¹In those days, when there was a very great multitude, and they had nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples to himself, and said to them,

¹در آن روزها بار دیگر جمعیت زیادی دور عیسی جمع شد و چون غذایی نداشتند عیسی شاگردان را خواست و به ایشان فرمود:

² “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have stayed with me now three days, and have nothing to eat.

²«دل من بحال این جمعیت می سوزد. سه روز است که آن ها با من هستند و چیزی برای خوردن ندارند.

³ If I send them away fasting to their home, they will faint on the way, for some of them have come a long way.”

³اگر آن ها را گرسنه به منزل بفرستیم در بین راه از حال خواهند رفت، چون بعضی از آن ها از راه دور آمده اند.»

⁴His disciples answered him, “From where could one satisfy these people with bread here in a deserted place?”

⁴شاگردان در جواب گفتند: «چگونه می توان در این بیابان برای آن ها غذا تهیه کرد؟»

⁵He asked them, “How many loaves do you have?” They said, “Seven.”

⁵عیسی پرسید: «چند نان دارید؟» آن ها جواب دادند: «هفت نان.»

⁶He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground, and he took the seven loaves. Having given thanks, he broke them, and gave them to his disciples to serve, and they served the multitude.

⁶پس به مردم امر کرد روی زمین بنشینند. آنگاه هفت نان را گرفت و بعد از شکرگزاری به درگاه خدا نانها را پاره کرد و به شاگردان داد تا بین مردم تقسیم کنند، شاگردان نانها را بین مردم تقسیم کردند.

⁷They had a few small fish. Having blessed them, he said to serve these also.

⁷همچنین چند ماهی کوچک داشتند. عیسی خدا را برای آن ها شکر کرد و امر کرد آن ها را بین مردم تقسیم نمایند.

⁸They ate, and were filled. They took up seven baskets of broken pieces that were left over.

⁸همه خوردند و سیر شدند و هفت سبد پُر از نانهای باقیمانده جمع کردند.

⁹Those who had eaten were about four thousand. Then he sent them away.

⁹آن ها در حدود چهار هزار نفر بودند. عیسی ایشان را رخصت کرد.

¹⁰Immediately he entered into the boat with his disciples, and came into the region of Dalmanutha.

¹⁰پس از آن فوراً با شاگردان خود در کشتی نشست و به منطقۀ دلمانوته رفت.

¹¹The Pharisees came out and began to question him, seeking from him a sign from heaven, and testing him.

¹¹پیروان فرقۀ فریسی پیش عیسی آمده و با او به بحث پرداختند و از روی امتحان از او معجزه ای آسمانی خواستند.

¹²He sighed deeply in his spirit, and said, “Why does this generation The word translated “generation” here (genea) could also be translated “people,” “race,” or “family.” seek a sign? Most certainly I tell you, no sign will be given to this generation.”

¹²عیسی از دل آهی کشید و فرمود: «چرا مردمان این زمانه به دنبال معجزه هستند؟ بیقین بدانید هیچ معجزه ای به آنها داده نخواهد شد.»

¹³He left them, and again entering into the boat, departed to the other side.

¹³پس از آن عیسی آنها را ترک کرد و دوباره در کشتی نشست و به طرف دیگر بحیره رفت.

¹⁴They forgot to take bread; and they didn’t have more than one loaf in the boat with them.

¹⁴شاگردان فراموش کرده بودند که با خود نان ببرند و در کشتی بیش از یک نان نداشتند.

¹⁵He warned them, saying, “Take heed: beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and the yeast of Herod.”

¹⁵عیسی به ایشان فرمود: «از خمیرمایۀ فریسی ها و خمیرمایۀ هیرودیس دور باشید و احتیاط کنید.»

¹⁶They reasoned with one another, saying, “It’s because we have no bread.”

¹⁶شاگردان در بین خود بحث کرده گفتند: «چون ما نان نیاورده ایم، او این را می گوید.»

¹⁷Jesus, perceiving it, said to them, “Why do you reason that it’s because you have no bread? Don’t you perceive yet, neither understand? Is your heart still hardened?

¹⁷عیسی می دانست آن ها به هم چه می گویند. پس به ایشان فرمود: «چرا دربارۀ نداشتن نان با هم بحث می کنید؟ مگر هنوز درک نمی کنید و نمی فهمید؟ آیا دل و ذهن شما هنوز کور است؟

¹⁸ Having eyes, don’t you see? Having ears, don’t you hear? Don’t you remember?

¹⁸شما که هم چشم دارید و هم گوش، آیا نمی بینید و نمی شنوید؟ آیا فراموش کرده اید

¹⁹ When I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They told him, “Twelve.”

¹⁹که چگونه آن پنج نان را بین پنج هزار مرد تقسیم کردم؟ آن موقع چند سبد از نانهای باقیمانده جمع کردید؟» گفتند: «دوازده سبد.»

²⁰ “When the seven loaves fed the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They told him, “Seven.”

²⁰عیسی پرسید: «وقتی نان را بین چهار هزار نفر تقسیم کردم چند سبد از نانهای باقیمانده جمع کردید؟» گفتند: «هفت سبد.»

²¹He asked them, “Don’t you understand, yet?”

²¹پس عیسی به ایشان فرمود: «آیا بازهم نمی فهمید؟»

²²He came to Bethsaida. They brought a blind man to him, and begged him to touch him.

²²عیسی و شاگردان به بیتسَیدا رسیدند. در آنجا نابینایی را پیش عیسی آوردند و از او خواهش کردند که دست خود را روی آن کور بگذارد.

²³He took hold of the blind man by the hand, and brought him out of the village. When he had spit on his eyes, and laid his hands on him, he asked him if he saw anything.

²³او دست نابینا را گرفت و او را از دهکده بیرون برد. بعد به چشم هایش آب دهان مالید و دست های خود را روی او گذاشت و پرسید: «آیا چیزی می بینی؟»

²⁴He looked up, and said, “I see men; for I see them like trees walking.”

²⁴او به بالا دید و گفت: «مردم را مثل درخت هایی می بینم که حرکت می کنند.»

²⁵Then again he laid his hands on his eyes. He looked intently, and was restored, and saw everyone clearly.

²⁵عیسی دوباره دست های خود را روی چشم های او گذاشت. آن مرد با دقت دید و شفا یافت و دیگر همه چیز را به خوبی می دید.

²⁶He sent him away to his house, saying, “Don’t enter into the village, nor tell anyone in the village.”

²⁶عیسی او را به منزل فرستاد و به او فرمود که به آن ده برنگردد.

²⁷Jesus went out, with his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked his disciples, “Who do men say that I am?”

²⁷عیسی و شاگردان به دهکده های اطراف قیصریۀ فیلیپُس رفتند. در بین راه عیسی از شاگردان پرسید: «مردم مرا چه کسی می دانند؟»

²⁸They told him, “John the Baptizer, and others say Elijah, but others: one of the prophets.”

²⁸آن ها جواب دادند: «بعضی می گویند تو یحیای تعمید دهنده هستی، عده ای می گویند تو الیاس و عده ای هم می گویند که یکی از انبیاء هستی.»

²⁹He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Christ.”

²⁹از ایشان پرسید: «به عقیده شما من کیستم؟» پِترُس جواب داد: «تو مسیح هستی.»

³⁰He commanded them that they should tell no one about him.

³⁰بعد عیسی به آنها امر کرد که دربارۀ او به هیچ کس چیزی نگویند.

³¹He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.

³¹آنگاه عیسی به تعلیم ایشان شروع کرد و گفت: «لازم است پسر انسان متحمل رنج های زیادی شده و بوسیلۀ رهبران و سران کاهنان و علمای دین رد و کشته شود و پس از سه روز زنده گردد.»

³²He spoke to them openly. Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.

³²عیسی این موضوع را بسیار واضع گفت. بطوری که پِترُس او را به گوشه ای برده ملامت کرد.

³³But he, turning around, and seeing his disciples, rebuked Peter, and said, “Get behind me, Satan! For you have in mind not the things of God, but the things of men.”

³³اما عیسی برگشت و به شاگردان نگاهی کرد و با سرزنش به پِترُس گفت: «از من دور شو، ای شیطان، افکار تو افکار انسانی است نه خدایی.»

³⁴He called the multitude to himself with his disciples, and said to them, “Whoever wants to come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

³⁴پس عیسی مردم و همچنین شاگردان خود را پیش خود خواست و به ایشان فرمود: «اگر کسی بخواهد از من پیروی کند، باید خود را فراموش کرده و صلیب خود را بردارد و بدنبال من بیاید.

³⁵ For whoever wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever will lose his life for my sake and the sake of the Good News will save it.

³⁵زیرا هرکه بخواهد جان خود را حفظ کند آن را از دست خواهد داد، اما هرکه بخاطر من و انجیل جان خود را فدا کند، آن را نجات خواهد داد.

³⁶ For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?

³⁶چه فایده دارد که آدم تمام جهان را ببرد اما جان خود را ببازد؟

³⁷ For what will a man give in exchange for his life?

³⁷و انسان چه می تواند بدهد تا جان خود را باز یابد؟بنابراین هرکه از من و سخنان من در این زمانۀ گناه آلود و فاسد عار داشته باشد، پسر انسان هم در وقتی که در جلال پدر خود با فرشتگان مقدس می آید از او عار خواهد داشت.»

³⁸ For whoever will be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man also will be ashamed of him, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

³⁸بنابراین هرکه از من و سخنان من در این زمانۀ گناه آلود و فاسد عار داشته باشد، پسر انسان هم در وقتی که در جلال پدر خود با فرشتگان مقدس می آید از او عار خواهد داشت.»
