1A good name is more desirable than great riches, and loving favor is better than silver and gold.
1نیکنامی بهتر از ثروت هنگفت است و محبوبیت گرانبهاتر از طلا و نقره.
2The rich and the poor have this in common: Yahweh is the maker of them all.
2فقیر و ثروتمند یک وجه مشترک دارند: هر دوی آن ها را خداوند آفریده است.
3A prudent man sees danger, and hides himself; but the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
3شخص زیرک خطر را می بیند و از آن دوری می کند، اما آدم جاهل بسوی آن می رود و خود را گرفتار می سازد.
4The result of humility and the fear of Yahweh is wealth, honor, and life.
4ثمرۀ تواضع و اطاعت از خداوند، ثروت و احترام و عمر طولانی است.
5Thorns and snares are in the path of the wicked: whoever guards his soul stays from them.
5راه اشخاص بدکار از خارها و دامها پوشیده است. پس اگر جان خود را دوست داری از رفتن به آن راه خودداری کن.
6Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
6کودک را در راهی که باید برود، تربیه کن و او تا آخر عمر از آن منحرف نخواهد شد.
7The rich rule over the poor. The borrower is servant to the lender.
7فقیر، اسیر ثروتمند است و کسی که قرض می گیرد غلام قرض دهنده است.
8He who sows wickedness reaps trouble, and the rod of his fury will be destroyed.
8هر که ظلم بکارد، آن را درو می کند و قدرتش درهم می شکند.
9He who has a generous eye will be blessed; for he shares his food with the poor.
9شخص سخاوتمندی که غذای خود را با فقرا تقسیم می کند، برکت می یابد.
10Drive out the mocker, and strife will go out; yes, quarrels and insults will stop.
10شخص مسخره کننده را بیرون بینداز تا نزاع و مجادله و دشنام خاتمه یابد.
11He who loves purity of heart and speaks gracefully is the king’s friend.
11کسی که بخواهد قلبش پاک و کلامش دلنشین باشد، حتی پادشاه هم او را دوست خواهد داشت.
12The eyes of Yahweh watch over knowledge; but he frustrates the words of the unfaithful.
12خداوند حافظ راستی است و سخنان دروغ را باطل می سازد.
13The sluggard says, “There is a lion outside! I will be killed in the streets!”
13آدم تنبل در خانه می ماند و می گوید: «اگر بیرون بروم شیر مرا خواهد خورد.»
14The mouth of an adulteress is a deep pit: he who is under Yahweh’s wrath will fall into it.
14سخنان زن بدکار مانند یک دام خطرناک است و هر کسی که مورد غضب خداوند باشد در آن گرفتار می شود.
15Folly is bound up in the heart of a child: the rod of discipline drives it far from him.
15حماقت در وجود کودک نهفته است، اما تنبیه آن را از او بیرون می کند.
16Whoever oppresses the poor for his own increase and whoever gives to the rich, both come to poverty.
16کسی که بخاطر نفع خود به فقرا ظلم کند و به ثروتمندان هدیه بدهد، عاقبت گرفتار فقر خواهد شد.
17Turn your ear, and listen to the words of the wise. Apply your heart to my teaching.
17به این سخنان مردان حکیم که به تو یاد می دهم، گوش بده و با تمام وجود از آن ها پیروی کن،
18For it is a pleasant thing if you keep them within you, if all of them are ready on your lips.
18زیرا حفظ کردن آن ها در دل و جاری کردن آن ها بر زبان، کار پسندیده ای است.
19That your trust may be in Yahweh, I teach you today, even you.
19این سخنان را امروز به تو تعلیم می دهم تا بر خداوند اعتماد کنی.
20Haven’t I written to you thirty excellent things of counsel and knowledge,
20این سی کلام برگزیده را که پُر از پند و حکمت اند، برای تو نوشته ام
21To teach you truth, reliable words, to give sound answers to the ones who sent you?
21تا حقیقت را همان طوری که هست به تو یاد بدهم و تو نیز آن را به کسانی که از تو سؤال می کنند، جواب بدهی.
22Don’t exploit the poor, because he is poor; and don’t crush the needy in court;
22به شخص فقیری که حامی ندارد، ظلم نکن و حق بیچارگان را در محکمه پایمال نساز.
23for Yahweh will plead their case, and plunder the life of those who plunder them.
23زیرا خداوند به داد آن ها می رسد و کسانی را که به آن ها ظلم کرده اند، بسزای اعمال شان می رساند.
24Don’t befriend a hot-tempered man, and don’t associate with one who harbors anger:
24با اشخاص تُند خو که زود خشمگین می شوند معاشرت نکن،
25lest you learn his ways, and ensnare your soul.
25مبادا مثل آن ها شوی و زندگی خود را تباه کنی.
26Don’t you be one of those who strike hands, of those who are collateral for debts.
26ضامن کسی نشو و تعهد نکن که او قرض خود را ادا خواهد کرد،
27If you don’t have means to pay, why should he take away your bed from under you?
27زیرا اگر مجبور به پرداخت قرض او شوی و نتوانی آن را بپردازی رختخوابت را از زیر پایت بیرون می کشد.
28Don’t move the ancient boundary stone, which your fathers have set up.
28سرحد مُلک خود را که اجدادت از قدیم تعیین کرده اند، به نفع خود تغییر نده.اگر کسی در کار خود ماهر باشد، بدان که او جزو اشخاص گمنام نخواهد بود، بلکه در دربار پادشاهان راه خواهد یافت.
29Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will serve kings. He won’t serve obscure men.
