¹⁶ صرف پول برای آموزش شخص احمق بی‌فایده است، زیرا او طالب حکمت نیست.

¹⁷ دوست واقعی در هر موقعیّتی محبّت می‌کند و خویشاوند برای کمک در هنگام سختی، متولّد شده است.

²⁵A foolish son brings grief to his father, and bitterness to her who bore him.

²⁵ فرزند احمق مایهٔ غم و اندوه پدر و تلخکامی مادر است.

²⁶Also to punish the righteous is not good, nor to flog officials for their integrity.

²⁶ مجازات کردن اشخاص بی‌گناه و تنبیه مردم نجیب به‌خاطر صداقت ایشان کار درستی نیست.

²⁷He who spares his words has knowledge. He who is even tempered is a man of understanding.

²⁷ شخص دانا کم حرف می‌زند و آدم عاقل آرام و صبور است. اگر شخص احمق خاموش باشد و حرف نزند، او را دانا می‌شمارند.

²⁸Even a fool, when he keeps silent, is counted wise. When he shuts his lips, he is thought to be discerning.
