²Behold, I have made you small among the nations. You are greatly despised.

²خداوند به ادوم می فرماید: «من ترا در بین ملل دنیا خوار و ضعیف می سازم.

³The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who dwell in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high, who says in his heart, ‘Who will bring me down to the ground?’

³تکبر و غرورت ترا گمراه کرده است. تو چون بر صخره های بلند ساکن هستی و جایت بر فراز کوه ها است، بخود می بالی و با غرور می گوئی: «کیست که بتواند دست دراز کند و مرا پائین آورد؟»

⁴Though you mount on high as the eagle, and though your nest is set among the stars, I will bring you down from there,” says Yahweh.

⁴اگر مانند عقاب در اوج آسمان پرواز کنی و آشیانه ات را در بین ستارگان بسازی، من ترا فرود می آورم.

⁵“If thieves came to you, if robbers by night—oh, what disaster awaits you—wouldn’t they only steal until they had enough? If grape pickers came to you, wouldn’t they leave some gleaning grapes?

⁵اگر دزدی در شب بخانه ای وارد شود، فقط چیزی را می برد که به آن ضرورت دارد، و اگر انگور چین برای چیدن انگور بیاید، مقداری از انگور را بجا می گذارد، اما دشمنان تو ترا بکلی غارت و نابود می کنند.

⁶How Esau will be ransacked! How his hidden treasures are sought out!

⁶ای اولادۀ عیسو، وقتی دشمنان بیایند، تمام ثروتت را به یغما می برند.

⁷All the men of your alliance have brought you on your way, even to the border. The men who were at peace with you have deceived you, and prevailed against you. Friends who eat your bread lay a snare under you. There is no understanding in him.”

⁷متحدینت به تو خیانت کردند و ترا از کشورت بیرون راندند. کسانی که با تو در صلح بودند بر تو غلبه یافتند و دوستانی که نمکِ ترا خوردند برایت دام گستردند و می گویند: «کجاست آنهمه عقل و خِرَد او؟»»

⁸“Won’t I in that day,” says Yahweh, “destroy the wise men out of Edom, and understanding out of the mountain of Esau?

⁸خداوند می فرماید: «در آن روز ادوم را مجازات می کنم. تمام اشخاص دانا را از سرزمینش نابود می سازم و همه حکیمانش را از بین می برم.

⁹Your mighty men, Teman, will be dismayed, to the end that everyone may be cut off from the mountain of Esau by slaughter.

⁹جنگجویان شجاعِ تیمان هراسان می شوند و تمام سربازان ادوم بقتل می رسند.

¹⁰For the violence done to your brother Jacob, shame will cover you, and you will be cut off forever.

¹⁰بخاطر ظلمی که در حق برادرانت، یعنی اولادۀ یعقوب کردی با رسوائی و برای همیشه نابود می شوی.

¹¹In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that strangers carried away his substance, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots for Jerusalem, even you were like one of them.

¹¹در آن روزی که دشمنان به دروازه های شان داخل شدند و بیگانگان مال دارائی اورشلیم را بین خود تقسیم کردند و با خود بردند، تو به یکسو ایستادی و تماشا کردی.

¹²But don’t look down on your brother in the day of his disaster, and don’t rejoice over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction. Don’t speak proudly in the day of distress.

¹²تو نباید از بدبختی برادرانت خوش شوی، در روز مصیبت قوم یهودا خوشحالی کنی و در هنگام غم و اندوه به آن ها بخندی.

¹³Don’t enter into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity. Don’t look down on their affliction in the day of their calamity, neither seize their wealth on the day of their calamity.

¹³تو در روز سختی قوم برگزیدۀ من با غرور به دروازه های شهر داخل نشو، در روز مصیبت آن ها ثروت شان را غارت منما و از غم آن ها خوشی نکن.

¹⁴Don’t stand in the crossroads to cut off those of his who escape. Don’t deliver up those of his who remain in the day of distress.

¹⁴بر سر چهار راه ایستاده نشو، تا آنهائی را که می خواهند فرار کنند گرفتار کنی و در آن روز مصیبت آن ها را به دست دشمنان تسلیم نکن.

¹⁵For the day of Yahweh is near all the nations! As you have done, it will be done to you. Your deeds will return upon your own head.

¹⁵زیرا روز خداوند برای تمام اقوام نزدیک است. طبق عمل و کردارت با تو رفتار می کنم. آنچه را داده ای واپس می گیری.

¹⁶For as you have drunk on my holy mountain, so will all the nations drink continually. Yes, they will drink, swallow down, and will be as though they had not been.

¹⁶قوم برگزیدۀ من بر کوه مقدس از جام تلخ مجازات نوشیدند، اما به کام اقوام دیگر تلختر از آن ریخته می شود. آن ها آن را می نوشند و از بین می روند.

¹⁷But in Mount Zion, there will be those who escape, and it will be holy. The house of Jacob will possess their possessions.

¹⁷اما قوم اسرائیل بر کوه مقدس من، در صَهیون، پناه می برند و آن سرزمین را که میراث اجداد شان است تصاحب می کنند.

¹⁸The house of Jacob will be a fire, the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble. They will burn among them, and devour them. There will not be any remaining to the house of Esau.” Indeed, Yahweh has spoken.

¹⁸خاندان یعقوب و یوسف مانند آتش، ادوم را می سوزاند و اثری از قوم ادوم باقی نمی ماند. این را من، خداوند می گویم.

¹⁹Those of the South will possess the mountain of Esau, and those of the lowland, the Philistines. They will possess the field of Ephraim, and the field of Samaria. Benjamin will possess Gilead.

¹⁹مردم از سمت جنوب یهودا، ادوم را تصرف می کنند. اهالی جلگه های غربی، فلسطین را اشغال می نمایند، قوم اسرائیل سرزمین افرایم و سامره را و قبیلۀ بنیامین جِلعاد را به دست می آورند.

²⁰The captives of this army of the children of Israel, who are among the Canaanites, will possess even to Zarephath; and the captives of Jerusalem, who are in Sepharad, will possess the cities of the Negev.

²⁰تبعیدشدگان از شمال اسرائیل بر می گردند و فینیقیه را تا زَرِفت در قسمت شمال، متصرف می شوند. تبعیدشدگان اورشلیم که در ساردِس صغیر بسر می برند، به وطن خود مراجعت کرده شهرهای جنوب را اشغال می کنند.پیروزمندان به کوه صَهیون برآمده، بر کوه عیسو «سرزمین ادوم» داوری می کنند و پادشاهی از آن خداوند است.»
