1Joshua rose up early in the morning; and they moved from Shittim, and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel. They lodged there before they passed over.

روز بعد، یوشع و تمام قوم اسرائیل صبح زود از خواب بیدار شدند؛ اردوگاه اقاقیا را ترک کرده، به سمت رود اردن حرکت کردند و مادامی که منتظر عبور از رود بودند، در آنجا اردو زدند.
2It happened after three days, that the officers went through the midst of the camp;

بعد از سه روز رهبران قوم در سرتاسر اردوگاه گشتند و به مردم گفتند: «وقتی کاهنان را دیدید که صندوق پیمان خداوند را میبرند، از اردوگاهتان خارج شوید و به دنبال آنها بروید.
3and they commanded the people, saying, “When you see the ark of the covenant of Yahweh your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then you shall move from your place, and follow it.

چون شما راه را نمیدانید، آنها شما را راهنمایی میکنند. امّا یادتان باشد که هرگز به صندوق پیمان خداوند نزدیک نشوید و دست کم یک کیلومتر از آن فاصله داشته باشید.»
4Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Don’t come near to it, that you may know the way by which you must go; for you have not passed this way before.”

یوشع به مردم گفت: «خود را پاک کنید، زیرا خداوند فردا معجزات بزرگی نشان خواهد داد.»
5Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves; for tomorrow Yahweh will do wonders among you.”

بعد به کاهنان فرمان داد که صندوق پیمان خداوند را گرفته، پیشاپیش مردم بروند و آنها هم طبق فرمان یوشع عمل کردند.
6Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people.” They took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people.

خداوند به یوشع فرمود: «امروز تو را پیش قوم اسرائیل سرفراز میسازم تا آنها بدانند که همانطور كه همراه موسی بودم با تو نیز هستم.
7Yahweh said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to magnify you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.

به کاهنانی که صندوق پیمان را حمل میکنند بگو، وقتی به کنار رود اردن رسیدند، داخل رود نشوند بلکه در همانجا بایستند.»
8You shall command the priests who bear the ark of the covenant, saying, ‘When you come to the brink of the waters of the Jordan, you shall stand still in the Jordan.’”

یوشع به مردم گفت: «بیایید و بشنوید که خداوند خدای شما، چه فرموده است.
9Joshua said to the children of Israel, “Come here, and hear the words of Yahweh your God.”

به این وسیله خواهید دانست که خدای زنده در بین شماست و بدون شک کنعانیان، حِتّیان، حویان، فِرزیان، جرشیان، اموریان و یبوسیان را، از سر راه شما دور میکند.
10Joshua said, “Hereby you shall know that the living God is among you, and that he will without fail drive the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Hivite, and the Perizzite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Jebusite out from before you.

صندوق پیمان خداوند خدایی که مالک تمام زمین است، پیش از شما داخل رود اردن میگردد.
11Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord The word translated “Lord” is “Adonai.” of all the earth passes over before you into the Jordan.

پس دوازده نفر را به نمایندگی از دوازده طایفهٔ اسرائیل برای وظیفهٔ خاصّی انتخاب کنید.
12Now therefore take twelve men out of the tribes of Israel, for every tribe a man.

و همین که پای کاهنان حامل صندوق خداوند که صاحب تمام زمین است، به آب رود اردن برسد، آب از جریان باز میایستد و مانند سد روی هم انباشته میشود.»
13It shall come to pass, when the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of Yahweh, the Lord of all the earth, rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan will be cut off, even the waters that come down from above; and they shall stand in one heap.”

مردم از اردوگاه حرکت کردند و کاهنان حامل صندوق پیمان خداوند پیشاپیش آنها به راه افتادند.
14It happened, when the people moved from their tents to pass over the Jordan, the priests who bore the ark of the covenant being before the people,

در آن وقت سال، چون موسم درو بود آب تا کنارهٔ رود بالا آمده بود. همین که کاهنان پای خود را در آب گذاشتند، آبی که از طرف بالا جریان داشت، از حرکت باز ماند و در مسافت دوری تا شهر آدم، در نزدیکی صرتان جمع شد و آبی که پایینتر از آنجا بود تا دریای مرده قطع شد، به طوری که قوم توانستند در جایی که مقابل اریحا بود، از رود عبور کنند.
کاهنان حامل صندوق پیمان خداوند، در وسط رود اردن بر روی خشکی ایستادند تا همهٔ مردم از رود گذشتند.
15and when those who bore the ark had come to the Jordan, and the feet of the priests who bore the ark had dipped in the edge of the water (for the Jordan overflows all its banks all the time of harvest),

کاهنان حامل صندوق پیمان خداوند، در وسط رود اردن بر روی خشکی ایستادند تا همهٔ مردم از رود گذشتند.
16that the waters which came down from above stood, and rose up in one heap, a great way off, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan; and those that went down toward the sea of the Arabah, even the Salt Sea, were wholly cut off. Then the people passed over right against Jericho.
17The priests who bore the ark of the covenant of Yahweh stood firm on dry ground in the middle of the Jordan; and all Israel passed over on dry ground, until all the nation had passed completely over the Jordan.
