¹Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands.

¹ زن دانا خانهٔ خود را آباد می‌کند، امّا زن نادان با دست خود خانهٔ خود را خراب می‌سازد.

²He who walks in his uprightness fears Yahweh, but he who is perverse in his ways despises him.

² کسانی‌که با صداقت رفتار می‌نمایند، از خداوند می‌ترسند، ولی اشخاص بدکار او را تحقیر می‌کنند.

³The fool’s talk brings a rod to his back, but the lips of the wise protect them.

³ پُر حرفی شخص نادان را به زحمت می‌اندازد، امّا سخنان شخص دانا او را محافظت می‌کند.

⁴Where no oxen are, the crib is clean, but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

⁴ اگر گاو نباشد، انبار از غلّه خالی می‌ماند، با نیرو و قوّت گاو محصول فراوان به دست می‌آید.

⁵A truthful witness will not lie, but a false witness pours out lies.

⁵ شاهد امین دروغ نمی‌گوید، امّا از دهان شاهد نادرست دروغ می‌بارد.

⁶A scoffer seeks wisdom, and doesn’t find it, but knowledge comes easily to a discerning person.

⁶ کسی‌که همه‌چیز را مسخره می‌کند، هرگز نمی‌تواند حکمت را بیابد، ولی شخص عاقل به آسانی آن را به دست می‌آورد.

⁷Stay away from a foolish man, for you won’t find knowledge on his lips.

⁷ از مردم نادان دوری کن، زیرا چیزی ندارند که به تو یاد بدهند.

⁸The wisdom of the prudent is to think about his way, but the folly of fools is deceit.

⁸ حکمتِ شخص عاقل راهنمای اوست، امّا حماقتِ افراد نادان باعث گمراهی آنها می‌شود.

⁹Fools mock at making atonement for sins, but among the upright there is good will.

⁹ آدمهای نادان از گناه کردن دست نمی‌کشند، امّا درستکاران رضامندی خدا را می‌خواهند.

¹⁰The heart knows its own bitterness and joy; he will not share these with a stranger.

¹⁰ تنها دل انسان است که تلخی او را احساس می‌کند و در خوشی او نیز کسی جز خودش نمی‌تواند شریک باشد.

¹¹The house of the wicked will be overthrown, but the tent of the upright will flourish.

¹¹ خانهٔ مردم بدکار خراب می‌شود، امّا خانهٔ راستان وسعت می‌یابد.

¹²There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.

¹² راهی که فکر می‌‌کنی راست است، ممکن است به مرگ منتهی شود.

¹³Even in laughter the heart may be sorrowful, and mirth may end in heaviness.

¹³ خنده می‌تواند اندوه را پنهان کند، امّا هنگامی‌که خنده تمام شود، درد و اندوه بر جای خود باقی می‌ماند.

¹⁴The unfaithful will be repaid for his own ways; likewise a good man will be rewarded for his ways.

¹⁴ آدم خدا نشناس نتیجهٔ کار خود را می‌بیند و شخص نیکو از ثمرهٔ کارهای خود بهره می‌گیرد.

¹⁵A simple man believes everything, but the prudent man carefully considers his ways.

¹⁵ آدم نادان هر حرفی را باور می‌کند، امّا شخص عاقل سنجیده رفتار می‌نماید.

¹⁶A wise man fears, and shuns evil, but the fool is hotheaded and reckless.

¹⁶ شخص دانا محتاط است و از خطر دوری می‌کند، ولی آدم نادان از روی غرور، خود را به خطر می‌اندازد.

¹⁷He who is quick to become angry will commit folly, and a crafty man is hated.

¹⁷ شخص تندخو کارهای احمقانه می‌کند و آدم حیله‌گر مورد نفرت قرار می‌گیرد.

¹⁸The simple inherit folly, but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

¹⁸ حماقت نصیب نادانان می‌شود و حکمت نصیب عاقلان.

¹⁹The evil bow down before the good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

¹⁹ مردم بدکار عاقبت در برابر اشخاص نیک سر تعظیم فرود می‌آورند و محتاج آنها می‌شوند.

²⁰The poor person is shunned even by his own neighbor, but the rich person has many friends.

²⁰ ثروتمندان دوستان زیاد دارند، امّا شخص فقیر را حتّی همسایه‌هایش نیز تحقیر می‌کنند.

²¹He who despises his neighbor sins, but blessed is he who has pity on the poor.

²¹ تحقیر کردن اشخاص فقیر گناه است، خوشا به حال کسی‌که بر آنها ترحّم کند.

²²Don’t they go astray who plot evil? But love and faithfulness belong to those who plan good.

²² کسانی‌که نقشه‌های پلید در سر می‌پرورانند، گمراه می‌شوند؛ امّا آنهایی که نیّت خوب دارند، مورد محبّت و اعتماد قرار می‌گیرند.

²³In all hard work there is profit, but the talk of the lips leads only to poverty.

²³ کسی‌که زحمت می‌کشد، منفعت عایدش می‌شود؛ امّا شخصی که فقط حرف می‌زند، فقیر می‌گردد.

²⁴The crown of the wise is their riches, but the folly of fools crowns them with folly.

²⁴ ثروت نصیب مردم دانا می‌شود، امّا پاداش اشخاص نادان حماقت آنهاست.

²⁵A truthful witness saves souls, but a false witness is deceitful.

²⁵ شاهد امین جان مردم را نجات می‌دهد، امّا شاهد دروغگو به مردم خیانت می‌کند.

²⁶In the fear of Yahweh is a secure fortress, and he will be a refuge for his children.

²⁶ کسی‌که از خدا می‌ترسد، تکیه‌گاه مستحکمی ‌دارد و فرزندانش در امان می‌باشند.

²⁷The fear of Yahweh is a fountain of life, turning people from the snares of death.

²⁷ خدا‌ترسی چشمهٔ حیات است و انسان را از دامهای مرگ دور نگاه می‌دارد.

²⁸In the multitude of people is the king’s glory, but in the lack of people is the destruction of the prince.

²⁸ عظمت یک پادشاه به تعداد مردمی است که بر آنها حکومت می‌کند. پادشاه بدون رعیت نابود می‌شود.

²⁹He who is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a quick temper displays folly.

²⁹ کسی‌که صبر و حوصله دارد، شخص بسیار دانایی است، امّا از آدم تندخو حماقت سرمی‌زند.

³⁰The life of the body is a heart at peace, but envy rots the bones.

³⁰ آرامش فکری به بدن سلامتی می‌بخشد، ولی حسادت استخوان را می‌پوساند.

³¹He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but he who is kind to the needy honors him.

³¹ کسی‌که به فقرا ظلم می‌کند به آفرینندهٔ آنها اهانت کرده است و هر که به مردم مسکین ترحّم می‌نماید، خدا را احترام نموده است.

³²The wicked is brought down in his calamity, but in death, the righteous has a refuge.

³² مردم خداشناس وقتی بمیرند، پناهگاهی خواهند داشت، امّا گناهکاران به وسیلهٔ گناهانشان تباه می‌شوند.

³³Wisdom rests in the heart of one who has understanding, and is even made known in the inward part of fools.

³³ اشخاص فهمیده حکمت را در دل خود حفظ می‌کنند، ولی آدمهای نادان از حکمت بهره‌ای ندارند.

³⁴Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a disgrace to any people.

³⁴ صداقت مایهٔ سرفرازی یک قوم است و گناه باعث رسوایی آن. پادشاه از خدمتگزاران دانا خشنود می‌شود، امّا کسانی‌که شرارت می‌کنند، مورد غضب او قرار می‌گیرند.

³⁵The king’s favor is toward a servant who deals wisely, but his wrath is toward one who causes shame.

³⁵ پادشاه از خدمتگزاران دانا خشنود می‌شود، امّا کسانی‌که شرارت می‌کنند، مورد غضب او قرار می‌گیرند.
