¹It happened, when all the nation had completely passed over the Jordan, that Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying,

¹ وقتی‌که همهٔ مردم به سلامتی از رود اردن عبور کردند، خداوند به یوشع فرمود:

²“Take twelve men out of the people, out of every tribe a man,

² «دوازده نفر، یکی از هر طایفه انتخاب کن

³and command them, saying, ‘Take from out of the middle of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging place, where you will lodge tonight.’”

³ به آنها بگو که هرکدام یک سنگ از همان‌ جای خشک رودخانه که کاهنان ایستاده‌اند، بردارند و در جایی که امشب اردو می‌زنید، بگذارند.»

⁴Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the children of Israel, out of every tribe a man.

⁴ ‌پس یوشع آن دوازده نفر نمایندهٔ طایفه‌های اسرائیل را فرا خوانده،

⁵Joshua said to them, “Pass over before the ark of Yahweh your God into the middle of the Jordan, and each of you pick up a stone and put it on your shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel;

⁵ به آنها گفت: «به رود اردن، جایی که صندوق پیمان خداوند خدایتان قرار دارد، بروید و هر کدام به نمایندگی از هر طایفهٔ اسرائیل، یک سنگ را بر روی شانهٔ خود بیاورید.

⁶that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask in time to come, saying, ‘What do you mean by these stones?’

⁶ آن دوازده سنگ، کارهای بزرگی را كه خداوند برای آنها انجام داده است، به یاد می‌آورند. و در آینده چون فرزندان شما بپرسند که این سنگها برای چیست،

⁷then you shall tell them, ‘Because the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be for a memorial to the children of Israel forever.’”

⁷ شما به آنها بگویید که وقتی صندوق پیمان خداوند از رود اردن عبور می‌‌کرد، جریان آب قطع شد و به همین سبب، این سنگها برای بنی‌اسرائیل خاطره‌ای جاودانه می‌باشند.»

⁸The children of Israel did as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the middle of the Jordan, as Yahweh spoke to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel; and they carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

⁸ آنها دستور یوشع را بجا آوردند و همان‌طور که خداوند فرموده بود، به نمایندگی از دوازده طایفهٔ اسرائیل دوازده سنگ از رود اردن آورده، در جایی که اردوگاه ایشان بود، قرار دادند.

⁹Joshua set up twelve stones in the middle of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood; and they are there to this day.

⁹ یوشع در وسط رودخانه، جایی که کاهنان حامل صندوق پیمان خداوند ایستاده بودند نیز دوازده سنگ بر روی هم قرار داد. آن سنگها تا به حال در همان‌جا قرار دارند.

¹⁰For the priests who bore the ark stood in the middle of the Jordan, until everything was finished that Yahweh commanded Joshua to speak to the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua; and the people hurried and passed over.

¹⁰ کاهنان در وسط رودخانه ایستادند تا آنچه را که خداوند به یوشع دستور داده بود، انجام شود. همان‌طور که موسی به یوشع فرموده بود. قوم با عجله از رودخانه عبور کرد.

¹¹It happened, when all the people had completely passed over, that the ark of Yahweh passed over, with the priests, in the presence of the people.

¹¹ بعد از آنکه همگی به آن طرف رودخانه رسیدند، کاهنان حامل صندوق پیمان خداوند، پیشاپیش مردم به راه افتادند.

¹²The children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, passed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses spoke to them.

¹² مردان طایفهٔ رئوبین، جاد و نصف طایفهٔ منسی برحسب دستور موسی، پیشاپیش مردم دیگر حرکت کردند.

¹³About forty thousand men, ready and armed for war passed over before Yahweh to battle, to the plains of Jericho.

¹³ در حدود چهل هزار نفر، همگی مسلّح و آماده برای جنگ از صحرای اریحا گذشتند.

¹⁴On that day, Yahweh magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him, as they feared Moses, all the days of his life.

¹⁴ در آن روز خداوند یوشع را در نظر بنی‌اسرائیل سرافراز نمود. و در تمام طول عمرش همان‌طور که به موسی احترام می‌گذاشتند، به او نیز احترام می‌‌گذاشتند.

¹⁵Yahweh spoke to Joshua, saying,

¹⁵ خداوند به یوشع فرمود: «به کاهنان حامل صندوق پیمان خداوند بگو که از رود اردن خارج شوند.»

¹⁶“Command the priests who bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan.”

¹⁶ پس یوشع امر کرد که آنها از رودخانه بیرون بیایند.

¹⁷Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, “Come up out of the Jordan!”

¹⁷ همین که کاهنان از رود اردن خارج شدند و پای به خشکی گذاشتند، آب رودخانه دوباره به حالت اول خود برگشت و آب آن بر تمام کناره‌هایش جاری شد.

¹⁸It happened, when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of Yahweh had come up out of the middle of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up to the dry ground, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place, and went over all its banks, as before.

¹⁸ روزی که مردم اسرائیل از رود اردن عبور کردند، روز دهم ماه اول سال بود و آنها در جلجال، در سرحد شرقی اریحا، اردو زدند.

¹⁹The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and encamped in Gilgal, on the east border of Jericho.

¹⁹ یوشع در آنجا دوازده سنگی را که از رود اردن آورده بودند، بر روی هم نصب کرد.

²⁰Joshua set up those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, in Gilgal.

²⁰ آنگاه به مردم گفت: «در آینده وقتی فرزندان شما بپرسند که این سنگها برای چیست؟

²¹He spoke to the children of Israel, saying, “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What do these stones mean?’

²¹ شما به آنها بگویید که این سنگها به یادبود روزی است که مردم اسرائیل از میان رود اردن، از خشکی عبور کردند.

²²Then you shall let your children know, saying, ‘Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

²² بگویید که خداوند خدای ما، آب رود اردن را خشک کرد و آن را نگه داشت تا همگی از رود عبور کردند. درست مانند همان معجزه‌ای که چهل سال پیش انجام شد، یعنی وقتی‌که خداوند آب دریای سرخ را خشک کرد تا ما از آن عبور کنیم. تا تمام مردم روی زمین بدانند که قدرت خداوند عظیم است و شما نیز همیشه به خداوند خدای خود احترام بگذارید.»

²³For Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you, until you had passed over, as Yahweh your God did to the Red Sea or, Sea of Reeds , which he dried up from before us, until we had passed over;

²³ تا تمام مردم روی زمین بدانند که قدرت خداوند عظیم است و شما نیز همیشه به خداوند خدای خود احترام بگذارید.»

²⁴that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of Yahweh, that it is mighty; that you may fear Yahweh your God forever.’”
