¹He came to Derbe and Lystra: and behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timothy, the son of a Jewess who believed; but his father was a Greek.

¹ پولس به اتّفاق سیلاس به دربه و لستره رسید. در شهر لستره یكی از شاگردان به نام تیموتاؤس زندگی می‌کرد كه مادرش مسیحی یهودی نژاد و پدرش یونانی بود.

²The brothers who were at Lystra and Iconium gave a good testimony about him.

² ایماندران ساكن لستره و قونیه از او تعریف می‌کردند

³Paul wanted to have him go out with him, and he took and circumcised him because of the Jews who were in those parts; for they all knew that his father was a Greek.

³ و پولس میل داشت، او را همراه خود ببرد، پس به‌خاطر یهودیان آن دیار تیموتاؤس را ختنه نمود. زیرا همه می‌دانستند كه پدرش یونانی بود.

⁴As they went on their way through the cities, they delivered the decrees to them to keep which had been ordained by the apostles and elders who were at Jerusalem.

⁴ آنان همچنان‌كه شهر به شهر می‌گشتند، تصمیماتی را كه رسولان و رهبران در اورشلیم گرفته بودند، به ایمانداران می‌سپردند تا بر طبق آن عمل كنند.

⁵So the assemblies were strengthened in the faith, and increased in number daily.

⁵ از این رو كلیساها در ایمان تقویت می‌یافتند و روز به روز به تعدادشان افزوده می‌شد.

⁶When they had gone through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to speak the word in Asia.

⁶ وقتی آنها از استان فریجیه و استان غلاطیه می‌گذشتند، روح‌القدس مانع شد كه پیام خدا را به استان آسیا ابلاغ نمایند

⁷When they had come opposite Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit didn’t allow them.

⁷ و وقتی به سرحد میسیه رسیدند، سعی داشتند به استان بطینیه بروند. امّا روح عیسی به ایشان اجازه نداد.

⁸Passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.

⁸ بنابراین از میسیه گذشتند و به شهر تروآس آمدند.

⁹A vision appeared to Paul in the night. There was a man of Macedonia standing, begging him, and saying, “Come over into Macedonia and help us.”

⁹ در همان شب پولس در رؤیا دید، كه شخصی مقدونی ایستاده بود و با التماس به او می‌گفت: «به مقدونیه بیا و ما را یاری كن.»

¹⁰When he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go out to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the Good News to them.

¹⁰ به محض اینكه پولس این رؤیا را دید، ما عازم مقدونیه شدیم. زیرا شكی نداشتیم كه خدا ما را خوانده بود كه به ایشان نیز بشارت دهیم.

¹¹Setting sail therefore from Troas, we made a straight course to Samothrace, and the day following to Neapolis;

¹¹ در تروآس سوار كشتی شدیم و مستقیم به جزیرهٔ ساموتراكی رفتیم و روز بعد رهسپار نیاپولیس شدیم.

¹²and from there to Philippi, which is a city of Macedonia, the foremost of the district, a Roman colony. We were staying some days in this city.

¹² از آنجا به فیلیپی كه یک مستعمرهٔ رومی و شهری در بخش اول استان مقدونیه است رفتیم. در این شهر چند روزی اقامت كردیم.

¹³On the Sabbath day we went forth outside of the city by a riverside, where we supposed there was a place of prayer, and we sat down, and spoke to the women who had come together.

¹³ روز سبت از دروازهٔ شهر خارج شدیم و به كنار رودخانه‌ای كه گمان می‌کردیم محل دعای یهودیان باشد رفتیم. در آنجا نشستیم و با زنانی كه جمع شده بودند، صحبت كردیم.

¹⁴A certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, one who worshiped God, heard us; whose heart the Lord opened to listen to the things which were spoken by Paul.

¹⁴ یكی از شنوندگان ما زنی بود به نام لیدیه، كه پارچه‌های ارغوانی می‌فروخت. او از اهالی شهر طیاتیرا و زنی خداپرست بود. خداوند قلب او را باز كرد تا تعلیم پولس را بپذیرد

¹⁵When she and her household were baptized, she begged us, saying, “If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and stay.” So she persuaded us.

¹⁵ و هنگامی‌که او و خانواده‌اش تعمید گرفتند، با خواهش و تمنّا به ما گفت: «اگر مرا نسبت به خداوند یک مؤمن حقیقی می‌دانید بیایید و در منزل من بمانید.» و آن‌قدر اصرار كرد، كه ما رفتیم.

¹⁶It happened, as we were going to prayer, that a certain girl having a spirit of divination met us, who brought her masters much gain by fortune telling.

¹⁶ یک روز كه به محل دعا می‌رفتیم به كنیزی برخورد كردیم كه روح فالگیری و غیبگویی داشت و از این راه منافع سرشاری نصیب اربابان خود كرده بود.

¹⁷Following Paul and us, she cried out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to us a way of salvation!”

¹⁷ او به دنبال ما و پولس افتاد و فریاد می‌کرد: «اینان غلامان خدای متعالند و راه رستگاری را به شما اعلام می‌نمایند.»

¹⁸She was doing this for many days. But Paul, becoming greatly annoyed, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” It came out that very hour.

¹⁸ چند روز كارش همین بود تا سرانجام حوصلهٔ پولس سر آمده به سوی او برگشت و به آن روح گفت: «به نام عیسی مسیح به تو فرمان می‌دهم از او خارج شو.» و در همان لحظه از او خارج شد.

¹⁹But when her masters saw that the hope of their gain was gone, they seized Paul and Silas, and dragged them into the marketplace before the rulers.

¹⁹ همین‌که اربابان او دیدند امید منافع خود را از دست داده‌اند، پولس و سیلاس را گرفتند و كشان‌كشان به میدان شهر پیش بزرگان شهر بردند.

²⁰When they had brought them to the magistrates, they said, “These men, being Jews, are agitating our city,

²⁰ وقتی آنان را پیش مأموران رومی آوردند گفتند: «این مردان كه یهودی هستند شهر ما را به هم می‌ریزند

²¹and set forth customs which it is not lawful for us to accept or to observe, being Romans.”

²¹ ایشان رسومی را تبلیغ می‌کنند كه قبول آنها و عمل كردن به آنها برای ما رومیان جایز نیست.»

²²The multitude rose up together against them, and the magistrates tore their clothes off of them, and commanded them to be beaten with rods.

²² مردم نیز در این حمله به آنان پیوستند و مأموران لباسهای آنان را در آوردند و دستور دادند، آنان را چوب بزنند.

²³When they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, charging the jailer to keep them safely,

²³ بعد از كتک زیاد آنها را به زندان انداختند و به زندانبان دستور اكید دادند، كه ایشان را با دقّت تمام تحت نظر بگیرد.

²⁴who, having received such a command, threw them into the inner prison, and secured their feet in the stocks.

²⁴ با این دستور زندانبان آنان را در زندان داخلی زندانی كرد و پاهای ایشان را در كنده و زنجیر گذاشت.

²⁵But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

²⁵ نزدیكی‌های نصف شب پولس و سیلاس به دعا مشغول بودند و به درگاه خدا سرودهای حمد می‌خواندند و زندانیان دیگر گوش می‌دادند، كه

²⁶Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were loosened.

²⁶ ناگهان زلزلهٔ شدیدی رخ داد، به طوری که زندان را از بنیاد به لرزه درآورد. تمام درهای زندان در همان لحظه باز شد و همهٔ زنجیرها به زمین افتادند.

²⁷The jailer, being roused out of sleep and seeing the prison doors open, drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.

²⁷ وقتی زندانبان بیدار شد و درهای زندان را باز دید، شمشیر خود را كشید و چیزی نمانده بود، كه خود را بكشد؛ چون تصوّر می‌کرد زندانیان فرار کرده‌اند.

²⁸But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, “Don’t harm yourself, for we are all here!”

²⁸ امّا پولس به صدای بلند گفت: «به خود آسیبی نرسان، همهٔ ما اینجا هستیم.»

²⁹He called for lights and sprang in, and, fell down trembling before Paul and Silas,

²⁹ زندانبان چراغی خواست و سراسیمه وارد اتاق شد و درحالی‌که از ترس می‌لرزید پیش پاهای پولس و سیلاس به زمین افتاد.

³⁰and brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

³⁰ سپس آنان را بیرون آورد و گفت: «ای آقایان، من چه باید بكنم كه نجات یابم؟»

³¹They said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

³¹ پاسخ دادند: «به عیسی خداوند ایمان آور كه تو با اهل خانه‌ات نجات خواهی یافت.»

³²They spoke the word of the Lord to him, and to all who were in his house.

³² آنگاه پیام خداوند را به او و جمیع اهل خانه‌اش رسانیدند.

³³He took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes, and was immediately baptized, he and all his household.

³³ درست در همان موقع شب زندانبان آنان را بیرون آورد و زخمهایشان را شست‌وشو نمود و بی‌درنگ او و خانواده‌اش تعمید گرفتند.

³⁴He brought them up into his house, and set food before them, and rejoiced greatly, with all his household, having believed in God.

³⁴ زندانبان ایشان را به خانهٔ خود برد و برای ایشان غذا آورد و او و تمام اهل خانه‌اش از اینكه به خدا ایمان آورده بودند، بی‌نهایت شاد گشتند.

³⁵But when it was day, the magistrates sent the sergeants, saying, “Let those men go.”

³⁵ همین‌که روز شد مأموران رومی چند نفر از پاسبانان را فرستادند و دستور دادند كه آنان را آزاد كنند.

³⁶The jailer reported these words to Paul, saying, “The magistrates have sent to let you go; now therefore come out, and go in peace.”

³⁶ زندانبان این خبر را به پولس رسانیده گفت: «مأموران رومی دستور داده‌اند كه شما را آزاد كنیم، پس بفرمایید و به سلامت بروید.»

³⁷But Paul said to them, “They have beaten us publicly, without a trial, men who are Romans, and have cast us into prison! Do they now release us secretly? No, most certainly, but let them come themselves and bring us out!”

³⁷ پولس در پاسخ گفت: «ایشان ما را كه اتباع رومی هستیم در مقابل همه و بدون محاكمه چوب زدند و به زندان انداختند و حالا می‌خواهند ما را مخفیانه بیرون كنند. هرگز! خودشان بیایند و ما را بیرون ببرند.»

³⁸The sergeants reported these words to the magistrates, and they were afraid when they heard that they were Romans,

³⁸ پاسبانان گفتار پولس را به اطّلاع مأموران رسانیدند. وقتی آنها شنیدند ایشان از اتباع روم هستند، بسیار ترسیدند

³⁹and they came and begged them. When they had brought them out, they asked them to depart from the city.

³⁹ و آمده از ایشان عذرخواهی كردند و آنان را تا بیرون زندان همراهی كردند و از آنان خواهش نمودند كه شهر را ترک نمایند. به این ترتیب آن دو نفر از زندان بیرون آمده به خانهٔ لیدیه رفتند و پس از اینكه ایماندران را دیدند و به ایشان دلگرمی دادند آنجا را ترک كردند.

⁴⁰They went out of the prison, and entered into Lydia’s house. When they had seen the brothers, they encouraged them, and departed.

⁴⁰ به این ترتیب آن دو نفر از زندان بیرون آمده به خانهٔ لیدیه رفتند و پس از اینكه ایماندران را دیدند و به ایشان دلگرمی دادند آنجا را ترک كردند.
