¹On that day they read in the book of Moses in the audience of the people; and therein was found written, that an Ammonite and a Moabite should not enter into the assembly of God forever,

¹در همان روز، وقتی تورات موسی برای قوم اسرائیل خوانده شد، این مطلب را در آن یافتند که عمونیان و موآبیان هرگز نباید وارد جماعت قوم برگزیدۀ خدا شوند.

²because they didn’t meet the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, to curse them: however our God turned the curse into a blessing.

²این امر بخاطر آن بود که آن ها با نان و آب از مردم اسرائیل استقبال نکردند، بلکه بِلعام را اجیر نمودند تا آن ها را لعنت کند، اما خدای ما لعنت او را به برکت تبدیل کرد.

³It came to pass, when they had heard the law, that they separated from Israel all the mixed multitude.

³وقتی این قسمت خوانده شد، قوم اسرائیل افراد بیگانه را از جماعت خود جدا ساختند.

⁴Now before this, Eliashib the priest, who was appointed over the rooms of the house of our God, being allied to Tobiah,

⁴اَلِیاشیب کاهن که تحویلدارِ تحویلخانه های عبادتگاه و دوست صمیمی طوبیا بود،

⁵had prepared for him a great room, where before they laid the meal offerings, the frankincense, and the vessels, and the tithes of the grain, the new wine, and the oil, which were given by commandment to the Levites, and the singers, and the porters; and the wave offerings for the priests.

⁵یکی از اطاقهای بزرگ تحویلخانه را به طوبیا داده بود. این اطاق قبلاً تحویلخانۀ هدایای آردی، خوشبوئی دود کردنی، ظروف عبادتگاه، ده فیصد غله، شراب و روغن زیتون بود. این هدایا متعلق به لاویان، دستۀ سرایندگان و محافظین بود. هدایای مخصوص کاهنان هم در این اطاق نگهداری می شد.

⁶But in all this, I was not at Jerusalem; for in the two and thirtieth year of Artaxerxes king of Babylon I went to the king: and after certain days asked I leave of the king,

⁶در این موقع من در اورشلیم نبودم، زیرا در سال سی و دوم سلطنت اُردشیر، پادشاه فارس، که بر بابل حکومت می کرد، من پیش او رفته بودم. پس از مدتی دوباره از او اجازه خواستم تا به اورشلیم بازگردم.

⁷and I came to Jerusalem, and understood the evil that Eliashib had done for Tobiah, in preparing him a room in the courts of God’s house.

⁷وقتی به اورشلیم رسیدم و از این کار زشت اَلِیاشیب باخبر شدم که در عبادتگاه برای طوبیا اطاقی فراهم کرده بود،

⁸It grieved me severely: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the room.

⁸بسیار خشمگین شدم و اسباب و لوازم او را از اطاق بیرون انداختم.

⁹Then I commanded, and they cleansed the rooms: and there brought I again the vessels of God’s house, with the meal offerings and the frankincense.

⁹سپس امر کردم که اطاق را تطهیر کنند و ظروف عبادتگاه، هدایای آردی و خوشبوئی های دود کردنی را به آنجا بازگردانند.

¹⁰I perceived that the portions of the Levites had not been given them; so that the Levites and the singers, who did the work, had fled everyone to his field.

¹⁰ضمناً فهمیدم که دستۀ سرایندگان عبادتگاه و سایر لاویان اورشلیم را ترک گفته به مزارع خود برگشته بودند، زیرا مردم سهم شان را به آن ها نمی دادند.

¹¹Then I contended with the rulers, and said, “Why is God’s house forsaken?” I gathered them together, and set them in their place.

¹¹پس بزرگان قوم را سرزنش کرده گفتم: «چرا از عبادتگاه غافل مانده اید؟» بعد تمام لاویان را جمع کرده آن ها را دوباره در عبادتگاه مؤظف ساختم.

¹²Then brought all Judah the tithe of the grain and the new wine and the oil to the treasuries.

¹²آنگاه قوم اسرائیل بار دیگر ده فیصد غله، شراب و روغن زیتون خود را در تحویلخانه ها آوردند.

¹³I made treasurers over the treasuries, Shelemiah the priest, and Zadok the scribe, and of the Levites, Pedaiah: and next to them was Hanan the son of Zaccur, the son of Mattaniah; for they were counted faithful, and their business was to distribute to their brothers.

¹³سپس شلمیای کاهن، فَدایای لاوی و صادوق را که معلمین مذهبی بودند، مأمور محافظت تحویلخانه ها تعیین کردم، و حانان (پسر زَکور، نواسۀ مَتَنیا) را هم معاون آن ها مقرر نمودم. زیرا همۀ این اشخاص مورد اعتماد مردم بودند و مسئولیت آن ها، توزیع سهمیه بین لاویان بود.

¹⁴Remember me, my God, concerning this, and don’t wipe out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for its observances.

¹⁴ای خدای من، کارهای مرا بیاد آور و خدماتی را که برای عبادتگاه تو کرده ام، محو مساز.

¹⁵In those days saw I in Judah some men treading winepresses on the Sabbath, and bringing in sheaves, and loading donkeys; as also wine, grapes, and figs, and all kinds of burdens, which they brought into Jerusalem on the Sabbath day: and I testified against them in the day in which they sold food.

¹⁵در آن روزها در یهودا عده ای را دیدم که در روز سَبَت در چرخُشت ها انگور می فشردند و بعضی ها غله، شراب، انگور، انجیر و چیزهای دیگر را بر الاغ بار می کردند تا به اورشلیم ببرند و بفروشند. پس به آن ها اخطار دادم که در روز سَبَت این کار را نکنند.

¹⁶There lived men of Tyre also therein, who brought in fish, and all kinds of wares, and sold on the Sabbath to the children of Judah, and in Jerusalem.

¹⁶یک عده از اهالی صور هم که در اورشلیم سکونت داشتند، در روز سَبَت ماهی و اموال گوناگون می آوردند و به قوم اسرائیل در اورشلیم می فروختند.

¹⁷Then I contended with the nobles of Judah, and said to them, “What evil thing is this that you do, and profane the Sabbath day?

¹⁷آنگاه بزرگان یهودا را سرزنش کرده گفتم: «این چه کار زشتی است که انجام می دهید؟ چرا روز سَبَت را بیحرمت می سازید؟

¹⁸Didn’t your fathers do thus, and didn’t our God bring all this evil on us, and on this city? Yet you bring more wrath on Israel by profaning the Sabbath.”

¹⁸آیا برای همین کار نبود که خدا اجداد تان را مجازات کرد و این شهر را ویران نمود؟ حالا خود شما هم روز سَبَت را بیحرمت می کنید و باعث می شوید که غضب خدا بر اسرائیل زیاد گردد.»

¹⁹It came to pass that, when the gates of Jerusalem began to be dark before the Sabbath, I commanded that the doors should be shut, and commanded that they should not be opened until after the Sabbath. I set some of my servants over the gates, that no burden should be brought in on the Sabbath day.

¹⁹سپس امر کردم که دروازه های شهر اورشلیم را از شروع شام سَبَت تا ختم روز آن باز نکنند. چند نفر از افراد خود را فرستادم تا دم دروازه ها پهره بدهند و نگذارند که کسی در روز سَبَت چیزی برای فروش به شهر بیاورد.

²⁰So the merchants and sellers of all kinds of wares lodged outside of Jerusalem once or twice.

²⁰تاجران و فروشندگان یکی دوبار در خارج شهر اورشلیم شب را بسر بردند.

²¹Then I testified against them, and said to them, “Why do you stay around the wall? If you do so again, I will lay hands on you.” From that time on, they didn’t come on the Sabbath.

²¹ولی من آن ها را تهدید کرده گفتم: «اینجا چه می کنید؟ چرا پشت دیوار شب را بسر می برید؟ اگر یک بار دیگر این کار را بکنید، مجبورم که از زور کار بگیرم.» از آن روز به بعد، دیگر در روزهای سَبَت نیامدند.

²²I commanded the Levites that they should purify themselves, and that they should come and keep the gates, to sanctify the Sabbath day. Remember to me, my God, this also, and spare me according to the greatness of your loving kindness.

²²بعد به لاویان امر کردم که طهارت کنند و دَم دروازه ها پهره بدهند تا تقدس روز سَبَت حفظ شود. ای خدای من، این کار مرا بیاد آور و بر حسب رحمت بی پایانت بر من ترحم فرما.

²³In those days also saw I the Jews who had married women of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab:

²³در آن روزها عده ای از یهودیان را دیدم که از بین اقوام اَشدُودیان، موابی ها و عمونیان برای خود زن گرفته بودند

²⁴and their children spoke half in the speech of Ashdod, and could not speak in the Jews’ language, but according to the language of each people.

²⁴و نصف فرزندان شان به زبان اَشدُودی یا سایر زبانها صحبت می کردند، اما زبان ما را نمی فهمیدند.

²⁵I contended with them, and cursed them, and struck certain of them, and plucked off their hair, and made them swear by God, “You shall not give your daughters to their sons, nor take their daughters for your sons, or for yourselves.

²⁵پس با آن ها دعوا نموده، ایشان را ملامت کردم. بعضی از ایشان را زدم و موی سر شان را کندم و در حضور خدا قسم دادم که نگذارند که فرزندان شان با مردم غیر یهودی ازدواج کنند.

²⁶Didn’t Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations was there no king like him, and he was beloved of his God, and God made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless foreign women caused even him to sin.

²⁶بعد گفتم: «آیا این همان گناهی نیست که سلیمان پادشاه مرتکب شد؟ سلیمان در بین پادشاهان جهان بی نظیر بود. خدا او را دوست می داشت و او را پادشاه تمام اسرائیل ساخت، اما باوجود این، همسران بیگانۀ سلیمان، او را بسوی بت پرستی کشانیدند.

²⁷Shall we then listen to you to do all this great evil, to trespass against our God in marrying foreign women?”

²⁷حالا که شما برای خود زنان بیگانه گرفته و به خدای خود خیانت کرده اید، خیال می کنید که ما این شرارت شما را تحمل خواهیم کرد؟»

²⁸One of the sons of Joiada, the son of Eliashib the high priest, was son-in-law to Sanballat the Horonite: therefore I chased him from me.

²⁸یکی از پسران یَهویاداع (پسر اَلِیاشیب کاهن اعظم) با دختر سَنبَلَط حورونی ازدواج کرده بود، پس مجبور شدم او را از اورشلیم بیرون کنم.

²⁹Remember them, my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, and the covenant of the priesthood, and of the Levites.

²⁹ای خدای من، کارهای آن ها را فراموش نکن، زیرا به مقام کاهنی و عهد و پیمان کاهنان و لاویان توهین کرده اند.

³⁰Thus I cleansed them from all foreigners, and appointed duties for the priests and for the Levites, everyone in his work;

³⁰پس قوم برگزیدۀ خدا را از بیگانگان جدا کردم و برای کاهنان و لاویان وظیفه تعیین نمودم تا هر کس بداند که چه باید بکند.ترتیبی دادم تا به موقع برای قربانگاه هیزم بیاورند و میوۀ نو محصولات را جمع آوری کنند. ای خدای من، مرا بیاد آور و برکت بده.

³¹and for the wood offering, at times appointed, and for the first fruits. Remember me, my God, for good.

³¹ترتیبی دادم تا به موقع برای قربانگاه هیزم بیاورند و میوۀ نو محصولات را جمع آوری کنند. ای خدای من، مرا بیاد آور و برکت بده.
