¹Now it happened, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

²that I put my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the governor of the castle, in charge of Jerusalem; for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.

²مسئولیت ادارۀ شهر اورشلیم را به برادرم حنانی و حنانیا سپردم. حنانیا قوماندان قلعۀ نظامی و مردی بسیار صادق بود و در خداترسی کسی به پای او نمی رسید.

³I said to them, “Don’t let the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun is hot; and while they stand guard, let them shut the doors, and you bar them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, everyone in his watch, with everyone near his house.”

³به آن ها هدایت دادم که هر صبح دروازۀ اورشلیم را بعد از طلوع آفتاب باز کنند و در وقت شب هم نگهبانان پیش از ترک نوبت خود دروازه ها را ببندند و قفل کنند. ضمناً گفتم که نگهبانانی را از اهالی اورشلیم تعیین کنند تا پهره بدهند و هر کسی که خانه اش نزدیک دیوار است، نگهبان همان قسمت دیوار باشد.

⁴Now the city was wide and large; but the people were few therein, and the houses were not built.

⁴شهر اورشلیم بسیار وسیع بود و جمعیت آن کم، و هنوز خانه ها دوباره اعمار نشده بودند.

⁵My God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. I found the book of the genealogy of those who came up at the first, and I found written therein:

⁵آنگاه خدای من در دلم گذاشت که تمام سران، بزرگان و اهالی شهر را برای ثبت نسب نامه های شان جمع کنم. نسب نامه های کسانی را که قبلاً به یهودا بازگشته بودند، در کتابی به این مضمون نوشتم:

⁶These are the children of the province, who went up out of the captivity of those who had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and who returned to Jerusalem and to Judah, everyone to his city;

⁶عدۀ زیادی از یهودیانی که نِبوکدنِزر، پادشاه بابل آن ها را اسیر کرده و به بابل برده بود، به یهودا و اورشلیم بازگشتند و هر کس به شهر خود رفت.

⁷رهبران یهودیان در این سفر عبارت بودند از: زِرُبابل، یسیوع، نِحِمیا، عَزریا، رَعَمیا، نَحَمانی، مُردِخای، بِلشان، مِسفارِت، بِغوای، نَحوم و بعنه. نام خانواده های یهودیانی که به وطن بازگشتند و تعداد آن ها قرار ذیل است:

⁹تعداد کاهنانی که به وطن بازگشتند اینها هستند: از خانوادۀ یَدَعیا (اولادۀ یشوع) نهصد و هفتاد و سه نفر؛ از خانوادۀ اِمیر یکهزار و پنجاه و دو نفر؛ از خانوادۀ فَشحور یکهزار و دوصد و چهل و هفت نفر؛ از خانوادۀ حاریم یکهزار و هفده نفر.

¹⁰The children of Arah, six hundred fifty-two.

¹⁰تعداد لاویانی که به وطن بازگشتند اینها بودند: از خانواده های یشوع و قدمی ئیل (اولادۀ هودویا) هفتاد و چهار نفر؛ خوانندگان و نوازندگان عبادتگاه (اولادۀ آساف) یکصد و چهل و هشت نفر؛ نگهبانان عبادتگاه (اولادۀ شلوم، آطیر، طَلمون، عَقوب، حَطِیطَه و شوبای) یکصد و سی و هشت نفر.

¹¹خادمان عبادتگاه که به وطن بازگشتند از این خانواده ها بودند: صِیحهَ، حَسوفا، تباعوت، قیروس، سیعا، فادون، لبانه، حَجابَه، شَلمای، حانان، جِدیل، جاحَر، رایه، رزین، نِقودا، جَزام، عُزه، فاسیح، بیسای، معونیم، نِفِیشَسِیم، بَقبُوق، حَقوما، حَرحور، بَزَلیت، محیدا، حَرشا، بَرقُوس، سیسَرا، تامَح، نَصیح و حَطیفا.

¹²این افراد نیز که از اولادۀ خادمان سلیمان پادشاه بودند به وطن بازگشتند: سوطای، صوفرَت، فَریدا، یعله، دَرقون، جِدیل، شِفَطیا، حَطیل، فُوخَرَت حَظبایم و آمون.

¹³خادمان عبادتگاه و اولادۀ خادمان سلیمان پادشاه، مجموعاً سیصد و نود و دو نفر بودند.

¹⁴The children of Zaccai, seven hundred sixty.

¹⁴در این هنگام گروه دیگری از تِل مِلح، تِل حَرشا، کِروب، اَدُون و اِمیر به اورشلیم و سایر شهرهای یهودا بازگشتند. آن ها نمی توانستند از طریق نسب نامه های خود ثابت کنند که اسرائیلی هستند.

¹⁵اینها از خانواده های دِلایا، طوبیا و نِقودا بودند که مجموعاً ششصد و چهل و دو نفر می شدند.

¹⁶The children of Bebai, six hundred twenty-eight.

¹⁶خاندان های زیر که از گروه کاهنان بودند نتوانستند مدارک لازم را برای اثبات نسب خود به کاهنان پیدا کنند: حَبایا، هَقوس، و بَرزِلای (که با یکی از دختران بَرزِلای جِلعادی ازدواج کرده بود و نام فامیل خسر خود را هم انتخاب کرده بود.)

¹⁷The children of Azgad, two thousand three hundred twenty-two.

¹⁷اما چون آن ها نتوانستند از طریق نسب نامه های خود ثابت کنند که اولادۀ کاهنان هستند، از مقام کهانت برطرف شدند.

¹⁸The children of Adonikam, six hundred sixty-seven.

¹⁸حاکم یهودیان به آن ها اجازه نداد که از قربانی های سهم کاهنان بخورند تا اینکه بوسیلۀ اوریم و تُمیم از طرف خداوند معلوم شود که آیا آن ها واقعاً اولادۀ کاهنان هستند یا نه.

¹⁹The children of Bigvai, two thousand sixty-seven.

¹⁹پس مجموعاً چهل و دو هزار و سیصد و شصت نفر به سرزمین یهودا برگشتند. علاوه بر این تعداد، هفت هزار و سیصد و سی و هفت غلام و کنیز، دوصد و چهل و پنج نوازندۀ مرد و زن نیز به وطن بازگشتند.

²⁰آن ها هفتصد و سی و شش اسپ، دوصد و چهل و پنج قاطر، چهارصد و سی و پنج شتر و شش هزار و هفتصد و بیست الاغ را با خود آوردند.

²¹برخی از مردم برای اعمار مجدد عبادتگاه هدایا تقدیم کردند. حاکم یهودیان در حدود هشت و نیم کیلوگرام طلا، پنجاه عدد جام و پنجصد و سی دست لباس برای کاهنان هدیه کرد. سران قوم نیز یکصد و شصت و هشت کیلوگرام طلا و یکهزار و دوصد و پنجاه کیلوگرام نقره و بقیۀ قوم یکصد و شصت و هشت کیلوگرام طلا، یکصد و چهل کیلوگرام نقره و شصت و هفت دست لباس برای کاهنان تقدیم کردند.پس کاهنان، لاویان، نگهبانان، خوانندگان، نوازندگان، خادمان خانۀ خدا و بقیۀ قوم به یهودا آمدند و تا ماه هفتم در شهرهای خود ساکن شدند.

⁶⁰All the Nethinim, and the children of Solomon’s servants, were three hundred ninety-two.

⁶¹These were those who went up from Tel Melah, Tel Harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer; but they could not show their fathers’ houses, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel:

⁶²The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred forty-two.

⁶³Of the priests: the children of Hobaiah, the children of Hakkoz, the children of Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name.

⁶⁴These searched for their geneological records, but couldn’t find them. Therefore were they deemed polluted and put from the priesthood.

⁶⁵The governor said to them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, until there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.

⁶⁶The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred sixty,

⁶⁷besides their male servants and their female servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty-seven: and they had two hundred forty-five singing men and singing women.

⁶⁸Their horses were seven hundred thirty-six; their mules, two hundred forty-five;

⁶⁹their camels, four hundred thirty-five; their donkeys, six thousand seven hundred twenty.

⁷⁰Some from among the heads of fathers’ households gave to the work. The governor gave to the treasury one thousand darics of gold, fifty basins, and five hundred thirty priests’ garments.

⁷¹Some of the heads of fathers’ households gave into the treasury of the work twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand two hundred minas of silver.

⁷²That which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand minas of silver, and sixty-seven priests’ garments.

⁷³So the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinim, and all Israel, lived in their cities. When the seventh month had come, the children of Israel were in their cities.
