¹Now, Israel, listen to the statutes and to the ordinances, which I teach you, to do them; that you may live, and go in and possess the land which Yahweh, the God of your fathers, gives you.

¹ سپس موسی به قوم گفت: «حالا ای قوم اسرائیل به قوانینی که به شما یاد می‌دهم به دقّت گوش بدهید تا زنده بمانید و بتوانید به سرزمینی که خداوند خدای اجدادتان به شما داده است وارد شوید و آن را تصاحب کنید.

²You shall not add to the word which I command you, neither shall you diminish from it, that you may keep the commandments of Yahweh your God which I command you.

² شما نباید به احکامی‌ که به شما می‌دهم بیافزایید و یا از آنها کم کنید، بلکه فقط همین احکامی‌ را که از جانب خداوند خدایتان می‌باشد، بجا آورید.

³Your eyes have seen what Yahweh did because of Baal Peor; for all the men who followed Baal Peor, Yahweh your God has destroyed them from the midst of you.

³ شما به چشم خود دیدید که خداوند چطور در بعل فغور تمام کسانی را که بت بعل را پرستش کردند، از بین برد.

⁴But you who were faithful to Yahweh your God are all alive this day.

⁴ امّا چون شما به خداوند خدای خود، وفادار بودید تا امروز زنده ماندید.

⁵Behold, I have taught you statutes and ordinances, even as Yahweh my God commanded me, that you should do so in the midst of the land where you go in to possess it.

⁵ «طبق فرمان خداوند خدای خود، تمام قوانین او را به شما تعلیم داده‌ام. هنگامی که سرزمین را تسخیر کردید از آنها پیروی نمایید.

⁶Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the peoples, who shall hear all these statutes, and say, “Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.”

⁶ اگر از آنها با دل و جان اطاعت کنید، پیش مردم در داشتن حکمت و بصیرت مشهور می‌شوید و چون مردم کشورهای دیگر این قوانین را بشنوند، بگویند: 'این قوم بزرگ واقعاً دارای حکمت و بصیرت هستند.'

⁷For what great nation is there, that has a god so near to them, as Yahweh our God is whenever we call on him?

⁷ «زیرا کدام قومی، هرقدر هم بزرگ باشد، مثل ما خدایی دارد که هر وقتی‌که به حضور او دعا کنند، به آنها نزدیک باشد و دعایشان را فوراً قبول فرماید؟

⁸What great nation is there, that has statutes and ordinances so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?

⁸ کدام ملّتی، هرقدر هم بزرگ باشد، قوانینی این چنین عادلانه که امروز به شما دادم، دارد؟

⁹Only take heed to yourself, and keep your soul diligently, lest you forget the things which your eyes saw, and lest they depart from your heart all the days of your life; but make them known to your children and your children’s children;

⁹ لیکن احتیاط کنید و متوجّه باشید، مبادا در طول زندگی خود چیزهایی را که با چشمان خود دیده‌اید فراموش کنید؛ بلکه به فرزندان و نوه‌های خود یاد بدهید.

¹⁰the day that you stood before Yahweh your God in Horeb, when Yahweh said to me, “Assemble me the people, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they live on the earth, and that they may teach their children.”

¹⁰ آن روزی را به‌خاطر بیاورید که در کوه سینا در حضور خداوند ایستاده بودید، او به من فرمود: 'مردم را در حضور من جمع کن تا کلام مرا بشنوند و بیاموزند که تا زنده هستند به من احترام بگذارند و بتوانند فرزندان خود را تعلیم بدهند.'

¹¹You came near and stood under the mountain; and the mountain burned with fire to the heart of the sky, with darkness, cloud, and thick darkness.

¹¹ «شما نزدیک آمده در دامنه کوه ایستادید درحالی‌که ابرهای سیاه و غلیظی کوه را پوشانیده بودند و شعله‌های آتش از آن به آسمان زبانه می‌کشیدند.

¹²Yahweh spoke to you out of the midst of the fire: you heard the voice of words, but you saw no form; you only heard a voice.

¹² آنگاه خداوند از میان آتش با شما صحبت کرد و شما تنها آواز کلام او را شنیدید، امّا خودش را ندیدید.

¹³He declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even the ten commandments; and he wrote them on two tables of stone.

¹³ او پیمانی را که عبارت است از احکام ده‌گانهٔ او، بر دو لوح سنگی نوشت و به شما داد تا از آنها اطاعت کنید.

¹⁴Yahweh commanded me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances, that you might do them in the land where you go over to possess it.

¹⁴ آنگاه خداوند به من امر فرمود تا آن قوانین را به شما تعلیم بدهم که وقتی به سرزمینی که نزدیک به تصرّف و اشغال آن هستید، رسیدید از آنها پیروی نمایید.

¹⁵Take therefore good heed to yourselves; for you saw no kind of form on the day that Yahweh spoke to you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire.

¹⁵ «در آن روزی که خداوند در کوه سینا از بین آتش با شما صحبت کرد، هیچ شکل و صورتی را ندیدید، پس احتیاط کنید

¹⁶Lest you corrupt yourselves, and make yourself an engraved image in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female,

¹⁶ که با ساختن بت به هر شکل، چه زن چه مرد،

¹⁷the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the sky,

¹⁷ و چه به صورت حیوان یا پرنده،

¹⁸the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth;

¹⁸ خزنده یا ماهی، خود را آلوده نسازید.

¹⁹and lest you lift up your eyes to the sky, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, even all the army of the sky, you are drawn away and worship them, and serve them, which Yahweh your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole sky.

¹⁹ همچنین وقتی به آسمانها نگاه می‌کنید و آفتاب، مهتاب و ستارگان را می‌بینید، منحرف نشوید و آنها را سجده و پرستش نکنید. خداوند خدایتان آنها را برای تمام اقوام جهان ساخته است.

²⁰But Yahweh has taken you, and brought you forth out of the iron furnace, out of Egypt, to be to him a people of inheritance, as at this day.

²⁰ خداوند شما را از کورهٔ آهن، یعنی از مصر بیرون آورد تا قوم خاص او باشید، طوری که امروز هستید.

²¹Furthermore Yahweh was angry with me for your sakes, and swore that I should not go over the Jordan, and that I should not go in to that good land, which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance:

²¹ «خداوند به‌خاطر شما از من خشمگین شد و قسم خورد که من از رود اردن عبور نمی‌کنم و در آن سرزمین حاصلخیز که به شما داده است قدم نمی‌گذارم.

²²but I must die in this land, I must not go over the Jordan; but you shall go over, and possess that good land.

²² من در همین جا بدون آن که به آن طرف رود اردن بروم، می‌میرم؛ امّا البتّه شما برای تصرّف آن سرزمین حاصلخیز به آنجا می‌روید.

²³Take heed to yourselves, lest you forget the covenant of Yahweh your God, which he made with you, and make you an engraved image in the form of anything which Yahweh your God has forbidden you.

²³ پس احتیاط کنید تا پیمانی را که خداوند خدایتان، با شما بست، از یاد نبرید. هیچ نوع بُتی نسازید، زیرا خداوند خدایتان، شما را از این کار منع کرده است

²⁴For Yahweh your God is a devouring fire, a jealous God.

²⁴ و بدانید که او آتشِ سوزنده و خدای غیور است.

²⁵When you shall father children, and children’s children, and you shall have been long in the land, and shall corrupt yourselves, and make an engraved image in the form of anything, and shall do that which is evil in the sight of Yahweh your God, to provoke him to anger;

²⁵ «حتّی اگر سالها در آن سرزمین زندگی کنید و دارای فرزند و نوه شده باشید، خود را با ساختن بُتها آلوده نسازید. این در نظر خداوند پلید است و او را خشمناک می‌سازد.

²⁶I call heaven and earth to witness against you this day, that you shall soon utterly perish from off the land whereunto you go over the Jordan to possess it; you shall not prolong your days on it, but shall utterly be destroyed.

²⁶ من امروز آسمان و زمین را علیه شما شاهد می‌گیرم که اگر مرا اطاعت نکنید، بزودی از روی زمین محو خواهید شد. در سرزمین آن‌سوی رود اردن که بزودی آن را تصرّف خواهید کرد، مدّت زیادی زندگی نخواهید کرد.

²⁷Yahweh will scatter you among the peoples, and you shall be left few in number among the nations, where Yahweh shall lead you away.

²⁷ خداوند شما را در بین اقوام پراکنده می‌کند و تعداد شما را کم می‌سازد.

²⁸There you shall serve gods, the work of men’s hands, wood and stone, which neither see, nor hear, nor eat, nor smell.

²⁸ در آنجا بُتهایی را که از چوب و سنگ و به دست بشر ساخته شده‌اند، خواهید پرستید؛ بُتهایی که نه می‌بینند، نه می‌شنوند، نه می‌خورند و نه می‌بویند.

²⁹But from there you shall seek Yahweh your God, and you shall find him, when you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.

²⁹ در آنجا به دنبال خداوند خواهید گشت و اگر با تمام قلب خود به جستجوی او بپردازید، او را خواهید یافت.

³⁰When you are in oppression, and all these things have come on you, in the latter days you shall return to Yahweh your God, and listen to his voice:

³⁰ هنگامی‌که شما در دشواری هستید و همهٔ این وقایع رخ دهد، شما به سوی خداوند باز خواهید گشت و از صدای او اطاعت خواهید کرد.

³¹for Yahweh your God is a merciful God; he will not fail you, neither destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which he swore to them.

³¹ خداوند بخشنده است. او شما را تنها نخواهد گذاشت و نابود نخواهد کرد و او پیمانی را که با نیاکان شما بسته است، فراموش نخواهد ‌کرد.

³²For ask now of the days that are past, which were before you, since the day that God created man on the earth, and from the one end of the sky to the other, whether there has been anything as this great thing is, or has been heard like it?

³² «گذشته را، یعنی زمان قبل از تولّدتان را، حتّی زمانی را که خداوند انسان را بر روی زمین آفرید، جستجو کنید. همهٔ زمین را جستجو کنید، آیا هرگز چنین امر عظیمی واقع شده یا کسی چیزی مانند این شنیده است؟

³³Did a people ever hear the voice of God speaking out of the midst of the fire, as you have heard, and live?

³³ آیا قومی هرگز صدای خداوند را در میان آتش شنیده که هنوز زنده باشد؟

³⁴Or has God tried to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by trials, by signs, and by wonders, and by war, and by a mighty hand, and by an outstretched arm, and by great terrors, according to all that Yahweh your God did for you in Egypt before your eyes?

³⁴ آیا هرگز خدایی کوشش کرده است تا برود و قومی را از میان قومی دیگر برای خود برگزیند، همان‌گونه که خداوند خدای شما، این کار را برای شما در مصر انجام داد؟ در برابر چشمان شما، او قدرت عظیم خود را به کار برد. او بلا و جنگ آورد، نشانه‌ها و شگفتی‌ها انجام داد و باعث اتّفاق حوادث وحشتناک شد.

³⁵It was shown to you so that you might know that Yahweh is God. There is no one else besides him.

³⁵ خداوند این چیزها را به شما نشان داد تا بدانید خداوند خدای شماست و خدای دیگری به جز او وجود ندارد.

³⁶Out of heaven he made you to hear his voice, that he might instruct you: and on earth he made you to see his great fire; and you heard his words out of the midst of the fire.

³⁶ او گذاشت تا صدای او را از آسمان بشنوید تا شما را تأدیب کند و در زمین، آتشِ عظیم خود را به شما نشان داد و شما کلام او را از میان آتش شنیدید.

³⁷Because he loved your fathers, therefore he chose their seed after them, and brought you out with his presence, with his great power, out of Egypt;

³⁷ زیرا او نیاکان شما را دوست داشت و فرزندان ایشان را برگزید و شما را در حضور خود و با قدرت عظیمش از مصر خارج کرد.

³⁸to drive out nations from before you greater and mightier than you, to bring you in, to give you their land for an inheritance, as at this day.

³⁸ و اقوامی را که بزرگتر و نیرومندتر از شما بودند، بیرون راند تا شما را وارد کند و سرزمین آنها را به شما بدهد، چنانکه امروز است.

³⁹Know therefore this day, and lay it to your heart, that Yahweh he is God in heaven above and on the earth beneath; there is none else.

³⁹ پس حالا بدانید و فراموش نکنید که خداوند خدای آسمانها و همچنین خدای روی زمین است و به غیراز او خدای دیگری وجود ندارد.

⁴⁰You shall keep his statutes, and his commandments, which I command you this day, that it may go well with you, and with your children after you, and that you may prolong your days in the land, which Yahweh your God gives you, forever.

⁴⁰ شما باید از فرمانهای او که امروز به شما می‌دهم پیروی کنید تا خود و فرزندان شما کامیاب گردید و برای همیشه در سرزمینی که خداوند خدایتان به شما داده است، زندگی کنید.»

⁴¹Then Moses set apart three cities beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise;

⁴¹ بعد موسی سه شهر را در شرق رود اردن تعیین کرد

⁴²that the manslayer might flee there, who kills his neighbor unawares, and didn’t hate him in time past; and that fleeing to one of these cities he might live:

⁴² تا اگر کسی مرتکب قتل ناخواستهٔ شخصی شد که دشمن او نبوده است، برای فرار از خطر مرگ به یکی از آنها پناه ببرد.

⁴³Bezer in the wilderness, in the plain country, for the Reubenites; and Ramoth in Gilead, for the Gadites; and Golan in Bashan, for the Manassites.

⁴³ این شهرها عبارت بودند از: باصر در همواری بیابان برای طایفهٔ رئوبین، راموت، در جلعاد برای طایفهٔ جاد و جولان، در باشان برای طایفهٔ منسی.

⁴⁴This is the law which Moses set before the children of Israel:

⁴⁴ موسی این احکام و قوانین را هنگامی که قوم از سرزمین مصر خارج شدند و در شرق درّهٔ اردن، مقابل بیت فغور اقامت داشتند، به آنها داد.

⁴⁵these are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Moses spoke to the children of Israel, when they came forth out of Egypt,

⁴⁵ این همان سرزمینی بود که سیحون، پادشاه اموریان در آن سلطنت می‌کرد و پایتخت آن، شهر حشبون بود. موسی و قوم اسرائیل سیحون را با مردمش مغلوب ساختند.

⁴⁶beyond the Jordan, in the valley over against Beth Peor, in the land of Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon, whom Moses and the children of Israel struck, when they came forth out of Egypt.

⁴⁶ قوم اسرائیل سرزمین سیحون و همچنین سرزمین عوج پادشاه باشان را که هر دو از پادشاهان اموری در شرق رود اردن بودند، اشغال کردند.

⁴⁷They took his land in possession, and the land of Og king of Bashan, the two kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise;

⁴⁷ این سرزمین از عروعیر در کنار وادی ارنون تا کوه سریون که همان حرمون است امتداد داشت و شامل تمام منطقهٔ شرق رود اردن بود که از جنوب به دریای مُرده و از مشرق به کوهپایهٔ کوه فسجه منتهی می‌شود.

⁴⁸from Aroer, which is on the edge of the valley of the Arnon, even to Mount Sion (the same is Hermon),

⁴⁸ و شامل تمام منطقهٔ شرق رود اردن بود که از جنوب به دریای مُرده و از مشرق به کوهپایهٔ کوه فسجه منتهی می‌شود.

⁴⁹and all the Arabah beyond the Jordan eastward, even to the sea of the Arabah, under the slopes of Pisgah.
