¹It happened, when Jesus had finished all these words, that he said to his disciples,

¹در پایان این سخنان، عیسی به شاگردان خود گفت:

² “You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified.”

²«شما می دانید که دو روز دیگر عید فِصَح است و پسر انسان به دست دشمنان تسلیم می شود و آن ها او را مصلوب می کنند.»

³Then the chief priests, the scribes, and the elders of the people were gathered together in the court of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas.

³در همین وقت سران کاهنان و بزرگان قوم در قصر قیافا کاهن اعظم جمع شدند

⁴They took counsel together that they might take Jesus by deceit, and kill him.

⁴و مشورت کردند که چگونه عیسی را با حیله دستگیر کرده به قتل برسانند.

⁵But they said, “Not during the feast, lest a riot occur among the people.”

⁵آنها گفتند: «این کار نباید در ایام عید انجام گردد، مبادا آشوب و بلوایی در میان مردم ایجاد شود.»

⁶Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

⁶وقتی عیسی در بیت عنیا در منزل شمعون جذامی بود،

⁷a woman came to him having an alabaster jar of very expensive ointment, and she poured it on his head as he sat at the table.

⁷زنی با ظرفی مرمرین پُر از عطر گرانبها پیش او آمد و در حالی که عیسی سر دسترخوان نشسته بود، آن زن عطر را روی سر او ریخت.

⁸But when his disciples saw this, they were indignant, saying, “Why this waste?

⁸شاگردان از دیدن آن عصبانی شده گفتند: «این اِسراف برای چیست؟

⁹For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.”

⁹ما می توانستیم آن را به قیمت خوبی بفروشیم و پولش را به فقرا بدهیم!»

¹⁰However, knowing this, Jesus said to them, “Why do you trouble the woman? Because she has done a good work for me.

¹⁰عیسی این را فهمید و به آنها گفت: «چرا مزاحم این زن می شوید؟ او کار بسیار خوبی برای من کرده است.

¹¹ For you always have the poor with you; but you don’t always have me.

¹¹فقرا همیشه با شما خواهند بود اما من همیشه با شما نیستم.

¹² For in pouring this ointment on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.

¹²او با ریختن این عطر بر بدن من، مرا برای دفن آماده ساخته است.

¹³ Most certainly I tell you, wherever this Good News is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be spoken of as a memorial of her.”

¹³بدانید که در هر جای عالم که این انجیل بشارت داده شود آنچه او کرده است به یاد بود او نقل خواهد شد.»

¹⁴Then one of the twelve, who was called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests,

¹⁴آنگاه یهودای اسخریوطی که یکی از آن دوازده حواری بود پیش سران کاهنان رفت

¹⁵and said, “What are you willing to give me, that I should deliver him to you?” They weighed out for him thirty pieces of silver.

¹⁵و گفت: «اگر عیسی را به شما تسلیم کنم به من چه خواهید داد؟» آنها سی سکۀ نقره را شمرده به او دادند.

¹⁶From that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

¹⁶از آن وقت یهودا به دنبال فرصت مناسبی بود تا عیسی را تسلیم نماید.

¹⁷Now on the first day of unleavened bread, the disciples came to Jesus, saying to him, “Where do you want us to prepare for you to eat the Passover?”

¹⁷در نخستین روز عید فَطیر شاگردان نزد عیسی آمده از او پرسیدند: «کجا می خواهی برای تو نان عید فِصَح را آماده کنیم؟»

¹⁸He said, “Go into the city to a certain person, and tell him, ‘The Teacher says, “My time is at hand. I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.”’”

¹⁸عیسی جواب داد: «در شهر نزد فلان شخص بروید و به او بگوئید: استاد می گوید وقت من نزدیک است و فِصَح را با شاگردانم در منزل تو نگاه خواهم داشت.»

¹⁹The disciples did as Jesus commanded them, and they prepared the Passover.

¹⁹شاگردان مطابق امر عیسی عمل کرده نان فِصَح را حاضر ساختند.

²⁰Now when evening had come, he was reclining at the table with the twelve disciples.

²⁰وقتی شب شد عیسی با دوازده شاگرد خود بر سر دسترخوان نشست.

²¹As they were eating, he said, “Most certainly I tell you that one of you will betray me.”

²¹در وقت صرف غذا فرمود: «بدانید که یکی از شما مرا تسلیم دشمن خواهد کرد.»

²²They were exceedingly sorrowful, and each began to ask him, “It isn’t me, is it, Lord?”

²²آنها بسیار ناراحت شدند و یکی پس از دیگری پرسیدند: «خداوندا، آیا من آن شخص هستم؟»

²³He answered, “He who dipped his hand with me in the dish, the same will betray me.

²³عیسی جواب داد: «کسی که دست خود را با من در کاسه می بَرَد، مرا تسلیم خواهد کرد.

²⁴ The Son of Man goes, even as it is written of him, but woe to that man through whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would be better for that man if he had not been born.”

²⁴پسر انسان به همان راهی خواهد رفت که در راجع به او نوشته شده است، اما وای بر آن کس که پسر انسان توسط او تسلیم شود. برای آن شخص بهتر می بود که هرگز به دنیا نمی آمد.»

²⁵Judas, who betrayed him, answered, “It isn’t me, is it, Rabbi?” He said to him, “You said it.”

²⁵آنگاه یهودای خائن در جواب گفت: «ای استاد، آیا آن شخص من هستم؟» عیسی جواب داد: «همانطور است که می گویی.»

²⁶As they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks for TR reads “blessed” instead of “gave thanks for” it, and broke it. He gave to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.”

²⁶غذا هنوز تمام نشده بود، که عیسی نان را برداشت و پس از شکرگزاری آن را پاره کرده به شاگردان داد و گفت: «بگیرید و بخورید، این است بدن من»

²⁷He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave to them, saying, “All of you drink it,

²⁷آنگاه پیاله را برداشت و پس از شکرگزاری آن را به شاگردان داد و گفت: «همۀ شما از این بنوشید

²⁸ for this is my blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many for the remission of sins.

²⁸زیرا این است خون من که اجرای عهد و پیمان نو را تأیید می کند و برای آمرزش گناهان بسیاری ریخته می شود.

²⁹ But I tell you that I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on, until that day when I drink it anew with you in my Father’s Kingdom.”

²⁹بدانید که من دیگر از میوۀ تاک نخواهم نوشید تا روزی که آن را با شما در پادشاهی پدرم تازه بنوشم.»

³⁰When they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

³⁰پس از آن، سرود فِصَح را خواندند و به طرف کوه زیتون رفتند.

³¹Then Jesus said to them, “All of you will be made to stumble because of me tonight, for it is written, ‘I will strike the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.’ Zechariah 13:7

³¹آنگاه عیسی به آنها فرمود: «امشب همۀ شما مرا ترک خواهید کرد، زیرا نوشته شده است: چوپان را می زنم و گوسفندان گله پراگنده خواهند شد.

³² But after I am raised up, I will go before you into Galilee.”

³²اما پس از آنکه دوباره زنده شوم، پیش از شما به جلیل خواهم رفت.»

³³But Peter answered him, “Even if all will be made to stumble because of you, I will never be made to stumble.”

³³پِترُس جواب داد: «حتی اگر همه تو را ترک نمایند، من هرگز چنین کاری نخواهم کرد.»

³⁴Jesus said to him, “Most certainly I tell you that tonight, before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.”

³⁴عیسی به او گفت: «بیقین بدان که همین امشب پیش از آنکه خروس بانگ بزند، تو سه بار خواهی گفت که مرا نمی شناسی.»

³⁵Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you.” All of the disciples also said likewise.

³⁵پِترُس گفت: «حتی اگر لازم شود با تو بمیرم. هرگز نخواهم گفت که تو را نمی شناسم.» بقیه شاگردان نیز همین را گفتند.

³⁶Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to his disciples, “Sit here, while I go there and pray.”

³⁶در این وقت عیسی با شاگردان خود به محلی به نام جِتسیمانی رسید و به آنها گفت: «در اینجا بنشینید، من برای دعا به آنجا می روم.»

³⁷He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and severely troubled.

³⁷او پِترُس و دو پسر زَبدی را با خود بُرد. غم و اندوه بر او افتاد

³⁸Then he said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here, and watch with me.”

³⁸و به آنها گفت: «جان من از شدت غم نزدیک به مرگ است، شما در اینجا بمانید و با من بیدار باشید.»

³⁹He went forward a little, fell on his face, and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass away from me; nevertheless, not what I desire, but what you desire.”

³⁹عیسی کمی پیشتر رفت، رو به زمین نهاد و دعا کرده گفت: «ای پدر اگر ممکن است، این پیاله را از من دور کن، اما نه به ارادۀ من بلکه به ارادۀ تو.»

⁴⁰He came to the disciples, and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What, couldn’t you watch with me for one hour?

⁴⁰بعد پیش آن سه شاگرد برگشت و دید که آنها خوابیده اند، پس به پِترُس فرمود: «آیا هیچ یک از شما نمی توانست یک ساعت با من بیدار بماند؟

⁴¹ Watch and pray, that you don’t enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

⁴¹بیدار باشید و دعا کنید تا دچار وسوسه نشوید، روح می خواهد، اما جسم نمی تواند.»

⁴²Again, a second time he went away, and prayed, saying, “My Father, if this cup can’t pass away from me unless I drink it, your desire be done.”

⁴²عیسی بار دیگر رفت دعا نموده گفت: «ای پدر، اگر راه دیگری نیست جز این که من این پیاله را بنوشم پس ارادۀ تو انجام شود.»

⁴³He came again and found them sleeping, for their eyes were heavy.

⁴³باز عیسی آمده آنها را در خواب دید، زیرا که چشمان ایشان از خواب سنگین شده بود.

⁴⁴He left them again, went away, and prayed a third time, saying the same words.

⁴⁴پس، از پیش آنها رفت و برای بار سوم به همان کلمات دعا کرد.

⁴⁵Then he came to his disciples, and said to them, “Sleep on now, and take your rest. Behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

⁴⁵آنگاه نزد شاگردان برگشت و به آنها گفت: «باز هم خواب هستید؟ هنوز استراحت می کنید؟ ساعت آن رسیده است که پسر انسان به دست گناهکاران تسلیم شود.

⁴⁶ Arise, let’s be going. Behold, he who betrays me is at hand.”

⁴⁶برخیزید، برویم، آن خائن حالا می آید.»

⁴⁷While he was still speaking, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priest and elders of the people.

⁴⁷عیسی هنوز صحبت خود را تمام نکرده بود که یهودا، یکی از دوازده حواری، همراه گروه زیادی از کسانی که سران کاهنان و بزرگان قوم فرستاده بودند به آنجا رسیدند. این گروه همه با شمشیر و چوب مسلح بودند.

⁴⁸Now he who betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, “Whoever I kiss, he is the one. Seize him.”

⁴⁸آن شاگرد خائن به همراهان خود علامتی داده و گفته بود: «کسی را که می بوسم همان شخص است، او را بگیرید.»

⁴⁹Immediately he came to Jesus, and said, “Hail, Rabbi!” and kissed him.

⁴⁹پس یهودا فوراً به طرف عیسی رفت و گفت: «سلام، ای استاد» و او را بوسید.

⁵⁰Jesus said to him, “Friend, why are you here?” Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

⁵⁰عیسی در جواب گفت: «ای دوست، کار خود را زودتر انجام بده.» در همین موقع آن گروه پیش رفتند و عیسی را دستگیر کرده محکم گرفتند.

⁵¹Behold, one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck the servant of the high priest, and struck off his ear.

⁵¹در این لحظه یکی از کسانی که با عیسی بودند، دست به شمشیر خود بُرد، آن را کشید و به غلام کاهن اعظم زده گوش او را برید.

⁵²Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place, for all those who take the sword will die by the sword.

⁵²ولی عیسی به او فرمود: «شمشیر خود را غلاف کن. هرکه شمشیر کشد به شمشیر کشته می شود.

⁵³ Or do you think that I couldn’t ask my Father, and he would even now send me more than twelve legions of angels?

⁵³مگر نمی دانی که من می توانم از پدر خود بخواهم که بیش از دوازده فوج فرشته را به یاری من بفرستد؟

⁵⁴ How then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that it must be so?”

⁵⁴اما در آن صورت پیشگوئی های کلام خدا چگونه تمام می شود؟»

⁵⁵In that hour Jesus said to the multitudes, “Have you come out as against a robber with swords and clubs to seize me? I sat daily in the temple teaching, and you didn’t arrest me.

⁵⁵آنگاه عیسی رو به جمعیت کرده گفت: «مگر می خواهید یک راهزن را بگیرید که این طور مسلح با شمشیر و چوب برای دستگیری من آمده اید؟ من هر روز در عبادتگاه می نشستم و تعلیم می دادم و شما دست به سوی من دراز نکردید،

⁵⁶ But all this has happened, that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him, and fled.

⁵⁶اما تمام این چیزها واقع شد تا آنچه انبیاء نوشته اند به انجام رسد.» در این وقت همۀ شاگردان او را ترک کرده گریختند.

⁵⁷Those who had taken Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were gathered together.

⁵⁷آن گروه عیسی را به خانۀ قیافا، کاهن اعظم، که علمای دین و بزرگان یهود در آنجا جمع شده بودند، بُردند.

⁵⁸But Peter followed him from a distance, to the court of the high priest, and entered in and sat with the officers, to see the end.

⁵⁸پِترُس از دور به دنبال عیسی آمد تا به حویلی خانۀ کاهن اعظم رسید و داخل شده در میان خدمتکاران نشست تا پایان کار را ببیند.

⁵⁹Now the chief priests, the elders, and the whole council sought false testimony against Jesus, that they might put him to death;

⁵⁹سران کاهنان و تمام اعضای شورا کوشش می کردند، دلیلی برضد عیسی پیدا کنند تا بر اساس آن او را به قتل برسانند.

⁶⁰and they found none. Even though many false witnesses came forward, they found none. But at last two false witnesses came forward,

⁶⁰اما با وجود اینکه بسیاری پیش رفتند و شهادتهای دروغ دادند، شورا نتوانست دلیلی پیدا کند. آخر دو نفر بر خاستند

⁶¹and said, “This man said, ‘I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.’”

⁶¹و گفتند: «این مرد گفته است: من می توانم عبادتگاه را خراب کرده و در ظرف سه روز دوباره بسازم.»

⁶²The high priest stood up, and said to him, “Have you no answer? What is this that these testify against you?”

⁶²کاهن اعظم برخاسته از عیسی پرسید: «آیا به تهمتهای که این شاهدان به تو می زنند جواب نمی دهی؟»

⁶³But Jesus held his peace. The high priest answered him, “I adjure you by the living God, that you tell us whether you are the Christ, the Son of God.”

⁶³اما عیسی خاموش ماند. پس کاهن اعظم گفت: «تو را به خدای زنده سوگند می دهم به ما بگو آیا تو مسیح، پسر خدا هستی؟»

⁶⁴Jesus said to him, “You have said it. Nevertheless, I tell you, after this you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of the sky.”

⁶⁴عیسی جواب داد: «همان است که تو می گوئی. اما همه شما بدانید، که بعد از این پسر انسان را خواهید دید که بر دست راست قادر مطلق نشسته و بر ابر های آسمان می آید.»

⁶⁵Then the high priest tore his clothing, saying, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Behold, now you have heard his blasphemy.

⁶⁵کاهن اعظم گریبان خود را دریده گفت: «او کفر گفت! آیا شهادتی بالا تر از این می خواهید؟ شما حالا کفر او را با گوش خود شنیدید.

⁶⁶What do you think?” They answered, “He is worthy of death!”

⁶⁶نظر شما چیست؟» آن ها جواب دادند: «او مستوجب اعدام است.»

⁶⁷Then they spit in his face and beat him with their fists, and some slapped him,

⁶⁷آنگاه آب دهان به صورتش انداخته او را زدند و کسانی که بر رخسارش سیلی می زدند،

⁶⁸saying, “Prophesy to us, you Christ! Who hit you?”

⁶⁸می گفتند: «حالا ای مسیح از غیب بگو چه کسی تو را زده است.»

⁶⁹Now Peter was sitting outside in the court, and a maid came to him, saying, “You were also with Jesus, the Galilean!”

⁶⁹در این وقت پِترُس در بیرون، در حویلی خانه نشسته بود که خادمه ای پیش او آمده گفت: «تو هم با عیسی جلیلی بودی.»

⁷⁰But he denied it before them all, saying, “I don’t know what you are talking about.”

⁷⁰پِترُس در حضور همه منکر شده گفت: «من نمی دانم تو چه می گویی.»

⁷¹When he had gone out onto the porch, someone else saw him, and said to those who were there, “This man also was with Jesus of Nazareth.”

⁷¹پِترُس از آنجا به طرف در حویلی رفت و در آنجا خادمۀ دیگری او را دیده به اطرافیان خود گفت: «این شخص با عیسی ناصری بود.»

⁷²Again he denied it with an oath, “I don’t know the man.”

⁷²باز هم پِترُس منکر شده گفت: «من قسم می خورم که آن مرد را نمی شناسم.»

⁷³After a little while those who stood by came and said to Peter, “Surely you are also one of them, for your speech makes you known.”

⁷³کمی بعد کسانی که آنجا ایستاده بودند، پیش پِترُس آمده به او گفتند: «البته تو یکی از آن ها هستی زیرا از لهجه ات پیدا است.»

⁷⁴Then he began to curse and to swear, “I don’t know the man!” Immediately the rooster crowed.

⁷⁴اما او سوگند یاد کرد و گفت: «من این شخص را نمی شناسم.» در همان لحظه خروس بانگ زدو پِترُس به یاد آورد که عیسی به او گفته بود: «پیش از آنکه خروس بانگ بزند تو سه بار خواهی گفت که مرا نمی شناسی.» پس بیرون رفت و زار زار گریست.

⁷⁵Peter remembered the word which Jesus had said to him, “Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” He went out and wept bitterly.

⁷⁵و پِترُس به یاد آورد که عیسی به او گفته بود: «پیش از آنکه خروس بانگ بزند تو سه بار خواهی گفت که مرا نمی شناسی.» پس بیرون رفت و زار زار گریست.
