¹The word which came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all the captives of Jerusalem and Judah, who were carried away captive to Babylon.

¹ بعد از آنکه نبوزرادان، فرماندهٔ ارتش مرا در رامه آزاد کرد، بار دیگر خداوند با من سخن گفت. مرا در زنجیر، همراه تمام کسانی‌که از اورشلیم و یهودا به وسیلهٔ بابلی‌ها اسیر شده بودند، به آنجا برده بودند.

²The captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said to him, Yahweh your God pronounced this evil on this place;

² فرمانده مرا به کناری بُرد و گفت: «خداوند خدای شما، این سرزمین را به نابودی تهدید کرده بود

³and Yahweh has brought it, and done according as he spoke: because you have sinned against Yahweh, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing has come on you.

³ و اکنون آنچه را که گفته بود انجام داده است و این‌همه‌ چیزها به‌خاطر گناهان قوم شما علیه خداوند و عدم اطاعت شما از اوست.

⁴Now, behold, I release you this day from the chains which are on your hand. If it seems good to you to come with me into Babylon, come, and I will take care of you; but if it seems bad to you to come with me into Babylon, don’t: behold, all the land is before you; where it seems good and right to you to go, there go.

⁴ اکنون زنجیرها را از دستهای تو باز می‌کنم و تو را آزاد می‌کنم اگر بخواهی می‌توانیم با هم به بابل برویم و من در آنجا از تو مراقبت خواهم کرد. امّا اگر نمی‌خواهی بروی، مجبور نیستی. تو می‌توانی هرجا را که می‌خواهی، در تمام این سرزمین انتخاب کنی و به هرجایی که مایل باشی بروی.»

⁵Now while he had not yet gone back, Go back then, he said, to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon has made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people; or go wherever it seems right to you to go. So the captain of the guard gave him food and a present, and let him go.

⁵ وقتی جوابی ندادم نبوزرادان گفت: «به نزد جدلیا پسر اخیقام و نوهٔ شافان که پادشاه بابل او را به فرمانداری شهرهای یهودا برگزیده است، برو. تو می‌توانی به آنجا بروی و در میان قوم خودت زندگی کنی، یا به هرجایی که دوست داری.» بعد او یک هدیه و مقداری غذا به من داد تا با خود ببرم و به راه خود بروم.

⁶Then went Jeremiah to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah, and lived with him among the people who were left in the land.

⁶ من به نزد جدلیا در مصفه رفتم و در آنجا در بین مردمی که باقی مانده بودند زندگی کردم.

⁷Now when all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed to him men, and women, and children, and of the poorest of the land, of those who were not carried away captive to Babylon;

⁷ بعضی از افسران و سربازان یهودا تسلیم نشده بودند. آنها شنیدند که پادشاه بابل جدلیا را به سمت فرماندار سرزمین گماشته و مسئولیّت امور تمام مردمی که به اسارت برده نشده بودند -‌یعنی فقیرترین طبقات مردم- را به او داده است.

⁸then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of the Maacathite, they and their men.

⁸ پس اسماعیل پسر نتنیا، یوحانان و یوناتان پسران قاریح، سرایا پسر تَنحُومَت، پسران عیفای نطوفاتی، یَزَنیا پسر مکانی با افراد تحت نظرشان به نزد جدلیا در مصفه رفتند.

⁹Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan swore to them and to their men, saying, Don’t be afraid to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

⁹ جدلیا به آنها گفت: «من سلامت شما را تضمین می‌کنم. شما نباید از تسلیم شدن به بابلی‌ها هراسی داشته باشید. در این سرزمین ساکن شوید و پادشاه بابل را خدمت کنید و همه‌چیز برای خیریّت شما خواهد بود.

¹⁰As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to stand before the Chaldeans who shall come to us: but you, gather wine and summer fruits and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that you have taken.

¹⁰ من خودم در مصفه خواهم ماند و وقتی بابلی‌ها به اینجا بیایند، من به نمایندگی شما با آنها طرف خواهم شد. امّا شما می‌توانید شراب، میوه و روغن زیتون را ذخیره کنید و در دهاتی که تصرّف کرده‌اید، زندگی نمایید.» ‌

¹¹Likewise when all the Jews who were in Moab, and among the children of Ammon, and in Edom, and who were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan;

¹¹ در همین حال تمام یهودیانی که در موآب، عمون، اَدوم و سایر نقاط زندگی می‌کردند، شنیدند که پادشاه بابل اجازه داده بعضی از یهودیان در یهودا باقی بمانند و جدلیا را به فرمانداری آنها گماشته است.

¹²then all the Jews returned out of all places where they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, to Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.

¹² پس آنها از جاهایی که پراکنده شده بودند، به یهودا برگشتند. آنها به نزد جدلیا در مصفه رفتند و در آنجا مقدار زیادی شراب و میوه جمع کردند.

¹³Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

¹³ پس از آن، یوحانان و فرماندهان سربازانی که تسلیم نشده بودند، نزد جدلیا در مصفه آمدند

¹⁴and said to him, Do you know that Baalis the king of the children of Ammon has sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to take your life? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam didn’t believe them.

¹⁴ و به او گفتند: «آیا نمی‌دانی که بَعلیس، پادشاه عمونیان، اسماعیل را فرستاده تا تو را بکشد؟» امّا جدلیا آن را باور نکرد.

¹⁵Then Johanan the son of Kareah spoke to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Please let me go, and I will kill Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: why should he take your life, that all the Jews who are gathered to you should be scattered, and the remnant of Judah perish?

¹⁵ آنگاه یوحانان در خفا به او گفت: «بگذار من بروم و اسماعیل را بکشم، و هیچ‌کس نخواهد فهمید که چه کسی این کار را کرده است. چرا او تو را بکشد؟ این کار باعث می‌شود، تمام یهودیانی که دور تو جمع شده‌اند، پراکنده شوند و مصیبتی برای تمام کسانی‌که در یهودا باقی مانده‌اند به وجود آورد.» امّا جدلیا گفت: «چنین کاری نکن! چیزی که تو دربارهٔ اسماعیل می‌گویی حقیقت ندارد!»

¹⁶But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said to Johanan the son of Kareah, You shall not do this thing; for you speak falsely of Ishmael.

¹⁶ امّا جدلیا گفت: «چنین کاری نکن! چیزی که تو دربارهٔ اسماعیل می‌گویی حقیقت ندارد!»
