¹“Surely there is a mine for silver, and a place for gold which they refine.

¹ نقره از معدن استخراج می‌شود و طلا را در کوره تصفیه می‌کنند.

²Iron is taken out of the earth, and copper is smelted out of the ore.

² آهن را از زمین به دست می‌آورند و مس را از ذوب کردن سنگها.

³Man sets an end to darkness, and searches out, to the furthest bound, the stones of obscurity and of thick darkness.

³ مردم در اعماق تاریکی جستجو می‌کنند و برای سنگهای معدنی تا دورترین نقطهٔ زمین به جستجو می‌پردازند.

⁴He breaks open a shaft away from where people live. They are forgotten by the foot. They hang far from men, they swing back and forth.

⁴ فراتر از جایی که کسی زندگی کند یا پای بشری به آنجا رسیده باشد و از طنابها خود را آویزان کرده به درون می‌روند.

⁵As for the earth, out of it comes bread; Underneath it is turned up as it were by fire.

⁵ سطح زمین خوراک به بار می‌آورد، درحالی‌که در زیر هستهٔ همین زمین، آتش مذاب نهفته است.

⁶Sapphires come from its rocks. It has dust of gold.

⁶ سنگهای زمین دارای یاقوت و خاک آن دارای طلا می‌باشد.

⁷That path no bird of prey knows, neither has the falcon’s eye seen it.

⁷ نه پرندگان شکاری راه آن معادن را می‌دانند و نه لاشخورها در بالای آنها پرواز کرده‌اند.

⁸The proud animals have not trodden it, nor has the fierce lion passed by there.

⁸ شیر و حیوان درندهٔ دیگری در آن جاها قدم نزده‌ است.

⁹He puts forth his hand on the flinty rock, and he overturns the mountains by the roots.

⁹ امّا مردم، سنگ خارا را می‌شکنند و کوهها را از بیخ می‌کنند،

¹⁰He cuts out channels among the rocks. His eye sees every precious thing.

¹⁰ صخره‌‌ها را می‌شکافند و سنگهای نفیس به دست می‌آورند.

¹¹He binds the streams that they don’t trickle. The thing that is hidden he brings forth to light.

¹¹ سرچشمهٔ دریاها را می‌کاوند و چیزهای نهفته را بیرون می‌آورند.

¹²“But where shall wisdom be found? Where is the place of understanding?

¹² امّا حکمت را در کجا می‌توان یافت و دانش در کجا پیدا می‌شود؟

¹³Man doesn’t know its price; Neither is it found in the land of the living.

¹³ انسان فانی راه آن را نمی‌داند و در دنیای زندگان پیدا نمی‌شود.

¹⁴The deep says, ‘It isn’t in me.’ The sea says, ‘It isn’t with me.’

¹⁴ اعماق اقیانوس‌ها می‌گویند که حکمت پیش ما نیست و در اینجا پیدا نمی‌شود.

¹⁵It can’t be gotten for gold, neither shall silver be weighed for its price.

¹⁵ حکمت را نمی‌توان با طلا خرید و ارزش آن بیشتر از نقره است،

¹⁶It can’t be valued with the gold of Ophir, with the precious onyx, or the sapphire or, lapis lazuli .

¹⁶ گرانبهاتر است از طلا و جواهرات نفیس.

¹⁷Gold and glass can’t equal it, neither shall it be exchanged for jewels of fine gold.

¹⁷ طلا و الماس را نمی‌توان با حکمت برابر کرد و با جواهر و طلای نفیس مبادله نمی‌شود.

¹⁸No mention shall be made of coral or of crystal. Yes, the price of wisdom is above rubies.

¹⁸ ارزش حکمت بمراتب بالاتر از مرجان و بلور و گرانتر از لعل است.

¹⁹The topaz of Ethiopia shall not equal it, Neither shall it be valued with pure gold.

¹⁹ یاقوت کبود و طلای خالص را نمی‌توان با حکمت مقایسه کرد.

²⁰Where then does wisdom come from? Where is the place of understanding?

²⁰ پس حکمت را از کجا می‌توان به دست آورد و منشأ دانش کجاست؟

²¹Seeing it is hidden from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the birds of the sky.

²¹ حکمت از نظر تمام موجودات زنده پوشیده است و حتّی پرندگان هوا نیز آن را نمی‌بینند.

²²Destruction and Death say, ‘We have heard a rumor of it with our ears.’

²² مرگ و نیستی ادّعا می‌کنند که فقط شایعه‌ای از آن شنیده‌اند.

²³“God understands its way, and he knows its place.

²³ تنها خدا راه حکمت را می‌شناسد و می‌داند آن را در کجا می‌توان یافت.

²⁴For he looks to the ends of the earth, and sees under the whole sky.

²⁴ زیرا هیچ گوشهٔ زمین از او پوشیده نیست، و هر چیزی را که در زیر آسمان است می‌بیند.

²⁵He establishes the force of the wind. Yes, he measures out the waters by measure.

²⁵ خدا، به باد قدرت وزیدن می‌دهد و حدود و اندازهٔ دریاها را تعیین می‌کند.

²⁶When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder;

²⁶ به باران فرمان می‌دهد که در کجا ببارد و برق و صاعقه در کدام مسیر تولید شوند.

²⁷then he saw it, and declared it. He established it, yes, and searched it out.

²⁷ پس او می‌داند که حکمت در کجاست. او آن را امتحان کرد، ارزش آن را دیده تأیید فرمود. آنگاه به بشر گفت: «به یقین بدانید که ترس از خداوند، حکمت واقعی و پرهیزکردن از شرارت، دانش حقیقی است.»

²⁸To man he said, ‘Behold, the fear of the Lord The word translated “Lord” is “Adonai.” , that is wisdom. To depart from evil is understanding.’”

²⁸ آنگاه به بشر گفت: «به یقین بدانید که ترس از خداوند، حکمت واقعی و پرهیزکردن از شرارت، دانش حقیقی است.»
