1Hear my teaching, my people. Turn your ears to the words of my mouth.
1Escutai o meu ensino, povo meu; inclinai os vossos ouvidos �s palavras da minha boca.
2I will open my mouth in a parable. I will utter dark sayings of old,
2Abrirei a minha boca numa parábola; proporei enigmas da antigüidade,
3Which we have heard and known, and our fathers have told us.
3coisas que temos ouvido e sabido, e que nossos pais nos têm contado.
4We will not hide them from their children, telling to the generation to come the praises of Yahweh, his strength, and his wondrous works that he has done.
4Não os encobriremos aos seus filhos, cantaremos �s gerações vindouras os louvores do Senhor, assim como a sua força e as maravilhas que tem feito.
5For he established a testimony in Jacob, and appointed a teaching in Israel, which he commanded our fathers, that they should make them known to their children;
5Porque ele estabeleceu um testemunho em Jacó, e instituiu uma lei em Israel, as quais coisas ordenou aos nossos pais que as ensinassem a seus filhos;
6that the generation to come might know, even the children who should be born; who should arise and tell their children,
6para que as soubesse a geração vindoura, os filhos que houvesse de nascer, os quais se levantassem e as contassem a seus filhos,
7that they might set their hope in God, and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments,
7a fim de que pusessem em Deus a sua esperança, e não se esquecessem das obras de Deus, mas guardassem os seus mandamentos;
8and might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that didn’t make their hearts loyal, whose spirit was not steadfast with God.
8e que não fossem como seus pais, geração contumaz e rebelde, geração de coração instável, cujo espírito não foi fiel para com Deus.
9The children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.
9Os filhos de Efraim, armados de arcos, retrocederam no dia da peleja.
10They didn’t keep God’s covenant, and refused to walk in his law.
10Não guardaram o pacto de Deus, e recusaram andar na sua lei;
11They forgot his doings, his wondrous works that he had shown them.
11esqueceram-se das suas obras e das maravilhas que lhes fizera ver.
12He did marvelous things in the sight of their fathers, in the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.
12Maravilhas fez ele � vista de seus pais na terra do Egito, no campo de Zoá.
13He split the sea, and caused them to pass through. He made the waters stand as a heap.
13Dividiu o mar, e os fez passar por ele; fez com que as águas parassem como um montão.
14In the daytime he also led them with a cloud, and all night with a light of fire.
14Também os guiou de dia por uma nuvem, e a noite toda por um clarão de fogo.
15He split rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink abundantly as out of the depths.
15Fendeu rochas no deserto, e deu-lhes de beber abundantemente como de grandes abismos.
16He brought streams also out of the rock, and caused waters to run down like rivers.
16Da penha fez sair fontes, e fez correr águas como rios.
17Yet they still went on to sin against him, to rebel against the Most High in the desert.
17Todavia ainda prosseguiram em pecar contra ele, rebelando-se contra o Altíssimo no deserto.
18They tempted God in their heart by asking food according to their desire.
18E tentaram a Deus nos seus corações, pedindo comida segundo o seu apetite.
19Yes, they spoke against God. They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?
19Também falaram contra Deus, dizendo: Poderá Deus porventura preparar uma mesa no deserto? Acaso fornecerá carne para o seu povo?
20Behold, he struck the rock, so that waters gushed out, and streams overflowed. Can he give bread also? Will he provide flesh for his people?”
20Pelo que o Senhor, quando os ouviu, se indignou; e acendeu um fogo contra Jacó, e a sua ira subiu contra Israel;
21Therefore Yahweh heard, and was angry. A fire was kindled against Jacob, anger also went up against Israel,

22because they didn’t believe in God, and didn’t trust in his salvation.
22porque não creram em Deus nem confiaram na sua salvação.
23Yet he commanded the skies above, and opened the doors of heaven.
23Contudo ele ordenou �s nuvens lá em cima, e abriu as portas dos céus;
24He rained down manna on them to eat, and gave them food from the sky.
24fez chover sobre eles maná para comerem, e deu-lhes do trigo dos céus.
25Man ate the bread of angels. He sent them food to the full.
25Cada um comeu o pão dos poderosos; ele lhes mandou comida em abundância.
26He caused the east wind to blow in the sky. By his power he guided the south wind.
26Fez soprar nos céus o vento do oriente, e pelo seu poder trouxe o vento sul.
27He rained also flesh on them as the dust; winged birds as the sand of the seas.
27Sobre eles fez também chover carne como poeira, e aves de asas como a areia do mar;
28He let them fall in the midst of their camp, around their habitations.
28e as fez cair no meio do arraial deles, ao redor de suas habitações.
29So they ate, and were well filled. He gave them their own desire.
29Então comeram e se fartaram bem, pois ele lhes trouxe o que cobiçavam.
30They didn’t turn from their cravings. Their food was yet in their mouths,
30Não refrearam a sua cobiça. Ainda lhes estava a comida na boca,
31when the anger of God went up against them, killed some of their fattest, and struck down the young men of Israel.
31quando a ira de Deus se levantou contra eles, e matou os mais fortes deles, e prostrou os escolhidos de Israel.
32For all this they still sinned, and didn’t believe in his wondrous works.
32Com tudo isso ainda pecaram, e não creram nas suas maravilhas.
33Therefore he consumed their days in vanity, and their years in terror.
33Pelo que consumiu os seus dias como um sopo, e os seus anos em repentino terror.
34When he killed them, then they inquired after him. They returned and sought God earnestly.
34Quando ele os fazia morrer, então o procuravam; arrependiam-se, e de madrugada buscavam a Deus.
35They remembered that God was their rock, the Most High God, their redeemer.
35Lembravam-se de que Deus era a sua rocha, e o Deus Altíssimo o seu Redentor.
36But they flattered him with their mouth, and lied to him with their tongue.
36Todavia lisonjeavam-no com a boca, e com a língua lhe mentiam.
37For their heart was not right with him, neither were they faithful in his covenant.
37Pois o coração deles não era constante para com ele, nem foram eles fiéis ao seu pacto.
38But he, being merciful, forgave iniquity, and didn’t destroy them. Yes, many times he turned his anger away, and didn’t stir up all his wrath.
38Mas ele, sendo compassivo, perdoou a sua iniqüidade, e não os destruiu; antes muitas vezes desviou deles a sua cólera, e não acendeu todo o seu furor.
39He remembered that they were but flesh, a wind that passes away, and doesn’t come again.
39Porque se lembrou de que eram carne, um vento que passa e não volta.
40How often they rebelled against him in the wilderness, and grieved him in the desert!
40Quantas vezes se rebelaram contra ele no deserto, e o ofenderam no ermo!
41They turned again and tempted God, and provoked the Holy One of Israel.
41Voltaram atrás, e tentaram a Deus; e provocaram o Santo de Israel.
42They didn’t remember his hand, nor the day when he redeemed them from the adversary;
42Não se lembraram do seu poder, nem do dia em que os remiu do adversário,
43how he set his signs in Egypt, his wonders in the field of Zoan,
43nem de como operou os seus sinais no Egito, e as suas maravilhas no campo de Zoã,
44he turned their rivers into blood, and their streams, so that they could not drink.
44convertendo em sangue os seus rios, para que não pudessem beber das suas correntes.
45He sent among them swarms of flies, which devoured them; and frogs, which destroyed them.
45Também lhes mandou enxames de moscas que os consumiram, e rãs que os destruíram.
46He gave also their increase to the caterpillar, and their labor to the locust.
46Entregou �s lagartas as novidades deles, e o fruto do seu trabalho aos gafanhotos.
47He destroyed their vines with hail, their sycamore fig trees with frost.
47Destruiu as suas vinhas com saraiva, e os seus sicômoros com chuva de pedra.
48He gave over their livestock also to the hail, and their flocks to hot thunderbolts.
48Também entregou � saraiva o gado deles, e aos coriscos os seus rebanhos.
49He threw on them the fierceness of his anger, wrath, indignation, and trouble, and a band of angels of evil.
49E atirou sobre eles o ardor da sua ira, o furor, a indignação, e a angústia, qual companhia de anjos destruidores.
50He made a path for his anger. He didn’t spare their soul from death, but gave their life over to the pestilence,
50Deu livre curso � sua ira; não os poupou da morte, mas entregou a vida deles � pestilência.
51and struck all the firstborn in Egypt, the chief of their strength in the tents of Ham.
51Feriu todo primogênito no Egito, primícias da força deles nas tendas de Cão.
52But he led forth his own people like sheep, and guided them in the wilderness like a flock.
52Mas fez sair o seu povo como ovelhas, e os guiou pelo deserto como a um rebanho.
53He led them safely, so that they weren’t afraid, but the sea overwhelmed their enemies.
53Guiou-os com segurança, de sorte que eles não temeram; mas aos seus inimigos, o mar os submergiu.
54He brought them to the border of his sanctuary, to this mountain, which his right hand had taken.
54Sim, conduziu-os até a sua fronteira santa, até o monte que a sua destra adquirira.
55He also drove out the nations before them, allotted them for an inheritance by line, and made the tribes of Israel to dwell in their tents.
55Expulsou as nações de diante deles; e dividindo suas terras por herança, fez habitar em suas tendas as tribos de Israel.
56Yet they tempted and rebelled against the Most High God, and didn’t keep his testimonies;
56Contudo tentaram e provocaram o Deus Altíssimo, e não guardaram os seus testemunhos.
57but turned back, and dealt treacherously like their fathers. They were turned aside like a deceitful bow.
57Mas tornaram atrás, e portaram-se aleivosamente como seus pais; desviaram-se como um arco traiçoeiro.
58For they provoked him to anger with their high places, and moved him to jealousy with their engraved images.
58Pois o provocaram � ira com os seus altos, e o incitaram a zelos com as suas imagens esculpidas.
59When God heard this, he was angry, and greatly abhorred Israel;
59Ao ouvir isso, Deus se indignou, e sobremodo abominou a Israel.
60So that he forsook the tent of Shiloh, the tent which he placed among men;
60Pelo que desamparou o tabernáculo em Siló, a tenda da sua morada entre os homens,
61and delivered his strength into captivity, his glory into the adversary’s hand.
61dando a sua força ao cativeiro, e a sua glória � mão do inimigo.
62He also gave his people over to the sword, and was angry with his inheritance.
62Entregou o seu povo � espada, e encolerizou-se contra a sua herança.
63Fire devoured their young men. Their virgins had no wedding song.
63Aos seus mancebos o fogo devorou, e suas donzelas não tiveram cântico nupcial.
64Their priests fell by the sword, and their widows couldn’t weep.
64Os seus sacerdotes caíram � espada, e suas viúvas não fizeram pranto.
65Then the Lord awakened as one out of sleep, like a mighty man who shouts by reason of wine.
65Então o Senhor despertou como dum sono, como um valente que o vinho excitasse.
66He struck his adversaries backward. He put them to a perpetual reproach.
66E fez recuar a golpes os seus adversários; infligiu-lhes eterna ignomínia.
67Moreover he rejected the tent of Joseph, and didn’t choose the tribe of Ephraim,
67Além disso, rejeitou a tenda de José, e não escolheu a tribo de Efraim;
68But chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which he loved.
68antes escolheu a tribo de Judá, o monte Sião, que ele amava.
69He built his sanctuary like the heights, like the earth which he has established forever.
69Edificou o seu santuário como os lugares elevados, como a terra que fundou para sempre.
70He also chose David his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds;
70Também escolheu a Davi, seu servo, e o tirou dos apriscos das ovelhas;
71from following the ewes that have their young, he brought him to be the shepherd of Jacob, his people, and Israel, his inheritance.
71de após as ovelhas e suas crias o trouxe, para apascentar a Jacó, seu povo, e a Israel, sua herança.
72So he was their shepherd according to the integrity of his heart, and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.
72E ele os apascentou, segundo a integridade do seu coração, e os guiou com a perícia de suas mãos.
