¹Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign; and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem.

¹ یوشیا هشت ساله بود که پادشاه شد و مدّت سی و یک سال در اورشلیم پادشاهی کرد.

²He did that which was right in the eyes of Yahweh, and walked in the ways of David his father, and didn’t turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

² او آنچه را که از نظر خداوند درست بود، انجام داد و در راه جدّ خود، داوود گام برداشت و فرمانهای خداوند را بجا آورد.

³For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places, and the Asherim, and the engraved images, and the molten images.

³ در سال هشتم سلطنت خود، درحالی‌که هنوز جوان بود، به پرستش خدای جدّ خود، داوود پرداخت، چهار سال بعد پرستشگاههای بالای تپّه‌ها و الهه‌های اشره و همهٔ بُتهای دیگر را درهم شکست.

⁴They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence; and the incense altars that were on high above them he cut down; and the Asherim, and the engraved images, and the molten images, he broke in pieces, and made dust of them, and strewed it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.

⁴ در حضور او، قربانگاه بت بعل را سرنگون کردند. او قربانگاه بُخوری را که بالای آنها قرار داشت، درهم شکست. او الهه‌های اشره را شکست و پراکنده ساخت و بُتهای فلزی و کنده‌کاری شده را به خاک تبدیل کرد و خاک آنها را بر گور کسانی‌که برای آنها قربانی می‌کردند پاشید.

⁵He burnt the bones of the priests on their altars, and purged Judah and Jerusalem.

⁵ او همچنین استخوان کاهنان بُتها را در روی قربانگاههای ایشان سوزاند و یهودا و اورشلیم را پاكسازی کرد.

⁶He did this in the cities of Manasseh and Ephraim and Simeon, even to Naphtali, around in their ruins.

⁶ در شهرهای منسی، افرایم و شمعون، تا نفتالی و خرابه‌های اطراف آنها او قربانگاهها را درهم شکست و الههٔ اشره و دیگر بُتها را با خاک یکسان کرد و در سراسر سرزمین اسرائیل قربانگاههای بُخور را ویران کرد. آنگاه به اورشلیم بازگشت.

⁷He broke down the altars, and beat the Asherim and the engraved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, and returned to Jerusalem.

⁷ یوشیا در سال هجدهم سلطنت خود، پس از پاکسازی معبد بزرگ و سرزمین، شافان پسر اصلیا، معسیا، فرماندار شهر اورشلیم و یوآخ پسر یوآحاز خبرنگار را فرستاد تا معبد بزرگ، خدای خود را بازسازی کنند.

⁸Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah the son of Joahaz the recorder, to repair the house of Yahweh his God.

⁸ ایشان نزد حلقیای کاهن اعظم آمدند و پولی را که لاویانِ دروازه‌بان از مردم منسی، افرایم و سایر مردم اسرائیل و از تمام یهودا، بنیامین و ساکنان اورشلیم جمع کرده و به معبد بزرگ آورده بودند، به او دادند.

⁹They came to Hilkiah the high priest, and delivered the money that was brought into God’s house, which the Levites, the keepers of the threshold, had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, and of all the remnant of Israel, and of all Judah and Benjamin, and of the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

⁹ ایشان پول را به ناظران بازسازی و کارگرانی که معبد بزرگ را تعمیر می‌کردند، سپردند

¹⁰They delivered it into the hand of the workmen who had the oversight of the house of Yahweh; and the workmen who labored in the house of Yahweh gave it to mend and repair the house;

¹⁰ تا با آن دستمزد نجّاران، معماران و بهای سنگهای تراشیده شده و الوار برای ساختن ساختمانهایی که به‌خاطر بی‌توجّهی پادشاهان یهود رو به ویرانی بود را بپردازند.

¹¹even to the carpenters and to the builders gave they it, to buy cut stone, and timber for couplings, and to make beams for the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.

¹¹ مردان کارگر وفادارانه کار می‌کردند. ایشان زیر نظر چهار نفر از لاویان به نامهای یَحَت و عوبدیا از لاویان خانوادهٔ مراری، زکریا و مشلام از خانوادهٔ قهات، همراه با لاویانی که در نواختن آلات موسیقی مهارت داشتند، انجام وظیفه می‌کردند.

¹²The men did the work faithfully: and their overseers were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to set it forward; and others of the Levites, all who were skillful with instruments of music.

¹² ایشان کارِ باربران و دیگر کارگران را سرپرستی می‌کردند و گروهی از لاویان هم در خدمت نویسندگی و دروازه‌بانی، انجام وظیفه می‌کردند.

¹³Also they were over the bearers of burdens, and set forward all who did the work in every kind of service: and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters.

¹³ هنگامی‌که پولی را که به معبد بزرگ آورده بودند، بیرون می‌آوردند، حلقیای کاهن، کتاب قوانین خداوند را که توسط موسی داده شده بود، پیدا کرد

¹⁴When they brought out the money that was brought into the house of Yahweh, Hilkiah the priest found the book of the law of Yahweh given by Moses.

¹⁴ و به شافان، منشی دربار گفت: «من کتاب قوانین را در معبد بزرگ پیدا کرده‌ام.» و کتاب را به او داد.

¹⁵Hilkiah answered Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the book of the law in the house of Yahweh.” Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.

¹⁵ شافان کتاب را نزد پادشاه آورد و گزارش داد: «آنچه را که به عهدهٔ مأمورانت گذاشتی، دارند انجام می‌دهند.

¹⁶Shaphan carried the book to the king, and moreover brought back word to the king, saying, “All that was committed to your servants, they are doing.

¹⁶ ایشان پولی را که در معبد بزرگ بود، به کارفرمایان و کارگران داده‌اند.»

¹⁷They have emptied out the money that was found in the house of Yahweh, and have delivered it into the hand of the overseers, and into the hand of the workmen.”

¹⁷ شافان همچنین به پادشاه اطّلاع داد: «حلقیای کاهن کتابی به من داده است.» آنگاه شافان از آن کتاب برای پادشاه خواند.

¹⁸Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has delivered me a book.” Shaphan read therein before the king.

¹⁸ هنگامی‌که پادشاه کلمات تورات را شنید، جامهٔ خود را درید

¹⁹It happened, when the king had heard the words of the law, that he tore his clothes.

¹⁹ و به حلقیا، اخیقام پسر شافان، عبدون پسر میکا، شافان منشی دربار و عسایا، خادم پادشاه چنین امر کرد:

²⁰The king commanded Hilkiah, and Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Abdon the son of Micah, and Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah the king’s servant, saying,

²⁰ «بروید و از طرف من و سایر مردمی که هنوز در اسرائیل و یهودا هستند از خداوند دربارهٔ آموزشهای این کتابی که پیدا شده، هدایت بخواهید، چون خشم خداوند که بر ما فرود آمده، بزرگ است، زیرا نیاکان ما کلام خداوند را بجا نیاوردند و مطابق نوشته‌های این کتاب عمل نکردند.»

²¹“Go inquire of Yahweh for me, and for those who are left in Israel and in Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is the wrath of Yahweh that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of Yahweh, to do according to all that is written in this book.”

²¹ پس حلقیا و کسان دیگر نزد حُلده نبی، که زن شلوم بود رفتند. (شلوم پسر توقهت و نوهٔ حسره، مسئول لباسهای معبد بزرگ بود.) او در قسمت جدید اورشلیم می‌زیست. ایشان در این مورد با او سخن گفتند.

²²So Hilkiah, and they whom the king had commanded, went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tokhath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe; (now she lived in Jerusalem in the second quarter;) and they spoke to her to that effect.

²² او اعلام کرد: «خداوند، خدای اسرائیل چنین می‌فرماید: بروید و به کسی‌که شما را فرستاده است بگویید،

²³She said to them, “Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: ‘Tell the man who sent you to me,

²³ براستی که بر این سرزمین و ساکنان آن بلایا و تمام نفرین‌هایی را که در این کتاب نوشته شده و در حضور پادشاه یهودا خوانده شده، خواهم آورد.

²⁴“Thus says Yahweh, ‘Behold, I will bring evil on this place, and on its inhabitants, even all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah.

²⁴ زیرا ایشان مرا ترک کرده‌اند و برای خدایان دیگر قربانی می‌کنند، خشم مرا با کردار دستهای خود برانگیخته‌اند. خشم من بر این سرزمین خواهد ریخت و سیراب نخواهد شد.

²⁵Because they have forsaken me, and have burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore is my wrath poured out on this place, and it shall not be quenched.’”’

²⁵ امّا در مورد پادشاه به او بگویید خداوند، خدای اسرائیل چنین می‌فرماید: تو به آنچه در کتاب نوشته شده است، گوش فرا دادی،

²⁶But to the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of Yahweh, thus you shall tell him, ‘Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel: “As touching the words which you have heard,

²⁶ و توبه کردی، و خود را در برابر من فروتن کردی، جامهٔ خود را دریدی و هنگامی‌که تهدیدهای مرا در مورد اورشلیم و ساکنان آن شنیدی، گریستی، من نیایش تو را شنیده‌ام

²⁷because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God, when you heard his words against this place, and against its inhabitants, and have humbled yourself before me, and have torn your clothes, and wept before me; I also have heard you,” says Yahweh.

²⁷ و مجازات اورشلیم بعد از مرگ تو رخ خواهد داد. تو در آسودگی خواهی مرد.» پس ایشان جواب نبیّه را به پادشاه رساندند.

²⁸“Behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace, neither shall your eyes see all the evil that I will bring on this place, and on its inhabitants.”’” They brought back word to the king.

²⁸ آنگاه پادشاه برای رهبران یهودا و اورشلیم پیام فرستاد تا گرد هم آیند.

²⁹Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

²⁹ پادشاه با همهٔ مردم یهودا و ساکنان اورشلیم، کاهنان، لاویان، کوچک و بزرگ به معبد بزرگ رفت. او تمام کتاب پیمان را که در معبد بزرگ یافته بود، برای مردم خواند.

³⁰The king went up to the house of Yahweh, and all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and the priests, and the Levites, and all the people, both great and small: and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of Yahweh.

³⁰ پادشاه در مکان خود ایستاد و در برابر خداوند پیمان بست تا از خداوند پیروی کند، فرمانهای او را بجا آورد و قوانین و احکام او و پیمانی را که در کتاب نوشته شده بود، با تمامی دل و جان بجا آورد.

³¹The king stood in his place, and made a covenant before Yahweh, to walk after Yahweh, and to keep his commandments, and his testimonies, and his statutes, with all his heart, and with all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.

³¹ او مردم بنیامین و هرکسی را که در اورشلیم بود، مجبور کرد تا سوگند بخورند که پیمان را نگه دارند، و مردم اورشلیم از ضوابطی که در پیمان ایشان با خدای نیاکان خویش داشتند، پیروی کردند. یوشیای پادشاه تمام بُتهای نفرت‌انگیز را که در سرزمینهای مردم اسرائیل بود برداشت و همهٔ کسانی را که در اسرائیل بودند، مجبور کرد تا خداوند، خدای خود را پرستش کنند و تا زمانی که زنده بود، مردم را واداشت تا خداوند، خدای نیاکانشان را خدمت کنند.

³²He caused all who were found in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand. The inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

³² یوشیای پادشاه تمام بُتهای نفرت‌انگیز را که در سرزمینهای مردم اسرائیل بود برداشت و همهٔ کسانی را که در اسرائیل بودند، مجبور کرد تا خداوند، خدای خود را پرستش کنند و تا زمانی که زنده بود، مردم را واداشت تا خداوند، خدای نیاکانشان را خدمت کنند.

³³Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the countries that pertained to the children of Israel, and made all who were found in Israel to serve, even to serve Yahweh their God. All his days they didn’t depart from following Yahweh, the God of their fathers.
