¹When it happened that we had parted from them and had set sail, we came with a straight course to Cos, and the next day to Rhodes, and from there to Patara.

¹ ما از آنان خداحافظی كرده آنجا را ترک نمودیم و از راه دریا یكسره به جزیرهٔ كاس آمدیم و روز بعد به بندرگاه جزیره رودس وارد شدیم و از آنجا به پاترا رفتیم.

²Having found a ship crossing over to Phoenicia, we went aboard, and set sail.

² در‌ آنجا كشتی‌ای دیدیم كه عازم فینیقیه بود، پس سوار آن شدیم و حركت كردیم.

³When we had come in sight of Cyprus, leaving it on the left hand, we sailed to Syria, and landed at Tyre, for there the ship was to unload her cargo.

³ همین‌که قبرس از دور نمایان شد، ما از طرف جنوب آن گذشتیم و به سفر خود به سوی سوریه ادامه دادیم و در بندر صور لنگر انداختیم. زیرا قرار بر این بود كه بار كشتی را در آنجا خالی كنند.

⁴Having found disciples, we stayed there seven days. These said to Paul through the Spirit, that he should not go up to Jerusalem.

⁴ در‌ آنجا ایمانداران را پیدا كردیم و هفت روز پیش آنان ماندیم. آنها با الهام روح خدا به پولس اصرار كردند، كه از رفتن به اورشلیم منصرف شود.

⁵When it happened that we had accomplished the days, we departed and went on our journey. They all, with wives and children, brought us on our way until we were out of the city. Kneeling down on the beach, we prayed.

⁵ و چون وقت ما به پایان رسید، بار دیگر راه سفر را در پیش گرفتیم و جمیع آنان با زنها و بچّه‌هایشان ما را تا خارج شهر بدرقه كردند. آنگاه در ساحل دریا زانو زدیم و دعا كردیم

⁶After saying goodbye to each other, we went on board the ship, and they returned home again.

⁶ و با یكدیگر خداحافظی نمودیم. وقتی ما سوار كشتی شدیم، آنان به خانه‌های خود بازگشتند.

⁷When we had finished the voyage from Tyre, we arrived at Ptolemais. We greeted the brothers, and stayed with them one day.

⁷ از صور به سفر دریایی خود ادامه دادیم و به شهر بطلمیوس رسیدیم. در آنجا ایماندران را ملاقات نمودیم و روزی را با آنان به سر آوردیم.

⁸On the next day, we, who were Paul’s companions, departed, and came to Caesarea. We entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, and stayed with him.

⁸ روز بعد آنجا را ترک كرده به قیصریه آمدیم و به خانه فیلیپُس مبشر كه یكی از آن هفت نفری بود كه در اورشلیم انتخاب شده بودند، رفتیم و پیش او ماندیم.

⁹Now this man had four virgin daughters who prophesied.

⁹ فیلیپُس چهار دختر باكره داشت كه همگی نبوّت می‌کردند.

¹⁰As we stayed there some days, a certain prophet named Agabus came down from Judea.

¹⁰ پس از چند روز یک نفر نبی به نام آكابوس از یهودیه به آنجا رسید.

¹¹Coming to us, and taking Paul’s belt, he bound his own feet and hands, and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit: ‘So will the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and will deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’”

¹¹ او پیش ما آمد و كمربند پولس را برداشت و دست و پای خود را با آن بست و گفت: «آنچه روح‌القدس می‌گوید: این است كه یهودیان مقیم اورشلیم، صاحب این كمربند را این‌طور خواهند بست و او را به دست بیگانگان خواهند سپرد.»

¹²When we heard these things, both we and they of that place begged him not to go up to Jerusalem.

¹² وقتی این را شنیدیم، هم ما و هم اهالی آن شهر به پولس التماس نمودیم كه از رفتن به اورشلیم صرف‌نظر نماید.

¹³Then Paul answered, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.”

¹³ امّا پولس در جواب گفت: «این چه كاری است كه شما می‌کنید؟ چرا با اشكهای خود دل مرا می‌شكنید؟ من نه فقط حاضرم زندانی شوم، بلكه حاضرم در اورشلیم به‌خاطر عیسی خداوند بمیرم.»

¹⁴When he would not be persuaded, we ceased, saying, “The Lord’s will be done.”

¹⁴ چون سخنان ما در او اثری نكرد، دست برداشتیم و گفتیم: «باشد! هرچه خداوند می‌خواهد همان بشود.»

¹⁵After these days we took up our baggage and went up to Jerusalem.

¹⁵ بعد از چند روز ما بار سفر خود را بستیم و عازم اورشلیم شدیم.

¹⁶Some of the disciples from Caesarea also went with us, bringing one Mnason of Cyprus, an early disciple, with whom we would stay.

¹⁶ چند نفر از شاگردان مقیم قیصریه هم ما را همراهی كردند و ما را به خانهٔ مناسون كه اهل قبرس و یكی از ایمانداران اوّلیه بود، بردند.

¹⁷When we had come to Jerusalem, the brothers received us gladly.

¹⁷ وقتی به اورشلیم رسیدیم ایمانداران با گرمی از ما استقبال كردند.

¹⁸The day following, Paul went in with us to James; and all the elders were present.

¹⁸ روز بعد پولس به اتّفاق ما به دیدن یعقوب رفت و تمام رهبران كلیسا آنجا حضور داشتند.

¹⁹When he had greeted them, he reported one by one the things which God had worked among the Gentiles through his ministry.

¹⁹ پس از سلام و احوالپرسی، پولس از كارهایی كه خدا به وسیلهٔ او در میان ملل غیر یهود انجام داده بود گزارش كاملی به آنها داد.

²⁰They, when they heard it, glorified God. They said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed, and they are all zealous for the law.

²⁰ آنان وقتی این را شنیدند خدا را ستایش كردند و سپس به پولس گفتند: «ای برادر، همان‌طور كه می‌بینی هزاران نفر از یهودیان ایمان آورده‌اند و همهٔ آنها نسبت به شریعت تعصّب بسیار دارند.

²¹They have been informed about you, that you teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children neither to walk after the customs.

²¹ در میان آنان شایع شده است كه تو به یهودیانی كه در كشورهای بیگانه سكونت دارند، تعلیم می‌دهی كه از شریعت موسی اطاعت ننموده فرزندان خود را ختنه نكنند و دیگر رسوم خود را نگاه ندارند.

²²What then? The assembly must certainly meet, for they will hear that you have come.

²² تكلیف چیست؟ آنان حتماً از آمدن تو باخبر خواهند شد.

²³Therefore do what we tell you. We have four men who have taken a vow.

²³ پس هرچه به تو می‌گوییم، انجام بده. در اینجا چهار نفر هستند كه نذری نموده‌اند.

²⁴Take them, and purify yourself with them, and pay their expenses for them, that they may shave their heads. Then all will know that there is no truth in the things that they have been informed about you, but that you yourself also walk keeping the law.

²⁴ تو همراه آنان برو و به اتّفاق آنها مراسم تطهیر را به جای بیاور و مخارج ایشان را هم قبول كن تا آنها بتوانند سرهایشان را بتراشند و به این ترتیب همه خواهند فهمید كه در این شایعات هیچ حقیقتی وجود ندارد بلكه برعکس، تو هم مطابق شریعت زندگی می‌کنی.

²⁵But concerning the Gentiles who believe, we have written our decision that they should observe no such thing, except that they should keep themselves from food offered to idols, from blood, from strangled things, and from sexual immorality.”

²⁵ و امّا در خصوص غیر یهودیانی كه ایمان آورده‌اند، ما قبلاً حكم خود را كتباً به اطّلاع آنها رسانده‌ایم تا از خوردن غذاهایی كه به بُتها تقدیم می‌گردد، خون، گوشت حیوان خفه شده و از زنا پرهیز كنند.»

²⁶Then Paul took the men, and the next day, purified himself and went with them into the temple, declaring the fulfillment of the days of purification, until the offering was offered for every one of them.

²⁶ پس روز بعد پولس آن چهار نفر را همراه خود برد و به اتّفاق آنان مراسم تطهیر را بجا آورد و بعد از آن وارد معبد بزرگ شد و تعداد روزهای دوره تطهیر را، كه در آخر آن باید برای هر یک از آنان قربانی گذرانیده شود، اعلام نمود.

²⁷When the seven days were almost completed, the Jews from Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the multitude and laid hands on him,

²⁷ هنوز دوره هفت روزه تطهیر به پایان نرسیده بود كه بعضی از یهودیان مقیم استان آسیا پولس را در معبد بزرگ دیدند. آنان مردم را تحریک كردند و پولس را گرفتند

²⁸crying out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches all men everywhere against the people, and the law, and this place. Moreover, he also brought Greeks into the temple, and has defiled this holy place!”

²⁸ و فریاد زدند: «ای مردان اسرائیلی كمک كنید، این همان كسی است كه در همه‌جا برضد قوم ما و شریعت موسی و این مكان تعلیم می‌دهد و از آن گذشته یونانیان را نیز به این معبد بزرگ آورده و این مكان مقدّس را ناپاک كرده است.»

²⁹For they had seen Trophimus, the Ephesian, with him in the city, and they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple.

²⁹ (آنان قبلاً تروفیمس از اهالی افسس را همراه پولس در شهر دیده بودند و تصوّر می‌کردند كه پولس او را به معبد بزرگ آورده است.)

³⁰All the city was moved, and the people ran together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple. Immediately the doors were shut.

³⁰ تمام شهر شلوغ شد، مردم هجوم آوردند و پولس را گرفته از معبد بزرگ بیرون كشیدند و فوراً درهای معبد بزرگ بسته شد.

³¹As they were trying to kill him, news came up to the commanding officer of the regiment that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.

³¹ وقتی مردم در صدد قتل او بودند، به فرمانده هنگ رومی خبر رسید كه همهٔ ساكنان اورشلیم شورش کرده‌اند.

³²Immediately he took soldiers and centurions, and ran down to them. They, when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, stopped beating Paul.

³² او بی‌درنگ با سربازان و افسران خود به سوی جمعیّت شتافت. وقتی یهودیان فرمانده و سربازان را دیدند از زدن پولس دست برداشتند،

³³Then the commanding officer came near, arrested him, commanded him to be bound with two chains, and inquired who he was and what he had done.

³³ در این موقع سرهنگ به پولس نزدیک شد و او را دستگیر ساخت و دستور داد كه او را با دو زنجیر ببندند. آنگاه او پرسید: «این مرد كیست و چه خطایی كرده است؟»

³⁴Some shouted one thing, and some another, among the crowd. When he couldn’t find out the truth because of the noise, he commanded him to be brought into the barracks.

³⁴ بعضی از آنان با صدای بلند یک چیز می‌گفتند و بعضی‌ها چیز دیگر و چون به علّت جنجال بسیار نتوانست از حقیقت امر مطّلع شود، فرمان داد كه او را به سربازخانه ببرند.

³⁵When he came to the stairs, it happened that he was carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the crowd;

³⁵ وقتی به پلّه‌های پادگان رسیدند، سربازان به سبب خشم جماعت مجبور شدند پولس را روی شانه‌های خود حمل كنند

³⁶for the multitude of the people followed after, crying out, “Away with him!”

³⁶ زیرا مردم به دنبال آنان افتاده و دایماً فریاد می‌زدند: «او را بكشید.»

³⁷As Paul was about to be brought into the barracks, he asked the commanding officer, “May I speak to you?” He said, “Do you know Greek?

³⁷ هنوز وارد سربازخانه نشده بودند كه پولس رو به سرهنگ كرد و پرسید: «اجازه می‌دهی چیزی بگویم؟» سرهنگ پاسخ داد: «تو یونانی هم می‌دانی؟!

³⁸Aren’t you then the Egyptian, who before these days stirred up to sedition and led out into the wilderness the four thousand men of the Assassins?”

³⁸ پس تو آن مصری‌ای نیستی كه چندی پیش فتنه‌ای برپا كرد و چهارهزار آدمكش را با خود به بیابان برد.»

³⁹But Paul said, “I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no insignificant city. I beg you, allow me to speak to the people.”

³⁹ پولس گفت: «من یهودی هستم، اهل شهر طرسوس قیلیقیه و تبعهٔ یک شهر بزرگ و مهم هستم. خواهش می‌کنم اجازه بده تا با مردم صحبت كنم.» وقتی فرمانده به او اجازه داد، او بالای پلّه ایستاد و با بلند كردن دست خود از جمعیّت خواست ساكت باشند و همین‌که کاملاً‏ ساكت شدند، به زبان عبری خطاب به آنان چنین گفت:

⁴⁰When he had given him permission, Paul, standing on the stairs, beckoned with his hand to the people. When there was a great silence, he spoke to them in the Hebrew language, saying,

⁴⁰ وقتی فرمانده به او اجازه داد، او بالای پلّه ایستاد و با بلند كردن دست خود از جمعیّت خواست ساكت باشند و همین‌که کاملاً‏ ساكت شدند، به زبان عبری خطاب به آنان چنین گفت:
