¹Now the apostles and the brothers The word for “brothers” here and where context allows may also be correctly translated “brothers and sisters” or “siblings.” who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

¹ به رسولان و ایماندارن مقیم یهودیه خبر رسید كه غیر یهودیان نیز پیام خدا را پذیرفته‌‌اند.

²When Peter had come up to Jerusalem, those who were of the circumcision contended with him,

² هنگامی‌که پطرس به اورشلیم بازگشت کسانی‌که به ختنه كردن غیر یهودیان اصرار داشتند به او اعتراض كرده گفتند:

³saying, “You went in to uncircumcised men, and ate with them!”

³ «چرا به خانهٔ نامختونان وارد شدی و حتّی با آنها غذا خوردی؟»

⁴But Peter began, and explained to them in order, saying,

⁴ پطرس شروع كرد و تمام جریان را از اول تا به آخر برای ایشان شرح داد و گفت:

⁵“I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision: a certain container descending, like it was a great sheet let down from heaven by four corners. It came as far as me.

⁵ «در یافا به دعا مشغول بودم كه حالت جذبه‌ای به من دست داد و در رؤیا چیزی دیدم مانند یک سفرهٔ بزرگ كه از چهار گوشه آویزان شده بود و از آسمان به پایین آمد تا به من رسید.

⁶When I had looked intently at it, I considered, and saw the four-footed animals of the earth, wild animals, creeping things, and birds of the sky.

⁶ وقتی با دقّت به آن نگاه كردم دیدم كه در آن چارپایان و وحوش و خزندگان و پرندگان جمع شده‌اند

⁷I also heard a voice saying to me, ‘Rise, Peter, kill and eat!’

⁷ و صدایی به گوشم رسید كه می‌گفت: 'ای پطرس، برخیز، سر ببر و بخور.'

⁸But I said, ‘Not so, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered into my mouth.’

⁸ گفتم 'خیر، ای خداوند من هرگز به چیزهای ناپاک و حرام لب نزده‌ام.'

⁹But a voice answered me the second time out of heaven, ‘What God has cleansed, don’t you call unclean.’

⁹ بار دوم صدایی از آسمان رسید كه می‌گفت: 'آنچه را كه خدا حلال كرده است تو نباید حرام بپنداری.'

¹⁰This was done three times, and all were drawn up again into heaven.

¹⁰ این موضوع سه بار تكرار شد و بالاخره همه‌چیز به آسمان بالا رفت.

¹¹Behold, immediately three men stood before the house where I was, having been sent from Caesarea to me.

¹¹ در همان لحظه سه نفر به خانه‌ای كه محل اقامت من بود، آمدند. ایشان را از قیصریه به دنبال من فرستاده بودند.

¹²The Spirit told me to go with them, without discriminating. These six brothers also accompanied me, and we entered into the man’s house.

¹² روح خدا به من فرمود كه بدون تردید با ایشان بروم. این شش برادر هم به همراه من آمدند و به خانهٔ آن شخص وارد شدیم.

¹³He told us how he had seen the angel standing in his house, and saying to him, ‘Send to Joppa, and get Simon, whose surname is Peter,

¹³ او برای ما تعریف كرد كه چطور در خانهٔ خود فرشته‌ای را دیده كه ایستاده و به او گفته است: 'كسی را به یافا بفرست و شمعون ملقّب به پطرس را بیاور

¹⁴who will speak to you words by which you will be saved, you and all your house.’

¹⁴ و او آن پیامی را كه باعث نجات تو و تمامی اهل خانه‌ات خواهد شد، به تو خواهد رسانید.'

¹⁵As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, even as on us at the beginning.

¹⁵ من در آنجا هنوز مطالب زیادی نگفته بودم كه روح‌القدس بر آنها نازل شد. به همان طریقی که در ابتدا به خود ما نازل شده بود

¹⁶I remembered the word of the Lord, how he said, ‘John indeed baptized in water, but you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.’

¹⁶ و آنگاه به‌خاطر آوردم كه خداوند فرموده بود: 'یحیی با آب تعمید می‌داد امّا شما با روح‌القدس تعمید خواهید یافت.'

¹⁷If then God gave to them the same gift as us, when we believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I, that I could withstand God?”

¹⁷ خدا به آنها همان چیزی را بخشیده است كه به ما هنگامی‌که به عیسی مسیح خداوند ایمان آوردیم عطا فرمود، پس من كِه بودم كه مانع كار خدا بشوم؟»

¹⁸When they heard these things, they held their peace, and glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life!”

¹⁸ وقتی این را شنیدند خاموش ماندند و درحالی‌که خدا را ستایش می‌کردند گفتند: «پس در این صورت خدا به غیر یهودیان نیز این فرصت را بخشیده است تا آنها هم از گناهان خود توبه كنند و حیات یابند.»

¹⁹They therefore who were scattered abroad by the oppression that arose about Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the word to no one except to Jews only.

¹⁹ در اثر شكنجه و آزاری كه به دنبال مرگ استیفان آغاز شد، عدّهٔ زیادی پراكنده شدند و تا فنیقیه و قبرس و شهر انطاكیه مهاجرت كردند. امّا آنان پیام خود را به هیچ كسی جز یهودیان اعلام نكردند.

²⁰But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, A Hellenist is someone who keeps Greek customs and culture. preaching the Lord Jesus.

²⁰ ولی در میان ایشان چند نفر از اهالی قبرس و قیروان نیز بودند، كه به محض رسیدن به انطاكیه با یونانیان به گفت‌وگو پرداختند و دربارهٔ عیسی خداوند بشارت دادند.

²¹The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number believed and turned to the Lord.

²¹ قدرت خداوند با ایشان بود و عدّهٔ زیادی ایمان آورده به خداوند روی آوردند.

²²The report concerning them came to the ears of the assembly which was in Jerusalem. They sent out Barnabas to go as far as Antioch,

²² این خبر در اورشلیم به كلیسا رسید و در نتیجه برنابا مأمور شد كه به انطاكیه سفر نماید.

²³who, when he had come, and had seen the grace of God, was glad. He exhorted them all, that with purpose of heart they should remain near to the Lord.

²³ وقتی او به آنجا رسید و بركات خدا را با چشم خود دید، شادمان شد و آنان را تشویق می‌کرد، كه از دل و جان در وفاداری نسبت به خداوند استوار بمانند.

²⁴For he was a good man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith, and many people were added to the Lord.

²⁴ او مردی نیكوكار و پر از روح‌القدس و ایمان بود. پس عدّه كثیری به خداوند تسلیم شدند.

²⁵Barnabas went out to Tarsus to look for Saul.

²⁵ بعد از آن برنابا به شهر طرسوس رفت تا شائول را پیدا كند.

²⁶When he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. It happened, that for a whole year they were gathered together with the assembly, and taught many people. The disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

²⁶ پس او را یافته به انطاكیه آورد و مدّت یک سال تمام با ایمانداران جمع می‌شدند و عدّهٔ بسیاری را تعلیم می‌دادند. در انطاکیه بود که برای اولین بار پیروان عیسی را مسیحی نامیدند.

²⁷Now in these days, prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

²⁷ در همین احوال چند نفر نبی از اورشلیم به انطاكیه وارد شدند.

²⁸One of them named Agabus stood up, and indicated by the Spirit that there should be a great famine all over the world, which also happened in the days of Claudius.

²⁸ یكی از آنان كه اغابوس نام داشت. برخاست و با الهام روح، قحطی سخت و دنیاگیری را پیشگویی كرد. این قحطی در زمان سلطنت كلودیوس قیصر اتّفاق افتاد.

²⁹As any of the disciples had plenty, each determined to send relief to the brothers who lived in Judea;

²⁹ از این نظر شاگردان تصمیم گرفتند که هرکس به قدر توانایی خود اعانه‌ای برای یاری ایمانداران مقیم یهودیه بفرستد. آنها چنین كردند، اعانه‌ها را به دست برنابا و شائول سپردند تا به رهبران كلیسای اورشلیم تقدیم كنند.

³⁰which they also did, sending it to the elders by the hands of Barnabas and Saul.
