¹Now it happened in those days, that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled.

¹ در آن روزها به منظور یک سرشماری عمومی در سراسر دنیای روم فرمانی از طرف امپراتور اوغسطس صادر شد.

²This was the first enrollment made when Quirinius was governor of Syria.

² این اولین سرشماری بود و در آن هنگام كرینیوس فرماندار كلّ سوریه بود.

³All went to enroll themselves, everyone to his own city.

³ پس برای انجام سرشماری هرکسی به شهر خود می‌رفت

⁴Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and family of David;

⁴ و یوسف نیز از شهر ناصرهٔ جلیل به یهودیه آمد تا در شهر داوود، كه بیت‌لحم نام داشت نامنویسی كند، زیرا او از خاندان داوود بود.

⁵to enroll himself with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him as wife, being pregnant.

⁵ او مریم را كه در این موقع در عقد او و باردار بود همراه خود برد.

⁶It happened, while they were there, that the day had come that she should give birth.

⁶ هنگامی‌که در آنجا اقامت داشتند وقت تولّد طفل فرا رسید

⁷She brought forth her firstborn son, and she wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a feeding trough, because there was no room for them in the inn.

⁷ و مریم اولین فرزند خود را كه پسر بود به دنیا آورد. او را در قنداق پیچیده در آخوری خوابانید، زیرا در مسافرخانه جایی برای آنان نبود.

⁸There were shepherds in the same country staying in the field, and keeping watch by night over their flock.

⁸ در همان اطراف در میان مزارع، چوپانانی بودند كه در هنگام شب از گلّهٔ خود نگهبانی می‌کردند.

⁹Behold, an angel of the Lord stood by them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.

⁹ فرشتهٔ خداوند در برابر ایشان ایستاد و شكوه و جلال خداوند در اطرافشان درخشید و ایشان سخت وحشت كردند.

¹⁰The angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be to all the people.

¹⁰ امّا فرشته گفت: «نترسید، من برای شما مژده‌ای دارم: شادی بزرگی شامل حال تمامی این قوم خواهد شد.

¹¹For there is born to you, this day, in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

¹¹ امروز در شهر داوود نجات‌دهنده‌ای برای شما به دنیا آمده است كه مسیح و خداوند است.

¹²This is the sign to you: you will find a baby wrapped in strips of cloth, lying in a feeding trough.”

¹² نشانی آن برای شما این است كه نوزاد را در قنداق پیچیده و در آخور خوابیده خواهید یافت.»

¹³Suddenly, there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly army praising God, and saying,

¹³ ناگهان با آن فرشته فوج بزرگی از سپاه آسمانی ظاهر شد كه خدا را با حمد و ثنا می‌سراییدند و می‌گفتند:

¹⁴“Glory to God in the highest, on earth peace, good will toward men.”

¹⁴ «خدا را در برترین آسمانها جلال و بر زمین در بین مردمی كه مورد پسند او می‌باشند صلح و سلامتی باد.»

¹⁵It happened, when the angels went away from them into the sky, that the shepherds said one to another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem, now, and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”

¹⁵ بعد از آنكه فرشتگان آنان را ترک كردند و به آسمان رفتند، چوپانان به یكدیگر گفتند: «بیایید، به بیت‌لحم برویم و واقعه‌ای را كه خداوند ما را از آن آگاه ساخته است ببینیم.»

¹⁶They came with haste, and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby was lying in the feeding trough.

¹⁶ پس باشتاب رفتند و مریم و یوسف و آن كودک را كه در آخور خوابیده بود پیدا كردند.

¹⁷When they saw it, they publicized widely the saying which was spoken to them about this child.

¹⁷ وقتی كودک را دیدند آنچه را كه دربارهٔ او به آنان گفته شده بود بیان كردند.

¹⁸All who heard it wondered at the things which were spoken to them by the shepherds.

¹⁸ همهٔ شنوندگان از آنچه چوپانان می‌گفتند تعجّب می‌کردند.

¹⁹But Mary kept all these sayings, pondering them in her heart.

¹⁹ امّا مریم تمام این چیزها را به‌خاطر می‌سپرد و دربارهٔ آنها عمیقاً می‌اندیشید.

²⁰The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, just as it was told them.

²⁰ چوپانان برگشتند و به‌خاطر آنچه شنیده و دیده بودند خدا را حمد و سپاس می‌گفتند، زیرا آنچه به ایشان گفته شده بود اتّفاق افتاده بود.

²¹When eight days were fulfilled for the circumcision of the child, his name was called Jesus, which was given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

²¹ یک هفته بعد كه وقت ختنهٔ كودک فرا رسید او را عیسی نامیدند، همان نامی كه فرشته قبل از قرار گرفتن او در رحم تعیین كرده بود.

²²When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord

²² پس از آنكه روزهای تطهیر را مطابق شریعت موسی پشت سر گذاردند كودک را به اورشلیم آوردند تا به خداوند تقدیم نمایند.

²³(as it is written in the law of the Lord, “Every male who opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord”), Exodus 13:2,12

²³ چنانکه در شریعت خداوند نوشته شده است: نخستزادهٔ مذکر از آن خداوند شمرده می‌شود

²⁴and to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, “A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.” Leviticus 12:8

²⁴ و نیز طبق آنچه در شریعت خداوند نوشته شده است قربانی‌ای تقدیم كنند. یعنی یک جفت کبوتر و یا دو جوجه قمری.

²⁵Behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him.

²⁵ در اورشلیم مردی به نام شمعون زندگی می‌کرد كه درستكار و پارسا بود و در انتظار سعادت اسرائیل به سر می‌برد و روح‌القدس بر او بود.

²⁶It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ. “Christ” (Greek) and “Messiah” (Hebrew) both mean “Anointed One”

²⁶ از طرف روح‌القدس به او الهام رسیده بود كه تا مسیح موعود خداوند را نبیند، نخواهد مرد.

²⁷He came in the Spirit into the temple. When the parents brought in the child, Jesus, that they might do concerning him according to the custom of the law,

²⁷ او به هدایت روح به داخل معبد بزرگ آمد و هنگامی‌که والدین عیسی، طفل را به داخل آوردند تا آنچه را كه طبق شریعت مرسوم بود انجام دهند،

²⁸then he received him into his arms, and blessed God, and said,

²⁸ شمعون، طفل را در آغوش گرفت و خدا را حمدكنان گفت:

²⁹“Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace;

²⁹ «حال ای خداوند، بر طبق وعدهٔ خود بنده‌ات را بسلامت مرخّص فرما

³⁰ چون چشمانم نجات تو را دیده است،

³¹ نجاتی كه تو در حضور همهٔ ملّتها آماده ساخته‌ای،

³²a light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel.”

³² نوری كه افكار ملل بیگانه را روشن سازد و مایهٔ سربلندی قوم تو، اسرائیل گردد.»

³³Joseph and his mother were marveling at the things which were spoken concerning him,

³³ پدر و مادر آن طفل از آنچه دربارهٔ او گفته شد متحیّر گشتند.

³⁴and Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary, his mother, “Behold, this child is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel, and for a sign which is spoken against.

³⁴ شمعون برای آنان دعای خیر كرد و به مریم مادر عیسی، گفت: «این كودک برای سقوط و یا سرافرازی بسیاری در اسرائیل تعیین شده است و نشانه‌ای است كه در ردكردن او

³⁵Yes, a sword will pierce through your own soul, that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

³⁵ افكار پنهانی عدّهٔ كثیری آشكار خواهد شد و در دل تو نیز خنجری فرو خواهد رفت.»

³⁶There was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Asher (she was of a great age, having lived with a husband seven years from her virginity,

³⁶ در آنجا، همچنین زنی نبیّه به نام حنا زندگی می‌کرد كه دختر فنوئیل از طایفهٔ اشیر بود، او زنی بود بسیار سالخورده، كه بعد از ازدواج، مدّت هفت سال با شوهرش زندگی كرده

³⁷and she had been a widow for about eighty-four years), who didn’t depart from the temple, worshipping with fastings and petitions night and day.

³⁷ و بعد از آن هشتاد و چهار سال بیوه مانده بود. او هرگز از معبد بزرگ خارج نمی‌شد بلكه شب و روز با نماز و روزه، خدا را عبادت می‌کرد.

³⁸Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem.

³⁸ او در همان موقع جلو آمد، به درگاه خدا شكرگزاری نمود و برای همهٔ کسانی‌که در انتظار نجات اورشلیم بودند، دربارهٔ آن طفل صحبت كرد.

³⁹When they had accomplished all things that were according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city, Nazareth.

³⁹ بعد از آنكه همهٔ كارهایی را كه در شریعت خداوند مقرّر است انجام دادند، به شهر خود، ناصرهٔ جلیل برگشتند.

⁴⁰The child was growing, and was becoming strong in spirit, being filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon him.

⁴⁰ و كودک سرشار از حكمت، بزرگ و قوی می‌گشت و لطف خدا با او بود.

⁴¹His parents went every year to Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover.

⁴¹ والدین عیسی همه ساله برای عید فصح به اورشلیم می‌رفتند.

⁴²When he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem according to the custom of the feast,

⁴² وقتی او به دوازده سالگی رسید آنها طبق معمول برای آن عید به آنجا رفتند.

⁴³and when they had fulfilled the days, as they were returning, the boy Jesus stayed behind in Jerusalem. Joseph and his mother didn’t know it,

⁴³ وقتی روزهای عید به پایان رسید و آنان عازم شهر خود شدند، عیسی نوجوان در اورشلیم ماند ولی والدینش این را نمی‌دانستند

⁴⁴but supposing him to be in the company, they went a day’s journey, and they looked for him among their relatives and acquaintances.

⁴⁴ و به گمان اینكه او در بین كاروان است یک روز تمام به سفر ادامه دادند و آن وقت در میان دوستان و خویشان خود به جستجوی او پرداختند.

⁴⁵When they didn’t find him, they returned to Jerusalem, looking for him.

⁴⁵ چون او را پیدا نكردند ناچار به اورشلیم برگشتند تا به دنبال او بگردند.

⁴⁶It happened after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them, and asking them questions.

⁴⁶ بعد از سه روز او را در معبد بزرگ پیدا كردند -‌درحالی‌كه در میان معلّمان نشسته بود و به آنان گوش می‌داد و از ایشان سؤال می‌کرد.

⁴⁷All who heard him were amazed at his understanding and his answers.

⁴⁷ همهٔ شنوندگان از هوش او و از پاسخهایی كه می‌داد در حیرت بودند.

⁴⁸When they saw him, they were astonished, and his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us this way? Behold, your father and I were anxiously looking for you.”

⁴⁸ والدین عیسی از دیدن او تعجّب كردند و مادرش به او گفت: «پسرم، چرا با ما چنین كردی؟ من و پدرت با نگرانی زیاد دنبال تو می‌گشتیم.»

⁴⁹He said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Didn’t you know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

⁴⁹ او گفت: «برای چه دنبال من می‌گشتید؟ مگر نمی‌دانستید كه من موظّف هستم در خانهٔ پدرم باشم؟»

⁵⁰They didn’t understand the saying which he spoke to them.

⁵⁰ امّا آنان نفهمیدند كه مقصود او چیست.

⁵¹And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth. He was subject to them, and his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

⁵¹ عیسی با ایشان به ناصره بازگشت و مطیع آنان بود. مادرش همهٔ این چیزها را در دل خود نگاه می‌داشت. عیسی در حكمت و قامت رشد می‌کرد و مورد پسند خدا و مردم بود.

⁵²And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.

⁵² عیسی در حكمت و قامت رشد می‌کرد و مورد پسند خدا و مردم بود.
