید دهنده آمد که نه نان می خورد و نه شراب می نوشید و شما می گفتید: «او دیوانه است.»

³⁴ The Son of Man has come eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man, and a drunkard; a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’

³⁴پسر انسان آمد، او هم می خورَد و هم می نوشد و شما می گوئید: «نگاه کنید، یک آدم پُرخور، میگسار و رفیق جزیه گیران و خطاکاران.»

³⁵ Wisdom is justified by all her children.”

³⁵با وجود این، درستی حکمت خداوند به وسیلۀ کسانی که آن را پذیرفته اند به ثبوت می رسد.»

³⁶One of the Pharisees invited him to eat with him. He entered into the Pharisee’s house, and sat at the table.

³⁶یکی از فریسی ها عیسی را برای صرف غذا دعوت کرد. او به خانۀ آن فریسی رفت و بر سر دسترخوان نشست.

³⁷Behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that he was reclining in the Pharisee’s house, she brought an alabaster jar of ointment.

³⁷در آن شهر زنی زندگی می کرد که رفتارش برخلاف اخلاق بود. چون او شنید که عیسی در خانۀ آن فریسی غذا می خورد در گلابدانی سنگی، روغنی معطر آورد.

³⁸Standing behind at his feet weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and she wiped them with the hair of her head, kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

³⁸پشت سر عیسی و کنار پاهای او قرار گرفت و گریه می کرد. چون اشکهایش پاهای عیسی را تر کرد، آن ها را با موی خود خشک نمود و پاهای عیسی را می بوسید و به آن ها روغن می مالید.

³⁹Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw it, he said to himself, “This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what kind of woman this is who touches him, that she is a sinner.”

³⁹وقتی صاحب خانه یعنی آن فریسی این را دید پیش خود گفت: «اگر این مرد واقعاً پیامبر می بود می دانست این زنی که او را لمس می کند کیست و چطور زنی است، او یک زن بد کاره است.»

⁴⁰Jesus answered him, “Simon, I have something to tell you.” He said, “Teacher, say on.”

⁴⁰عیسی به فریسی گفت: «شمعون، مطلبی دارم برایت بگویم.» گفت: «بفرما، استاد.»

⁴¹ “A certain lender had two debtors. The one owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty.

⁴¹فرمود: «دو نفر از شخصی قرض گرفته بودند، یکی به او پنجصد سکۀ نقره قرضدار بود و دیگری پنجاه سکۀ نقره.

⁴² When they couldn’t pay, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love him most?”

⁴²چون هیچیک از آن دو نفر چیزی نداشت که به او بدهد، طلبکار هر دو را بخشید. حالا کدامیک از آن دو او را بیشتر دوست خواهد داشت؟»

⁴³Simon answered, “He, I suppose, to whom he forgave the most.” He said to him, “You have judged correctly.”

⁴³شمعون جواب داد: «گمان می کنم آن کسی که بیشتر به او بخشیده شد.» عیسی فرمود: «قضاوت تو درست است.»

⁴⁴Turning to the woman, he said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered into your house, and you gave me no water for my feet, but she has wet my feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head.

⁴⁴و سپس رو به آن زن کرد و به شمعون فرمود: «این زن را می بینی؟ من به خانۀ تو آمدم ولی تو برای پاهایم آب نیاوردی. اما این زن پاهای مرا با اشک چشم شست و با موی خود خشک کرد.

⁴⁵ You gave me no kiss, but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet.

⁴⁵تو هیچ مرا نبوسیدی اما این زن از وقتی که من وارد شدم از بوسیدن پاهایم دست بر نمی دارد.

⁴⁶ You didn’t anoint my head with oil, but she has anointed my feet with ointment.

⁴⁶تو به سر من روغن نزدی اما او به پاهای من روغن معطر مالید.

⁴⁷ Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”

⁴⁷بنابراین بدان که محبت فراوان او نشان می دهد که گناهان بسیارش آمرزیده شده است و کسی که کم بخشیده شده باشد، کم محبت می نماید.»

⁴⁸He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”

⁴⁸بعد به آن زن فرمود: «گناهان تو بخشیده شده است.»

⁴⁹Those who sat at the table with him began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”

⁴⁹دیگر مهمانان از یکدیگر می پرسیدند: «این کیست که حتی گناهان را هم می آمرزد؟»اما عیسی به آن زن فرمود: «ایمان تو، تو را نجات داده است، بسلامت برو.»

⁵⁰He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”

⁵⁰اما عیسی به آن زن فرمود: «ایمان تو، تو را نجات داده است، بسلامت برو.»
