¹Thus says Yahweh: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against those who dwell in Lebkamai, a destroying wind.

¹ خداوند می‌گوید: «بادی ویران کننده بر بابل و مردم آن خواهد وزید.

²I will send to Babylon strangers, who shall winnow her; and they shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her around.

² من بیگانگان را می‌فرستم تا مثل بادی که کاهها را پراکنده می‌کند بابل را ویران کنند. وقتی آن روز ویرانی برسد، آنها از هر طرف حمله می‌کنند و شهر را لخت خواهند کرد.

³Against him who bends let the archer bend his bow, and against him who lifts himself up in his coat of mail: and don’t spare her young men; utterly destroy all her army.

³ به سربازانش فرصت ندهید تیرهای خود را از کمان رها کنند یا زره‌های خود را بپوشند. نگذارید هیچ‌یک از جوانان آنها زنده بماند! تمام ارتش را نابود کنید.

⁴They shall fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and thrust through in her streets.

⁴ آنها زخمی می‌شوند و در کوچه‌های شهرهای خودشان خواهند مرد.

⁵For Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah, of his God, of Yahweh of Armies; though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.

⁵ من، خداوند متعال، اسرائیل و یهودا را ترک نکرده‌ام، هرچند آنها علیه من، قدّوس اسرائیل، گناه ورزیده‌اند

⁶Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and save every man his life; don’t be cut off in her iniquity: for it is the time of Yahweh’s vengeance; he will render to her a recompense.

⁶ از بابل فرار کنید! برای نجات جانهایتان بگریزید! به‌خاطر گناه بابل خود را به کشتن ندهید. من اکنون انتقام خود را می‌گیرم و آن را به مجازاتی که مستوجب آن است خواهم رسانید.

⁷Babylon has been a golden cup in Yahweh’s hand, who made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

⁷ بابل مثل جامی زرّین در دست من بود که تمام جهان را مست می‌کرد. ملّتها از شراب او نوشیدند و عقل خود را از دست دادند.

⁸Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: wail for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

⁸ بابل ناگهان سقوط کرد و ویران شد! برای آن ماتم بگیرید! برای درمان زخمهای او در پی مرحم باشید، شاید بتوان آن را شفا داد.

⁹We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go everyone into his own country; for her judgment reaches to heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

⁹ بیگانگانی که در آنجا زندگی می‌کنند گفته‌اند: 'ما کوشیدیم به بابل کمک کنیم امّا دیگر خیلی دیر شده بود. بیایید اکنون اینجا را ترک کنیم و به وطن خود بازگردیم. خداوند با تمام قدرت خود بابل را مجازات کرده و آن را کاملاً ویران ساخته است.'»

¹⁰Yahweh has brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of Yahweh our God.

¹⁰ خداوند می‌گوید: «ای قوم من فریاد بزنید و بگویید: 'خداوند نشان داده که حق با ما بود. بیایید برویم و به مردم اورشلیم بگوییم خداوند خدای ما، چه کرده است.'»

¹¹Make sharp the arrows; hold firm the shields: Yahweh has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes; because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it: for it is the vengeance of Yahweh, the vengeance of his temple.

¹¹ خداوند پادشاهان ماد را برانگیخته است، چون می‌خواهد بابل را ویران کند. او به این نحو از کسانی‌که معبد بزرگ او را خراب کردند، انتقام می‌گیرد. فرماندهان سپاه فرمان می‌دهند و می‌گویند: «تیرهای خود را تیز کنید! سپرهای خود را آماده سازید!

¹²Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set the watchmen, prepare the ambushes; for Yahweh has both purposed and done that which he spoke concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

¹² علامت حمله به دیوارهای بابل را بدهید! پستهای نگهبانی و مراقبت را تقویت کنید! مردانی را در کمینگاهها بگذارید!» آنچه را که خداوند گفته بود به روز بابل می‌آورد، آورده است.

¹³You who dwell on many waters, abundant in treasures, your end has come, the measure of your covetousness.

¹³ بابل رودهای فراوان و ذخایر سرشاری دارد، امّا زمانش به پایان رسیده و رشتهٔ زندگی‌اش بریده شده است.

¹⁴Yahweh of Armies has sworn by himself, saying, Surely I will fill you with men, as with the canker worm; and they shall lift up a shout against you.

¹⁴ خداوند متعال به ذات خود سوگند یادکرده که او مردان بسیاری را برای هجوم به بابل می‌فرستد و آنها مانند دسته‌‌های ملخ به آن حمله خواهند کرد، و فریاد پیروزی بر‌می‌آورند.

¹⁵He has made the earth by his power, he has established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding has he stretched out the heavens:

¹⁵ خداوند با قدرت خود زمین را ساخت؛ و با حکمت خویش جهان را آفرید و آسمانها را گسترانید.

¹⁶when he utters his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he makes lightning for the rain, and brings forth the wind out of his treasuries.

¹⁶ به فرمان او آبهای بالای آسمان می‌غرّند؛ و ابرها را از کرانه‌های زمین می‌آورد. او درخشش برق را در باران ایجاد می‌کند و از خزانهٔ خود باد می‌فرستد.

¹⁷Every man has become brutish without knowledge. Every goldsmith is disappointed by his image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

¹⁷ با دیدن اینها مردم احساس حماقت و بی‌خردی می‌کنند، آنها که بت را می‌سازند سرخورده و سرافکنده خواهند شد، چون خدایانی که آنها ساختند دروغین و بی‌جان هستند.

¹⁸They are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

¹⁸ این بُتها بی‌ارزش و مسخره‌اند، وقتی خداوند برای تسویه حساب با آنها بیاید آنها همه نابود خواهند شد.

¹⁹The portion of Jacob is not like these; for he is the former of all things; and is the tribe of his inheritance: Yahweh of Armies is his name.

¹⁹ خدای یعقوب مثل آنها نیست؛ او خدایی است که همه‌چیز را آفرید، و قوم اسرائیل را به عنوان قوم خاص خودش برگزید. نام او خداوند متعال است.

²⁰You are my battle axe and weapons of war: and with you will I break in pieces the nations; and with you will I destroy kingdoms;

²⁰ خداوند می‌گوید: «ای بابل تو پُتکی هستی در دست من و سلاحی برای جنگ. من از تو برای درهم کوبیدن ملّتها و سلطنت‌ها استفاده کردم،

²¹and with you will I break in pieces the horse and his rider;

²¹ تا اسبها را به همراه اسب ‌سواران، و ارّابه‌ها را با ارّابه‌رانهای آنها درهم بشکنم،

²²and with you will I break in pieces the chariot and him who rides therein; and with you will I break in pieces man and woman; and with you will I break in pieces the old man and the youth; and with you will I break in pieces the young man and the virgin;

²² تا مردان و زنان را بکُشم، پیر و جوان را از دَم تیغ بگذرانم و پسران و دختران را نابود کنم.

²³and with you will I break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; and with you will I break in pieces the farmer and his yoke; and with you will I break in pieces governors and deputies.

²³ و تا چوپانان را به همراه رمه‌هایشان، و کشاورزان را با اسبهای شخم‌زنی آنها به قتل برسانم و تا فرمانروایان و بزرگان را خُرد و نابود کنم.»

²⁴I will render to Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, says Yahweh.

²⁴ خداوند می‌گوید: «تو خواهی دید که چگونه بابل و مردمش را به‌خاطر شرارتهای آنها نسبت به اورشلیم مکافات خواهم کرد.

²⁵Behold, I am against you, destroying mountain, says Yahweh, which destroys all the earth; and I will stretch out my hand on you, and roll you down from the rocks, and will make you a burnt mountain.

²⁵ ای بابل، تو مانند کوهی هستی که تمام دُنیا را نابود کرده، امّا من، خداوند که دشمن تو هستم، مانع تو می‌شوم، تو را مثل زمین هموار می‌کنم و تو را در خاکستر رها می‌کنم.

²⁶They shall not take of you a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but you shall be desolate for ever, says Yahweh.

²⁶ هیچ‌یک از سنگریزه‌هایی که از خرابه‌های تو می‌ریزد برای بنای ساختمانی دیگر به کار نخواهد رفت و تا ابد به صورت کویری باقی خواهی ماند. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.

²⁷Set up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz: appoint a marshal against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough canker worm.

²⁷ «علامت حمله را بدهید! شیپورها را به صدا درآورید تا ملّتها بشنوند. ملّتها را برای جنگ علیه بابل آماده کنید. به پادشاهان آرارات، مینی و اشکناز بگویید حمله کنند. فرماندهی را برای رهبری حمله انتخاب کنید. اسبها را مانند توده‌های ملخ بیاورید.

²⁸Prepare against her the nations, the kings of the Medes, its governors, and all its deputies, and all the land of their dominion.

²⁸ ملّتها را آمادهٔ جنگ با بابل کنید. پادشاهان ماد را به همراه رهبران و افسران آنها و تمام ارتش‌های کشورهای زیرنظرشان به آنجا بفرستید.

²⁹The land trembles and is in pain; for the purposes of Yahweh against Babylon do stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.

²⁹ زمین می‌لرزد و در خود می‌پیچد، چون خداوند نقشهٔ خود را اجرا می‌کند و بابل را به کویری مبدّل خواهند کرد، جایی که دیگر کسی نتواند در آن زندگی کند.

³⁰The mighty men of Babylon have forborne to fight, they remain in their strongholds; their might has failed; they are become as women: her dwelling places are set on fire; her bars are broken.

³⁰ سربازان بابلی دست از جنگ کشیده‌اند و در قلعه‌های خود مانده‌اند. آنها جرأت خود را از دست داده و مثل زنان شده‌اند. دروازه‌های شهر شکسته و خانه‌ها در آتش می‌سوزند.

³¹One runner will run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter:

³¹ قاصدها یکی پس از دیگری می‌دوند تا به پادشاه بابل بگویند که دشمن از تمام اطراف به داخل شهر رخنه کرده است.

³²and the passages are seized, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are frightened.

³² دشمن پُل روی رودخانه‌ها را گرفته و قلعه‌ها را به آتش کشیده است. سربازان بابلی هراسان شده‌اند.

³³For thus says Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing floor at the time when it is trodden; yet a little while, and the time of harvest shall come for her.

³³ بزودی دشمن آنها را مثل دانه‌های گندمی در خرمنکوب خُرد خواهد کرد. من، خداوند متعال، خدای اسرائیل، چنین گفته‌ام.»

³⁴Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon has devoured me, he has crushed me, he has made me an empty vessel, he has, like a monster, swallowed me up, he has filled his maw with my delicacies; he has cast me out.

³⁴ پادشاه بابل، اورشلیم را بُرید و خورد. او شهر را مثل یک کوزه خالی کرد، و مانند یک هیولا آن را بلعید. هرچه را خواست برد و بقیّه را دور ریخت.

³⁵The violence done to me and to my flesh be on Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and, My blood be on the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

³⁵ مردم صهیون خواهند گفت: «بابل مسئول خشونتهایی است که بر ما تحمیل شد.» مردم اورشلیم هم خواهند گفت: «بابل مسئول تمام ستمهایی است که ما تحمّل کرده‌ایم.»

³⁶Therefore thus says Yahweh: Behold, I will plead your cause, and take vengeance for you; and I will dry up her sea, and make her fountain dry.

³⁶ پس خداوند به مردم اورشلیم گفت: «من دفاع از شما را به عهده می‌گیرم و دشمنانتان را به‌خاطر آنچه با شما کردند مجازات خواهم کرد. من سرچشمهٔ آبهای بابل و رودهای آن را خشک خواهم کرد.

³⁷Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling place for jackals, an astonishment, and a hissing, without inhabitant.

³⁷ آن کشور به خرابه‌ای تبدیل می‌شود که فقط حیوانات وحشی در آن زندگی خواهند کرد. منظرهٔ وحشتناکی خواهد شد. دیگر کسی در آن زندگی نخواهد کرد و هر بیننده‌ای در حیرت خواهد افتاد.

³⁸They shall roar together like young lions; they shall growl as lions’ cubs.

³⁸ تمام مردم بابل مانند شیر می‌غرّند، و مانند شیر بچگان خُرناس می‌کشند.

³⁹When they are heated, I will make their feast, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, says Yahweh.

³⁹ آیا آنها پُر اشتها هستند؟ برای آنها ضیافتی برپا می‌کنم و همهٔ آنها را سرخوش و مست خواهم کرد. آنگاه آنها به خوابی فرو می‌روند که هیچ‌گاه از آن بیدار نخواهند شد.

⁴⁰I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with male goats.

⁴⁰ آنها را مثل گوسفند و بُز و قوچ برای سلاخی خواهم برد. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌‌ام.»

⁴¹How is Sheshach taken! and the praise of the whole earth seized! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

⁴¹ خداوند دربارهٔ بابل می‌گوید: «شهری که تمام جهان آن را می‌ستودند، تسخیر شده است! بابل برای سایر ملّتها چه منظرهٔ وحشتناکی شده‌ است!

⁴²The sea has come up on Babylon; she is covered with the multitude of its waves.

⁴² آب دریا، بابل را فراگرفته و امواج خروشانش آن را پوشانیده است.

⁴³Her cities are become a desolation, a dry land, and a desert, a land in which no man dwells, neither does any son of man pass thereby.

⁴³ شهرهایش منظرهٔ وحشتناکی را به وجود آورده‌اند و مثل بیابان خشک و بی‌آب و علف هستند، جایی که هیچ‌کس نه در آن زندگی می‌کند و نه از آنجا می‌گذرد.

⁴⁴I will execute judgment on Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he has swallowed up; and the nations shall not flow any more to him: yes, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

⁴⁴ من بِل خدای بابل را مجازات خواهم کرد و او را وادار می‌کنم هرچه را دزدیده پس بدهد. دیگر هیچ ملّتی او را پرستش نخواهد کرد. «دیوارهای بابل افتاده است.

⁴⁵My people, go away from the midst of her, and save yourselves every man from the fierce anger of Yahweh.

⁴⁵ ای مردم اسرائیل از آنجا فرار کنید. بگریزید و جانتان را از شدّت خشم من نجات دهید.

⁴⁶Don’t let your heart faint, neither fear for the news that shall be heard in the land; for news shall come one year, and after that in another year shall come news, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

⁴⁶ نگذارید به‌خاطر شایعاتی که می‌شنوید جرأت خودتان را از دست بدهید یا هراسان شوید. هرسال چیز تازه‌ای شایعه می‌شود؛ شایعات مربوط به خشونت در سرزمینی یا جنگ پادشاهی بابل با پادشاه دیگر.

⁴⁷Therefore behold, the days come, that I will execute judgment on the engraved images of Babylon; and her whole land shall be confounded; and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

⁴⁷ پس بزودی زمان آن خواهد رسید که من به حساب بُتهای بابل برسم. تمام کشور رسوا و مردمش کشته می‌شوند.

⁴⁸Then the heavens and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for joy over Babylon; for the destroyers shall come to her from the north, says Yahweh.

⁴⁸ وقتی بابل به دست مردمی که از شمال برای ویرانی آن می‌آیند، سقوط کند تمام موجودات در زمین و آسمان فریاد شادی برمی‌آورند.

⁴⁹As Babylon has caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the land.

⁴⁹ بابل باعث مرگ مردم در تمام جهان شد و اکنون بابل به‌خاطر مرگ بسیاری از قوم اسرائیل سقوط خواهد کرد. من، خداوند این را چنین‌ گفته‌ام.»

⁵⁰You who have escaped the sword, go, don’t stand still; remember Yahweh from afar, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

⁵⁰ خداوند به قوم خود در بابل چنین می‌گوید: «شما از مرگ نجات یافتید! اکنون بروید! تأخیر نکنید! هرچند از وطن خود دور هستید، دربارهٔ من، خداوند خودتان، بیندیشید و به یاد اورشلیم باشید.

⁵¹We are confounded, because we have heard reproach; confusion has covered our faces: for strangers have come into the sanctuaries of Yahweh’s house.

⁵¹ شما می‌گویید: «ما رسوا و شرمسار شده‌ایم، احساس درماندگی می‌کنیم، چون بیگانگان مکانهای مقدّس در معبد بزرگ ما را اشغال کرده‌اند.

⁵²Therefore behold, the days come, says Yahweh, that I will execute judgment on her engraved images; and through all her land the wounded shall groan.

⁵² در آن صورت من می‌گویم که وقت آن رسیده که به حساب بُتهای بابل برسم و زخمی‌ شدگان در سرتاسر کشور در ناله و شیون خواهند بود.

⁵³Though Babylon should mount up to the sky, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall destroyers come to her, says Yahweh.

⁵³ حتّی اگر بابل به آسمان صعود کند و در آن قلعهٔ محکمی بنا کند، من باز هم مردم را برای نابودی آن خواهم فرستاد. من، خداوند چنین گفته‌ام.»

⁵⁴The sound of a cry from Babylon, and of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!

⁵⁴ خداوند می‌گوید: «به فریادهای گریه و زاری از بابل گوش کنید، ماتم آنها را برای ویرانی سرزمین بشنوید.

⁵⁵For Yahweh lays Babylon waste, and destroys out of her the great voice; and their waves roar like many waters; the noise of their voice is uttered:

⁵⁵ من بابل را ویران می‌کنم و آن را در سکوت فرو می‌برم. ارتش‌ها مثل امواج خروشان هجوم می‌آورند و با فریادی بلند حمله می‌کنند.

⁵⁶for the destroyer has come on her, even on Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, their bows are broken in pieces; for Yahweh is a God of recompenses, he will surely requite.

⁵⁶ آنها برای ویرانی بابل آمده‌اند، سربازهایش دستگیر شده‌اند و کمانها‌هایشان شکسته‌اند. من خدایی هستم که شریر را مجازات می‌کند و بابل را کاملاً به جزای شرارتش خواهم رسانید.

⁵⁷I will make drunk her princes and her wise men, her governors and her deputies, and her mighty men; and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake up, says the King, whose name is Yahweh of Armies.

⁵⁷ من فرمانروایان، خردمندان، رهبران و سربازان آن را در مستی فرو می‌برم. آنها می‌خوابند و دیگر بیدار نخواهند شد. من پادشاه چنین گفته‌ام، من خداوند متعال هستم.

⁵⁸Thus says Yahweh of Armies: The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labor for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they shall be weary.

⁵⁸ دیوارهای مستحکم بابل فرو خواهد ریخت، و دروازه‌های بلند آن در آتش خواهد سوخت. زحمت ملّتها همه بیهوده و کوشش‌‌هایشان خسته‌کننده و بی‌ثمر است. من، خداوند متعال، چنین گفته‌ام.»

⁵⁹The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. Now Seraiah was chief quartermaster.

⁵⁹ سرایا -‌پسر نیریا- و نوهٔ محسیا، سرپرست امور شخصی صدقیای پادشاه بود. در چهارمین سال سلطنت صدقیا پادشاه یهودا، سریا به همراه پادشاه به بابل می‌رفت و بعضی دستورات را به او دادم.

⁶⁰Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come on Babylon, even all these words that are written concerning Babylon.

⁶⁰ من در کتابی، فهرست تمام ویرانی‌هایی که بابل قرار است متحمّل شود و سایر چیزها را دربارهٔ بابل نوشته بودم.

⁶¹Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When you come to Babylon, then see that you read all these words,

⁶¹ من به سریا گفتم: «وقتی به بابل رسیدی حتماً هرچه را در این طومار نوشته شده با صدای بلند برای همه بخوان.

⁶²and say, Yahweh, you have spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that none shall dwell therein, neither man nor animal, but that it shall be desolate forever.

⁶² بعد دعا کن و بگو: 'ای خداوند تو گفته‌ای که این مکان را ویران می‌کنی، به طوری که دیگر هیچ موجود زنده‌ای -‌نه انسان و نه حیوان- نتواند در آن زندگی کند، و آن تا ابد به صورت یک بیابان خواهد بود.'

⁶³It shall be, when you have made an end of reading this book, that you shall bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates:

⁶³ سریا، وقتی خواندن این کتاب را تمام کردی آنگاه آن را به سنگی ببند و آن را در رود فرات بیانداز. و بگو: 'این است آنچه به سر بابل خواهد آمد -غرق می‌شود و دیگر برنخواهد خواست- و این به‌خاطر بلایی است که خداوند بر بابل روا داشته است.'» پیامهای ارمیا اینجا به پایان می‌رسد.

⁶⁴and you shall say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again because of the evil that I will bring on her; and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

⁶⁴ و بگو: 'این است آنچه به سر بابل خواهد آمد -غرق می‌شود و دیگر برنخواهد خواست- و این به‌خاطر بلایی است که خداوند بر بابل روا داشته است.'» پیامهای ارمیا اینجا به پایان می‌رسد.
