¹Now there was a certain man in Caesarea, Cornelius by name, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment,

¹ در شهر قیصریه سروانی به نام كرنیلیوس زندگی می‌کرد كه جزو یک هنگ رومی به نام هنگ ایتالیایی بود.

²a devout man, and one who feared God with all his house, who gave gifts for the needy generously to the people, and always prayed to God.

² او مردی بود، پرهیزكار و خانواده‌ای خدا‌ترس داشت و پیوسته به درگاه خدا دعا می‌کرد و به بینوایان اسرائیلی صدقه بسیار می‌داد.

³At about the ninth hour of the day 3:00 PM , he clearly saw in a vision an angel of God coming to him, and saying to him, “Cornelius!”

³ این مرد یک روز در حدود ساعت سه بعد از ظهر فرشتهٔ خدا را آشکارا در رؤیا دید، كه پیش او آمده گفت: «ای كرنیلیوس»

⁴He, fastening his eyes on him, and being frightened, said, “What is it, Lord?” He said to him, “Your prayers and your gifts to the needy have gone up for a memorial before God.

⁴ كرنیلیوس با وحشت به او چشم دوخت و پاسخ داد: «خداوندا چه می‌فرمایی؟» فرشته گفت: «بدان كه دعاها و همهٔ صدقات تو در بالا در پیشگاه خدا مورد قبول و یادآوری واقع شده‌اند.

⁵Now send men to Joppa, and get Simon, who is surnamed Peter.

⁵ اكنون افرادی را به یافا بفرست و سراغ شمعون ملقّب به پطرس را بگیر.

⁶He lodges with one Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the seaside. TR adds “This one will tell you what it is necessary for you to do.” ”

⁶ او نزد شمعون دباغ كه خانه‌اش در ساحل دریاست مهمان است.»

⁷When the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier of those who waited on him continually.

⁷ همین‌که فرشته‌ای كه با او صحبت می‌کرد ناپدید شد، كرنیلیوس دو نفر از نوكران خود و یک سرباز دیندار را كه در خدمت او بود، احضار كرد و

⁸Having explained everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.

⁸ موضوع را تماماً برای ایشان شرح داد و ایشان را به یافا فرستاد.

⁹Now on the next day as they were on their journey, and got close to the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray at about noon.

⁹ روز بعد كه آنان در راه بودند و تا شهر فاصله كمی داشتند، پطرس نزدیک ظهر برای دعا به بالای بام رفت.

¹⁰He became hungry and desired to eat, but while they were preparing, he fell into a trance.

¹⁰ در آنجا گرسنه شد و خواست چیزی بخورد. امّا وقتی‌که برایش غذا آماده می‌کردند، حالت جذبه‌ای به او دست داد

¹¹He saw heaven opened and a certain container descending to him, like a great sheet let down by four corners on the earth,

¹¹ و در آن حال آسمان را گشوده و چیزی مانند یک سفره بزرگ دید، كه از چهارگوشه آویزان شده بود و رو به پایین به طرف زمین می‌آمد.

¹²in which were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, reptiles, and birds of the sky.

¹² در آن انواع چارپایان و خزندگان و پرندگان وجود داشت.

¹³A voice came to him, “Rise, Peter, kill and eat!”

¹³ صدایی به گوشش رسید كه می‌گفت: «ای پطرس، برخیز، سر ببر و بخور.»

¹⁴But Peter said, “Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten anything that is common or unclean.”

¹⁴ پطرس در پاسخ گفت: «خیر ای خداوند، زیرا من هرگز به چیزهای ناپاک و حرام لب نزده‌ام.»

¹⁵A voice came to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed, you must not call unclean.”

¹⁵ بار دوم همان صدا آمد كه: «آنچه را خدا حلال كرده است تو نباید حرام بپنداری.»

¹⁶This was done three times, and immediately the vessel was received up into heaven.

¹⁶ این موضوع سه بار تكرار شد و سرانجام آن سفره به آسمان برده شد.

¹⁷Now while Peter was very perplexed in himself what the vision which he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon’s house, stood before the gate,

¹⁷ در همان وقت كه پطرس از تفسیر رؤیای خود درمانده بود و سعی می‌کرد آن را برای خود تجزیه و تحلیل نماید، فرستادگان كرنیلیوس جستجوكنان به در خانهٔ شمعون رسیدند.

¹⁸and called and asked whether Simon, who was surnamed Peter, was lodging there.

¹⁸ و فریاد می‌زدند و می‌پرسیدند: «آیا شمعون ملقّب به پطرس در اینجا مهمان است؟»

¹⁹While Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three Reading from TR and NU. MT omits “three” men seek you.

¹⁹ در حالی‌كه پطرس دربارهٔ این رؤیا تفكّر می‌کرد، روح خدا به او گفت: «نگاه كن، چند نفر به سراغ تو آمده‌اند.

²⁰But arise, get down, and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.”

²⁰ برخیز، پایین برو و از رفتن با ایشان تردید نداشته باش.» زیرا من آنها را فرستاده‌ام.

²¹Peter went down to the men, and said, “Behold, I am he whom you seek. Why have you come?”

²¹ پطرس پایین رفت و به آنان گفت: «من همان كسی هستم كه به دنبال او می‌گردید. برای چه آمده‌اید؟»

²²They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a righteous man and one who fears God, and well spoken of by all the nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to invite you to his house, and to listen to what you say.”

²² آنها پاسخ دادند: «سروان كرنیلیوس كه شخص نیكوكار و خدا ترس است و پیش همهٔ یهودیان نیک‌نام می‌باشد، از فرشتهٔ مقدّسی دستور یافت كه ما را به اینجا بفرستد و تو را به خانهٔ خود دعوت كند تا به هر پیامی كه داری گوش دهد.»

²³So he called them in and lodged them. On the next day Peter arose and went out with them, and some of the brothers from Joppa accompanied him.

²³ پس پطرس آنان را به خانه آورد و از ایشان پذیرایی نمود. روز بعد با ایشان به راه افتاد و چند نفر از ایماندران یافایی با آنان همراه بودند.

²⁴On the next day they entered into Caesarea. Cornelius was waiting for them, having called together his relatives and his near friends.

²⁴ فردای آن روز به قیصریه رسیدند. كرنیلیوس كه از خویشاوندان و دوستان نزدیک خود دعوت كرده بود چشم به راه ایشان بود.

²⁵When it happened that Peter entered, Cornelius met him, fell down at his feet, and worshiped him.

²⁵ وقتی پطرس می‌خواست داخل خانه شود، كرنیلیوس جلو رفت و پیش او به خاک افتاد.

²⁶But Peter raised him up, saying, “Stand up! I myself am also a man.”

²⁶ امّا پطرس او را از زمین بلند كرد و گفت: «برخیز من هم مانند تو انسانم.»

²⁷As he talked with him, he went in and found many gathered together.

²⁷ سپس به اتّفاق، صحبت‌كنان وارد خانه شدند. پطرس در آنجا با عدّهٔ زیادی روبه‌رو شد

²⁸He said to them, “You yourselves know how it is an unlawful thing for a man who is a Jew to join himself or come to one of another nation, but God has shown me that I shouldn’t call any man unholy or unclean.

²⁸ و به آنان گفت: «این را به خوبی می‌دانید، كه جایز نیست یک نفر یهودی با بیگانگان معاشرت یا همنشینی نماید. امّا خدا به من نشان داده است، كه من نباید هیچ‌كس را نجس یا ناپاک بدانم.

²⁹Therefore also I came without complaint when I was sent for. I ask therefore, why did you send for me?”

²⁹ پس وقتی دنبال من فرستادید بدون چون و چرا آمدم. تنها سؤالی كه دارم این است كه برای چه به دنبال من فرستادید؟»

³⁰Cornelius said, “Four days ago, I was fasting until this hour, and at the ninth hour, 3:00 P. M. I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

³⁰ كرنیلیوس در پاسخ گفت: «چهار روز پیش درست در همین وقت یعنی ساعت سه بعد از ظهر من در خانهٔ خود به نماز مشغول بودم، كه ناگاه مردی در لباس نورانی به من ظاهر شد

³¹and said, ‘Cornelius, your prayer is heard, and your gifts to the needy are remembered in the sight of God.

³¹ و گفت: 'ای كرنیلیوس، دعاهایت مستجاب شده و صدقاتی كه به فقرا می‌دهی در پیشگاه خدا منظور شده است.

³²Send therefore to Joppa, and summon Simon, who is surnamed Peter. He lodges in the house of Simon a tanner, by the seaside. When he comes, he will speak to you.’

³² بنابراین كسی را به شهر یافا بفرست و شمعون ملقّب به پطرس را به اینجا دعوت كن. او در خانهٔ شمعون دبّاغ كه در ساحل دریا واقع است، مهمان است.'

³³Therefore I sent to you at once, and it was good of you to come. Now therefore we are all here present in the sight of God to hear all things that have been commanded you by God.”

³³ پس بی‌درنگ این اشخاص را پیش تو فرستادم و تو لطف فرموده به اینجا آمدی. اكنون همهٔ ما در حضور خدا گرد آمده‌ایم تا به آن چیزهایی كه خداوند به تو دستور داده است گوش دهیم.»

³⁴Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly I perceive that God doesn’t show favoritism;

³⁴ پس پطرس سخنان خود را شروع كرده گفت: «من به این حقیقت پی برده‌ام كه خدا هیچ تبعیضی قایل نمی‌شود

³⁵but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.

³⁵ و هرکس از هر ملّتی كه خداترس و نیكوكار باشد، مقبول خداست.

³⁶The word which he sent to the children of Israel, preaching good news of peace by Jesus Christ—he is Lord of all—

³⁶ خدا پیام خود را به قوم اسرائیل فرستاد و به این طریق مژدهٔ صلح و سلامتی را به وسیلهٔ عیسی مسیح كه خداوند همه است، ابلاغ فرمود.

³⁷you yourselves know what happened, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

³⁷ شما خودتان از اتّفاق بزرگی كه در سرتاسر یهودیه روی داد، باخبر هستید و می‌دانید همهٔ این چیزها بعد از اعلام تعمید یحیی، از جلیل شروع شد.

³⁸even Jesus of Nazareth, how God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

³⁸ خدا، عیسای ناصری را با روح‌القدس و قدرت خود مسح كرد و می‌دانید، كه چگونه عیسی به همه‌جا می‌رفت و کارهای نیک انجام می‌داد و همهٔ كسانی را كه در اسارت شیطان به سر می‌بردند رهایی می‌بخشید زیرا خدا با او بود.

³⁹We are witnesses of everything he did both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they also TR omits “also” killed, hanging him on a tree.

³⁹ ما شاهدان همهٔ آن کارهایی هستیم كه او در سرزمین یهودیان و در اورشلیم انجام داد. آنان او را به صلیب كشیده، میخكوب كرده و كشتند.

⁴⁰God raised him up the third day, and gave him to be revealed,

⁴⁰ امّا خدا او را در روز سوم زنده كرد و بسیاری او را دیدند،

⁴¹not to all the people, but to witnesses who were chosen before by God, to us, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

⁴¹ امّا نه همهٔ قوم اسرائیل بلكه شاهدانی كه خدا قبلاً برگزیده بود، او را دیدند؛ یعنی ما كه پس از رستاخیز او با او می‌خوردیم و می‌نوشیدیم.

⁴²He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that this is he who is appointed by God as the Judge of the living and the dead.

⁴² او به ما فرمان داد كه به آن قوم اعلام كنیم و به این حقیقت شهادت دهیم كه خدا او را داور زندگان و مردگان قرار داده است.

⁴³All the prophets testify about him, that through his name everyone who believes in him will receive remission of sins.”

⁴³ جمیع انبیا به او شهادت می‌دهند كه هر كسی به او ایمان آورد، به وسیلهٔ نام او گناهانش آمرزیده می‌شود.»

⁴⁴While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.

⁴⁴ پطرس هنوز صحبت می‌کرد، كه روح‌القدس بر همهٔ شنوندگان نازل شد

⁴⁵They of the circumcision who believed were amazed, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit was also poured out on the Gentiles.

⁴⁵ و مؤمنان یهودی نژاد كه همراه پطرس آمده بودند از اینكه بخشش روح‌القدس به غیر یهودیان نیز داده شده بود، دچار حیرت شدند.

⁴⁶For they heard them speaking in other languages and magnifying God. Then Peter answered,

⁴⁶ زیرا می‌شنیدند كه به زبانها صحبت می‌کنند و خدا را تمجید می‌نمایند. آنگاه پطرس گفت:

⁴⁷“Can any man forbid the water, that these who have received the Holy Spirit as well as we should not be baptized?”

⁴⁷ «آیا كسی می‌تواند مانع از تعمید این اشخاص در آب بشود؟ مگر نه این است، كه ایشان هم مانند ما روح‌القدس را یافته‌اند؟» پس دستور داد ایشان را به نام عیسی مسیح تعمید دهند. سپس آنها از پطرس تقاضا كردند چند روزی پیش ایشان بماند.

⁴⁸He commanded them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay some days.

⁴⁸ پس دستور داد ایشان را به نام عیسی مسیح تعمید دهند. سپس آنها از پطرس تقاضا كردند چند روزی پیش ایشان بماند.
