¹Then we turned, and took our journey into the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds , as Yahweh spoke to me; and we encircled Mount Seir many days.

¹ آنگاه طبق امر خداوند بازگشتیم و از راهی که به طرف دریای سرخ می‌رود به بیابان رفتیم. سالهای زیادی در نواحی اَدوم سرگردان بودیم. ‌

²Yahweh spoke to me, saying,

² «سپس خداوند به من فرمود که:

³“You have encircled this mountain long enough. Turn northward.

³ به اندازهٔ کافی در این سرزمین کوهستانی سرگردان بوده‌اید، حالا به طرف شمال بروید.

⁴Command the people, saying, ‘You are to pass through the border of your brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they will be afraid of you: take good heed to yourselves therefore;

⁴ و به مردم فرمان بده و بگو: شما بزودی از سرزمینی که به خویشاوندان شما یعنی پسران عیسو که در اَدوم ساکنند خواهید گذشت، ایشان از شما خواهند ترسید. پس احتیاط کنید.

⁵don’t contend with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as for the sole of the foot to tread on; because I have given Mount Seir to Esau for a possession.

⁵ با آنها جنگ نکنید، زیرا من حتّی یک وجب از زمین ایشان را به شما نخواهم داد، چون من تمام سرزمین کوهستانی اَدوم را به عیسو داده‌ام.

⁶You shall purchase food of them for money, that you may eat; and you shall also buy water of them for money, that you may drink.’”

⁶ در آنجا برای غذا و آبی که مصرف می‌کنید، باید پول بپردازید.

⁷For Yahweh your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand; he has known your walking through this great wilderness: these forty years Yahweh your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.

⁷ «خداوند خدایتان، در تمام مدّت چهل سالی که در این بیابان وسیع، سرگردان بوده‌اید در هر قدم، مراقب شما بوده از هر جهت به شما برکت داده است و به هیچ چیزی محتاج نبوده‌اید.

⁸So we passed by from our brothers the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, from the way of the Arabah from Elath and from Ezion Geber. We turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

⁸ «پس ما از سرحد اَدوم که خویشاوندان ما، یعنی فرزندان عیسو در آن زندگی می‌کردند، عبور نمودیم و بعد از جاده‌ای که به طرف ایلت و عصیون جابر می‌رود گذشته رو به شمال به طرف بیابان موآب حرکت کردیم.

⁹Yahweh said to me, “Don’t bother Moab, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give you of his land for a possession; because I have given Ar to the children of Lot for a possession.”

⁹ خداوند به من فرمود: 'موجب آزار و اذیّت موآبیان که فرزندان لوط هستند، نشوید و با آنها جنگ نکنید، زیرا من از زمین آنها چیزی به شما نمی‌دهم، چون شهر عار را به آنها بخشیده‌ام.'»

¹⁰(The Emim lived therein before, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim:

¹⁰ (یکی از طایفه‌های غولها که قبلاً در آنجا سکونت داشتند، ایمیان بودند

¹¹these also are accounted Rephaim, as the Anakim; but the Moabites call them Emim.

¹¹ که مثل غولهای عناقی قدی بلند داشتند. ایمیان مانند عناقیان، اصلاً از رفائیان بودند، امّا موآبیان آنها را ایمی می‌خواندند.

¹²The Horites also lived in Seir before, but the children of Esau succeeded them; and they destroyed them from before them, and lived in their place; as Israel did to the land of his possession, which Yahweh gave to them.)

¹² حوریان هم قبلاً در اَدوم زندگی می‌کردند، امّا فرزندان عیسو آنها را بیرون رانده همه را از بین بردند و سرزمین ایشان را اشغال کردند، همان‌طور که اسرائیل، سرزمین مردم کنعان را که خداوند به آنها داده بود، تصرّف کرد.)

¹³“Now rise up, and cross over the brook Zered.” We went over the brook Zered.

¹³ «بعد به امر خداوند از وادی زارَد عبور کردیم.

¹⁴The days in which we came from Kadesh Barnea, until we had come over the brook Zered, were thirty-eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from the midst of the camp, as Yahweh swore to them.

¹⁴ از ترک قادش برنیع تا عبور از بیابان زارد، سی و هشت سال گذشت. همان‌طور که خداوند فرموده بود، در این مدّت تمام مردان جنگی ما از بین رفتند.

¹⁵Moreover the hand of Yahweh was against them, to destroy them from the midst of the camp, until they were consumed.

¹⁵ دست خداوند برضد آنها دراز بود تا اینکه همه را هلاک کرد.

¹⁶So it happened, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people,

¹⁶ «بعد از آن که تمام مردان جنگی مردند،

¹⁷that Yahweh spoke to me, saying,

¹⁷ خداوند به من فرمود:

¹⁸“You are this day to pass over Ar, the border of Moab:

¹⁸ 'امروز باید از طریق عار از سرحد موآب عبور کنید.

¹⁹and when you come near over against the children of Ammon, don’t bother them, nor contend with them; for I will not give you of the land of the children of Ammon for a possession; because I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession.”

¹⁹ وقتی به سرحد عمونیان نزدیک شدید، به آنها آزار نرسانید و از جنگ با آنها خودداری کنید، زیرا من سرزمین آنها را به شما نمی‌دهم، چون آنجا را به فرزندان لوط بخشیده‌ام.'»

²⁰(That also is accounted a land of Rephaim: Rephaim lived therein before; but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim,

²⁰ (نام دیگر این ناحیه رفائیم است، یعنی نام مردمی که در آنجا زندگی می‌کردند. عمونیان ایشان را زمزمیان می‌خواندند.

²¹a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim; but Yahweh destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place;

²¹ رفائیان قومی بزرگ و قدرتمند و مانند عناقیان قد بلند بودند. امّا خداوند ایشان را نابود کرد تا عمونیان بر ایشان غلبه کرده در سرزمین آنان ساکن شوند.

²²as he did for the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place even to this day:

²² خداوند به فرزندان عیسو هم به همین ترتیب کمک کرد و حوریان را که پیش از آنها در اَدوم سکونت داشتند، از بین برد و فرزندان عیسو تا به امروز به جای آنها در آن ناحیه زندگی می‌کنند.

²³and the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and lived in their place.)

²³ سرزمین ساحل مدیترانه نیز محل سکونت اهالی جزیرهٔ کریت شده بود. ایشان عویان را نابود کرده بر سرزمین ایشان به سوی جنوب تا شهر غزه ساکن شدند.)

²⁴“Rise up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of the Arnon: behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.

²⁴ «پس از اینکه از سرزمین موآب گذشتیم، خداوند فرمود: 'از وادی ارنون عبور کنید و با سیحون، پادشاه حشبون بجنگید. من او را با سرزمینش به دست شما تسلیم می‌کنم.

²⁵This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you on the peoples who are under the whole sky, who shall hear the report of you, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you.”

²⁵ امروز وحشت را در دل مردم ایجاد می‌نمایم تا همه‌کس در همه‌جای دنیا از شما بترسند و وقتی نام شما را بشنوند به وحشت بیفتند.'

²⁶I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying,

²⁶ «پس من از بیابان قدیموت، نمایندگان خود را پیش سیحون، پادشاه حشبون فرستادم و با این پیام پیشنهاد صلح کردم:

²⁷“Let me pass through your land: I will go along by the highway, I will turn neither to the right hand nor to the left.

²⁷ 'اگر به ما اجازه بدهی که از سرزمینت عبور کنیم، ما تنها از شاهراه به سفر خود ادامه می‌دهیم و از آن به چپ یا راست قدم نمی‌گذاریم.

²⁸You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only let me pass through on my feet,

²⁸ غذا و آب خود را از شما می‌خریم. چیزی که از شما می‌خواهیم اجازهٔ عبور از خاک شماست و بس.

²⁹as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me; until I shall pass over the Jordan into the land which Yahweh our God gives us.”

²⁹ فرزندان عیسو که در اَدوم سکونت دارند و همینطور موآبیان که در عار زندگی می‌کنند به ما اجازهٔ عبور از سرزمین خود را دادند. ما از طریق رود اردن به سرزمینی که خداوند به ما داده است، می‌رویم.'

³⁰But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him; for Yahweh your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as at this day.

³⁰ «امّا سیحون، پادشاه حشبون به ما اجازهٔ عبور نداد. خداوند او را سرسخت و لجوج ساخت تا ما او را شکست بدهیم و سرزمین او را تسخیر کرده، در آن ساکن شویم که تا امروز نیز هستیم.

³¹Yahweh said to me, “Behold, I have begun to deliver up Sihon and his land before you: begin to possess, that you may inherit his land.”

³¹ «آنگاه خداوند به من فرمود: 'من سیحون و سرزمین او را در برابر شما عاجز ساخته‌ام؛ پس بروید و برای تصرّف آن دست به کار شوید.'

³²Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Jahaz.

³² وقتی سیحون با لشکر خود برای جنگ به یاهص آمد،

³³Yahweh our God delivered him up before us; and we struck him, and his sons, and all his people.

³³ خداوند خدای ما، او را به دست ما تسلیم کرد و ما او را همراه با فرزندان و تمام مردمش کشتیم.

³⁴We took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed every inhabited city, with the women and the little ones; we left none remaining:

³⁴ بعد از آن که شهرهای او را تصرّف کردیم، همهٔ مردان، زنان و کودکان را بکلّی از بین بردیم و هیچ‌کسی را زنده نگذاشتیم.

³⁵only the livestock we took for a prey to ourselves, with the spoil of the cities which we had taken.

³⁵ تنها گلّه‌ها را به عنوان غنیمت برای خود نگه داشتیم و شهرهایی را که تسخیر کرده بودیم، غارت کردیم.

³⁶From Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, and the city that is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was not a city too high for us; Yahweh our God delivered up all before us:

³⁶ از عروعیر که در کنار وادی ارنون است تا جلعاد، همهٔ شهرها را و همچنین شهری را که در میان درّه بود، تصرّف کردیم و هیچ شهری در برابر ما مقاومت نکرد؛ زیرا خداوند خدای ما، همه را در دستهای ما گذاشته بود. امّا به سرزمین عمونیان و ناحیه وادی یبوق و شهرهای کوهستانی که خداوند ما را از رفتن به آنها منع کرده بود، نزدیک نشدیم.

³⁷only to the land of the children of Ammon you didn’t come near; all the side of the river Jabbok, and the cities of the hill country, and wherever Yahweh our God forbade us.

³⁷ امّا به سرزمین عمونیان و ناحیه وادی یبوق و شهرهای کوهستانی که خداوند ما را از رفتن به آنها منع کرده بود، نزدیک نشدیم.
