¹He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

¹Den som sitter i den Høiestes skjul, som bor i den Allmektiges skygge,

²I will say of Yahweh, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.”

²han sier til Herren: Min tilflukt og min borg, min Gud som jeg setter min lit til!

³For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly pestilence.

³For han frir dig av fuglefangerens snare, fra ødeleggende pest.

⁴He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart.

⁴Med sine vingefjærer dekker han dig, og under hans vinger finner du ly; hans trofasthet er skjold og vern.

⁵You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day;

⁵Du skal ikke frykte for nattens redsler, for pil som flyver om dagen,

⁶nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that wastes at noonday.

⁶for pest som farer frem i mørket, for sott som ødelegger om middagen.

⁷A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it will not come near you.

⁷Faller tusen ved din side og ti tusen ved din høire hånd, til dig skal det ikke nå.

⁸You will only look with your eyes, and see the recompense of the wicked.

⁸Du skal bare skue det med dine øine, og se hvorledes de ugudelige får sin lønn.

⁹Because you have made Yahweh your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place,

⁹For du, Herre, er min tilflukt. Den Høieste har du gjort til din bolig;

¹⁰no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.

¹⁰intet ondt skal vederfares dig, og ingen plage skal komme nær til ditt telt.

¹¹For he will put his angels in charge of you, to guard you in all your ways.

¹¹For han skal gi sine engler befaling om dig at de skal bevare dig på alle dine veier.

¹²They will bear you up in their hands, so that you won’t dash your foot against a stone.

¹²De skal bære dig på hendene, forat du ikke skal støte din fot på nogen sten.

¹³You will tread on the lion and cobra. You will trample the young lion and the serpent underfoot.

¹³På løve og huggorm skal du trå; du skal trå ned unge løver og slanger.

¹⁴“Because he has set his love on me, therefore I will deliver him. I will set him on high, because he has known my name.

¹⁴For han henger fast ved mig, og jeg vil utfri ham; jeg vil føre ham i sikkerhet, for han kjenner mitt navn.

¹⁵He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him.

¹⁵Han skal påkalle mig, og jeg vil svare ham; jeg er med ham i nøden, jeg vil utfri ham og føre ham til ære.

¹⁶I will satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation.”

¹⁶Med et langt liv vil jeg mette ham og la ham skue min frelse.
