1Sarah lived one hundred twenty-seven years. This was the length of Sarah’s life.

سارا صد و بیست و هفت سال زندگی كرد.
2Sarah died in Kiriath Arba (the same is Hebron), in the land of Canaan. Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

او در حبرون در سرزمین کنعان مرد و ابراهیم برای مرگ او ماتم گرفت.
3Abraham rose up from before his dead, and spoke to the children of Heth, saying,

ابراهیم جایی را كه بدن همسرش در آنجا بود، ترک كرد و به نزد حِتّیان رفت و گفت:
4“I am a stranger and a foreigner living with you. Give me a possession of a burying-place with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”

«من در بین شما یک نفر غریبه هستم. یک قطعه زمین به من بفروشید تا همسر خود را در آن دفن كنم.»
5The children of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,

آنها جواب دادند:
6“Hear us, my lord. You are a prince of God among us. Bury your dead in the best of our tombs. None of us will withhold from you his tomb. Bury your dead.”

«ای آقا به سخنان ما گوش بده. ما تو را به چشم یک رهبر پر قدرت نگاه میكنیم. همسر خود را در بهترین قبرهایی كه ما داریم، دفن كن. همهٔ ما خوشحال خواهیم شد كه یک قبر به تو بدهیم تا همسرت را در آن دفن كنی.»
7Abraham rose up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.

ابراهیم پیش آنها تعظیم كرد
8He talked with them, saying, “If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight, hear me, and entreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,

و گفت: «اگر شما به من لطف دارید و مایل هستید كه همسر خود را اینجا دفن كنم، لطفاً از عفرون پسر سوحار
9that he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he has, which is in the end of his field. For the full price let him give it to me among you for a possession of a burying-place.”

بخواهید كه غار مكفیله را كه كنار مزرعهاش میباشد، به من بفروشد. از او بخواهید كه آن را در مقابل همهٔ شما به تمام قیمت به من بفروشد تا صاحب آن غار بشوم.»
10Now Ephron was sitting in the middle of the children of Heth. Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the children of Heth, even of all who went in at the gate of his city, saying,

عفرون خودش در آن جلسه با سایر حِتّیان در دروازهٔ شهر نشسته بود. او به طوری كه همهٔ حاضرین در آنجا بشنوند، جواب داد:
11“No, my lord, hear me. I give you the field, and I give you the cave that is in it. In the presence of the children of my people I give it to you. Bury your dead.”

«ای آقا، گوش بده. من تمام مزرعه و غاری را كه در آن است به تو میدهم. اینجا در حضور تمام افراد قبیلهام، آن را به تو میدهم تا اینكه همسر خود را در آن دفن كنی.»
12Abraham bowed himself down before the people of the land.

امّا ابراهیم در مقابل حتیان تعظیم كرد
13He spoke to Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, “But if you will, please hear me. I will give the price of the field. Take it from me, and I will bury my dead there.”

و طوری که همه بشنوند به عفرون گفت: «خواهش میكنم به حرفهای من گوش بده. من تمام مزرعه را خواهم خرید. قیمت زمین را از من قبول كن و من همسر خود را در آنجا دفن خواهم كرد.»
14Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,

عفرون جواب داد:
15“My lord, listen to me. What is a piece of land worth four hundred shekels of silver between me and you? Therefore bury your dead.”

«ای آقا، قیمت زمین فقط چهار صد تکهٔ نقره است. این بین ما چه ارزشی دارد؟ همسر خود را در آن دفن كن.»
16Abraham listened to Ephron. Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver which he had named in the audience of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, according to the current merchants’ standard.

ابراهیم موافقت كرد و قیمتی را كه عفرون گفته بود مطابق وزنی كه در بازار آن روز رایج بود به عفرون داد. یعنی چهارصد تکهٔ نقره كه عفرون در مقابل همهٔ افراد قبیلهٔ خود تعیین كرده بود.
17So the field of Ephron, which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, the cave which was in it, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all of its borders, were deeded

به این ترتیب، املاک عفرون كه در مكفیله در مشرق ممری بود، به ابراهیم رسید. این مِلک عبارت بود از یک مزرعه و غاری كه در آن بود و تمام درختان مزرعه تا كنار زمین.
18to Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.

این ملک در مقابل تمام حِتّیانی كه در آن مجلس حاضر بودند، به عنوان مِلک ابراهیم شناخته شد.
19After this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre (that is, Hebron), in the land of Canaan.

بعد ابراهیم همسرش سارا را در آن غار در سرزمین کنعان دفن كرد.
بنابراین مزرعهای كه مال حِتّیان بود و غاری كه در آن بود به نام آرامگاه به ملكیّت ابراهیم درآمد.
20The field, and the cave that is in it, were deeded to Abraham for a possession of a burying place by the children of Heth.
