¹Now in the twenty-fourth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, and with sackcloth, and earth on them.

¹در روز بیست و چهارم همان ماه، تمام قوم اسرائیل جمع شدند تا روزه بگیرند.

²The seed of Israel separated themselves from all foreigners, and stood and confessed their sins, and the iniquities of their fathers.

²آن ها لباس ماتم بر تن داشتند و بر سر خود خاک ریخته بودند. قوم اسرائیل که خود را از تمام بیگانگان جدا کرده بودند، ایستادند و به گناهان خود و اجداد خود اعتراف نمودند.

³They stood up in their place, and read in the book of the law of Yahweh their God a fourth part of the day; and a fourth part they confessed, and worshiped Yahweh their God.

³در حدود سه ساعت از تورات خداوند، خدای شان با صدای بلند برای آن ها خوانده شد و سه ساعت دیگر به گناهان خود اعتراف کردند و همگی خداوند، خدای خود را پرستش نمودند.

⁴Then Jeshua, and Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani, and Chenani of the Levites stood up on the stairs, and cried with a loud voice to Yahweh their God.

⁴سپس یک عده از لاویان بنام های یشوع، بانی، قَدمی ئیل، شَبَنیا، بونی، شرَبیا، بانی و کنانی بر منبر لاویان ایستاده با صدای بلند بحضور خداوند، خدای خود دعا کردند.

⁵Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabneiah, Sherebiah, Hodiah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, “Stand up and bless Yahweh your God from everlasting to everlasting! Bessed be your glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise!

⁵آنگاه یشوع، قدمی ئیل، بانی، حَشَبنِیا، شرَبیا، هودویا، شَبَنیا و فَتَحیا که همگی از جملۀ لاویان بودند، با این کلمات مردم را در دعا هدایت کردند: «برخیزید و خداوند خدای خود را که از ازل تا ابد باقی است، ستایش کنید! سپاس بر نام پُر جلال تو که بالا تر از تمام تمجیدهای ما است.

⁶You are Yahweh, even you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their army, the earth and all things that are on it, the seas and all that is in them, and you preserve them all. The army of heaven worships you.

⁶تو یگانه خداوند هستی. آسمان ها و ستارگان را تو آفریدی؛ زمین و بحر و موجودات آن ها را تو بوجود آوردی؛ تو به همۀ اینها حیات بخشیدی. تمام فرشتگان آسمان، تو را سجده می کنند.

⁷You are Yahweh, the God who chose Abram, and brought him out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gave him the name of Abraham,

⁷ای خداوند، تو همان خدائی هستی که ابرام را برگزیدی، او را از شهر اورِ کلدانیان بیرون آوردی و نام او را به ابراهیم تبدیل کردی.

⁸and found his heart faithful before you, and made a covenant with him to give the land of the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Amorite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite, and the Girgashite, to give it to his seed, and have performed your words; for you are righteous.

⁸او به تو وفادار بود و تو با او پیمان بستی و به او وعده دادی که سرزمین کنعانیان، حِتیان، اَمُوریان، فِرزِیان، یبوسیان و جَرجاشیان را به او و اولادۀ او ببخشی. تو به قول خود عمل کردی، زیرا تو وفادار هستی.

⁹“You saw the affliction of our fathers in Egypt, and heard their cry by the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds ,

⁹تو رنج و سختی اجداد ما را در مصر دیدی و آه و نالۀ آن ها را در کنار بحیرۀ احمر شنیدی.

¹⁰and showed signs and wonders against Pharaoh, and against all his servants, and against all the people of his land; for you knew that they dealt proudly against them, and made a name for yourself, as it is this day.

¹⁰معجزات بزرگی به فرعون و مأمورین و تمام مردم سرزمینش نشان دادی، زیرا می دیدی که چگونه مصری ها بر اجداد ما ظلم می کردند. بخاطر این معجزات، شهرت یافتی و شهرتت تا به امروز باقی است.

¹¹You divided the sea before them, so that they went through the midst of the sea on the dry land; and you cast their pursuers into the depths, as a stone into the mighty waters.

¹¹بحر را شگافتی و از بین آب، راهی را برای عبور قوم برگزیدۀ خود آماده ساختی و دشمنانی را که آن ها را تعقیب می نمودند در بحر انداختی و آن ها مثل سنگ به اعماق بحر رفتند و غرق شدند.

¹²Moreover, in a pillar of cloud you led them by day; and in a pillar of fire by night, to give them light in the way in which they should go.

¹²در روز، با ستون ابر و در شب، با ستون آتش، اجداد ما را در راهی که می بایست بروند، هدایت کردی.

¹³“You came down also on Mount Sinai, and spoke with them from heaven, and gave them right ordinances and true laws, good statutes and commandments,

¹³تو بر کوه سینا نزول فرمودی و از آسمان با آن ها صحبت کردی و قوانین درست و احکام صحیح به آن ها بخشیدی.

¹⁴and made known to them your holy Sabbath, and commanded them commandments, and statutes, and a law, by Moses your servant,

¹⁴توسط موسی شریعت را به آن ها دادی و روز مقدس سَبَت را عطا کردی.

¹⁵and gave them bread from the sky for their hunger, and brought forth water for them out of the rock for their thirst, and commanded them that they should go in to possess the land which you had sworn to give them.

¹⁵وقتی گرسنه شدند، تو از آسمان به آن ها نان دادی، وقتی تشنه شدند، از صخره به آن ها آب نوشاندی. به آن ها گفتی به سرزمینی که قسم خورده بودی به آن ها بدهی، داخل شوند و آن را به تصرف خود بیاورند.

¹⁶“But they and our fathers dealt proudly and hardened their neck, didn’t listen to your commandments,

¹⁶اما اجداد ما متکبر و خودسر بودند و نخواستند که از احکام تو اطاعت کنند.

¹⁷and refused to obey, neither were they mindful of your wonders that you did among them, but hardened their neck, and in their rebellion appointed a captain to return to their bondage. But you are a God ready to pardon, gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abundant in loving kindness, and didn’t forsake them.

¹⁷آن ها نه تنها به اوامر تو گوش ندادند و معجزاتی را که برای آن ها کرده بودی فراموش نمودند، بلکه متمرد شدند و پیشوائی برای خود انتخاب کردند تا دوباره به مصر، سرزمین غلامی برگردند. اما تو خدای بخشنده و رحیم و مهربان هستی؛ تو پُر از محبت می باشی و زود خشمگین نمی شوی. به همین سبب آن ها را ترک نکردی.

¹⁸Yes, when they had made them a molten calf, and said, ‘This is your God who brought you up out of Egypt,’ and had committed awful blasphemies;

¹⁸با اینکه با ساختن بت گوساله به تو اهانت نمودند و گفتند: «این خدای ما است که ما را از مصر بیرون آورد.» آن ها به هر گناهی دست زدند،

¹⁹yet you in your manifold mercies didn’t forsake them in the wilderness: the pillar of cloud didn’t depart from over them by day, to lead them in the way; neither the pillar of fire by night, to show them light, and the way in which they should go.

¹⁹اما تو بخاطر رحمت عظیمت آن ها را در بیابان رها نکردی و ستون ابر را که هر روز آن ها را هدایت می کرد و نیز ستون آتش را که هر شب راه را به آن ها نشان می داد، از آن ها دور نساختی.

²⁰You gave also your good Spirit to instruct them, and didn’t withhold your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst.

²⁰روح مهربان خود را فرستادی تا آن ها را تعلیم بدهد. برای رفع گرسنگی نان آسمانی را به آن ها دادی و برای رفع تشنگی آب به آن ها بخشیدی.

²¹“Yes, forty years you sustained them in the wilderness. They lacked nothing. Their clothes didn’t grow old, and their feet didn’t swell.

²¹مدت چهل سال در بیابان از آن ها نگهداری کردی بطوری که هرگز به چیزی محتاج نشدند؛ نه لباس های شان کهنه شد و نه پاهای شان ورم کرد.

²²Moreover you gave them kingdoms and peoples, which you allotted according to their portions. So they possessed the land of Sihon, even the land of the king of Heshbon, and the land of Og king of Bashan.

²²به آن ها کمک کردی تا اقوام دیگر را شکست بدهند و ممالک شان را تصرف کرده سرحدات خود را وسیع سازند. آن ها سرزمین حِشبون را از سیحون پادشاه و سرزمین باشان را از عوج پادشاه گرفتند.

²³You also multiplied their children as the stars of the sky, and brought them into the land concerning which you said to their fathers, that they should go in to possess it.

²³جمعیت آن ها را به اندازۀ ستارگان آسمان زیاد کردی و آن ها را به سرزمینی آوردی که به اجداد شان وعده داده بودی.

²⁴“So the children went in and possessed the land, and you subdued before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gave them into their hands, with their kings, and the peoples of the land, that they might do with them as they pleased.

²⁴آن ها به سرزمین کنعان داخل شدند و تو اهالی آنجا را مغلوبِ آن ها ساختی تا هر طوری که بخواهند با پادشاه و مردم آنجا رفتار نمایند.

²⁵They took fortified cities, and a rich land, and possessed houses full of all good things, cisterns dug out, vineyards, and olive groves, and fruit trees in abundance. So they ate, were filled, became fat, and delighted themselves in your great goodness.

²⁵قوم برگزیدۀ تو شهرهای مستحکم و زمین های حاصلخیز را اشغال کردند. خانه هائی را که پُر از اشیای نفیس بودند برای خود گرفتند. چاه های آب، باغ های انگور و زیتون و درختان میوه دار را تصرف کردند. همگی خوردند و سیر شدند و از نعمتهای بیحد تو برخوردار گردیدند.

²⁶“Nevertheless they were disobedient, and rebelled against you, and cast your law behind their back, and killed your prophets that testified against them to turn them again to you, and they committed awful blasphemies.

²⁶اما آن ها بازهم نافرمانی کردند و علیه تو بغاوت نمودند. به احکام تو توجه نکردند و انبیای ترا که می کوشیدند آن ها را بسوی تو بازگردانند، کشتند و به این ترتیب، به تو اهانت نمودند.

²⁷Therefore you delivered them into the hand of their adversaries, who distressed them. In the time of their trouble, when they cried to you, you heard from heaven; and according to your manifold mercies you gave them saviors who saved them out of the hand of their adversaries.

²⁷پس تو نیز کاری کردی که در جنگ با دشمنان اسیر شوند و دشمنان بر آن ها ظلم کنند. اما وقتی از ظلم دشمن پیش تو ناله و زاری کردند، تو از آسمان دعای آن ها را شنیدی و بخاطر رحمت عظیم خود رهبرانی را فرستادی تا آن ها را از چنگ دشمن نجات دهند.

²⁸But after they had rest, they did evil again before you; therefore left you them in the hand of their enemies, so that they had the dominion over them; yet when they returned, and cried to you, you heard from heaven; and many times you delivered them according to your mercies,

²⁸اما وقتی از امنیت برخوردار شدند، باز گناه کردند. آنگاه تو به دشمنان اجازه دادی که بر آن ها تسلط یابند. با اینهم، وقتی آن ها بسوی تو بازگشتند و پیش تو زاری کردند، از آسمان به ناله و زاری آن ها گوش دادی و با رحمت عظیم خود آن ها را بارها نجات بخشیدی.

²⁹and testified against them, that you might bring them again to your law. Yet they dealt proudly, and didn’t listen to your commandments, but sinned against your ordinances, (which if a man does, he shall live in them), turned their backs, stiffened their neck, and would not hear.

²⁹به آن ها هُشدار دادی تا از احکام تو اطاعت کنند، اما بجای اطاعت از احکام حیات بخش تو، با تکبر و خودخواهی از تو روگردان شدند و احکام ترا زیر پا گذاشتند.

³⁰Yet many years you put up with them, and testified against them by your Spirit through your prophets. Yet would they not give ear. Therefore you gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.

³⁰سالها با آن ها مدارا کردی و بوسیلۀ روح خود توسط انبیاء به آن ها هُشدار دادی، ولی آن ها توجه نکردند. پس دوباره به اقوام دیگر اجازه دادی که بر آن ها مسلط شوند.

³¹“Nevertheless in your manifold mercies you did not make a full end of them, nor forsake them; for you are a gracious and merciful God.

³¹ولی باز بخاطر رحمت عظیم خود آن ها را بکلی از بین نبردی و ترک نگفتی، زیرا تو خدای رحیم و مهربان هستی.

³²Now therefore, our God, the great, the mighty, and the awesome God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness, don’t let all the travail seem little before you, that has come on us, on our kings, on our princes, and on our priests, and on our prophets, and on our fathers, and on all your people, since the time of the kings of Assyria to this day.

³²حالا ای خدای ما، ای خدای عظیم و قادر و با هیبت که به وعده های پُر از رحمت خود وفا می کنی، این همه سختی و رنجی را که کشیده ایم نباید در نظر تو ناچیز بیاید. از زمانی که پادشاهان آشور بر ما پیروز شدند تا به امروز، بلاهای زیادی بر ما، بر پادشاهان ما، بر بزرگان ما، بر کاهنان ما، بر انبیاء و بر اجداد ما نازل شده است.

³³However you are just in all that has come on us; for you have dealt truly, but we have done wickedly;

³³تو عادل هستی و هر بار که ما را مجازات کرده ای، ما مستحق بوده ایم، زیرا ما گناه کرده ایم.

³⁴neither have our kings, our princes, our priests, nor our fathers, kept your law, nor listened to your commandments and your testimonies with which you testified against them.

³⁴پادشاهان، سران قوم، کاهنان و اجداد ما از احکام تو اطاعت نکردند و به هُشدارهای تو گوش ندادند.

³⁵For they have not served you in their kingdom, and in your great goodness that you gave them, and in the large and rich land which you gave before them, neither did they turn from their wicked works.

³⁵در سرزمین وسیع و حاصلخیزی که به آن ها دادی از نعمتهای فراوان تو برخوردار شدند، اما ترا پرستش نکردند و از اعمال زشت خود دست نکشیدند.

³⁶“Behold, we are servants this day, and as for the land that you gave to our fathers to eat its fruit and its good, behold, we are servants in it.

³⁶ولی حالا در این سرزمین حاصلخیزی که به اجداد ما دادی تا از نعمتهای آن برخوردار شویم، غلامان هستیم.

³⁷It yields much increase to the kings whom you have set over us because of our sins: also they have power over our bodies, and over our livestock, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress.

³⁷محصول این زمین نصیب پادشاهانی می شود که تو بخاطر گناهان ما آن ها را بر ما مسلط ساخته ای. آن ها هر طوری که می خواهند بر جان و مال ما حکومت می کنند و ما در سختی و زحمت شدیدی گرفتار هستیم.با توجه به این اوضاع، اینک ای خداوند، ما با تو یک پیمان ناگسستنی می بندیم تا تو را خدمت کنیم و سران قوم ما همراه با لاویان و کاهنان این پیمان را مُهر می کنند.»

³⁸Yet for all this, we make a sure covenant, and write it; and our princes, our Levites, and our priests, seal it.”

³⁸با توجه به این اوضاع، اینک ای خداوند، ما با تو یک پیمان ناگسستنی می بندیم تا تو را خدمت کنیم و سران قوم ما همراه با لاویان و کاهنان این پیمان را مُهر می کنند.»
