¹These are the words which Moses spoke to all Israel beyond the Jordan in the wilderness, in the Arabah over against Suph, between Paran, and Tophel, and Laban, and Hazeroth, and Dizahab.

¹ این سخنانی است که موسی به قوم اسرائیل، هنگامی‌که آنها در شرق رود اردن (واقع در صحرای موآب) بودند، گفت. شهرهای این ناحیه عبارت بودند از: سوف، فاران، توفل، لابان، حضیروت و دی‌ذهب.

²It is eleven days’ journey from Horeb by the way of Mount Seir to Kadesh Barnea.

² از کوه سینا تا قادش برنیع از راه اَدوم سفری یازده روزه است.

³It happened in the fortieth year, in the eleventh month, on the first day of the month, that Moses spoke to the children of Israel, according to all that Yahweh “Yahweh” is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered “LORD” (all caps) in other translations. had given him in commandment to them;

³ در روز اول ماه یازدهم سال چهلم، موسی هرآنچه را که خداوند فرمان داده بود، به بنی‌اسرائیل گفت.

⁴after he had struck Sihon the king of the Amorites, who lived in Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, who lived in Ashtaroth, at Edrei.

⁴ بعد از آن که او سیحون، پادشاه اموریان را که در حشبون حکومت می‌کرد و عوج، پادشاه باشان را که در عشتاروت و ادرعی حکومت می‌کرد، شکست داد.

⁵Beyond the Jordan, in the land of Moab, began Moses to declare this law, saying,

⁵ در آن سوی رود اردن در سرزمین موآب، موسی به شرح قوانین خداوند پرداخت. او گفت:

⁶“Yahweh our God The Hebrew word rendered “God” is “Elohim.” spoke to us in Horeb, saying, You have lived long enough in this mountain:

⁶ «وقتی ما در کوه سینا بودیم، خداوند خدای ما به ما چنین فرمود: 'شما به قدر کافی در این کوهستان توقّف کرده‌اید.

⁷turn, and take your journey, and go to the hill country of the Amorites, and to all the places near there, in the Arabah, in the hill country, and in the lowland, and in the South, and by the seashore, the land of the Canaanites, and Lebanon, as far as the great river, the river Euphrates.

⁷ اردو را جمع کرده، حرکت نمایید و به سرزمین کوهستانی اموریان و نواحی آن یعنی دشت اردن، کوهستان‌ها، دشتها، حوالی سمت جنوب، سواحل مدیترانه، سرزمین کنعان، لبنان و تا رود فرات بروید و همه را تصرّف کنید.

⁸Behold, I have set the land before you: go in and possess the land which Yahweh swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give to them and to their seed after them.”

⁸ من این سرزمین را در برابر شما نهاده‌‌ام، وارد شوید و آن را تصرّف کنید. چون این سرزمینی است که من، خداوند، به نیاکان شما ابراهیم و اسحاق و یعقوب و تمامی نسلهای آیندهٔ ایشان وعده داده بودم.'

⁹I spoke to you at that time, saying, “I am not able to bear you myself alone:

⁹ «در آن روزها به شما گفتم: من به تنهایی نمی‌توانم مسئولیّت شما را تحمّل کنم.

¹⁰Yahweh your God has multiplied you, and behold, you are this day as the stars of the sky for multitude.

¹⁰ خداوند تعداد شما را مثل ستارگان آسمان بی‌شمار ساخته است.

¹¹Yahweh, the God of your fathers, make you a thousand times as many as you are, and bless you, as he has promised you!

¹¹ خداوند خدای نیاکانتان، تعداد شما را هزار برابر افزایش دهد و طبق وعده‌اش شما را برکت دهد.

¹²How can I myself alone bear your encumbrance, and your burden, and your strife?

¹² امّا چطور می‌توانم به تنهایی به تمام دعواها و منازعات شما رسیدگی کنم؟

¹³Take wise men of understanding and well known according to your tribes, and I will make them heads over you.”

¹³ بنابراین از هر طایفه، چند مرد دانا، فهمیده و باتجربه را انتخاب کنید و من آنها را به رهبری شما تعیین می‌نمایم.

¹⁴You answered me, and said, “The thing which you have spoken is good to do.”

¹⁴ شما با پیشنهاد من موافقت کردید.

¹⁵So I took the heads of your tribes, wise men, and known, and made them heads over you, captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, and captains of fifties, and captains of tens, and officers, according to your tribes.

¹⁵ آن وقت من آن اشخاص دانا و باتجربهٔ هر طایفه را که شما انتخاب کردید، مأمور ساختم تا به عنوان رهبر گروههای هزار، صد، پنجاه و ده نفری انجام وظیفه کنند.

¹⁶I commanded your judges at that time, saying, “Hear cases between your brothers, and judge righteously between a man and his brother, and the foreigner who is living with him.

¹⁶ «در آن موقع به رهبران امر کردم که در عین حال در امور قضایی هم به شما کمک کنند و دعواها و امور حقوقی مردم را چه از قوم خودشان باشند چه از بیگانه، از روی عدالت و بدون تبعیض داوری کنند.

¹⁷You shall not show partiality in judgment; you shall hear the small and the great alike; you shall not be afraid of the face of man; for the judgment is God’s. The case that is too hard for you, you shall bring to me, and I will hear it.”

¹⁷ شما باید در قضاوت بی‌طرف باشید، به ضعیف و قوی یکسان گوش کنید و از کسی نترسید؛ زیرا داوری از طرف خداوند است. اگر حل مسئله‌ای برای شما مشکل باشد آن را نزد من بیاورید و من به آن رسیدگی می‌کنم.

¹⁸I commanded you at that time all the things which you should do.

¹⁸ «در همان وقت برای همهٔ کارهایی که باید انجام دهید، دستوراتی صادر کردم.

¹⁹We traveled from Horeb, and went through all that great and terrible wilderness which you saw, by the way to the hill country of the Amorites, as Yahweh our God commanded us; and we came to Kadesh Barnea.

¹⁹ «طبق امر خداوند خدای خود، از کوه سینا حرکت کردیم و از بیابان وسیع و وحشتناک عبور نموده به کوهستان اموریان رفتیم. وقتی به قادش برنیع رسیدیم

²⁰I said to you, “You have come to the hill country of the Amorites, which Yahweh our God gives to us.

²⁰ به شما گفتم که خداوند خدای ما، این سرزمین را به ما داده است. حالا بروید و طبق فرمان خداوند خدای نیاکانتان، آن را تصاحب کنید. نترسید و هراس به دل خود راه ندهید.

²¹Behold, Yahweh your God has set the land before you: go up, take possession, as Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has spoken to you; don’t be afraid, neither be dismayed.”

²¹ «آنگاه همه پیش من آمدید و گفتید: 'بیایید چند نفر را پیشتر به آنجا بفرستیم تا آن سرزمین را بررسی کنند و بعد به ما خبر بدهند که از کدام طریق می‌توانیم به آن سرزمین داخل شویم و با چه شهرهایی روبه‌رو می‌شویم.'

²²You came near to me everyone of you, and said, “Let us send men before us, that they may search the land for us, and bring us word again of the way by which we must go up, and the cities to which we shall come.”

²² «من با پیشنهاد شما موافقت کردم و دوازده نفر، یعنی یک نفر از هر طایفه انتخاب نمودم.

²³The thing pleased me well; and I took twelve men of you, one man for every tribe:

²³ آنها به راه افتادند و از کوهستان‌ها گذشته به وادی اشکول رفتند و آنجا را بررسی کردند.

²⁴and they turned and went up into the hill country, and came to the valley of Eshcol, and spied it out.

²⁴ آنها برگشتند و نمونه‌هایی از میوه‌های آن سرزمین را با خود آوردند و گزارش دادند، آن سرزمینی را که خداوند خدای ما، به ما داده است سرزمینی حاصلخیز است.

²⁵They took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down to us, and brought us word again, and said, “It is a good land which Yahweh our God gives to us.”

²⁵ «امّا شما از ورود به آنجا امتناع نموده از فرمان خداوند سرکشی کردید.

²⁶Yet you wouldn’t go up, but rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh your God:

²⁶ در خیمه‌هایتان از یکدیگر به شکایت پرداختید و گفتید: 'چون خداوند از ما نفرت داشت، ما را از سرزمین مصر بیرون آورد تا ما را به دست اموریان تسلیم کند و از بین ببرد.

²⁷and you murmured in your tents, and said, “Because Yahweh hated us, he has brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us.

²⁷ چرا به آنجا برویم؟ برادران ما که به آنجا رفتند، با خبرهایی که آوردند، ما را ترساندند؛ زیرا گفتند که مردان آن سرزمین قویتر و قد بلندتر از ما هستند و دیوارهای شهرهایشان سر به فلک کشیده است و همچنین آنها آدمهای غول‌پیکری را که از فرزندان عناق هستند را هم در آنجا دیده‌اند.'

²⁸Where are we going up? our brothers have made our heart to melt, saying, ‘The people are greater and taller than we; the cities are great and fortified up to the sky; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakim there.’”

²⁸ «امّا من به شما گفتم که هراسان نباشید و از آن مردم نترسید.

²⁹Then I said to you, “Don’t dread, neither be afraid of them.

²⁹ خداوند خدای شما، راهنمای شماست و همان‌طور که قبلاً در مصر و همچنین در این بیابان در برابر چشمان شما جنگید، حالا هم برای شما جنگ می‌کند.

³⁰Yahweh your God who goes before you, he will fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes,

³⁰ در بیابان دیدید که چگونه شما را در امنیّت به اینجا آورد؛ مانند پدری که فرزندش را حمل می‌کند.

³¹and in the wilderness, where you have seen how that Yahweh your God bore you, as a man does bear his son, in all the way that you went, until you came to this place.”

³¹ امّا با همهٔ اینها و با وجودی که پیشاپیش شما حرکت می‌کرد تا جای مناسبی برای اقامت شما پیدا کند، بازهم شما به خداوند اعتماد نکردید.

³²Yet in this thing you didn’t believe Yahweh your God,

³² او قبل از شما حرکت کرد تا مکانی برای اردوی شما بیابد. او در سراسر سفر، در شب به وسیلهٔ ستونی از آتش و در روز با ستونی از ابر، شما را راهنمایی فرمود.

³³who went before you in the way, to seek you out a place to pitch your tents in, in fire by night, to show you by what way you should go, and in the cloud by day.

³³ «وقتی خداوند شکایت شما را شنید، خشمگین شد و قسم خورد و فرمود:

³⁴Yahweh heard the voice of your words, and was angry, and swore, saying,

³⁴ 'حتّی یک نفر هم از شما نسل شریر، روی آن سرزمینی را که من وعدهٔ مالکیّتش را به نیاکان شما داده بودم، نخواهد دید

³⁵“Surely not one of these men of this evil generation shall see the good land, which I swore to give to your fathers,

³⁵ به غیراز کالیب پسر یفنه، که چون از من اطاعت کامل نمود. آن زمینی را که بررسی کرده است به او و فرزندانش می‌بخشم.'

³⁶except Caleb the son of Jephunneh: he shall see it; and to him will I give the land that he has trodden on, and to his children, because he has wholly followed Yahweh.”

³⁶ به‌خاطر شما، خداوند از من نیز خشمگین شد و فرمود: 'تو هم به آن سرزمین داخل نخواهی شد.

³⁷Also Yahweh was angry with me for your sakes, saying, “You also shall not go in there:

³⁷ به جای تو، یوشع پسر نون که معاون توست، قوم اسرائیل را هدایت می‌کند. پس او را تشویق کن چون او رهبری قوم اسرائیل را در تصرّف آن سرزمین به عهده خواهد گرفت.'

³⁸Joshua the son of Nun, who stands before you, he shall go in there: encourage you him; for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

³⁸ «سپس خداوند به همهٔ ما فرمود: 'فرزندان شما که هنوز بسیار جوان هستند و فرق خوب و بد را نمی‌دانند وارد آن سرزمین خواهند شد. کودکانی که شما گفتید اسیر دشمنان می‌شوند. من سرزمین را به آنها خواهم داد تا در آن ساکن شوند.

³⁹Moreover your little ones, whom you said should be a prey, and your children, who this day have no knowledge of good or evil, they shall go in there, and to them will I give it, and they shall possess it.

³⁹ امّا شما حالا بازگردید و از راهی که به طرف دریای سرخ می‌رود به بیابان بروید.'

⁴⁰But as for you, turn, and take your journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds .”

⁴⁰ «آنگاه شما گفتید: 'ما در برابر خداوند گناه کرده‌ایم، امّا اکنون می‌رویم و طبق فرمان خداوند می‌جنگیم.' پس همهٔ شما برای جنگ آماده شدید و فکر می‌کردید که به آسانی می‌توانید آن ناحیهٔ کوهستانی را تسخیر کنید.

⁴¹Then you answered and said to me, “We have sinned against Yahweh, we will go up and fight, according to all that Yahweh our God commanded us.” Every man of you put on his weapons of war, and presumed to go up into the hill country.

⁴¹ «خداوند به من فرمود که به شما بگویم که جنگ نکنید؛ زیرا خداوند با شما نمی‌رود و دشمن، شما را شکست می‌دهد.

⁴²Yahweh said to me, “Tell them, ‘Don’t go up, neither fight; for I am not among you; lest you be struck before your enemies.’”

⁴² من آنچه را که خداوند به من فرمود به شما گفتم، امّا شما توجّه نکردید. شما از روی غرور، در مقابل خداوند ایستادگی کردید و برای جنگ به کوهستان رفتید.

⁴³So I spoke to you, and you didn’t listen; but you rebelled against the commandment of Yahweh, and were presumptuous, and went up into the hill country.

⁴³ سپس اموریانی که ساکنان آنجا بودند، به مقابلهٔ شما آمدند و مانند زنبور شما را دنبال کردند و شما را از اَدوم تا حُرما شکست دادند.

⁴⁴The Amorites, who lived in that hill country, came out against you, and chased you, as bees do, and beat you down in Seir, even to Hormah.

⁴⁴ آنگاه شما برگشتید و در حضور خداوند گریه کردید، ولی خداوند به فریاد شما گوش نداد. «بعد شما مدّت مدیدی در قادش ماندید.

⁴⁵You returned and wept before Yahweh; but Yahweh didn’t listen to your voice, nor gave ear to you.

⁴⁵ «بعد شما مدّت مدیدی در قادش ماندید.

⁴⁶So you stayed in Kadesh many days, according to the days that you remained.
