¹My son, if you have become collateral for your neighbor, if you have struck your hands in pledge for a stranger;

¹فرزندم، اگر از کسی ضمانت کنی و پرداخت قرض او را تعهد نمائی، در حالیکه او را نمی شناسی،

²You are trapped by the words of your mouth. You are ensnared with the words of your mouth.

²خود را واقعاً به زحمت انداخته ای. ممکن است با این کار برای خود دامی درست کرده باشی.

³Do this now, my son, and deliver yourself, since you have come into the hand of your neighbor. Go, humble yourself. Press your plea with your neighbor.

³پس عجله کن هر چه زودتر بدون خجالت خود را از این دام رها ساز، فوراً نزد او برو خواهش کن و ضمانت خود را پس بگیر.

⁴Give no sleep to your eyes, nor slumber to your eyelids.

⁴تا این کار را نکرده ای نخواب و حتی لحظه ای آرام ننشین.

⁵Free yourself, like a gazelle from the hand of the hunter, like a bird from the snare of the fowler.

⁵خود را مثل آهو از دست شکارچی و مثل پرنده از دام صیاد آزاد کن.

⁶Go to the ant, you sluggard. Consider her ways, and be wise;

⁶مردم تنبل بروند و از زندگی مورچه ها عبرت بگیرند.

⁷آن ها نه رهبر دارند و نه کارفرما.

⁸provides her bread in the summer, and gathers her food in the harvest.

⁸اما آذوقۀ زمستان خود را هنگام تابستان ذخیره می کنند.

⁹How long will you sleep, sluggard? When will you arise out of your sleep?

⁹مرد تنبل تا کی می خوابد و چه وقت از خواب بیدار خواهد شد؟

¹⁰A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

¹⁰او می گوید: «یک لحظۀ دیگر می خوابم و کمی استراحت می کنم!»

¹¹so your poverty will come as a robber, and your scarcity as an armed man.

¹¹اما وقتی که خواب است، فقر و هلاکت، مانند راهزن بر او حمله می کند.

¹²A worthless person, a man of iniquity, is he who walks with a perverse mouth;

¹²مردمان پست و بی ارزش همیشه و همه جا دروغ می گویند.

¹³who winks with his eyes, who signals with his feet, who motions with his fingers;

¹³با اشاره حرف می زنند و حرکات و اشاراتی می کنند که تو را فریب بدهند.

¹⁴in whose heart is perverseness, who devises evil continually, who always sows discord.

¹⁴همیشه فکر شان پُر از نقشه های پلید و زشت است تا دردسر ایجاد کنند.

¹⁵Therefore his calamity will come suddenly. He will be broken suddenly, and that without remedy.

¹⁵بهمین دلیل، بلا و مصیبت ناگهانی بر آن ها حمله می کند و آن ها را طوری شکست می دهد که دیگر چاره ای نداشته باشند.

¹⁶There are six things which Yahweh hates; yes, seven which are an abomination to him:

¹⁶شش، بلکه هفت چیز است که خداوند از آن ها نفرت دارد و نمی تواند تحمل کند: چشم متکبر، زبان دروغگو، دستی که خون بیگناهی را بریزد، فکری که نقشه های پلید بکشد، پایی که برای انجام کارهای زشت عجله کند، شاهدی که شهادت دروغ بدهد و کسی که بین برادران اختلاف بیندازد.

¹⁷haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood;

¹⁷هر چه پدرت می گوید انجام بده و آنچه مادرت می گوید فراموش مکن.

¹⁸a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are swift in running to mischief,

¹⁸سخنان آن ها را همیشه بخاطر داشته باش و آن ها را در قلبت حفظ کن.

¹⁹a false witness who utters lies, and he who sows discord among brothers.

¹⁹تعلیمات آن ها هنگام سفر راهنما، شبها محافظ و روزها مشاور تو خواهند بود.

²⁰My son, keep your father’s commandment, and don’t forsake your mother’s teaching.

²⁰اوامر آن ها مانند چراغی روشن است و سرزنش های آن ها طریق زندگی را به تو می آموزد.

²¹Bind them continually on your heart. Tie them around your neck.

²¹آن ها تو را از زنان بدکار و از سخنان فریبندۀ شان دور می کند.

²²When you walk, it will lead you. When you sleep, it will watch over you. When you awake, it will talk with you.

²²مواظب باش که زیبایی آن ها تو را تحریک ننماید و چشمان افسونگر شان تو را وسوسه نکند.

²³For the commandment is a lamp, and the law is light. Reproofs of instruction are the way of life,

²³زنا کردن با زن فاحشه انسان را به فقر و گرسنگی می کشاند، اما زنا کردن با زن شوهردار به قیمت هستی و زندگی انسان تمام می شود.

²⁴to keep you from the immoral woman, from the flattery of the wayward wife’s tongue.

²⁴آیا می توانی آتش را در آغوش بگیری و نسوزی؟

²⁵Don’t lust after her beauty in your heart, neither let her captivate you with her eyelids.

²⁵آیا کسی می تواند روی آتش راه برود و پایش نسوزد؟

²⁶For a prostitute reduces you to a piece of bread. The adulteress hunts for your precious life.

²⁶همینطور کسی که با زن شوهردار همبستر شود، از مجازات در امان نخواهد بود.

²⁷Can a man scoop fire into his lap, and his clothes not be burned?

²⁷مردم، کسی را که بخاطر گرسنگی دزدی کرده است، سرزنش نمی کنند،

²⁸Or can one walk on hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?

²⁸اما اگر دستگیر شود باید هفت برابر آنچه دزدیده جریمه بدهد ـ باید هر چه دارد بدهد.

²⁹So is he who goes in to his neighbor’s wife. Whoever touches her will not be unpunished.

²⁹اما مردی که با زن شوهردار زنا می کند، کاملاً پست و احمق است. زیرا او جان خود را از بین می برد.

³⁰Men don’t despise a thief, if he steals to satisfy himself when he is hungry:

³⁰رسوایی و بدنامی نصیب او خواهد شد و ننگ او از بین نخواهد رفت.

³¹but if he is found, he shall restore seven times. He shall give all the wealth of his house.

³¹زیرا حسادت، خشم شوهر آن زن را بر می انگیزد و در موقع انتقام هیچ رحم و شفقتی نخواهد کرد.هیچ چیز او را راضی نمی کند و به هیچ قیمتی نمی توانی رضایت او را به دست آوری.

³²He who commits adultery with a woman is void of understanding. He who does it destroys his own soul.

³²هیچ چیز او را راضی نمی کند و به هیچ قیمتی نمی توانی رضایت او را به دست آوری.

³³He will get wounds and dishonor. His reproach will not be wiped away.

³⁴For jealousy arouses the fury of the husband. He won’t spare in the day of vengeance.

³⁵He won’t regard any ransom, neither will he rest content, though you give many gifts.
