¹Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

¹ خداوند به موسی فرمود:

²“Sanctify to me all of the firstborn, whatever opens the womb among the children of Israel, both of man and of animal. It is mine.”

² «تمام نخستزاده‌های مذکر را برای من وقف کن. زیرا هر نخستزادهٔ مذکری که در میان بنی‌اسرائیل متولّد شود، چه انسان و چه حیوان، از آن من است.»

³Moses said to the people, “Remember this day, in which you came out from Egypt, out of the house of bondage; for by strength of hand Yahweh brought you out from this place. No leavened bread shall be eaten.

³ موسی به مردم گفت: «این روز را به‌خاطر بسپارید، روزی که از مصر بیرون آمدید، یعنی از جایی که در آن برده و غلام بودید. این روزی است که خداوند شما را با دست نیرومند خود بیرون آورد. نانی که خمیرمایه دارد نخورید.

⁴This day you go out in the month Abib.

⁴ شما در این روز اول ماه ابیب از مصر بیرون آمدید.

⁵It shall be, when Yahweh shall bring you into the land of the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Amorite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, which he swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this service in this month.

⁵ خداوند به اجداد شما وعده داده است که سرزمین کنعانیان، حِتّیان، اموریان، حویان و یبوسیان را به شما بدهد. وقتی‌که او شما را به آن سرزمین غنی و حاصلخیز می‌آورد، شما باید در اولین روز هر سال این روز را جشن بگیرید.

⁶Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be a feast to Yahweh.

⁶ هفت روز نان فطیر بخورید و روز هفتم را به احترام خداوند جشن بگیرید.

⁷Unleavened bread shall be eaten throughout the seven days; and no leavened bread shall be seen with you, neither shall yeast be seen with you, in all your borders.

⁷ هفت روز نان فطیر بخورید و هیچ خمیرمایه یا نان خمیرمایه‌دار نزد شما و در تمامی ‌سرزمین شما نباشد.

⁸You shall tell your son in that day, saying, ‘It is because of that which Yahweh did for me when I came out of Egypt.’

⁸ وقتی این مراسم را بجا می‌آورید، برای پسران خود تعریف کنید که همهٔ اینها به‌خاطر کاری است که خداوند هنگامی که از مصر بیرون می‌آمدید کرده است.

⁹It shall be for a sign to you on your hand, and for a memorial between your eyes, that the law of Yahweh may be in your mouth; for with a strong hand Yahweh has brought you out of Egypt.

⁹ این مراسم برای شما مانند نشانه‌ای بر دست و یادگاری بر پیشانیتان باشد تا همیشه قوانین خداوند را در نظر داشته ‌باشید. زیرا خداوند شما را با قدرت عظیم خود از مصر بیرون آورد.

¹⁰You shall therefore keep this ordinance in its season from year to year.

¹⁰ این عید را هر سال در موقع خودش جشن بگیرید.

¹¹“It shall be, when Yahweh shall bring you into the land of the Canaanite, as he swore to you and to your fathers, and shall give it you,

¹¹ «خداوند چنانکه به اجداد شما وعده داده بود، شما را به سرزمین کنعان می‌برد. در آن موقع

¹²that you shall set apart to Yahweh all that opens the womb, and every firstborn which you have that comes from an animal. The males shall be Yahweh’s.

¹² شما باید تمام نخستزادگان مذکر را برای خداوند وقف کنید. همچنین تمام نخستزاده‌های نرینهٔ حیوانات شما از آن خداوند است.

¹³Every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb; and if you will not redeem it, then you shall break its neck; and you shall redeem all the firstborn of man among your sons.

¹³ ولی به جای نخستزادهٔ الاغ یک برّه تقدیم کن و اگر نخواستی برّه تقدیم کنی، گردن او را بشکن. ولی به جای نخستزادهٔ پسرت فدیه‌ای بده.

¹⁴It shall be, when your son asks you in time to come, saying, ‘What is this?’ that you shall tell him, ‘By strength of hand Yahweh brought us out from Egypt, from the house of bondage;

¹⁴ در آینده، وقتی پسران تو بپرسند که معنی این کار چیست؟ بگو: 'خداوند ما را با دست نیرومند خود از مصر، جایی‌که در آن بندگی می‌کردیم، بیرون آورد.

¹⁵and it happened, when Pharaoh would hardly let us go, that Yahweh killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man, and the firstborn of animal. Therefore I sacrifice to Yahweh all that opens the womb, being males; but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’

¹⁵ چون فرعون سرسختی کرد و نخواست ما را آزاد کند، خداوند تمام نخستزاده‌های مذکر را چه انسان و چه حیوان در سرزمین مصر کشت. به همین دلیل است که ما تمام نخستزاده‌های نرینهٔ حیوانات را برای خداوند قربانی می‌کنیم. ولی به جای پسران نخستزاده فدیه می‌دهیم.

¹⁶It shall be for a sign on your hand, and for symbols between your eyes: for by strength of hand Yahweh brought us out of Egypt.”

¹⁶ این مراسم برای تو مانند نشانه‌ای بر دستت و یادگاری در مقابل چشمانت بر پیشانیت باشد که خداوند با قدرت خود ما را از سرزمین مصر بیرون آورد.'»

¹⁷It happened, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God didn’t lead them by the way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and they return to Egypt”;

¹⁷ وقتی فرعون بنی‌اسرائیل را آزاد کرد، خدا آنها را از راه سرزمین فلسطین نبرد، هرچند که آن كوتاه‌ترین راه بود. زیرا خدا فرمود مبادا وقتی‌که ببینند مجبور هستند جنگ کنند، پشیمان شوند و به مصر بازگردند.

¹⁸but God led the people around by the way of the wilderness by the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds ; and the children of Israel went up armed out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁸ پس آنها را از راه صحراهای اطراف دریای سرخ برد. بنابراین بنی‌اسرائیل مسلّح شدند و از مصر بیرون آمدند.

¹⁹Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had made the children of Israel swear, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones away from here with you.”

¹⁹ موسی استخوانهای یوسف را با خود برداشت، چون یوسف بنی‌اسرائیل را قسم داده بود که وقتی خدا شما را از اینجا آزاد کرد، استخوانهای مرا هم با خودتان از اینجا ببرید.

²⁰They took their journey from Succoth, and encamped in Etham, in the edge of the wilderness.

²⁰ بنی‌اسرائیل از سُكوّت کوچ کردند و در ایتام در کنار صحرا اردو زدند.

²¹Yahweh went before them by day in a pillar of cloud, to lead them on their way, and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light, that they might go by day and by night:

²¹ خداوند روزها در ستونی ابر پیشاپیش آنها می‌رفت تا راه را به آنها نشان دهد و شبها در ستونی آتش تا راه آنها را روشن کند تا آنها بتوانند شب و روز راه بروند. همیشه، روزها ستون ابر و شبها ستون آتش در جلوی آنها بود.

²²the pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire by night, didn’t depart from before the people.
