¹The word that Yahweh spoke concerning Babylon, concerning the land of the Chaldeans, by Jeremiah the prophet.

¹ این است پیامی که خداوند دربارهٔ بابل و مردمش به من داد:

²Declare among the nations and publish, and set up a standard; publish, and don’t conceal: say, Babylon is taken, Bel is disappointed, Merodach is dismayed; her images are disappointed, her idols are dismayed.

² «این خبر را به همهٔ ملّتها برسانید! و آن را اعلام کنید! به همه علامت بدهید و این خبر را برسانید! آن را پنهان نکنید! بابل سقوط کرده! و خدایش مَردوک درهم شکسته است! بُتهای بابل رسوا و تصاویر برجستهٔ آنها خرد شده‌اند.

³For out of the north there comes up a nation against her, which shall make her land desolate, and none shall dwell therein: they are fled, they are gone, both man and animal.

³ ملّتی از شمال برای حمله به بابل آمده و آن را به بیابان تبدیل خواهد کرد. مردان و حیوانات فرار می‌کنند و دیگر در آن زندگی نخواهند کرد.

⁴In those days, and in that time, says Yahweh, the children of Israel shall come, they and the children of Judah together; they shall go on their way weeping, and shall seek Yahweh their God.

⁴ خداوند می‌گوید: «وقتی آن زمان فرا رسد، مردم اسرائیل و یهودا با هم اشک‌ریزان به دنبال من، خدایشان خواهند بود.

⁵They shall inquire concerning Zion with their faces turned toward it, saying, Come, and join yourselves to Yahweh in an everlasting covenant that shall not be forgotten.

⁵ آنها راه صهیون را می‌پرسند و به همان راه می‌روند. آنها با من عهدی ابدی خواهند بست و هرگز آن را نخواهند شکست.

⁶My people have been lost sheep: their shepherds have caused them to go astray; they have turned them away on the mountains; they have gone from mountain to hill; they have forgotten their resting place.

⁶ «قوم من مانند گوسفندانی هستند که شبانانشان اجازه دادند، آنها در کوهها گُم شوند. آنها مانند گوسفندان سرگردان هستند واز یک کوه به کوه دیگر می‌روند، امّا آنها فراموش کرده‌اند خانهٔ آنها کجاست.

⁷All who found them have devoured them; and their adversaries said, We are not guilty, because they have sinned against Yahweh, the habitation of righteousness, even Yahweh, the hope of their fathers.

⁷ هرکس آنها را می‌دید، به آنها حمله می‌کرد. دشمنانشان می‌گویند: 'آنها علیه خداوند گناه ورزیده‌اند، پس ما هرچه کرده‌ایم، غلط نیست. اجدادشان به خداوند اعتماد کردند، پس آنها هم باید نسبت به او امین و باوفا می‌بودند!'

⁸Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and go forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, and be as the male goats before the flocks.

⁸ «ای قوم اسرائیل از دست بابلی‌ها بگریزید! آن سرزمین را ترک کنید! جلوتر از همه آنجا را ترک کنید.

⁹For, behold, I will stir up and cause to come up against Babylon a company of great nations from the north country; and they shall set themselves in array against her; from there she shall be taken: their arrows shall be as of an expert mighty man; none shall return in vain.

⁹ من گروهی از ملّتهای مقیم شمال را برمی‌‌انگیزم و آنها را وادار می‌کنم تا به بابل حمله کنند. آنها علیه آن کشور به صف ایستاده‌اند تا آن را فتح کنند. آنها شکارچیان ماهری هستند که هیچ‌گاه تیر آنها به خطا نمی‌رود.

¹⁰Chaldea shall be a prey: all who prey on her shall be satisfied, says Yahweh.

¹⁰ بابل تاراج خواهد شد و تاراج کنندگان همه‌چیز را با خود خواهند برد.

¹¹Because you are glad, because you rejoice, O you who plunder my heritage, because you are wanton as a heifer that treads out the grain, and neigh as strong horses;

¹¹ خداوند می‌گوید: «ای مردم بابل، شما قوم مرا غارت کردید. شما مانند گاوی خرمنکوب و مثل اسبی که شیهه می‌کشد، جست و خیز می‌کنید و شاد و خوشحال هستید.

¹²your mother shall be utterly disappointed; she who bore you shall be confounded: behold, she shall be the least of the nations, a wilderness, a dry land, and a desert.

¹² امّا شهر بزرگ خوار و رسوا خواهد شد. بابل اهمیّت خود را در میان ملّتها از دست خواهد داد و به بیابانی خشک و بی‌آب مبدّل خواهد شد.

¹³Because of the wrath of Yahweh she shall not be inhabited, but she shall be wholly desolate: everyone who goes by Babylon shall be astonished, and hiss at all her plagues.

¹³ به‌خاطر خشم من دیگر کسی در بابل زندگی نخواهد کرد، چنان ویران خواهد شد که هرکس از آنجا بگذرد دچار بُهت و حیرت خواهد شد.

¹⁴Set yourselves in array against Babylon all around, all you who bend the bow; shoot at her, spare no arrows: for she has sinned against Yahweh.

¹⁴ «ای کمانداران، برای جنگ بابل و محاصرهٔ آن، صف‌آرایی کنید. تیرهای خود را به سوی بابل نشانه بگیرید، چون بابل نسبت به من، خداوند، گناه ورزیده است.

¹⁵Shout against her all around: she has submitted herself; her bulwarks are fallen, her walls are thrown down; for it is the vengeance of Yahweh: take vengeance on her; as she has done, do to her.

¹⁵ شیپور جنگ را در اطراف شهر به صدا درآورید! بابل تسلیم شده است. دیوارهایش درهم شکسته و خراب شده‌اند. من از مردم بابل انتقام می‌گیرم. پس شما هم از آنها انتقام بگیرید و با آنها همان‌طور رفتار کنید که با شما رفتار کرده‌اند.

¹⁶Cut off the sower from Babylon, and him who handles the sickle in the time of harvest: for fear of the oppressing sword they shall turn everyone to his people, and they shall flee everyone to his own land.

¹⁶ اجازه ندهید در این سرزمین بذری کاشته یا محصولی برداشت شود. تمام بیگانگانی که در آن زندگی می‌کنند از ارتش مهاجم خواهند ترسید و به سرزمینهای خود برخواهند گشت.»

¹⁷Israel is a hunted sheep; the lions have driven him away: first, the king of Assyria devoured him; and now at last Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has broken his bones.

¹⁷ خداوند می‌گوید: «قوم اسرائیل مانند گوسفندانی هستند که شیرها در تعقیبشان بودند و آنها را پراکنده کرده‌اند. اول امپراتور آشور به آنها حمله کرد، و بعد از آن نبوکدنصر پادشاه بابل استخوانهای آنها را خُرد کرد.

¹⁸Therefore thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: Behold, I will punish the king of Babylon and his land, as I have punished the king of Assyria.

¹⁸ به‌ این‌خاطر، من خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل، نبوکدنصر پادشاه و کشورش را مجازات خواهم کرد، به همان نحوی که امپراتور آشور را به جزای کارهایش رسانیدم.

¹⁹I will bring Israel again to his pasture, and he shall feed on Carmel and Bashan, and his soul shall be satisfied on the hills of Ephraim and in Gilead.

¹⁹ من قوم اسرائیل را به سرزمین خودشان برمی‌گردانم. آنها غذایی را خواهند خورد که در کوه کرمل و در ناحیه باشان می‌روید، و آنها هرقدر بخواهند می‌توانند از محصولات سرزمینهای افرایم و جلعاد بخورند.

²⁰In those days, and in that time, says Yahweh, the iniquity of Israel shall be sought for, and there shall be none; and the sins of Judah, and they shall not be found: for I will pardon them whom I leave as a remnant.

²⁰ در آن زمان دیگر نه گناهی در اسرائیل یافت می‌شود و نه ظلمی در یهودا، چون من کسانی را که جانشان را حفظ نموده‌ام، خواهم بخشید. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»

²¹Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: kill and utterly destroy after them, says Yahweh, and do according to all that I have commanded you.

²¹ خداوند می‌گوید: «به مردم مراتایم و فقود حمله کنید. آنها را بکشید و نابود کنید. هرچه به شما دستور می‌دهم انجام دهید. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.

²²A sound of battle is in the land, and of great destruction.

²² فریادهای جنگ در تمام سرزمین شنیده می‌شود و ویرانی بزرگی به وجود آمده است.

²³How is the hammer of the whole earth cut apart and broken! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

²³ بابل تمام جهان را با پُتک قطعه‌قطعه کرد و اکنون آن پُتک، خودش را خُرد کرده است. تمام ملّتها از آنچه بر سر بابل آمده در حیرت هستند.

²⁴I have laid a snare for you, and you are also taken, Babylon, and you weren’t aware: you are found, and also caught, because you have striven against Yahweh.

²⁴ ای بابل، تو علیه من جنگیدی و عاقبت در دامی که من برایت گسترده‌ بودم و تو از آن بی‌خبر بودی، افتادی.

²⁵Yahweh has opened his armory, and has brought forth the weapons of his indignation; for the Lord, Yahweh of Armies, has a work to do in the land of the Chaldeans.

²⁵ من زرّادخانهٔ خود را گشودم و از روی خشم، آنها را بیرون آوردم چون من خداوند متعال، هنوز کارم با بابل تمام نشده است.

²⁶Come against her from the utmost border; open her storehouses; cast her up as heaps, and destroy her utterly; let nothing of her be left.

²⁶ از هر طرف به آن حمله کنید و درهای انبارهای غلاّت را بگشایید! غنیمت‌های جنگی را مثل خرمنهای غلاّت جمع کنید! این کشور را ویران کنید! هیچ چیز را باقی نگذارید.

²⁷Kill all her bulls; let them go down to the slaughter: woe to them! for their day has come, the time of their visitation.

²⁷ تمام سربازانشان را بکشید، آنها را قتل عام کنید! مردم بابل محکوم به فنا هستند. زمان مجازات آنها فرا رسیده است!»

²⁸The voice of those who flee and escape out of the land of Babylon, to declare in Zion the vengeance of Yahweh our God, the vengeance of his temple.

²⁸ (پناهندگانی که از بابل فرار می‌کنند و به اورشلیم می‌آیند، می‌گویند خداوند چگونه از مردم بابل به‌خاطر آنچه در معبد بزرگ کرده بودند، انتقام گرفت.)

²⁹Call together the archers against Babylon, all those who bend the bow; encamp against her all around; let none of it escape: recompense her according to her work; according to all that she has done, do to her; for she has been proud against Yahweh, against the Holy One of Israel.

²⁹ «به کمانداران بگویید به بابل حمله کنید و نگذارید هیچ‌کس فرار کند. آن را به جزای کارهایش برسانید، و با او همان‌طور رفتار کنید که او با دیگران رفتار کرده است، چون او با غرور علیه من، تنها قدّوس اسرائیل عمل نموده است.

³⁰Therefore her young men will fall in her streets, and all her men of war will be brought to silence in that day, says Yahweh.

³⁰ از این رو مردان جوانش در کوچه‌های شهر کشته خواهند شد، و تمام سربازانش در آن روز از بین خواهند رفت. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.

³¹Behold, I am against you, you proud one, says the Lord, Yahweh of Armies; for your day has come, the time that I will visit you.

³¹ «ای بابل، تو بسیار مغرور شده‌ای، پس من، خداوند، خدای متعال علیه تو هستم! زمان آن رسیده که تو را تنبیه کنم.

³²The proud one shall stumble and fall, and none shall raise him up; and I will kindle a fire in his cities, and it shall devour all who are around him.

³² ملّت مغرور تو لغزش می‌خورند و خواهند افتاد و هیچ‌کس به تو کمک نمی‌کند که دوباره بلند شوی. من شهرهای تو را به آتش خواهم کشید و هرچه در اطراف آنهاست از بین خواهند رفت.»

³³Thus says Yahweh of Armies: The children of Israel and the children of Judah are oppressed together; and all who took them captive hold them fast; they refuse to let them go.

³³ خداوند متعال می‌گوید: «بر مردم اسرائیل و یهودا بسیار ظلم شده است. کسانی‌که آنها را اسیر کرده‌اند، به دقّت مواظب آنها هستند و نمی‌گذارند آنها بروند.

³⁴Their Redeemer is strong; Yahweh of Armies is his name: he will thoroughly plead their cause, that he may give rest to the earth, and disquiet the inhabitants of Babylon.

³⁴ امّا کسی‌که آنها را آزاد می‌سازد قوی است و نامش خداوند متعال می‌باشد. او خودش از آنها دفاع خواهد کرد و صلح و آرامش را بر تمام روی زمین و ناآرامی و آشوب را در بابل به وجود خواهد آورد.»

³⁵A sword is on the Chaldeans, says Yahweh, and on the inhabitants of Babylon, and on her princes, and on her wise men.

³⁵ خداوند می‌گوید: «بابل، مردم آن، فرمانروایان و حکیمانش همه مستوجب مرگ می‌باشند.

³⁶A sword is on the boasters, and they shall become fools; a sword is on her mighty men, and they shall be dismayed.

³⁶ مرگ بر آن انبیای دروغین و احمق آنها! مرگ بر‌ آن سربازان ترسو و وحشتزدهٔ آنها!

³⁷A sword is on their horses, and on their chariots, and on all the mixed people who are in the midst of her; and they shall become as women: a sword is on her treasures, and they shall be robbed.

³⁷ اسبان و ارّابه‌های آن را از بین ببرید! مرگ بر آن سربازان مزدور بی‌عرضهٔ آنها! خزانه‌‌های آنها را خراب و ذخایر آنها را به غارت ببرید.

³⁸A drought is on her waters, and they shall be dried up; for it is a land of engraved images, and they are mad over idols.

³⁸ سرزمین آنها را گرفتار خشکسالی و رودهای آن را بخشکانید. بابل سرزمین بُتهای وحشتناکی است که مردمانش را فریفته‌اند.

³⁹Therefore the wild animals of the desert with the wolves shall dwell there, and the ostriches shall dwell therein: and it shall be no more inhabited forever; neither shall it be lived in from generation to generation.

³⁹ «از این رو بابل مسکن حیوانات وحشی و کفتارها و پرندگان ناپاک خواهد بود. دیگر هیچ‌وقت کسی در آن زندگی نخواهد کرد و برای همیشه متروک خواهد بود.

⁴⁰As when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbor cities of it, says Yahweh, so shall no man dwell there, neither shall any son of man live therein.

⁴⁰ بابل دچار همان سرنوشتی خواهد شد که سدوم و غموره را گرفتار کردم، وقتی‌که آنها را با تمام شهرهای اطرافشان از بین ببرم. دیگر هرگز کسی در آن زندگی نخواهد کرد. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.

⁴¹Behold, a people comes from the north; and a great nation and many kings shall be stirred up from the uttermost parts of the earth.

⁴¹ «مردمی از کشوری در شمال می‌آیند، ملّتی قوی و از جاهای دور، پادشاهان زیادی برای جنگ آماده می‌شوند.

⁴²They lay hold on bow and spear; they are cruel, and have no mercy; their voice roars like the sea; and they ride on horses, everyone set in array, as a man to the battle, against you, daughter of Babylon.

⁴² آنها کمانها و نیزه‌‌های خود را برداشته‌اند، آنها ظالم و بی‌رحمند. فریاد آنها مثل دریای خروشان است، و سوار بر اسب پیش می‌روند. آنها آمادهٔ جنگ با بابل هستند.

⁴³The king of Babylon has heard the news of them, and his hands wax feeble: anguish has taken hold of him, pains as of a woman in labor.

⁴³ پادشاه بابل این خبر را می‌شنود، و دستهایش سست می‌شود. تشویش او را فرا می‌گیرد و دردی مثل درد زنی در حال زایمان او را فرا می‌گیرد.

⁴⁴Behold, the enemy shall come up like a lion from the pride of the Jordan against the strong habitation: for I will suddenly make them run away from it; and whoever is chosen, him will I appoint over it: for who is like me? and who will appoint me a time? and who is the shepherd who can stand before me?

⁴⁴ من، خداوند، مثل شیری که از بیشه‌ای در کنار رود اردن بیرون می‌آید و به طرف چمنزارها می‌رود، تمام بابلی‌ها را مجبور می‌کنم به طور ناگهانی از شهر خودشان فرار کنند. آنگاه رهبری که من انتخاب می‌کنم، بر آن ملّت حکومت خواهد کرد. چه کسی را می‌توانید با من مقایسه کنید؟ چه کسی جرأت دارد مرا به مبارزه بطلبد؟ چه فرمانروایی می‌تواند با من مخالفت نماید؟

⁴⁵Therefore hear the counsel of Yahweh, that he has taken against Babylon; and his purposes, that he has purposed against the land of the Chaldeans: Surely they shall drag them away, even the little ones of the flock; surely he shall make their habitation desolate over them.

⁴⁵ پس به نقشه‌ای که من علیه شهر بابل کشیدم و به آنچه می‌خواهم بر سر مردم بابل بیاورم گوش کنید. حتّی کودکان آنها را بزور خواهند برد و همه وحشتزده خواهند شد. وقتی بابل سقوط کند چنان سر و صدایی برمی‌خیزد که تمام زمین به لرزه خواهد افتاد و فریاد آنها را سایر ملّتها خواهند شنید.»

⁴⁶At the noise of the taking of Babylon the earth trembles, and the cry is heard among the nations.

⁴⁶ وقتی بابل سقوط کند چنان سر و صدایی برمی‌خیزد که تمام زمین به لرزه خواهد افتاد و فریاد آنها را سایر ملّتها خواهند شنید.»
