¹Now it fell on a day, that Jonathan the son of Saul said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, and let us go over to the Philistines’ garrison, that is on the other side.” But he didn’t tell his father.

¹ یک روز یوناتان به جوانی که اسلحه او را حمل می‌کرد گفت: «بیا تا به اردوگاه فلسطینیان که در آن طرف است برویم.» او این امر را به پدر خود اطّلاع نداد.

²Saul stayed in the uttermost part of Gibeah under the pomegranate tree which is in Migron: and the people who were with him were about six hundred men;

² شائول با ششصد نفر از سربازان خود در نزدیکی جبعه در مغرون، زیر یک درخت انار اردو زده بود.

³and Ahijah, the son of Ahitub, Ichabod’s brother, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of Yahweh in Shiloh, wearing an ephod. The people didn’t know that Jonathan was gone.

³ در بین مردان او اخیای کاهن حضور داشت. (اخیا برادر ایخابود، پسر فینحاس و نوهٔ عیلی) وی کاهن خداوند در شیلوه بود. او جامهٔ مخصوص کاهنان را دربر داشت. مردم نمی‌دانستند که یوناتان آنجا را ترک کرده است.

⁴Between the passes, by which Jonathan sought to go over to the Philistines’ garrison, there was a rocky crag on the one side, and a rocky crag on the other side: and the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

⁴ یوناتان برای اینکه به استحکامات نظامی فلسطینیان برسد می‌بایست از گذرگاه باریکی که بین دو صخرهٔ تیز به نامهای بوصیص و سِنَّه بود، بگذرد.

⁵The one crag rose up on the north in front of Michmash, and the other on the south in front of Geba.

⁵ یکی از آن دو صخره به طرف شمال، مقابل مخماس و دیگری به طرف جنوب مقابل جبعه قرار داشت.

⁶Jonathan said to the young man who bore his armor, “Come, and let us go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that Yahweh will work for us; for there is no restraint on Yahweh to save by many or by few.”

⁶ یوناتان به جوان همراه خود گفت: «بیا تا به اردوگاه فلسطینیان کافر برویم. امید است که خداوند به ما کمک بکند، زیرا تعداد دشمن چه کم باشد، چه زیاد، در برابر قدرت خداوند ناچیز است.»

⁷His armor bearer said to him, “Do all that is in your heart. Turn and, behold, I am with you according to your heart.”

⁷ جوان همراهش گفت: «هرچه صلاح می‌دانی بکن، من با نظر تو موافقم.»

⁸Then Jonathan said, “Behold, we will pass over to the men, and we will reveal ourselves to them.

⁸ یوناتان گفت: «پس بیا به آنجا برویم. ما خود را به آنها نشان می‌دهیم.

⁹If they say thus to us, ‘Wait until we come to you!’ then we will stand still in our place, and will not go up to them.

⁹ اگر گفتند: 'حرکت نکنید تا ما پیش شما بیاییم،' ما در جای خود می‌ایستیم و پیش آنها نمی‌رویم.

¹⁰But if they say this, ‘Come up to us!’ then we will go up; for Yahweh has delivered them into our hand. This shall be the sign to us.”

¹⁰ امّا اگر گفتند که پیش آنها برویم، در آن صورت می‌رویم، زیرا این نشانهٔ آن است که خداوند آنها را به دست ما تسلیم می‌کند.»

¹¹Both of them revealed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, “Behold, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they had hidden themselves!”

¹¹ پس آنها خود را به سپاهیان فلسطینیان نشان دادند و فلسطینیان گفتند: «عبرانیان را ببینید که از غارهایی که در آنها پنهان شده بودند، بیرون آمده‌اند.»

¹²The men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armor bearer, and said, “Come up to us, and we will show you something!” Jonathan said to his armor bearer, “Come up after me; for Yahweh has delivered them into the hand of Israel.”

¹² آنها یوناتان و جوان همراهش را صدا کرده گفتند: «اینجا بیایید تا چیزی را به شما نشان بدهیم.» یوناتان به جوان همراه خود گفت: «پشت سر من بیا، خداوند آنها را به دست ما تسلیم می‌کند.»

¹³Jonathan climbed up on his hands and on his feet, and his armor bearer after him: and they fell before Jonathan; and his armor bearer killed them after him.

¹³ یوناتان به حالت سینه‌خیز درحالی‌که همراهش پشت سرش می‌آمد، پیش آنها بالا رفت و به فلسطینیان حمله کرد. یوناتان آنها را به زمین می‌انداخت و جوان همراهش که پشت سرش بود، آنها را می‌کشت.

¹⁴That first slaughter, which Jonathan and his armor bearer made, was about twenty men, within as it were half a furrow’s length in an acre of land.

¹⁴ در همان حملهٔ اول، یوناتان و همراهش در حدود بیست نفر آنها را در یک جریب زمین هلاک کردند.

¹⁵There was a trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people; the garrison, and the spoilers, they also trembled; and the earth quaked: so there was an exceeding great trembling.

¹⁵ تمام فلسطینیان چه در اردوگاه و چه در بیرون و حتّی سربازان از ترس به لرزه افتادند. در آن هنگام زلزلهٔ شدیدی رخ داد و آنها را بیشتر به وحشت انداخت.

¹⁶The watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin looked; and behold, the multitude melted away, and scattered.

¹⁶ نگهبانان شائول در جبعهٔ بنیامین دیدند که سپاه عظیم فلسطینیان سراسیمه به هر طرف می‌دوند.

¹⁷Then Saul said to the people who were with him, “Count now, and see who is missing from us.” When they had counted, behold, Jonathan and his armor bearer were not there.

¹⁷ آنگاه شائول به همراهان خود گفت: «ببینید چه کسانی غایب هستند.» وقتی جستجو کردند دیدند که یوناتان و کسی‌که اسلحهٔ او را حمل می‌کرد حاضر نبودند.

¹⁸Saul said to Ahijah, “Bring the ark of God here.” For the ark of God was with the children of Israel at that time.

¹⁸ پس شائول به اخیا گفت که صندوق پیمان خداوند را پیش او بیاورد. چون صندوق خداوند در آن وقت پیش قوم اسرائیل بود.

¹⁹It happened, while Saul talked to the priest, that the tumult that was in the camp of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said to the priest, “Withdraw your hand!”

¹⁹ هنگامی که شائول با کاهن حرف می‌زد، شورش در اردوی فلسطینیان شدیدتر شد و شائول به کاهن گفت: «صبر کن!»

²⁰Saul and all the people who were with him were gathered together, and came to the battle: and behold, every man’s sword was against his fellow: a very great confusion.

²⁰ پس شائول و همراهانش همگی برای جنگ رفتند و دیدند که فلسطینیان برضد یکدیگر شمشیر کشیده، خودشان یکدیگر را می‌کشند.

²¹Now the Hebrews who were with the Philistines as before, and who went up with them into the camp, from all around, even they also turned to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.

²¹ آن عدّه از عبرانیانی که قبلاً در اردوی فلسطینیان بودند به طرفداری از مردم اسرائیل که با شائول و یوناتان بودند علیه فلسطینیان داخل جنگ شدند.

²²Likewise all the men of Israel who had hidden themselves in the hill country of Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed hard after them in the battle.

²² همچنین اسرائیلیانی که در کوهستان افرایم خود را پنهان کرده بودند وقتی خبر فرار فلسطینیان را شنیدند به جنگ دشمن رفتند.

²³So Yahweh saved Israel that day: and the battle passed over by Beth Aven.

²³ خداوند در آن روز قوم اسرائیل را پیروز ساخت و جنگ از حدود بیت‌آون هم گذشت.

²⁴The men of Israel were distressed that day; for Saul had adjured the people, saying, “Cursed is the man who eats any food until it is evening, and I am avenged of my enemies.” So none of the people tasted food.

²⁴ اسرائیلی‌ها در آن روز از گرسنگی ناتوان شده بودند؛ زیرا شائول گفته بود: «تا من انتقام خود را از دشمنان نگیرم، نباید کسی دست به غذا بزند و اگر کسی این کار را بکند، لعنت بر او باد!» بنابراین آن روز هیچ‌کسی غذا نخورده بود.

²⁵All the people came into the forest; and there was honey on the ground.

²⁵ مردم به جنگلی رسیدند و دیدند که عسل بروی زمین جاری است

²⁶When the people had come to the forest, behold, the honey dropped: but no man put his hand to his mouth; for the people feared the oath.

²⁶ و در همه‌جای جنگل عسل به فراوانی پیدا می‌شد، ولی از ترس سوگندی که شائول خورده بود، کسی به آن دست نزد.

²⁷But Jonathan didn’t hear when his father commanded the people with the oath: therefore he put forth the end of the rod who was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and put his hand to his mouth; and his eyes were enlightened.

²⁷ امّا یوناتان چون از فرمان پدر خود بی‌اطّلاع بود، نوک عصایی را که در دست داشت داخل کندوی عسل کرده آن را خورد و حالش بهتر شد.

²⁸Then one of the people answered, and said, “Your father directly commanded the people with an oath, saying, ‘Cursed is the man who eats food this day.’” The people were faint.

²⁸ یکی از حاضرین به او گفت: «ما همگی از گرسنگی بی‌حال هستیم، چون پدرت گفته است: 'لعنت بر آن کسی‌که امروز چیزی بخورد.'»

²⁹Then Jonathan said, “My father has troubled the land. Please look how my eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.

²⁹ یوناتان جواب داد: «پدرم بیهوده مردم را زحمت می‌دهد. می‌بینی که فقط با چشیدن یک ذره عسل چقدر حالم بهتر شد.

³⁰How much more, if perhaps the people had eaten freely today of the spoil of their enemies which they found? For now has there been no great slaughter among the Philistines.”

³⁰ بهتر بود اگر پدرم به مردم اجازه می‌داد تا از غذایی که از دشمنان به دست آورده‌اند بخورند، آنگاه می‌توانستند تعداد زیادتری از فلسطینیان را بکشند.»

³¹They struck of the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. The people were very faint;

³¹ آن روز مردم اسرائیل فلسطینیان را از مخماس تا ایلون تعقیب کرده می‌کشتند و در اثر گرسنگی ضعیف شده بودند.

³²and the people flew on the spoil, and took sheep, and cattle, and calves, and killed them on the ground; and the people ate them with the blood.

³² پس به حیواناتی که به غنیمت گرفته بودند حمله کرده گاوها و گوسفندان را سر می‌بریدند و گوشت آنها را با خون می‌خوردند.

³³Then they told Saul, saying, “Behold, the people are sinning against Yahweh, in that they eat meat with the blood.” He said, “You have dealt treacherously. Roll a large stone to me this day!”

³³ کسی به شائول خبر داده گفت: «مردم با خوردن خون در مقابل خداوند گناه می‌کنند.» شائول گفت: «شما خیانت کرده‌‌‌اید. حالا یک سنگ بزرگ را پیش من بغلطانید

³⁴Saul said, “Disperse yourselves among the people, and tell them, ‘Bring me here every man his ox, and every man his sheep, and kill them here, and eat; and don’t sin against Yahweh in eating meat with the blood.’” All the people brought every man his ox with him that night, and killed them there.

³⁴ و بعد بروید و به مردم بگویید که گاوان و گوسفندان را به اینجا بیاورند و بکشند و بخورند و با خوردن خون، پیش خداوند گناه نکنند.» پس همه در آن شب گاوان را آورده در آنجا کشتند.

³⁵Saul built an altar to Yahweh. This was the first altar that he built to Yahweh.

³⁵ شائول برای خداوند قربانگاهی ساخت و آن اولین قربانگاهی بود که برای خداوند بنا کرد.

³⁶Saul said, “Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and take spoil among them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them.” They said, “Do whatever seems good to you.” Then the priest said, “Let us draw near here to God.”

³⁶ سپس شائول گفت: «بیایید بر فلسطینیان شبیخون بزنیم و تا صبح هیچ‌کدام آنها را زنده نگذاریم.» مردم گفتند: «هرچه صلاح می‌دانی بکن.» امّا کاهن گفت: «اول با خدا مشورت کنیم.»

³⁷Saul asked counsel of God, “Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?” But he didn’t answer him that day.

³⁷ شائول از خدا پرسید: «آیا به تعقیب فلسطینیان برویم؟ آیا به ما کمک می‌کنی که آنها را مغلوب سازیم؟» امّا خدا در آن شب به او جوابی نداد.

³⁸Saul said, “Draw near here, all you chiefs of the people; and know and see in which this sin has been this day.

³⁸ بعد شائول به رهبران قوم گفت: «باید معلوم کنیم که چه کسی از ما مرتکب گناه شده است.

³⁹For, as Yahweh lives, who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die.” But there was not a man among all the people who answered him.

³⁹ به نام خداوند که آزادی بخش اسرائیل است قسم می‌خوردم که گناهکار باید کشته شود، حتّی اگر پسرم یوناتان باشد.» امّا کسی چیزی نگفت.

⁴⁰Then he said to all Israel, “You be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side.” The people said to Saul, “Do what seems good to you.”

⁴⁰ آنگاه شائول به قوم اسرائیل گفت: «همهٔ شما آن طرف بایستید و یوناتان و من این طرف می‌ایستیم.» مردم جواب دادند: «تو هرچه که بهتر است انجام بده.»

⁴¹Therefore Saul said to Yahweh, the God of Israel, “Show the right.” Jonathan and Saul were chosen; but the people escaped.

⁴¹ شائول با دعا به خداوند گفت: «خداوندا، ای خدای اسرائیل، چرا به سؤال این بنده‌ات جوابی ندادی؟ آیا من و یوناتان گناهی کرده‌ایم یا گناه به گردن دیگران است؟ خداوندا، گناهکار را به ما نشان بده.» سپس قرعه انداختند، قرعه به نام شائول و یوناتان درآمد.

⁴²Saul said, “Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son.” Jonathan was selected.

⁴² طبق دستور شائول، بین خود او و یوناتان قرعه انداختند. این بار قرعه به نام یوناتان درآمد.

⁴³Then Saul said to Jonathan, “Tell me what you have done!” Jonathan told him, and said, “I certainly did taste a little honey with the end of the rod that was in my hand; and behold, I must die.”

⁴³ آنگاه شائول به یوناتان گفت: «راست بگو چه کرده‌ای؟» یوناتان جواب داد: «کمی عسل را با نوک عصای دست خود گرفته خوردم. برای مردن حاضرم.»

⁴⁴Saul said, “God do so and more also; for you shall surely die, Jonathan.”

⁴⁴ شائول گفت: «بلی، تو حتماً باید کشته شوی. خدا مرا بکشد، اگر تو کشته نشوی.»

⁴⁵The people said to Saul, “Shall Jonathan die, who has worked this great salvation in Israel? Far from it! As Yahweh lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has worked with God this day!” So the people rescued Jonathan, that he didn’t die.

⁴⁵ ولی سربازان به شائول گفتند: «امروز یوناتان قوم اسرائیل را نجات داد. غیر ممکن است که او کشته شود. به نام خداوند قسم نمی‌گذاریم حتّی یک تار موی او هم کم شود، زیرا امروز به وسیلهٔ او بود که خداوند معجزهٔ بزرگی نشان داد.» به این ترتیب مردم شفاعت کرده یوناتان را از مرگ نجات دادند.

⁴⁶Then Saul went up from following the Philistines; and the Philistines went to their own place.

⁴⁶ بعد شائول، فرمان بازگشت سپاه خود را صادر کرد و فلسطینیان هم به وطن خود برگشتند.

⁴⁷Now when Saul had taken the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the children of Ammon, and against Edom, and against the kings of Zobah, and against the Philistines: and wherever he turned himself, he defeated them.

⁴⁷ وقتی شائول پادشاه اسرائیل شد، با همهٔ دشمنان، از قبیل موآبیان، عمونیان، اَدومیان، پادشاهان صوبه و فلسطینیان جنگید و در همهٔ جنگها پیروز شد.

⁴⁸He did valiantly, and struck the Amalekites, and delivered Israel out of the hands of those who despoiled them.

⁴⁸ او با شجاعت تمام عمالیقیان را شکست داد و قوم اسرائیل را از دست دشمنان نجات داد.

⁴⁹Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Ishvi, and Malchishua; and the names of his two daughters were these: the name of the firstborn Merab, and the name of the younger Michal:

⁴⁹ شائول سه پسر داشت به نامهای یوناتان، یشوی و ملکیشوع. او همچنین دارای دو دختر بود. دختر بزرگش میرب و دختر کوچکش میکال نام داشت.

⁵⁰and the name of Saul’s wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the captain of his army was Abner the son of Ner, Saul’s uncle.

⁵⁰ زن شائول، اخینوعام دختر اخیمعاص بود و فرماندهٔ ارتش او، ابنیر پسر نیر عموی شائول بود.

⁵¹Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.

⁵¹ قیس پدر شائول و نیر پدر ابنیر و پسران ابیئیل بودند. در تمام دوران سلطنت شائول، اسرائیل و فلسطینیان همیشه در جنگ بودند و شائول هر شخص نیرومند و شجاعی را که می‌دید، به خدمت سپاه خود در می‌آورد.

⁵²There was severe war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any mighty man, or any valiant man, he took him to him.

⁵² در تمام دوران سلطنت شائول، اسرائیل و فلسطینیان همیشه در جنگ بودند و شائول هر شخص نیرومند و شجاعی را که می‌دید، به خدمت سپاه خود در می‌آورد.
