¹After Abimelech there arose to save Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he lived in Shamir in the hill country of Ephraim.

¹ بعد از مرگ ابیملك، یک نفر از طایفهٔ یساکار به نام تُولَع پسر فُواه نوهٔ دودا، برای نجات قوم اسرائیل آمد. او در شهر شامیر در کوهستان افرایم زندگی می‌کرد.

²He judged Israel twenty-three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.

² او مدّت بیست و سه سال بر اسرائیل رهبری کرد. بعد از وفاتش او را در شامیر به خاک سپردند.

³After him arose Jair, the Gileadite; and he judged Israel twenty-two years.

³ بعد از او یائیر جلعادی، بیست و دو سال حاکم اسرائیل بود.

⁴He had thirty sons who rode on thirty donkey colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havvoth Jair to this day, which are in the land of Gilead.

⁴ او دارای سی پسر بود که بر سی الاغ سوار می‌شدند و سی شهر در سرزمین جلعاد داشتند که تا به امروز به نام شهرهای یائیر یاد می‌شوند.

⁵Jair died, and was buried in Kamon.

⁵ وقتی‌که فوت کرد، او را در قامون دفن کردند.

⁶The children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Yahweh, and served the Baals, and the Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Sidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook Yahweh, and didn’t serve him.

⁶ بار دیگر مردم اسرائیل با پرستش خدایان در پیشگاه خداوند شرارت ورزیده، خدایان بعل و عشتاروت، یعنی خدایان سوریه، صیدون، موآب، عمون و فلسطین به خداوند گناه ورزیدند. آنها او را ترک کرده، از عبادت او دست کشیدند.

⁷The anger of Yahweh was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the children of Ammon.

⁷ پس آتش خشم خداوند شعله‌ور شد و آنها را زیر سلطهٔ فلسطینیان و عمونیان برد.

⁸They troubled and oppressed the children of Israel that year. For eighteen years, they oppressed all the children of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

⁸ برای مدّت هجده سال آنها بر اسرائیلیانی که در سرزمین اموریان در شرق رود اردن در جلعاد زندگی می‌کردند، ظلم و ستم روا داشتند.

⁹The children of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was very distressed.

⁹ عمونیان از رود اردن عبور کرده، برای جنگ با طایفه‌‌های یهودا، بنیامین و افرایم رفتند و زندگی را بر مردم اسرائیل تلخ ساختند.

¹⁰The children of Israel cried to Yahweh, saying, “We have sinned against you, even because we have forsaken our God, and have served the Baals.”

¹⁰ آنگاه قوم اسرائیل به حضور خداوند گریه و زاری کردند و گفتند: «ما در برابر تو گناه کرده‌ایم، زیرا ما خدای خود را ترک نموده، خدایان بعل را پرستش کرده‌ایم.»

¹¹Yahweh said to the children of Israel, “Didn’t I save you from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?

¹¹ خداوند به آنها فرمود: «آیا من شما را از دست مردمان مصر، اموری، عمونی و فلسطینی نجات ندادم؟

¹²The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, oppressed you; and you cried to me, and I saved you out of their hand.

¹² آیا وقتی شما از دست ظلم مردم صیدون، عمالق و معونی نزد من فریاد کردید، شما را نجات ندادم؟

¹³Yet you have forsaken me, and served other gods: therefore I will save you no more.

¹³ امّا شما مرا ترک کردید و خدایان بیگانه را پرستیدید، پس من دیگر شما را نجات نخواهم داد.

¹⁴Go and cry to the gods which you have chosen. Let them save you in the time of your distress!”

¹⁴ بروید پیش همان خدایانی که برای خود انتخاب کردید تا شما را از ظلم و ستمی که می‌کشید، خلاص کنند.»

¹⁵The children of Israel said to Yahweh, “We have sinned: do you to us whatever seems good to you; only deliver us, please, this day.”

¹⁵ مردم اسرائیل به خداوند گفتند: «ما گناهکاریم. هرچه که می‌خواهی در حق ما بکن. امّا اکنون یک‌بار دیگر ما را نجات بده.»

¹⁶They put away the foreign gods from among them, and served Yahweh; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

¹⁶ پس آنها خدایان بیگانه را از بین بردند و دوباره خداوند را پرستش کردند. پس خداوند بر رنجهای آنان شفقت نمود.

¹⁷Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. The children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpah.

¹⁷ در این وقت عمونیان، سپاه خود را در جلعاد آماده و مجهّز کردند. مردم اسرائیل هم همه یک‌‌جا جمع شده، در مصفه اردو زدند. رهبران سپاه جلعاد از یکدیگر پرسیدند: «چه کسی می‌خواهد فرمانده ما در جنگ با عمونیان باشد؟ هرکسی که داوطلب شود، آن شخص حاکم ما در جلعاد خواهد بود.»

¹⁸The people, the princes of Gilead, said one to another, “What man is he who will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? He shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”

¹⁸ رهبران سپاه جلعاد از یکدیگر پرسیدند: «چه کسی می‌خواهد فرمانده ما در جنگ با عمونیان باشد؟ هرکسی که داوطلب شود، آن شخص حاکم ما در جلعاد خواهد بود.»
